Re: OOC

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that the English language is as pure as a crib-house whore. It not only borrows words from other languages; it has on occasion chased other languages down dark alley-ways, clubbed them unconscious and rifled their pockets for new vocabulary.

I disagree. English has a bound word order. While Hungarian for example has an unbound.

the idea of ebonics was created by a racist who was basically saying black children were too genetically inferior to learn "real" english.

Indeed, latin, german, french, greek, only to name a few of the major roots.

Greek, too ? Never heard of the greeks invading GB, must have skipped that part of history lesson... chuckle... would have expected Scandinavian instead... marauding vikings and all that ;-)

In reply to Leo Kastleman (msg #29):

Early latin incorperated a lot of greek, not to mention it was almost a second language of the empire, particulary among scholars. So it's no surprise.

Re: OOC

True. 'He has no greek' was an insult in the roman upper circles.

But the english language was most influenced by the legionares - which spoke only Latin.

But their Centurions and Primus did speak greek, if only a smattering here and there. Which over any period of time is more then enough to infiltrate an evolving language.

Grins.

Yes, only if.

Of course the other routes will have a nice comfy house at the end where we can get that info without hassle.

Really.

Artistic license, Nagash. Your original poem as sang by Gawin was wonderful.
