Log 4-8

As Screed pushes the button, you hear the meeting already in progress...

It is 8:01 p.m.
"...and I am concerned that we take care of this before we get started," a man's voice is saying.  "Someone here is not here in good faith.  The traitor must be revealed if the Shadow Regime is to gain favor with the Merotechs."

Another man. "We will do what we can, Da Vinci.  Do you know who among us is the traitor?"

A pause of silence.

"Him."  You hear the sounds of a scuffle, then silence.  "We will take care of him later.  He has led agents of Zero-One to this place along with several other intruders that still walk these halls."

"What about our truce?  What about our exchange?"

"You want our technology to make the Shadow Regime stronger, yet the Shadow Regime still bows before Zero-One like a slave before his master."

"What can we do to prove our loyalty?  We will rise up against this master when we have the strength...the strength you will help us obtain."

"We want the Awakened eliminated.  Erased from the master program permanently.  We agree to release information you want for each Awakened you destroy."

"That will be a drain on our resources, Da Vinci."

"Yes, Armand, but we are only AI, and the Awakened can detect us and prevent our attempts far easier than yours."

"What technology will you share with us if we comply?"

"We can alter your genetic programming so that your projected self is stronger and...different.  My lycanthrope programs and vampire programs shall be made available to your people first.  You can self inject or make servants like these."

"You shall have our aid then, but we will need to know where to begin."

"Begin with him," Da Vinci says.  "And then kill the intruders listening to us beyond that wall."  There is a silence as you can feel all the gazes turning toward the wall where you listen in from.  "My infrared vision sensors pick up eavesdroppers."

You hear a sudden sound and then a familiar woman's voice.  "Let him go or know the wrath of the Awakened."  It is the woman you just spoke with a few minutes back.

Da Vinci seems nonplussed.  "Kill them all," he says.

Screed yelps.  He grabs the equipment and quickly stuffs it in his bag as he flees to the other side of the room.  He hopes he has enouh time to get his guns out.

He pulls out his weapons from the bag and curses under his breath. Things never... ever... went to plan. The dangers of being a freed mind... The man heads towards the door, looking to the rest.

"I think either the fastest or the best fighter should go in and grab Da Vinci. The rest of us help our new allies, and then go find the monsters."

Screed looks at the others, "Guys, I think they're probably coming through the wall."  He emphasizes his belief by dropping behind a some furniture.

Shadow pulls his pistol free of it's holster and looks back and forth from the door to the wall.

Screed pipes up, "Good choices, Rabbit.  And Dracos, feel free to take the best fighter position and grab Da Vinci."  He checks his ammo and suggests, "Don't forget about your focus speed and sixth sense," at which point he tries to use his own sixth sense.

Jade steps back against the window to follow the others' plan, her machine gun pointing at the door and swiveling toward the wall, if necessary.  "Yeah, don't forget your special skills.  We'll need everything we've got for this one."

OOC: Between the meeting room i'm in and the other PC's room are there relatively close windows? Also is there the slight jut of wall edging from a window in this room?

OOC: These are skyscraper rooms.  There is one door in and out to the hallway, and windows line the opposite wall, but there is no way to open the windows manually from the inside or ledge just outside.

Codec is being held by two men with pistols.  Da Vinci has two next to him, a man with an albino-like complexion, and another with dark hair and shadowed eyes, clad in a black trenchcoat.  They stand near the window and have just risen from their seats, watching the reaction.

Armand, the leader from the Shadow Regime, is looking back and forth between Codec and Da Vinci.  His bodyguard stands next to him.

There are four others in the room who were participating in the meeting.  They pull out Uzis and point them at the Awakened intruders.

Two of the Awakened you met, the woman and the man who spoke, stand at the far end of the room, each holding a pistol in each hand, one pistol each pointed at a Shadow Regime member and at a Merotech member of the meeting.  "Let's not do this the hard way," the woman says.  "Give Codec to us and we will leave you peacefully."

There is a tense moment of silence.  Then Da Vinci makes a slashing motion across his throat and points at the intruders.

Gunfire erupts, and chaos along with it.  The two men holding Codec let go to dive for cover, leaving Codec standing unguarded and unprotected about 5 feet from the door.

As bullets fly, the two intruders are cut down by the uzis and collapse to the floor.  But they have taken four with them--the two that were holding Codec, a Shadow Regime member, and a Merotech member.

"Get the others!" Da Vinci roars, pointing toward the adjoining room.

[OOC: Since everyone seemed to be just buckling down to wait for them, here they come.  Codec is nearest the door and can easily sneak out to the hall (and the adjoining room with the other party members or toward the elevators).]

The three remaining men with Uzis begin to move toward the door.  Armand's bodyguard is dead, but Armand is alive, as well as Da Vinci and his two strange bodyguards.

Screed is more than willing to be the last out.  In one hand he will carry the item for the awakened and the other will have his blaster.  He has no intentions of being a hero.  He will wait right where he is, but is prepared to toss the item the awakened need, when they need it.

[I will activate and drop a smokebomb and run to the room w/ the others.  If there is any type of table near me w/ floppies, disks, or weapons on it I will grab it]

Screed suggests, "Yes, one person concentrate on Da Vinci, Everyone else watch out for the unknown bodyguards.  I have a bad feeling about them.  They are going to be tough.  Coordinate with Armand.  Get the device!"  He barks quickly into the headsets, keeping his head down and his gun up.

 Cala stuffs the pistol into her belt and strides out of the room, past Codec, and into the other room. She Activates her focus as soon as she crosses the threshold.
 If she can see Da Vinci, she will move to him, if not she will move through the smoke looking for him. Once she has reached him she will attempt to grapple him (Judo 18). She will then try to haul him back toward the door.

Dracos attempts to exit through the door into the hallway, with his pistol. With any luck, he could try to sneak around the back of their enemies. The teen will also keep an eye out for any sign of reinforcements coming their way.

OOC: I haven't gotten everyone's details yet, so I may need to do some estimating.

Just to make the battlefield easy to picture:

Both rooms are 20 feet long by 10 feet wide.  The windows are on one 20 foot long wall and the door in each room is on the other 20 foot long wall.  The rooms share a 10 foot wall.

Screed, Rabbit and Shadow are taking cover behind the table.  Jade, Cala and Dracos make it partway to the door before the men with the uzis make it there.

They raise their uzis to shoot...

Codec has dropped a smoke bomb, which begins to send smoke all throughout the office.  There are no documents or items to grab, as the table was empty.  His escape is somewhat blocked by the three men with the uzis, although they do not seem to be paying him attention.  Armand, however, is raising a pistol to fire.


With these details, please be very specific about what you are going to do...limiting yourself to three seconds worth of actions at a time.

Jade dives to the floor, and if Cala gets out of the way, she fires a burst in the direction of 1 and 2 and will continue to fire bursts until her ammo is depleted.

OOC: Who the heck is Armand?

Codec will go into focus and...:
1.) pull out M-16
2a.) shoot Armand if he's trying to kill me...IF NOT
2b.) shoot whichever guard next to DV w/ less armor or more of a threat
3.) do a running dive and attempt to take cover behind one of the ex-awakend.

NOTE: If the smoke blocks my vision than I will use Penetrating Vision to see thru it if possible if it doesn't require an action or can fit into my 3 sec. focus.

Armand is the representative from the Shadow Regime who was there for the negotiations with Da Vinci.  So Armand is a human (who knows he's in the Matrix and also has special...skills) while Da Vinci is a Merotech AI.

The smoke is starting to block vision, but more down low than up high.  So diving under the table or something like that would be putting yourself mostly in the smoke.

"Squid girl is gonna have a rough time doing this by herself."
Not waiting for an answer, Shadow stands and begins shooting at those in the doorway.

If you're shooting at someone, can you please give the number of the person you are aiming at, or if you are doing a sweep or some maneuver with an automatic weapon?

OOC:  Keep in mind that rounds are 1 second.  It takes 1 second to ready a weapon plus one second for each aim…to avoid a quickdraw penalty.

Round 1:
Cala drops to the left against the wall, stopping before she gets too close to the door.  Her pistol is stuffed into her belt.

Jade fires her M-16 in a continuous stream at the door.

Uzis blast into the room from the doorway.

Screed fires at the second uzi-wielder.

Dracos stops before getting too close to the door and raises his weapon.

Rabbit fires toward the doorway.

Shadow readies his weapon.

Jade is hit by Uzi fire.  (8 dmg).  The shots whiz by Dracos’ head and hit Rabbit.  Rabbit is hit in the head by a burst.  (25 dmg).  Rabbit falls to the ground.  A burst from guy 3 slams into the turned over table behind which Screed hides, sounding like pellets hitting wood.

Screed hits Uzi guy 2 and Jade makes a good sweep of the whole group.  Guy 2 collapses from the fire.  Guys 1 and 2 stand in the doorway to get a good sweep.  Rabbit misses.

Codec goes into focus mode (Focus 3):
Round1-1 He unstraps his M-16.
Round 1-2 He lifts it up while diving down into the smoke under the table.
Round 1-3 He aims at Armand.

Round 2:
Uzi blasts again fire into the room.  This time, Cala takes a shot in the leg.  (7 dmg).  Screed and Shadow make defensive rolls and fall behind the table as a spray comes near them, just missing them.  They are out for the round.

Jade fires another stream, knocking guy 3 back as he is pelted with bullets.  Dracos also hits him, and guy 3 is down.

Cala’s weapon is now out and ready.

Codec comes out of Focus mode and fires at Armand.  Armand is unprepared for the quick focus maneuver and loses sight of Codec in the smoke.  (No defenses.)  He is pelted with bullets and collapses to the floor.

Round 3:
Guy 1 is pelted with bullets from the entire group as Screed and Shadow step up and fire, Cala and Dracos fire, and Jade finishes off her clip in the doorway.  He falls dead over the top of his two companions.

Codec is moving deeper into the smoke, but it is starting to sting his eyes.

It is 8:06.

Jade runs out of the door and peeks around the other office's door with her gun raised and ready, although she does not step into the doorway.  "We've got you surrounded, Da Vinci," she says.  "Surrender now and come with us."

Screed calls, "Get to Codec!"  His desire to protect his comrades overcomes his desire to fulfill the mission at the moment.  He dodges into the clear and moves to Rabbit even though from what he saw, there's not much he will be able to do.

OOC: are the 2 guys still around DV? Is Armand dead? How thick is the smoke compared to my visibility?

Codec sits in the smoke and breathes slowly to calm his racing heart as well as to avoid attracting any unwanted attention.

If the smoke blocks my vision I'll use penetrating vision to see thru it. I will then crawl towards the closet body guard and aim and shoot w/ my M-16 w/ alternating shoots toward BG1 and 2.

The smoke is now obscuring all sight of DV and his bodyguards.  Armand is dead.  The smoke is filling up the entire room except the east wall area.

Ok, if smoke covers me I will get up (silently), move to the smoke filled wall where DV/BG1&2 are and rush tackle all 3 of them as silently as possible.

Dracos will head into the hallway to check for more threats before pointing his gun straight at Da Vinci's Head, "Give me a reason, mofo. There's quite a few of us you'd have to deal with, and I'm pretty sure we'd win. So just coem with us quietly."

Shadow gives a quick look to Screed then to Rabbit,

"That isn't good."

Shadow follows the others to the hallway, the image of Rabbit's head exploding still fresh in his mind.  Once there, his rage begins to build over the man the would more than likely lose today.  Moving quickly into the next room, Shadow goes into focus speed to return the favor.

"Your gonna pay DaVinci !"

FYI, you cannot see Da Vinci or his bodyguards through the thick smoke.  (Read my last post again.)  So no one knows where his "head" is exactly.

And no one's really using their codebreaker skills much...

Screed moves to Rabbit, who is indeed dead.


Jade is now between the doorways.  Dracos moves into the hallway next to Jade.  Shadow follows, and they are all three standing between the two doors in the hall.


You hear a click and a high pitched beeping.

Codec moves around the table to rush tackle the figures hidden in the smoke.

Some...thing emerges from the smoke, rushing right back at Codec.



The two prepare to lock in combat as Da Vinci also steps from the smoke.  A device like those used by the Awakened is in his right hand, and he slaps it on the window as he raises something in his left hand...a samurai sword.


Meanwhile, in the room next door, something steps directly through the wall, holding an Uzi in one hand and a long-bladed dagger in the other.  It takes on form again once through the wall.

And the only one left for it to lock its gaze on is Screed.

Screed's face falls as he exclaims in fear, "Oh sh.."  He acts without thinking.  Entering focus speed, he darts for the door.  He shouts to get people out of the way, "MOVE!"

OOC: I'll charge the werewolf using my shield in my off hand up front for def. I will shoot at it w/ my M-16 while charging and attempt to avoid DV.

Dracos sprints towards the room where Da Vinci and Company is at the moment. Da Vinci is concern number 1, followed by whatever else happens. They needed to get Da Vinci at once.

Jade fires her M-16...and a couple rounds seem to hit the werewolf creature, but do not slow him considerably.

Screed begins to run out the door.  The vampire-like creature that just walked through the wall glances in Screed's direction.

Screed, however, is in Focus mode (-3 CB Fatigue) and is moving quickly.

The vampire creature fires his uzi at the departing Screed, but Screed's focus has saved him this time.  A trail of bullets hits the wall as Screed runs out into the hall next to Dracos, Jade and Shadow.  Screed can barely believe he escaped unharmed.

Da Vinci pushes a button on the device, and the Matrix appears to shiver around him.  In a strange optical illusion, it appears that a hallway of doors opens directly behind him.  As he waits for the Matrix to stabilize, Da Vinci holds up his sword to ward off any attackers.

The werewolf creature slams head on into Codec, bringing its giant claws to bear down.  Codec lifts his shield, which blocks an attack, but another claw gets through, dangerously close to his throat.  (5 dmg)  Codec fires his M-16 at point blank range.  The werewolf creature is riddled with bullets and falls over to the side off of Codec, but it is still alive and preparing to attack Codec again.

Dracos runs into the room after Da Vinci, jumping onto the table as Da Vinci backs toward the portal doorway with samurai sword raised.  Codec and the werewolf struggle just to his right.

Codec enters focus mode
Glares at DV, "DV is makin a RUN FOR IT!!!

Focus Mode:
1.) Moves away from werewolf and reloads M-16
2.) Fires at werewolf
3.) Runs and shoots at DV w/ M-16 in order to prevent him from escaping. I'll use my shield to block his sword if he attempts to swing at me.

Eyes wander over to werewolf, "You ain't bulletproof yet...", he mutters smiling.

Dracos lowers his pistol towards the man's knees and fires at them as fast as he can. Hopefully with the distraction of being shot in the knee, it would be long enough to get to him and detain him.

RULES ALERT:  Because we are into a reloading issue, let me restate the GURPS rules for reloading (for Codec and Jade at the moment).

Remember first that one turn equals one second, and you are preparing for three seconds every post during combat, so it may be more turns for seconds you are in focus speed.

Each "turn," you can perform one "maneuver."  Maneuvers are listed here:  http://www.fortunecity.com/riv.../693/matrix/id37.htm

Note that some maneuvers take more than one second.

RELOADING From page 96 of the Basic Rules:
For replaceable magazines in a magazine gun (like the M-16's), it takes 3 seconds (one to prepare, one to acquire, and one to insert).

Integral magazines and revolvers are different.  Ask if you need to know.

If you have the "Fast Draw" skill, then it can speed reloading (see pg. 50).  This would fall under the "Fast Draw: Speedloader" skill.  (Note: I think this was taken out of the 4th edition, if you are using those rules.)

And don't forget about the Aim maneuver to avoid aiming penalties.

Turn 1
Empty of bullets, Jade slings her M-16 over her shoulders.

Turn 2
Jade pulls the stun rifle out of her knapsack.

Turn 3
Jade whips up the stun rifle to point at the retreating Da Vinci and take quick aim.

While she is doing this, she is maneuvering around the room to get the best direct line of sight with Da Vinci, moving forward and around the table towards the portal opening.

All the time, she is yelling, "Get out of my way.  I'll stun the bastard!"

Moving quickly into the room, Shadow closes in on Da Vinci staying close to the wall.

Turn 2
Once there, Shadow attempts to grapple Da Vinci's sword arm, forcing it up behind his back.

Turn 3
Shadow applies a large amount of force to Da Vinci's arm, attempting to neutralize his only obvious weapon.

Watching him closely, Shadow prepares his focus speed in case Da Vinci should escape into the strange portal.

Okay, after much delay on my part (sorry, but GURPS lends itself to the details), here is what happens in the next three seconds:

8:06 p.m.
ROUND 1

Codec enters Focus Time
The werewolf enters Focus Time
The vampire enters Focus Time
Da Vinci enters Focus Time
Shadow enters Focus Time

<round 1.1>
Codec Moves away from the werewolf.
Moving quickly into the room, Shadow closes in on Da Vinci staying close to the wall.  He skirts around left behind Jade to go around the table.
The werewolf gathers itself up and steps back toward the portal, still facing out toward the party.
Da Vinci moves deeper into the portal.
The vampire begins moving toward the exit of the room.

<round 1.2>
Codec continues moving away from the werewolf.  He is now in the SE corner of the room.
Shadow is moving around the table toward the portal.
Da Vinci holds his sword up defensively and grabs the werewolf's shoulders to drag it into the portal.
The werewolf moves into the portal.
The vampire rounds the corner with his Uzi ready.

While this is going on:
Dracos lowers his pistol toward Da Vinci's knees and aims.  He yells: "SCREED! JADE! GET IN HERE!"
Jade slings her M-16 over her shoulders and successfully rolls against Fast Draw to get out the stunner.  She is maneuvering to the left inside the room so that the werewolf will not block her shot at Da Vinci.  She yells: "Get out of my way.  I'll stun the bastard!"
Screed is running toward the portal entry.

<round 1.3>
As he moves, Codec is reloading.  He snaps a magazine into his M-16.
The werewolf breaks free of Da Vinci's grip and squats to launch itself into the corner where Jade, Screed, Shadow and Dracos are moving.
Shadow is moving away from the corner and is quickly approaching the portal now.
Da Vinci lets go of the werewolf and moves back into the portal.  There are a line of white doors in a hallway through the portal, and he grabs the doorknob of a nearby door.


ROUND 2
Dracos fires at Da Vinci's knee but misses.

Screed sees the werewolf coming and ducks under the table to crawl under instead of going head to head against it.

Shadow continues to maneuver closer and is only a few feet from the portal.

Jade makes a fast draw roll and fires the stunner.  She hits Da Vinci, and he collapses into a paralytic fit, sword still held in hand.

The vampire rounds the corner, lifting his Uzi to fire.

The werewolf launches itself, but everyone except Jade has left the area.  He lands on Jade, knocking her to the ground.  (4 dmg)

Da Vinci is momentarily stunned by the rifle.

ROUND 3
Screed jumps up on the other side of the table, going into the portal at the same moment as Shadow.  They both enter the portal, and it shuts behind them.

Dracos sees the vampire round the corner and dives for cover under the table just in time.

Codec arcs fire across the room, hitting the large figure of the werewolf even as it prepared to attack Jade again.  The werewolf falls dead beside Jade, who is now severely wounded after the Uzi attack earlier.

The vampire fires, and now Codec is the only person in his line of sight.  Fortunately, the vampire did not take time to aim, and his shots go wild around Codec.

Shadow and Screed are now in the hallway with Da Vinci, but the portal has shut.  No one can see what is going on inside now.
Dracos, Codec, and Jade are left with the vampire standing in the doorway holding an Uzi and a dagger.  Jade is in the SW corner of the room, Codec is in the SE corner, and Dracos is near the far center where the portal had been -- but where now there is just a window looking out into the night.

RULES UPDATE
I got some advice on the fast draw maneuver based on the rule I posted above:

The Speed Load skill cuts the time to actually load rounds into a magazine -- putting bullets into the gun.

The Fast Draw skill (in particular, Fast Draw: Magazine) would be used for getting the magazine from your person to the gun.

So a successful roll for each of these would cut the reloading process by one second each.

GURPS:
Stunners are non-lethal sonic weapons.  They will not work in a vacuum.  Anyone hit by a hand stunner must roll HT-3 (HT at 12 yds or more) to avoid its effects.  Every 5 points of DR gives a +1 to this roll; this is the only protection armor offers.  If a limb is hit, it is incapacitated for 20 - HT minutes; on a head or body hit, the victim is unconscious for the same period of time.  A critical failure on the HT roll triples the duration.  Victims cannot be revived before this.

For stun rifles, the roll is HT - 6 (HT -3 at 300 yds or more).

Da Vinci falls into the category of being knocked unconscious by Jade's shot.

The vampire goes into focus speed.

Codec fires his M-16.

Jade fires her stunner from where she lays on the ground.

Both of them watch as their shots pass directly through the vampire.

The vampire reaches Jade, still in his insubstantial form.

ROUND 6
The vampire becomes substantial again and fires his Uzi at Jade.  He makes a direct hit, and Jade collapses, eyes staring into the sky.

Codec continues to fire a stream of bullets.  His improved aim with the stream helps him make successive hits on the vampire, which collapses from the bullets and falls right over his dead companion, the werewolf.

Dracos, having not been able to shock the Vampire stands and picks up the Uzi and checks the vampire's pockets for more ammo. If Jade was dead, it was even more imperative they finish their mission.

He checks his radio, "Screed, Cala, Shadow, do you read? I think we've lost Jade."

Adam stands as he waits for a response, glancing to Codec, he holds out his hand, "Dracos. If I can't reach them, you and I will have to do some work ourselves."

Shadow and Screed note/remember that there are numbers on the doors on the left side, starting with 1, and letters on the right side, starting with A.

They go 1 through 5 on the left and A through E on the right.


Dracos discovers that Jade is, in fact, dead.  He and Codec are the only ones left.

Of your entire party, only Shadow, Screed, Codec and Dracos still live.  The other have died or...mysteriously vanished.  What happened to Cala anyway?  And to Mitchell?

You hardly have time to ponder this.  Something is nagging you about the time.  Those voices in the hallway by the elevator.  The ones that said to "cut it at 8:08."

It is still 8:07.
