Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

I must admit it's an experimental adventure, so I want your ideas here about it. What you like, what you don't, what and how should I change, what would you like to see in it (ideas about forecoming acts) etc... Everything that pops into your mind. Don't afraid to criticize me!

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

I would love the pace of the story tabletop, but for RPol it is a bit slow: I'm a late comer, so it doesn't really apply to me, but after 1.5 months nothing really has happened.

The setting/atmosphere is good, NPCs are fun too.

Personally I think you're doing a fantastic job, especially considered how many of us (me included) are quite happy to sit around and drink till we're blue in the face.

Wouldn't mind to see a few more loose ends, just to annoy those early birds.

Other than that, I think you're doing a brilliant job under the pressures of GMing.
Bonus points for the garlic barkeep.

I am a bit curious to see how character advancement is going to be handled, but I guess it can be hard to justify XP rewards when the group pretty much travels from bar to bar, buy some supplies, ask a few questions, and then go to sleep.

Everyone already has XPs, and after each ACTs I'll hand them over. You can learn advancements by yourselves, career changing will be bit more difficult (probably you'll need teachers for that), but we'll discuss that when the time will come.

Ivan, Ivan...

Well, it at least suggests that I should write a bit about her background, family, and such. GM, perhaps there could be a threat were you post character backgrounds? We would write them, of course, and PM them, so you can vet.

I know that other character of course would have no idea, but I think all players here can keep that knowledge out of IC interaction, and it is fun to read other characters history: for example I would really like to know what makes Ivan so morose.

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

I would like it.

Ideas about the game:

1) moral ambiguity. For example:
- meeting a vampire lordling who is willing to support to party without that ever being back-traced to him of course.
- choosing between strictures and rescuing innocents
- the only way to beat the bad guy is taking up that demon blade

Not that things like that happen every encounter, but warhammer is a dark world, and sometimes there is no good choice, only bad and worse. Some (difficult) way of setting things right afterwards would be nice to, but not mandatory :-)

2) neutral powerful NPCs.

Often powerful NPC are either there to help the PCs (rare) or oppose (common). It would be nice to have some who are neutral to start with and who can be made to help or hate the party depending on their actions.

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

 Hmm, ideas?.

With the foundation of the warhammer world, its always about holding back the forces of Chaos in its many forms.
I guess my vote would be to see us (the good guys) finding various differant forms of chaos, in that it can be the common (monsters, tainted etc) to the hidden or those who dont know they are slowly being tainted, to the plain out mad men who hold power over areas.

But to my char travel has to be part of his makeup to adventure.

Using a pie chart it would be combat/50%,puzzles 20%,new places adventure 30%

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

I know that I have not played yet so maybe I should remain quiet for now, but as always I open my mouth nevertheless. We seem to have quite many players, so maybe some grouping would be appropriate, I just can't believe 7-8 character scenes going forward smoothly. I hope you all prove me wrong =).

I just hope that this game leaves room for character development. And I don't mean xp (though that is nice also *yum yum*), but the character. It is not meant that chars are "ready" when just made IMO, so scenes that help us, or at least me, to do some nice RP to develop our characters would be appreciated. I play with some kind of barbarian form the north (to exaggerate a bit) so he could easily just become the silent guy killing things. And I don't want that.

The last thing so far is the size of single threads. Some 200+ replies can be hard to look through if one is looking for a specific comment or something. I don't know if anything can be done to change it, but shorter scenes or starting a new thread more often could help a bit. Again, if this bothers no-one else, feel free to ignore my babblings.

Till now things ran smoothly for a group as fractured as we are. Applause to our GM, who keeps people busy with little things whilst still progressing smoothly with the main plot.

Character development wise, well, I am happy, Linolil is going in a quite a different direction than I expected, and that is usually a good sign.

For long thread I've got a simple solution. I copy all the bit which I think will be important in my Scratchpad. Sometimes I have to look something up, but most of the time it's there.

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

When following the actual game and OOC thread I remembered one more thing I'd like to see in this game: Fighting encounters that do not end with one side being totally dead. I haven't read the former threads so I don't know how it is, but in most games I've been in fights always mean "kill everybody and loot their bodies".

Of course this doesn't always make sense. Those skeletons we are facing now don't understand anything so it is understandable that they don't stop. But more intelligent opponents usually appreciate their miserable lives too much to waste them =D. And this is my wish for the players also. I have seen maaaaaany games where FPs are lost in meaningless battles against enemies that the players should not be able to beat anyway. And again sometimes there are situations that just cry for a "last stand".

*End of this mindless rambling*

Your right Thorolf, but WH mechanics and raison-d'etre (wargames aren't fun if everybody runs away, retreating is not faster than charging, and to many opponents 'kill-all') usually preclude this option.

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

I thought it would be time to give some comments. First, congrats 5000 posts is getting near. Secondly, I have to say that this game is great. There is enough action and every combat forces us to think about tactics. Definitely a good thing. Then there are the other parts that are perfect for more social RP.

Sometimes it is hard to keep up with the pace as some players post more than others. I don't think that is a flaw to those players, but it does sometimes make me think I don't participate enough. And I want to thank all the other, very talented players. It is a pure pleasure to read their clever decisions and RP. It makes me think myself as a total n00b sometimes though =D. It is good that my character can be considered socially handicapped, so that when I can't come up with a clever solution (or somebody does it before me) I can be the "me-no-understand" barbarian =D.

Just now it is hard to come up with things that should be improved... Oh and by the way, I loved the dreams! There is no reason to over do it, but this far it has been one of my favorites!

I've been thinking about how to play out these inter battle interludes. A lot of time is spent talking (and healing, good!) but for me it is sometimes unclear how much can be done/has been done by characters.

Could I ask for a kind of 10(?) minutes 'rounds' in these circumstances, were everybody tells what main things they are trying to achieve?

True, it is a bit mechanical, any other solution to this problem would be fine by me too.

That I'm so glad of... I really am. In this fight I found for the first time the actual need for things like defensive stance. It is almost always a total waste of time if the objective is to kill all the enemies. Only other thing I have used it for was when being the tank of the group, but that is not so RPish.

Once more, thanks for making that true.

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

There are so many players that the game progress is sometimes a bit slow, but I do not mind. It is easier to play when in hurry or motivation is low, if the pace is relaxed... I remember the times when a couple of hours absence meant I had to read multipel pages of stuff.

Game is good, hoping to evolve in relations with other characters. Especially ties to Manfred, Tyre and Wanda seem to be very light.

Honestly I'd like to get out of sylvania and do more travel. See new, more exciting parts of the Old World and barely survive them. Maybe due some urban adventure in a large city.

And less unkillable bad guys with convenient magical character shields.

Yes
The death sits on it in vain,
It's driven by a new life's wait.
Embraced by the mass of souls,

Massacres just aids, wheels rolls.

But we don't have a newborn at hand, plus getting even close with a baby feels utterly wrong.

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

Reading other people's suggestions for where they would like the story to progress, and I know I'm new so this is very wishful thinking and presumptuous.

Id like the group to move through the legendary Black Fire Pass.
-A pilgrimage for Klaus at the Temple of Sigmar.
-Bugman's Brewery for everyone else!
Once out of the pass, Id hope we could travel south to the dwarf fortress of Barak Varr.
-Merchants trading from all over the world
-Dwarf smiths
-Dwarf hospitality!!!
-Enormous city to explore
-Made out of a cave system, e.g. possibility of goblin/skaven incursion
-Travel further south and there are the tombs of Khemri to loot
-Dragon Isles and the feral, savage lizardmen not to far from Khemri
-Travel to anywhere in the world from the port
-DWARF HOSPITALITY!!
-The chance of meeting a real-life King, Byrrnoth Grundadrakk

That's my 2c anyway: Barak Varr.

Re: Ideas, Notes, Remarks about the adventure itself

To me it's not so important where we go so much as what we're doing. I'd like to see some 'normal' combats where we:

1: Face living, sentient opponents, capable of emotions. So far almost everything we kill is so monstrous or evil that the moral ambiguity is practically non-existent.

2: Face smaller groups of enemies, rather than great hordes, every once awhile. So the battles actually can be won by just killing everything.

In reply to Leo Kastleman (msg #104):

While they are certainly more popular in Talabecland, Taal & Rhya are worshipped throughout the entire Empire (it's actually rather unusual for anyone outside of the clergy to 'pick' a god they worship above all others), people living in the city just don't need them as much as those living in rural areas.

First of all, I love the adventure.

But sometimes it feels like I can read the script
"Then so-and-so happens"

It doesn't seem to matter what the character does in some cases.

It might very well be my perception of reality, but still the adage "Don't say no, determine difficulty" comes to mind.
