Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

I am planning on getting Chaos in the Old World.  The card game looks interesting as well but I am really trying to avoid card games....flash backs form my MTG days (even though it is totally different).

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

More than enough=:)  I have sooooooo many minis waiting to paint that I promised myself I would not buy any more until I started painting again.  Well I kept that promise for a couple of months (and have done no painting) and recently found a box of old Mordenheim Skaven on evilbay.....well I could not resist (since I mentally broke my promise and planned on buying some Skaven for my Fantasy game as they are going to be an ongoing opponent.....) and am looking forward to 10 more minis that will wait in queue to be painted.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

In vast research done this game may not very suitable to pbp, the game flow is very organic and a NPC element is added.  Turns would most likely last days at a fast clip.  The Senior Cardinal does not give very good chances to running one on RPol but if you can run Arkham Horror you can run anything Emperor's faith willing and the patience of Saint Leonis "the blind".

Game design at FF really cant not be given enough credit compared to most companies, it may take awhile for supplements and such but the seem to almost be killing off the need to ever need completely re-hauling any system this goes back to Silver Line games and continues.

A new cover is all Red November needed and it is as good as new, some of those systems have got to be dated in the 80's.  A small Warhammer or Dark Heresy or even the RT hooligans could use a small, one hour game, and actual one hour game.  I sadly report all concepts and future outlook for Space-Hulk will most not likely appear for some time *bows head and mutters a prayer*. Unless someone has created their own warp version or knows different, *stops praying looks around forum*.

"Don't be joking Algard you genius a link if you ever have the time, my blips are all that I have left man", the Senior Cardinal must be restrained by acolytes.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

G’day everybody, I’m new here so be gentle. I have just been reading through some of the posts and wanted to reply to ‘Banjo’ about his greatcoat woes, i have a couple of questions.

1: do you want to play in GW tourneys?
2: do you usually play a a GW store?

If so this isn’t an answer because they are not GW minis but they are quite cool and I believe cheaper than forgeworld. Check out this sight and look at the Kolony range. It also has many cool head upgrade packs, perfect for upgrading guard armies

http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/index.htm

Also I believe the Tyranid codex along with the Dark elder are the ones with the greatest need of an upgrade but because about 70% of 40k players collect Imperial armies: Imperial Guard, Space marines etc. Games workshop gives them the love first because it sells models, sad but true.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

I am so pleased with the new Ork stuff, I just need time to play it.  I have almost broken my rule not to buy anything else until I paint what I have upon laying my eyes on the new battlewagon.  Sigh....if only I played more I'd get it.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

I am lucky that we have a pretty active community were I live. Tournaments once a month, alternating with the Fantasy battles, which I have a dwarf army for, but I have never been able to play a game with someone, must be because I don't use slayers, or a shit ton of thunderers, it throws everyone off.

Yah!  My Mordheim Skaven Warprunners just came in.  Boo!  More stuff to assemble and paint.  I keep lying to myself and promising not to buy more plastic crack until I get the old stuff painted but it never last more than a few months.  I paint one miniature for every 10 I buy=:(  These guys are going to be fun to assemble but surprised there are no globethrower bitsies.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

Once again the members of the Conclave had to restrain the Cardinal from reading all 32 pages of a corrupted document known as the "Rules to Chaos in the Old World" PDF.

The first ten pages had the Senior drooling and sweating talking of board games made of stretched human skin, die of teeth it gets worse.  Yes FF let us have the rules now we can complain and find the problems with what was a game I have to admit would have bought for the box for frakk's sake, that is as sick as is it almost true.  I am sure the complaint will be that it looks too simple or that they could have done more?

But maybe FF knew they had something they could expand "TO THE MAX!".  One can only wish, but hey you get to build your own threat dials games have not done that since I was a nipper.  CHAOS MEETS TROUBLE, now push the Nurgle-Popper Stan it is your turn.  Good stuff FF.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

Here's something I hope I can get some help with.

I'm currently painting a Space Marines army. This time around I'm building it step-by-step, paying attention to detail and making it "my own", so to speak. (Haven't done so with my earlier armies, but then again - I was much younger and dumber back then...)

So I'm making my own Chapter (pending a name, but I'm leaning towards 'Swords Sanguine'). I've always liked the look of the Dark angels veterans with robes and all. In general I like robes over heavy armor. So my tactical squads all use DA veteran models (without DA icons). Most other models have greenstuffed robes. The armor is matte red (Mechandrite Red, if you want to be technical), with a beige/brown robe (Dheneb Stone). (Devlan Mud is used as wash, with white highlights on the robes)

I envision the Chapter to function as a cross between a feudal society and monastic order with a few modern, practical views on a few things, but still living fairly close to the Codex Astartes. But that's besides the point. My real point is that I'm struggling to paint my Librarian!

The point is rather that I don't want my librarian (who's in terminator armor, I might add) blue. In fact, the clear librarian blue color doesn't look all that good with the colors I have. Point is: To blue or not to blue (and what to paint blue if anything). I'd like some fluff and hobby input :)

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

Unfortunately, seeing as it's part of the Warhammer 40,000 fluff for all Librarians to have some form of blue on their armour, then there isn't much you can. Perhaps you can paint a shoulder pad blue, and the rest your own colours? Admittedly, Librarians can get away with a little blue, unlike Marine Chaplains and Marine Apothecaries.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

Yeah, I was thinking about a shoulder pad or knee or something as anything more will look weird. I value consistency above fluff, but that is not to say I don't want to take the fluff into account... Which means that if I ever get myself a Chaplain I'll get a serious headache... He'll look like your average Black Templar with the robes I'm using. That's no fun. Could give him red robes perhaps. That's more fun. For any Apothecaries I guess I could simply reverse my color scheme. Should work fine.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

I have seen many librarians, techmarines and apothecaries painted in chapter colours with only the shoulder pad and iconography picked out in the related colour. Dark angles for one don’t make very attractive librarians, green and blue doesn’t work that well in my opinion.  From what i have seen in forums and white dwarves Chaplains are the only ‘specialist’ that must at all times wear their specific armour.

I would keep your chapter colour and just pick out certain parts of the models in their respective colours like the shoulder pad a knee pad the psychic hood etc.

I'll see if I can find some pictures.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

As a space wolf player, I paint all of mine in chapter colors. Also I use a dark gray, not that baby blue.

As far as I am concerned you can paint your models in chrome if you want.

That would be nice. I tried to search around but couldn't really find any.

Haha, yeah. People dip and spray nids, after all. (Chrome Gray Knights would most likely look really good, actually).

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

How about this for a Librarian. This is the librarian model in the new Space Hulk game which is looking fantastic, I dont even feel like moaning at GW's mystery box approach with the promotion "it's something that has never been seen before". I pre-ordered my copy today and will be palying on Saturday morning at a special promo event at GW, supposedly they will be providing breakfast as well.
