Re: The Wolf's Head Tavern

Yana nods her thanks to the scaly wizard and has another bite of the delicious "coconut cake".      The leather-clad lass grins at Aramendel and squeezes the ranger's strong hand.
She turns to the barmaid to ask for another cold milk when she sees another newcomer.
He seems dressed somewhat like the young man that had just left the bar, or perhaps a bit like Vanessa or Soteria,  or maybe even Boone, just a little.
His face, though....
The young man looked human, but his eyes were a bit odd.  Even more almond shaped even for an elf.
She delved into her sugar-addled brain for what he reminded her of.

With a start, she remembered.  He resembled drawings she'd seen in libraries of the humans from the far continents, the ones said to be on the other side of the World.  She remembered an Empire names Rokugan and...... she wasn't sure, but there might have been some family clans named after animals, like the Crab and the Horse.
It had been fascinating stuff, really, but it had been years since she'd run across the reference.

He obviously wasn't from her world, though, and was perhaps from Boone's world, Earth, or one of the other worlds that, for some reason, were also named Earth, that Vanessa or Soteria were from.

The young man looked apprehensive and nervous.   Yana smiled.  She remembered THAT feeling.

She waved a friendly "hello" to the young man at the door of the Tavern.

Re: The Wolf's Head Tavern

I turn my head birdishly to the woman that waved at me. I gathered the courage to strike up a conversation. I walked up to her table, she seemed to be eating cake with her friends. "...um...Hello...may I sit?" I gesture to an empty chair.

Re: The Wolf's Head Tavern

The dark-haired woman at the table is wearing what can only be described at leather armor.  She has a small sword at her side and there's a crossbow leaning against her chair.   Her manner of dress looks somewhat medieval, though more mannish than the "ladies" of the Middle Ages.   She looks very young, though she has the tanned look of someone who spends much time outdoors.

She had a nice smile, though, and is sitting with an odd bunch of people, only a few seem to be human.

Please do.  My name is Yana Whitlock.  Welcome to the Tavern.
She holds out a hand, slender and dainty, but surprising strong, with the calluses of someone who works with their hands.

I take her hand and give it a firm shake. I unsling my packs and store them under the chair, then I loop my ankle in the starps and sit down with my EBR across my lap. "Thank you. Name's Jesse(something crashes and masks my last name)...This is one of those in-between realities places isn't it?" I say looking around one last time before forcusing on Yana.

Yana's eyes narrow as she missed the man's last name, but her smile returns.
Yes, Jesse.  It's called the Wolf's Head Tavern, and it's a meeting place of....well, lots and lots of different worlds.

She giggles a little.
Sorry, I don't mean to make myself sound like an expert or anything.  To be honest, this is only my second time here, so I'm still learning 'the ropes' as the saying goes.
Where are you from?  I'm guessing....."Earth"?

Re: The Wolf's Head Tavern

Yana laughs in a friendly way.

I should have you give yours first, since I was here first, but alright, Jesse.  Here it is:

I was born on a world of magic where, unlike your world, I assume, there are more kinds of people besides humans.  We're about the most numerous, but that's about it.

This is been a secret I've kept on my world, but since you'll probably never go there, I'll share it.  I was raised in a Thieves' Guild, learning their craft from my father, a Guild Lieutenant.  When another ambitious lieutenant killed the Guildmaster and took over, I had to flee for my life, with my father sacrificing himself to save me.

She took a deep breath, the memory was obviously years old, but still painful.  She sighed and shook it off, looking back at Jesse.

I began selling my skills as a mercenary, specializing in opening locks and scouting, and became good at it.  I'm hoping to learn more, including some magic from a wizard....of sorts...that I recently met.

She grinned sheepishly, as if she hadn't meant to talk so long.

How's that, sir?

"You've at a more intresting begining then I've had for sure, Ma'am."

I say with a grin.

"I am but a humble student, who has lead a normal-enough-life, I am someone who had planned on finishing his eight years of higher education before joining his country's Marine Corps; But alas such things could not come to pass as the dead rose to feast upon the living. I was trapped in the "Patient Zero" city, I was merely visting for a sporting event you see. There was much fear, blood, sacrifice, and survival. In the end I survived and circumstances forced me in-between realities. Where I have been surviving since."

I doff my cap.

"How 's that, madam?"

Yana's eyes rose sharply.

Alright, I'm impressed!   Vecna's Eye Boogers!  Several of the "Earth" people here have made that world seem to be reasonably mundane, if very powerful in the sciences, but....you've had problems with the Undead?

She shudders.

I've ALWAYS hated fighting such creatures.  It must have been even harder to your people to slay them, since there's not much magic, I'm guessing?

"Actually outside of the three facts, four if you count thier immunity to shock and awe; A: There are numerous and "breed" very quickly. B: They expand their numbers via fluid transfer. One bite and you'll become one of them. C: That they may only be killed by damage to the brain. After that they are easy enough to kill and deal with in small numbers, mindless fu-Freaks. My government had it contianed to a single city and a 200 mile perimeter . I've heared stories that other countries were having some problems because of the group at fault, but my troubles mainly stemmed from being stuck in a city of millions...dead and dying millions...and my inability to leave." I air quote at the word breed.

"I learned even the undead need the brains and spines..." I trail off as I remember something, my stance tightens for a moment.

"Depends on your standards, I don't know the exact population of that city, it was pretty big. The city I grew up near was called Los Angeles or City of Angels, it is the second largest of my country, it has a population of around four million in the city proper and thirteen million in the surrounding area. I don't know, you might consider that a village or something; but historical in my world given your dress, weaponry, terminology it probably more people then your entire world. Of course the sheer fact you probably have wizards and such screws the calculations." I give a sad smile as I pull the slide of my EBR and catch a 7.62X51MM round in my hand. I play with it, rolling it around with my fingers.

As the newcomer spoke of undead swarms, Aramen's hand grasped onto his blade once more. His specialty, his bane, were those that refused to fall when they left the mortal coil. He had trained for decades on how to eliminate skeletons, zombies and other blights of life and death. Just the mention of one stirs him for a fight.

But he was caught off guard. These sounded different. He had faced such creatures that could fight, even with a severed head. They were animated by pure negative energy, not bites. He leaned in and listened close as the man spoke.

I don't know the population of my world, but I've certainly never heard the word "millions" used to  describe....well, ANYTHING.

She looks at the bullet, clearly fascinated.

I cock an eyebrow. "So you do not have anything that is of a thousand thousand? Then allow me to expand your world-view, I am an American, my country's population is higher then 300,000,000. I am Ethnic Han Chinese, and in the country of China there is around 1.2 Billion people. I am from the planet Earth, the world population is 6.5 Billion." I smile as I tap the round into the table, I look at Yana and see she is staring at it. "Here, this is a 7.62 by 51 millimeter or .308 cartridge. It can be propel a 146.6 grain-slash-9.5 gram to 180 grain-slash-12 gram bullet 850 meters per second or 2,800 feet per second, and it is able to strike targets up to and over a kilometer or 1000 yards away. It is primarily used for hunting medium to large game and as a military cartridge." I hand the 3inch long projectile to her. I also catch the man sitting across from me stiffening at the mention of zombies, he was grasping his sword tightly and was trying very hard to listen intently to my words. "Interested in zombies are you? Sorry, I did not catch your name." I say to him, I hold out my hand over the table. I notice his eyes and ears at that point and my eyes widen in surprise. Then I saw the little dragon thing.

Alright, THIS is why I don't come here very often!

She laughs a bit, obviously laughing at her own ignorance, more than anything else.

Um....I have this crossbow......  um...it fires pieces of wood.

She's having trouble talking through her giggles.

The elf returns the handshake firmly.

"Aramendel Elkiir, at your service. You could say I am interested in them. They are quite different from any zombie I have faced it sounds. You say they can turn others into their kind? That sounds quite different from any undead I have facced. Closer to a vampire, than a zombie."

"Um...I think it was more on the line of STDs or plagues." I say as I try to think of a way to explain the virus. "There was something in the blood, it gets in you, you turn into one of them. It'll also changed the infected, changed them in monsterous ways. Maybe it would be better if you tell me of your undead. I'll then probaby be able to explain better."

Still standing eye to chin to most of these people, Parker listened to the exchange about the zombies.  Good at heart but not above a little black magic here and there, he wonders what kind of effect necromancy would have on these undead.  "Do these zombies just turn humans into their kind or does it affect animals as well?"
