What do people think of the rules in general, and the tweaks included in this week's update, then?

I think the update helps clarify quite a few bits (like the Favoured Weapons section), and fixes some bits that needed it (like the availability of Lascannons and Meltaguns/Multi-Meltas).

However, I still think that some things covered in it need further tweaking, such as:

Ogryns - since it's possible for them to start off with Int 5 or so, and they aren't quite as low intelligence in the fluff as animals - they should be around 15 or so I reckon. Plus they need to increase Unnatural Toughness and Strength to +4, in my eyes, since they're meant to at least be the equal of a Marine in terms of raw power, if not overall ability.

Vanquisher - I think the cannon needs to be more effective against other tanks - possibly a flat +20 to Penetration and perhaps an increase in damage when shooting tanks, since they aren't very good against infantry, but are potential 1-hit-kill weapons against most tanks according to the fluff.

They also need to tackle other stuff I think, like reducing the Structural Integrity and/or Armour of Tanks, since they're crazy tough at present, wish most anti-tank weapons not doing all that much against them.

Character and regiment generation will be done as a party, since as a squad-based military game, what regiment you're going to be, and the characters your fellow players want to play, will have at least some impact on what you want to play, and the character you end up generating.

What I have read seems alright so far. However, I haven't read everything yet. And, at least for me, I get a better gauge on a game and its rules by playing through them.

I do agree that the Ogryns need to be a little tougher and/or stronger.

I am really interested to see how the comrade system plays out.

I'm extremely pleased by the advancement system they have in OW. It is pretty much exactly what I hoped it would be.

Yeah, that is nice. Having suggested advances, but freeing it for you to take whatever - but cheaper with things you are good at.

I like it, it got all the good stiff from DH and BC. I prefer the Ogrynn as he is though, this is not Deathwatch and the diff betwen someone with and witholut unnat x2 is quite a lot.

It's not UN S x2, it's UN S +2. Huge difference.

And considering the Ogryn has a choice of, what, like 6 weapons? I think giving them a little more strength/toughness isn't going to hurt anyone. They're already the dumbest possible character you can play in any of the 40k series. They can't use any of the fun weapons or most of the cool wargear. They kindly give all their attackers a +10 to hit them. And you don't think it'd be appropriate to give them a couple extra points of damage?

I played one, they are quite fun and what wargear? Do you really think that you will have any? Have you studied the appropriating of wargear yet? So far, my twam has had zilch succes there.

For the Ogryn it would be nice if they add in the the Biochemical Ogryn Neural Enhancement (BONE) to make Bone'eads. Unless it is there and I just missed it.

Nope, it's not, and it would be cool to have it, since it'd at least allow Ogryns to be not entirely retardation-level intelligence.

Hell, they could have just said that PC Ogryns all have BONE implants, and reduced the Int modifier to -5 or -10.

I still think that, instead of a flat negative to Int (or alongside a -5 modifier), they should just have a -20 modifier to all Lores other than (Imperium), (Imperial Guard) and (War).

I think Ogryn suffer from the same problems Orks do in a roleplaying system. They are either super special snowflakes to give them depth or they are one dimensional and get boring very quickly. They are a neat addition though. But It Dark in Dere! never fails to make me laugh a bit.

I totally agree that Ogryn PCs should come with BONE implants. Only War already states that PCs are a cut above the average IG soldiers.

Alright, I've reformatted a DW Text Character Sheet to work with OW. I would say enjoy, but the forums break it and I'm not sure how to fix it.

It was a I like to keep the4 Ogrynns as they are right now vote

It was also a reminder that cool items don't happen a lot. The system to gain goodies is brutal.

Not really, it is more a thing like, hey cool items seldom come into play anyway so why bother to worry about it to much?

Besides, I felt that being an Ogrynn was special and cool all by itself. I also had no reason to consider my gear as something less special.

How can you say that's not really what you're saying when you pretty much say exactly that in the exact same sentence? I don't see how anyone can think it's okay for a career to have almost no variety in their equipment and try to justify it by saying they're cool as is.

I think I'm done talking about this. It's making my head hurt.

Sorry about making your heasd hurt.

But I stand by my idea, in OW, you are not going to end up with all sorts of supergear. And if you do, it is an easy matter to hand the Ogryn an Ogrynnproof Lascannon. It whacks and blows up enemy tanks. I don't see much of a problem there.

Supergear? This is the Imperial Guard, if you want to roll with overpowered toys play Ascension or Rogue Trader. Supergear is not the feeling of the IG, it never was and it never will be.

Hm, that's odd. I don't remember ever saying supergear. *ctrl+f "supergear"* Nope, sure didn't. Wasn't aware "cool wargear" translated into "ascension-level supergear".

I'm not at my books right now so I can't give that question justice (and won't be able to until tomorrow night). But basically everything. Like I can't imagine a ten feet tall Ogryn being covered by a cameleoline cloak. Stuff like that. On top of the fact that the get like 6 weapons total.

If a simple houserule can fix something, that doesn't mean it's not broken.

I've managed to fix the text character sheet, so here it is. It should include everything needed for an OW character and it's formatted to work on Rpol. If you try to post it and it breaks just highlight the whole thing and give it the pre tag that's down among the formatting button.
