Re: The Displace Beast

"Guidance from the Academy could be a good solution," Morgan agreed.  "However, unless one of the rest of you has the means, I have no way of contacting them from here.   It would be a matter of trusting him," she then regarded the would be healer himself, so as not to be speaking of him as if he were not present, "of trusting you, to give us your word and follow through on it."   It was possible that he might.  Yet, how could they be sure?   And if he succumbed to his fixation again, then the medical meddling would begin anew.

As for Togo's suggestion...Morgan had heard that learned druids could invoke the powers of nature to reincarnate the deceased. She hadn't guessed Togo himself was capable of it.  His manner was rather offhand much of the time; it was some bemusing to think of him capable of such a thing.  But then he had already proven surprising in more than one way.

"I suppose it is another thought," she said to that.  If she understood right, Togo would not have influence on what the new form would be.    If the healer renewed as something other than human, there would be a certain irony in it.  Not a humorous one.  He was a good man who had made unwise decisions.  And what mortal had never done so?  He certainly did not deserve suffering, or distress.

"Mystal, Flitter," she inquired of their Fae companions.   "Would you, or the local Fae, have reliable means to get a communication to the Academy, in reasonable time?"

Meanwhile, perhaps dear Mia would learn something from her goddess. That it was Venus herself being inquired of was a thought both profound and humbling.

Togo rolls his eyes. "True to pixie form" he mutters. "I can send an animal to fly there but it's still going to take days maybe a week or so to travel there and back. Heck, I could fly there myself but it probably wouldn't be much quicker if any."

Re: The Displace Beast

"I think the healer needs a choice we all would want one. If all else fails reincarnation is better then letting him die if it comes to it. Thank you for being patient with us healer. Do you remember you name yet or are you still comfortable with being called the healer?"

Listening to Morgan she nods slightly. "It's my hope that the healer himself still has a magical way to get in touch with the academy. While he hasn't bothered for many years he is still a wizard powerful enough to establish a portal like this one. His magic or a magical item he has in his home might be able to contact the Academy very quickly. If that's true then there might be hope of a very quick response from them."

She pauses glancing at Mystal and flitter a slight smile coming to her lips. She thought of them fondly and liked the idea that they might be able to help. "It's a good idea Morgan. Fey posses a lot of magic and just maybe there is one in the area that could help."

Mystal's response confused her for a moment then her expression is a gentle amused one laughing for a moment. "Give them a chance Togo they might surprise you. Flitter and her pixie friends made quite a difference working in concert with the Korrigons and the Treant's when we fought that Hun general and his small army. I still have the flaming spear to prove it. Though I think finding the right fey is a long shot. Sending a bird might be the best option if no other presents itself. What about that Magical book Morgan has? Again it's a big if however what if it has some useful information in it? Since we have time perhaps investigating it a little will help."

Speaking to the healer. "Am I correct in guessing that this light being couldn't come through until you opened the larger portal? Or do we have to worry about it popping out of this one? Don't forget if you have a magical way of contacting the Academy that is important." She of course gives time for responses before going back to praying.

"If I have a choice, I would prefer not to die," the Healer says.  "I do not trust this reincarnation.  The powers beyond this world might decide I am overdue.  My word that I will not try to open the greater portal again... that is all I can give you.  But I have always tried to help."

* * * * *

"I don't know of any way of getting to the Academy quickly," Flitter says.  "Or of being an Academy.  It is a long, long way off.  We were there once!  But it took so long to get back!  But.. you do have the lantern?  You can talk!  She might know!"

Oote gives Flitter a confused "what are you talking about?" look.

"Nor do I have a way," the Healer says.  "At least... not in a long time.  There were a few sprites that lived near here, they were messengers for me.  But I have not seen them in years.  Those I knew here as friends... they are all gone, now. Few come this way."

"Just our luck, then," Florenza says.  "The nearest camp of Fauns, it is two days away.  Up the river."

"Gee, that's surprising" Togo remarks sarcastically. "Reincarnation works just fine. It just might not work like you may want it to. And frankly, anything magical you are completely reliant on for survival is probably not a good thing" he adds his frank practical view on the matter.

"Regarding the pixies. This Oote fellow could certainly use some more pixie immersion. That's for sure. Currently he makes a cranky hobbit look happy."

Re: The Displace Beast

The healer is certain.  "I would prefer to stay here.  I do not wish to be a squirrel."

Oote agrees.  "I would rather not be a Squirrel either."

"Squirrels aren’t bad," Flitter says.

"They are silly," Ootes replies.

" Mia can dance with them!"

Ignoring the arguing Fey, the healer explains, "If I change, I might no longer be able to heal.  I must do that.   I must heal.  It is what I am.  How much more can I lose and still be me?"

"Why would anyone want to dance with a rodent?" Oote asks.

Flitter is getting annoyed.  "If you did ONE THING for fun..."

"I don't want to."

"Like flying.  Soaring through the sky with the bees and hummingbirds!"

"Not for me."

"It's for Every Pixie!"  Flitter has a sudden change of expression.  She knows what she has to do.  She lunges at Oote, and shouts, "Mystal, get his feet!"

Meanwhile, Morgan has a chance to glance further into the book.

Re: The Displace Beast

"Oh that's a excellent idea Flitter. So who has this magical Lantern? I am guessing it's morgan correct?." Seeing Oote's confused look towards flitter she explains. "The lantern's are magical. Who ever has one can talk to the person that has the one on the other end. Which is the only reason I think flitter would bring it up."

She gently rests one hand on the healers arm in a supportive gesture. "It will be all right. I am sure we will find a way. It's unfortunate that your fey friends left. However once the news spreads that the light being is gone and that it's safe here again I am sure they will return."

Listening to Togo she nods speaking softly. "I agree. I think the best chance Oote might have of being a pixie again is to return to a pixie community. In time I hope that his natural state of being will return on it's own. Hopefully you will agree to at least try Oote."

Laughing and smiling at flitters answer to squirrels Mia felt a bit happier. "Yes that's true. Dancing is fun and I certainly am happy to dance with pixie, halfling, korrigan and squirrel if they want." She gives the healer a sympathetic look knowing that if she couldn't dance she would feel a huge loss. Then turns her attention back to flitter as her argument intensifies. "Flitter it's all right Oote just needs time."

Then she gasps when flitter grabs Oote and asks for Mystal to grab his feet. "Don't mind me flitter I guess this is a fey matter." She wasn't sure what flitter has in mind. However she was confident flitter wouldn't hurt him. Who knows maybe whatever she has in mind might actually work.

Togo does a poor job at hiding a smile at the humorous pixie situation. You just couldn't make this up. He had said his piece and was just taking the situation in stride. He really didn't trust the healer not to revert to his old ways but he didn't want to kill him outright either. Perhaps somebody in the academy could provide some sort of guidance and therapy. Maybe.

Re: The Displace Beast

I see the lantern listed on Morgan's sheet -- but know nothing about it.  Something else she got while with another player.  It say it can talk to it's "twin."  Where is it's twin?  Does the academy have one?    Obviously, she will use it, if can communicate there, to someone else who can...

"Hmm.  Well, according to this book, the lighthouse was sundered from its moorings, and transported here.  Magically, I am sure.   Sir - " she posed to the healer, gently. Not wishing to upset him with any inferences of death. They all wanted to help him.  "Were you already in residence here, when it was moved?  Or did you come afterward? Either way, can you tell us anything of this?"

Might it be possible to take the lighthouse to the Academy?  Somewhere nearby?  Where the master-wizards could attend it with the care it needed?   Of course, doing so unannounced -- bad idea. She could just imagine showing up on their step --  Oh, hello! I've come back! And, eh, I've brought an unstable gateway along.  It's right outside here...

Mia distracted by Flitter and Mystal's activities at least briefly turns her attention to it. After all this wasn't exactly something you would see every day. Maybe only once in a lifetime! Of course the same could be said about the healers portal and other recent events. She certainly would have stories to tell some day in the future.

"Oh that's a very interesting fact Morgan. Knowing where the tower was originally might help with figuring out how and when it was moved. That would have required very powerful magic to accomplish wouldn't it. Even if he wasn't there he might be aware of what your talking about."

Re: The Displace Beast

“Indeed, let us cavort!”  Flitter says, deciding that Mystal comes up with very good words, now and then.  Her little wings beat, and she pulls at him.

“What?”  Oote asks as he rises into the air.

“This is for your own good,” Flitter explains.  “It is fun.  Besides, cavorting in the air with two Pixie maidens…”  Flitter interrupts herself, looking over at Mystal.  Flitter is fairly sure Mystal is some kind of Pixie.  An unusual one, but still a Pixie.

“There are Pixie lads who would be thrilled to have this chance,” she concludes.

I am not thrilled…. More like... Woooo.. must we go so fast?”

Come one,” Flitter says, as they go higher.  “Sing a Pixie song!  In Pixie Land where I was born in, early on a frosty mornin… wait a minute.  Oote.. that’s really not a Pixie name.  What’s your real name?  Your Pixie name?”

*  *  *  *  *

Morgan’s Lantern is a two way communications device.  She hasn’t used it often.  The other Lantern with which it communicates is not as the Academy.  It is with Aelasuria.  But then, the Academy never had a 100% monopoly on arcane knowledge.  Elves know quite a bit, too.

Morgan considers the possibility that what the book says is accurate- that some great force physically displaced the lighthouse.  Magical or physical…the book does not say, although a being strong enough to carry the lighthouse around would have to be a legendary giant, or something like that.

The lighthouse has clearly been here a long time.  It has all but merged with the tree it is leaning against, and that must have taken decades.  On the other hand, the light house could not predate the existence of lighthouses and the architecture… for a moment, she thinks “Imperial Roman” but no, it is older than that.  The features put it in the style of the Roman Republic.   So it must be more than five centuries old, but how long has it been here?

The Healer does not know.  He barely recalls finding this place, a long time ago.  And, he seems to have lost track of time.  But asking him what he recalls of politics before he wandered off into the woods reveals that he recalls the Emperor being Diocletian.  Morgan knows some Imperial History.. and this means the Healer has been here for about two centuries.

“Has it been that long?” the Healer asks in an innocent voice.  “It hasn’t felt so long.”

She tries not to laugh at Oote's reaction blushing slightly with a smile. Pixies and other fey were part of nature after all! "Just relax Oote surely you haven't forgotten what you were like before you met the healer. I am curious as well what is your pixie name?"

She was slightly starteled when she finds out how old the healer is most likely from information shared about how long ago Diocletian was in power. "The energy from the light portal really did make you immortal! That is why your dependent on the mystical energy it's sustaining you. Morgan please feel free to use the Lantern if you like. It can't hurt to see what sort of help we might get."

Re: The Displace Beast

This seemed like one of those moments where the fey would not be denied. It's hard to explain in words and it's more like one of those..'You had to be there' things but this seemed like one of those times. Perhaps it was the natural magic of the fey, maybe the tower or portal itself, connection to a fellow fey creature in need..who knew for sure but it was a magical moment in the making. So, he stood back, tried to relax and just take it all in.

The Pixie finds herself as much hanging on as flying.

"And then... And then... how does it go?"

"And then I wish I was a Pixie, Hooray, Hooray," Oote suggests.

"Aha!" Flitter says triumphantly.

Meanwhile...

The Healer didn't know he was immortal... he'd lost all track of time.  He's a little shocked to learn how much time has actually passed.  For one, it means he cannot expect to see anyone he knew, again.  He didn't know any Elves.  He wants to know... has the party come to a decision?  Will they allow him to keep the lesser portal?  He wishes to stay here, and promises to behave as well as he can.  Leaving is impossible, without dying, and he does not trust Reincarnation.

Florenza the Faun would like to see her tribe again.  They are probably missing her.

"Well from what I can tell the light being had you open the larger portal because the smaller one wasn't sufficient for it's needs. Maybe it's to small to come across using this one. What that means is though that you can't listen to it if it tries to get you to open a bigger portal. Last time you didn't know any better now you do. I am willing to trust you healer though I hope you understand we will have to tell others about this place. They likely will send someone to check on things and make sure you haven't opened a larger portal again."

She looks at the others continuing softly. "I am pretty sure that he won't open another portal. If that happens someone maybe us, maybe not will make sure it gets closed. We should move on unless there is something else we plan on doing here."

Florenza the Faun has a suggestion.

"My tribe is the closest... well, anything.. there is to this place.  We could ask them.  They might see it in their best interests to check the Healer, from time to time, to make sure all is right."

** ** ** ** ** **

Oote looks down and sees floor spinning around, and then ceiling.

"Is this joy?"  he asks.

"It could be dizziness," Flitter says.  "Sometimes they overlap, and you get both at once.  Joyziness.  That's the best thing."

"It's very spinny,"  Oote says.  "Please don't drop me!"

"If you could fly you need not worry," Flitter says.

"But flying is..."

"We're flying now.  Flying is this."

"It's been so long.. I may need more lessons.  But.. yes... fun...  I will definitely want more lessons."

"Well, then you'll have to come with us," Flitter says.

"Where are we going?"

"I'm not sure.  But the others need to find someone to watch over the Healer."

"Why can't they ask some of the Fey folk who live near?"  Oote asks.  "There are quire a few.  But some of them are... silly."

Flitter pauses in mid flight, almost losing her grip on Oote.

"Nearby?"

"Oh, yes.  Korrigans, and my tribe."  His voice lowers, as if he's deeply ashamed.  "Pixies."
