Log 2-8

Elle is stabilizing Viper.

The EM machine is emitting a terribly loud whining and whirring sound.  Something is about to happen.

Snow aims at an approaching mutant with the shotgun.

Ted fires another round from the sniper rifle.  He hits a mutant in the head and it falls over, dead.

Snow fires the shotgun...and hits another mutant.  It falls over lifeless onto the ground.

More mutants - an entire hoard of them, in fact - begin climbing over the sides of the train tracks and onto the platform.  They are coming from the ceiling, from both tunnels, and popping up out of the water.  Obviously, their "queen" - for lack of a better word - has warned them or otherwise communicated something to them.  They approach quickly, shambling like monkeys in using their claws like third and fourth feet.  It does not appear that they will stop at the white line.  Something else is driving them...something that will push them beyond the pain of the EM emissions.

And the EM machine makes a pop sound.  It is about ready to blow and is shaking on its tripod...

Jade finds that the train is at maximum speed.  She can push it no further.

The ceiling is dented by the mutant on top of it.  Then a claw starts tearing through the metal like a knife through paper.

Sam is apparently stable for the time being.

Jade has no idea how to power down and doesn't have time to do anything about it because the shockwave hits...

The EM machine can last no longer.  It explodes, sending shrapnel and an EM shockwave out.

Elle, Fault and Ted manage to avoid the shrapnel, but Snow is hit by a flying piece of metal...luckily, it only scrapes his shoulder (2 HT dmg).

Even though he is already negative HT, Snow makes a strong HT check and retains consciousness.
The shockwave sent out by the machine slams into the mutants like a wall, throwing them back in explosive force.  Bodies fly into the walls, the train tracks, and the water.  Those bodies that you can still see within the circle of light appear to be stunned, but not dead.  They are not really moving.

The EM blast did not appear to do anything else or harm anyone else, but the lights and electrical equipment flashed off for a moment.

The EM machine is no longer operating, so the white circle is meaningless now.

The shockwave hits the traincar, and it is like it has suddenly hit the brakes.  No one has braced for the impact, and everyone goes flying backwards...

Jade is thrown against the wall behind her in the control room but is not hurt.

Lot is thrown back but catches hold of the handrail.

Lazarus is able to brace himself against the wall.

Sam is in a seat and is best prepared, so he only slams up against the bar at the end of the bench.

Mitose is thrown completely off balance and slams face first into one of the center bars.  This flips him off his feet and hard to the floor.  (2 HT damage).  He is in no danger of losing consciousness. (8/10 HT remaining).

Although the shockwave is passing beyond the traincar toward station 1, its effects continue.  The traincar is still moving quickly down the tracks, but it is in a jerking motion, first slowing and then accelerating.  The control panels are lighting up and turning off randomly.  The doors to the train begin opening and closing sporatically.

You actually see the mutant's claw as it continues to claw its way through the ceiling of the traincar.

It is going to be a rough ride.

Re: Log 2-8

Jade braces herself against the jerky motions of the train.  "Someone take care of that mutant up there," she yells back to the passenger area.  Then she turns to the controls to see if there is any way to stabilize them, including trying to handle the acceleration/traction gear.

Re: Log 2-8

Snow fires twice at the creatures on the ground which appear to be stunned, then he starts reloading.

Ok People, that seems to have bought us a few moments, lets try to make this place defensible. How about dagging the unconscious behind whats left of the machine, they might still be afraid of it, it could give us a couple of seconds.

He then takes a moment to try and staunch the blood flow from his shoulder

Lot recovers from the shockwave with a grunt.  He returns to his kneeling stance and looks around for his pistol, perhaps it was still under his knee?

Re: Log 2-8

Lot finds his gun.

Jade is messing with the controls.  They do not seem to be very responsive, meaning that the train is likely to pass station 1 and keep going.

You hear a crunching sound under the train.  It has apparently run over one of the mutants.

The flashlights are all dead.  The drill's battery is dead.

And the mutant's arm comes through the hole in the ceiling.  It begins to rip back the metal with inhuman strength.

Elle says, "Help me get Viper over to the train tracks."

As Fault kicks the mutant, its leg begins to twitch.  Then an arm.  Another mutant nearby groans.  They are starting to revive...slowly.

Lot stays in his kneeling position and decides to take the time to reload his pistol.  With Laz covering the hole it seems like a good time.  Things were going to get nasty in the near future, Lot intended to face them with a fully loaded gun.

Fault points his gun down at the mutant he just kicked and fires a shot at the back of its head. Shaking his head disspointedly, he walks over to Elle, and helps her lift Viper from the ground. "Let's hope the train gets here before these things wake up."

Jade takes the walkie-talkie and calls into it, "Guys, we're coming fast.  I'm not able to slow the train down.  That last blast took away our controls.  You think you can jump into a moving train?"

She pauses before yelling back to Lot, Mitose, and Laz, "I'll keep trying to slow the train down.  You guys need to brace the doors open to give them a clear opportunity to jump into the car."

Snow continues to reload, i was meaning defensible until the train gets here, Im not planning on staying any longer than i have too. Have we heard from the ship yet, lets try and get the walkie-talkie working again... Snow will keep an eye on the dazed mutants. If any start to wake properly, he takes aim and fires into their central mass.

Mitose shakes off his fall and gest to his feet, "What about the emergency brakes?  They're usually manual...but can we ease them on and then release them?" He moves to a door, "At top speed, jumping in, here in harsh reality world, is a longshot..."

Re: Log 2-8

10 seconds to station 1

Lot has just reloaded his pistol and it is ready to go.  He is kneeling on the floor of the traincar.

Laz takes very careful aim and fires into the hole.  You hear a squealing, and the arm falls limp.  Laz's aim was true, and his accuracy deadly.

Jade is looking around the controls.  She sees a stick with a grip like a handbrake on a bicycle.

Laz's pistol is still trained on the hole above.

Jade grabs the brake--and everyone is holding their breaths hoping it is the emergency brake Mitose spoke of--and she pulls.

The train begins to screech to a stop.  Everyone is thrown back, but they have braced themselves this time.  No one is injured.

Elle and Fault move Viper to the edge of the platform.  They hear the screeching of the traincar as it approaches, and they catch the sight of sparks as it edges closer.

Snow is standing near the platform with his gun ready.

The mutants are beginning to move and groan.  Three on the far side of the platform sit up.  Snow holds his fire since they are far away.  The ones nearby are starting to roll but not quite conscious.

The handbrake suddenly closes suddenly and easily in Jade's hand.  Its ancient manufacturing has not held up and something has snapped, making the emergency brake useless.

The train has nearly come to a stop at just 10 kph.  Now it begins to speed up again less than a hundred yards from station 1.  At this rate of acceleration, it will be going approximately 40 kph when it reaches station 1.

The doors to the front and back of the traincar both open and close sporatically, still affected by the shockwave.

Something drops onto the window in front of Jade.  Another mutant.  It is trying to come in through the window.  It pulls back its arm to smash the window.

From station 1, the others watch in surprise as the traincar begins accelerating again.  They hear sounds coming from the darkness down the track and the stairwell leading up.  More mutants are on their way--mutants not stunned.

Re: Log 2-8

In order for the others to get into the moving train the doors would have to be braced open.  Lot moves to frontmost door while looking for a suitable piece of something to jam in the door.  Hopefully it would not be necessary to jam the doors with his own arm.  He did not relish the idea of testing the safety precautions on the door under the current circumstances. The subway couldnt have doors crushing passengers, right?

Re: Log 2-8

Fault's eyes glaze over as he hears the noises emanating the darkness, his eyelids twitch slightly. He reaches down and dips his fingers into the blood covering his legs, winching slightly from the pain. Kneeling he begins to drag his bloodied finger across the rough pavement, drawing a small symbol on the aging concrete.
After a moment of scribbling the young man nods. He inhales deeply, and slaps his palm down over the image. "By Kitimur's Thunder, I banish these monsters from my presence!" he screams a bit too loudly.
Sighing contently, he turns to Snow and smiles. "We'll be safe for now."

Jade continues to try to make the train come to a stop at station 1.  She pulls the handgrip more, tries to pull on the wire inside, and also tries to work the main computer brake controls.
