Masters of the Matrix: Note to Prospective Players

This game is based on the Matrix universe.

Modified GURPS rules will be utilized.  The rules start simple but gradually will become more complex with specialized "Matrix" oriented attributes.

Please send a private message (PM) if you are interested in joining.

If you desire to play, please realize that this is not a short term or one shot deal.  I am looking for players willing to invest their time and energy into the game for the long run, posting once a day to once every other day.

For my other games, please see:
link to "ADnD 2nd -- Inquest Crusaders" (Which completed its run and was active since November 1998.)
link to "Star Frontiers: Destiny Tomorrow"
link to "ADnD 2nd -- Inquest Crusaders: Call of Prophecy" (The next generation of Inquest Crusaders above.)
link to "ADnD 2nd - The Crusaders' Lounge" (A new idea I'm running with.)

Re: Masters of the Matrix: Note to Prospective Players

This is the posted advertisement on this game listed on March 6, 2004

Do you question perception?  Do you wonder if this world is nothing more than a series of 1's and 0's?  Do you crave the power to defy reality and pit yourself against an all-powerful artificial intelligence?  If so, step through the looking glass.

Masters of the Matrix is based on the sci-fi movie phenomenon (including the Animatrix) and takes place when humans first crept out of their Matrix wombs.  The first adventure will begin in a few weeks.  The game rules are based on GURPS, with modifications shown on the web page, including a step-by-step walkthrough of rules, background, and character creation.  As characters progress, they will more fully master the Matrix and gain Skills impossible for ordinary people.

This game emphasizes story, character, intrigue, and--of course--action.  We will leave no stone unturned in exploring the limits of exploiting the Matrix.  Your goal:  Destroy Zero-One and rescue humanity.

Details are located at "Masters of the Matrix" in the SciFi category and on the web site it links to.  Send a PM to me if you wish to join.

Expectations for New Recruits:
(1) Post at least daily or once every other day.
(2) No prior knowledge of GURPS rules is necessary.  A link will lead you to the basic rules.  Good roleplaying and consistent effort is necessary.
(3) Please, please, please use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
(4) Expect a long term commitment.  My previous online RPOL game ran from 1998 to January of this year, and one of its original members will be joining this Matrix game; if you cannot commit to at least one year of real time, do not request to join.
(5) Understand that this game does not involve Neo or The One or any of those characters or expectations from the movies.  Any of you can succeed at shutting down Zero-One...if you survive.
(6) Be ready for twists, turns, betrayals, and combat...and let's not forget the Agents.  Your adventures will make Neo's romp look like a walk in the park.
(7) In the past, I've found that due to the overwhelming popularity of the games I run, I cannot always guarantee acceptance of every request to join, but I will respond to every request, and I will answer any questions.  I may create a waiting list.

About the GM:
(1) I have been roleplaying for 24 years on more worlds than I can count, so I am familiar with many game systems and player types.
(2) I am married with three children and live in Japan, so my posting generally occurs during Japan days/evenings.
(3) I have a post-doctorate degree and work as an international lawyer and law professor; I demand intelligent and intuitive players who treat each other and me with respect, and I will give the same in return.  Do not expect my adventures to be rehashed story models like video games; instead, expect fast-paced combat, extreme tension, moral issues, suspense, philosophy, intelligent villains, and original innovations of the Matrix ideas; it is not a place for anything run of the mill, cliche, or stereotyped.
(4) I push for tight adventures to keep stories moving and interests involved, but I give players absolute freedom to control their characters unless they slack off.
(5) Players breaking rules or not posting in a timely manner may find themselves summarily executed. ;)
(6) To view a portion of my previous campaign on RPOL and see my GM style, visit Inquest Crusaders in the Medieval Fantasy section.  (Its web site links to all previous adventures.)
