Eugh. First off, sorry for my absence. School has eaten up a lot of my time. I'll get into character creation tonight.

Also, as if it wasn't obvious, I messed up on naming my character. How do I change the name in my profile?

no problem. My own pace will slow for a week or tow (son is starting school, oh the joy)
I'll change your name.

Thanks. My character's real name is Shirley Grant, but I think it would be more appropriate to go by her Noble Alias, Drachenstern.

You can have multiple characters in RPOL, so you'd be able to switch out beteen the two as needed.

Right, but it was really more of a roleplaying decision than anything. She wishes she were Drachenstern instead of Shirley.

Lucky for her about Mirrors' Practical Magic then, she's basically halfway there. ;)

Okay, I've gotten Shirley's background and such onto her profile. I'm going to get to work on revising her character sheet.

By the way, Zelda, I'm going to use your idea about having Levinbolt as her primary weapon. I'll fluff it as a energy sword. But not like a lightsaber. More like a conduit for Radiant magic. Levinbolt can be used in melee without penalty, right (I might be confusing my combat rules)?

If by "without penalty" you mean "without any penalties above and beyond the target's Defense," then yes. Though if you recall way back then I actually quickly came up with a better* idea that you said you liked but then never actually updated your sheet with:

1. Trade in two physical skill dots for transformed dots. Specifically, drop your Firearms 1/Weaponry 2 to Firearms 0/Weaponry 1 so that it'll go up to Firearms 2/Weaponry 3 when you transform.

2. Change your "Kensai" specialty back to "Swords" like it used to be.

3. Replace Fighting Finesse with Area of Expertise (Swords) and Interdisciplinary Specialty (Swords). The second one will need to be transformed-only due to prerequisites but I can't think of a good reason for it to not be transformed-only anyways so whatever, free Beat.

4. Have the same sword be both your Kensai and your Levinbolt.

Altogether that will give you 7 dice with Kensai, 7 dice with Levinbolt, and 5 dice for fencing in mundane form since Shirley's still supposed to be a fencer last I checked. Alternatively, if you'd prefer to drop the second mundane skill dot from Stealth rather than Weaponry (i.e.- have Firearms 0/Stealth 1/Weaponry 2 in mundane form and Firearms 2/Stealth 2/Weaponry 3 while transformed) then you can have 6 dice for mundane fencing which should easily ensure that she's at least one of the best on the team (which is important since depending on how broad "...or let others shine brighter" is meant to be you might otherwise be risking your Specchio every practice).

* For certain definitions of "better" at least; it's still a lot less dot-efficient than "All sword beams, all the time" but you'd have to drop being on the fencing team and that's no fun.

I did add the transformed dots, but we never got an answer on whether it was okay to use Interdisciplinary Specialty in that way. Phlegyas, can we get your thoughts on this? For that matter, I'm now curious about how tough it will be for Shirley to keep her Specchio dots available.

Also, I have an idea for Shirley's first scene. I'd like for her to meet another Courtier of Mirrors. If you've watched Fate Zero, the encounter is intended to play out like the episode "Discussing the Grail". That is, they would meet somewhere for drinks (milkshakes, not wine) and a debate on who is more worthy to be the Heir. It'd be up to you whether a fight breaks out during the discussion. :P

I don't recall this being asked, but you mayuse your speciality so.
the difficulty of keeping those dots up, well, as the gynecologist said, it all depends on the young lady.

The courtier of mirrors might have a different concept of what combat is, tho.

Drachenstern:

That is exactly the sort of thing Interdisciplinary Specialty is for, most people just don't have a way to roll Firearms with a sword is all. Which is probably why he's already said yes.

My guess is it's going to depend a lot on how we want to interpret "...or let others shine brighter." The generous interpretation is "Don't let anyone make you look bad," the difficult interpretation is "Don't let anyone else be the center of attention for any reason." IMO the first of those fits better in context, plus the way I see it the "difficulty" of using Specchio is less that it's supposed to be easy to get banned from and more that not getting banned from it often involves acting in a way that's likely to rub a lot of people the wrong way.

In either case though that's where Shirley's rather... unorthodox views on being an Heir come in. If I'm understanding your concept right then Shirley's goal is to be The BestTM by proxy, and therefore she's inclined to just say "Good thing I helped isn't it?" in situations where other Mirrors would start desperately insisting that they could totally do better themselves. Needless to say the former tactic is much more likely to go over well with Shirley's audience and therefore to not get her banned from Specchio.

I was more thinking the intro scene(s) would feature some of us already together, but I'm fine with whatever Phlegyas comes up with so whatever. I will say though that the book heavily implies that most meetings between Heirs don't play out nearly so cordially. :P

...Also I think it'd be more fun to have Shirley's first meeting with another Mirror happen a little more of a ways into the story when the rest of us can be there to weigh in and/or sit back and watch the fireworks. ;)

Yeah. It's supposed to be in keeping with the Arthurian theme she has going. The King wasn't the best knight (that was either Galahad or Lancelot), but he was arguably the most important one. Similarly, Shirley is working under the assumption that she is the Main Character. She believes the success of her Radiant allies will come about due to her involvement and support.

If you're sensing that a need to be supported in turn and validated plays into this, you are correct.

Works for me. Also, I'm up for whatever type of competition (if not a duel between Heirs) that Shirley's hypothetical rival proposes. Especially if it requires her to enlist the help of her Nakama. Leading to a Power of Friendship aesop.

Or even more especially if the other Heir is expecting Shirley to go it alone but she tags in her nakama and breaks out the friendship speech anyways because that's how she rolls.

I am, don't know about anyone else though.

On a related note, I need to go ahead and update that Condition you're using. I'll post it in the GiantITP for looking-nice reasons.

EDIT: <a href="http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=21150578&postcount=52">Done</a>. The Condition has now been both streamlined and updated for the current game rules. I also changed it so you can still raise an Echo and still have a limited ability to use Bequests, because it's no fun to be without any powers whatsoever.

EDIT 2: Weird, hyperlink isn't working for some reason.

The forum server's been having unspecified problems so if you wait a bit the link should work, but here's the repost anyways:

Truly Mundane (Persistent)

The Princess' connection to the Light is bound more strongly to her transformation than the norm. While in mundane form she may not spend Wisps for any reason, does not add her Inner Light as Supernatural Tolerance, and has no Practical Charms.

Causes: A Princess' Blossoming.

Resolution: The Princess reshapes her phylactery to weaken its grip on her powers; in addition to the normal methods, swearing allegiance to the Court of Mirrors will accomplish this automatically as a side-effect of the Heirs' Practical Magic. If this Condition is resolved, the Princess should immediately choose her Practical Charms.

Beat: The Princess is subject to a detrimental supernatural effect while in mundane form, or suffers a notable difficulty as a result of this Condition.

quote:
Okay, we have a car accident fetish. This means there's something supernatural about it as well, no?

Maybe, maybe not, I vote we leave it for you to decide. ;)

quote:
Is there an Enemy for this chronicle?

Um, the Darkness, followed closely by Tears and/or Storms? I figure deciding who or what the specific threats will be in the chronicle is kind of your job, give or take the antagonist hooks in some of our backstories.

Phlegyas:

If you mean the north star then obviously yes, otherwise I have no idea.
