Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

that just rids you of the save completely, unfair i know, but that's what ward saves are for.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

I'm waiting for Blood Bowl Legendary(?) which (will supposedly have) has all the currently released teams.  Blood Bowl is so much fun.  Even the fluff is fun!  I look forward to having my team of halflings pasted (literally) in every match ^^

Sorry lapsed blood bowl fanboy here.

Warhammer Tabletop 8th edition

Anyone tried the new, 8th edition of Warhammer yet? If yes, are there general feelings about the new edition? It is better? It is worse? It is more fun?
I just had only 1 game in it yet, but I have really great feelings about it.

Re: Warhammer Tabletop 8th edition

I am curious about attempting to run a game on here that is partly-based upon the Warhammer 40k Miniatures game, more so than a normal RT or DH game. Of course, I'd especially love it if the Deathwatch game would come out sooner. I'm going to be trying to get the Codex's for the factions. I already have Space Marine and Orks. I know, that's a lot left to get, but perhaps I might just start out with these two and expand into the Chaos Marines and then into other stuff? Currently only have the Dark Heresy base book and nothing else.

I'd love it if some folks would give me advise on what they think of this and, should anyone love to co-admin with me, I'd love it.

Re: Ultramarine movie

I dunno about this, I had hoped for something.... more. More along the lines of the Star Craft 2 cinematics. Still I am gonna reserve judgement 'til I see a bit more.

Uhm... heh. I realize that the Ultramarines are an important Chapter, but I wouldn't call them the Greatest. One of the Greatest, yes.

Re: Ultramarine movie

I think the Ultramarines have always had a small problem.  In that they are the most commonly used poster boy (except when another chapter needs to be promoted) and that that was what they came to be seen as with no real bite.  IIRC near the release of the Space Marine Codex the designers said they wanted to change that.  From the fan backlash it seems the opposite effect occurred.
With them also featuring heavily in the new Relic game Space Marine and this new movie, it seems that there is a determined campaign to make the Ultramarines chapter seem "cool".

Myself I quite liked the various fists chapters Crimson Fists, Imperial Fists, Whitescars, but my first true marine love came with Dark Millenium and the initial release of the Grey Knight Terminators.

Occasionally I think that I really must paint up eiher my sisters of battle or buy up Space Marines in order to do the Order/Brotherhood of the Sacred Litany.

Re: Ultramarine movie

Ultramarines get a lot of hype in the setting, like their Primarch writing the codex, them coming out pretty scot free from the Heresy, and the overwhelming majority of chapters being based on their geneseed, and their welcome to it.

What annoys me is when it overshadows the achievements and sacrifices of the other First Founding chapters. GW have blown cold and cold on glorious chapters like the Iron Hands, White Scars and Raven Guard. It's true the other chapters, such as Dark Angels and Blood Angels have stolen some of this limelight too, but basically the mentioned chapters are Ultramarines with a single special character and a different paint job.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

Chaos in the Old World (the board game in the above comic strip) is actually surprisingly cool. I had avoided it since I expected it to be a weak game slapped on a cool theme but there is actually a lot of depth to the gameplay. I really like the way the different Chaos factions play differently.

Does anyone play WFB still? It seems to be a dying hobby here in the States. My poor orcs and Brettonians are collecting dust without a foe to fight. :(

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

My (State-side) GW was pretty much all Fantasy when 8th started making itself known, and has now found a balance of 40k and Fantasy. I can go there most days and expect to get a game in of either.

Re: Warhammer 40k Tabletop

Space Hulk: Death Angel the card game.

Nice!  A package arrvived for me this morning and it was my new toy I ordered 3 weeks ago from evilbay!

Okay.  So I'm a bit sick today and went in to work later than I normally do so I did try a quick game of it.  The game almost got chucked out the window after trying to figure out the rules, but I stopped myself and decided to try and learn as I went....the rules were initially confusing and poorly laid out but I think I figured them out. The cards have great art and flavour text, and the card stock is nice and thick.  There is one special six-sided die and a few thick tokens as well, and it all packs up in a nifty little box the same size as Red November (Another great game!  Go get it!)  From memory there are the terminator cards (2 per team), action cards, event cards, location cards, terrain cards, 'stealers (cards- duh)....and I think that covers it.

Any game were you can solo or play with up to 6 players cooperatively is well worth a try in my books and I had fun once I got through the frustration of trying to decipher the rules.  I was a bit worried this might be a game which had an constantly expanding map (like Zomibies which can get pretty big quickly), but this one stays the same reasonable size with "movement" as terrain and the locations change up.  Run out one of the two "blips" of stealers and you draw a new location card, deploy new terrain and keep the same formation of your termies and whatever 'stealers followed you.  Go through all the locations until you hit the end one and then complete whatever objective is on the card and you all win.

I tried three random fire teams of terminators and by far the librarian was the most potent.  Each team has a different card colour to make things easy, and each has unique actions (which may be attack, move or support).  This will be great fun with more than one player as half the challenge will be guessing what actions your comrades will be using and trying to complement their moves.  Each player picks a card to play and they are all resolved in order determined by the number on the card (lowest>highest).  Any surviving 'stealers get to fight back and then you also draw an event card for more maddness.

With only a few mistakes (I think) I managed to get to the last location (a toxic pump room or something like that) with two termies but got over-run. I'm sure I screwed some things up but think it was fun and I might just give it another try now while I wait for posts=:)
