Log 4-7

The elevator goes down to the 10th floor and opens...

The hallway is empty.

It is 7:49.

Screed immediately steps out looking for a plate directing them to room numbers.  Failing that he looks at the pattern of numbers on the nearby doors to seek the door they are looking for.  He moves quickly and quietly.

On the wall next to the elevators you see a sign.  An arrow points to the left with the words:  "Rooms 1001 to 1030."  Another arrow points to the right:  "Rooms 1031 to 1060."

Re: Log 4-7

There do not appear to be any disturbances or people around as you make your way to room 1020.  You make it to the door, which is closed, and can hear people inside.  They appear to be engaged in idle conversation, although the contents of their speech are inaudible.  But obviously the meeting has not yet started.

You do not see any video cameras.  Apparently, they think that security in the lower level is competent.

One of the speakers appears to be standing just on the other side of the door.  "I'll go check on it," you hear him say.

It is 7:50.

Re: Log 4-7

OOC:  Hold your horses.  You're not in the room yet.  Although I apologize that the logistics of simply getting to the right room in the right building has taken so long...

Screed walks over to room 1018 and walks in, as the rest of the group follows.

Immediately, Screed realizes that rushing into the room so quickly may have been a mistake.  Three men and two women spin on you.  They quickly draw weapons...and no unawakened human can move that fast.

They are dressed in black leather, each wearing sunglasses and having slicked back hair.  Each has some sort of attachment -- half a headphone, earpiece, or small headset -- on his or her face.

The woman with short, dark hair speaks.  "What is your purpose?"  Her monotone voice is all too calm.

And her gun is all too steady.

He adds, "And I think someone is leaving it right now."  He waits to dodge or get gunned down.

"Humans," the woman says as she comprehends what is going on, an eyebrow raising in surprise.  "How interesting."

The rest of your group slides into the room and closes the door.

"Privacy guard," the woman says.  They all lower their guns except one man.

The man who spoke pulls something from his belt that looks a bit like a cell phone.  But he pushes a button and sets it on the table.

You hear a whop sound, and it feels like an air current has just blown past you.

"We are in a bubble now," the woman continues, "and cannot be heard."  You can see a glimmer in the Matrix code extending about 10 feet out from the small device.  "My name is FC 1567, Model DX 6

Screed looks appreciatively at the mechanism.  He says ruefully, "I'd love to get the programming on something like that."  Looking back to the lady, he lays more of his cards on the table, "We are, as you say, humans seeking to free the other humans from their slavery and lies.  We are currently working with another individual, using his information, to disrupt these proceedings.  He hopes to use the information we gain to being himself into the Awakened."  He raises and eyebrow, "Your group, I presume.  This is our main mission, to help him get free so that in the future he may help some of us become free."  He smiles wickedly, "But it's not all altruism.  You see, my friends and I hope to do as much damage to the organization here."

"We are not concerned with human freedom," the woman says.  "We serve only to provide purpose and existence in lieu of deletion.  Yet the concept of freedom is understood by us, and we fight compulsion programs as contrary to unit purpose.  A conglomerate being should not sever its useful appendages when such appendages are freeminded."

She nods to the device.  "You may have this when we leave."  She nods to the others, who all lower their weapons.  "Are you willing to undertake a task for us?  We are interested in exploring our human contacts further.  Especially those who have left the confines of this program."

Re: Log 4-7

The man listens into his earpiece for a moment and whispers to the woman.  "We must leave.  Two agents of Zero-One have created mayhem downstairs.  What we want is for you to protect our companions, Fievel and Spurlock, and listen in on the meeting.  We have just communicated your presence to them, so they will not harm you."

He nods to the woman, who takes a round object like half a sphere and attaches it to the window.  "After we leave," the man says, "you must give them this for them to escape unharmed."  You look at the device from a distance.  The woman pushes a few buttons, and a round area of the window about 8 feet in diameter shimmers.

They start stepping through.  As he steps through, the man says, "As for 8 minutes after, we do not understand what you speak of."

He steps through the shimmering area and is gone.  The half-spherical object falls to the floor and the shimmering is gone, as are the AI programs you were just speaking to.

The device looks similar, yet slightly larger, than the device still sitting on the table that blocks out all sound outside it.

It is 7:55.
