Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

The High Elves had been monitoring the situation in the Ardennes as best they could, ever since Anakri left with her expedition force.  Not only was their a military campaign to keep track of, but a daughter of a noble house of Geneva was planning to marry her Human (well, ¾ Human) fiance there in Lucimburic, in the Ardennes.  When it became known that the man was a king, this became quite a priority.
Of course her immediate family wanted to attend the wedding, who wouldn't?  And there were friends and relatives and more relatives... the long life span of the Elves tends to produce huge extended families, and even 3rd  cousins often have their great great grandparents still alive.

But how to get there?  The Alps and the Ardennes were divided by a wide stretch of land held by the Huns.  Anakri's force had taken two months for the journey.

One does not simply walk across Hun territory.

There's always the Elven way, though.  Magic.  The Elves have been there for a long time, and they've accumulated a lot of it.  Including, most of a device capable of casting a rare and potent version of teleport.  To gain access to the rest of it, they had to agree to add an adventure seeking noblewoman from nearby Helvetica to their group.

The magic was done, and the teleport brought the Geneva wedding party to the hills outside of Lucimburic.  Following the same route the troops did the other day, the group of Elves enters the upper town at the Clear Fountain Plaza, near the Ducal Palace.

The festivities are already underway.  The Argentoses have arranged the entertainment, and currently, a pair of jugglers is performing for the crowd.

A Wereshrew is being juggled, along with several clay pots.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

It was the most exciting thing ever, especially for a young woman whose world had been confined to Losanna and Eborodunum. Elves had come and asked for her help! They had the sisters to her own magic hair pin and as she had known it would it whooshed them all from the Alps to Ardennes in a blink. She giggled and clapped at the wonder of it before retrieving her prized possession and sliding it into her auburn locks. She curtsied to the elves, thanking them for this trip before rushing to see all the new to be seen.

She halts at a juggler not because he juggled but because of what he juggled. She stared in wide eyed facination at the man and his seeming ability to tame werefolk. "Isn't it splendid?" She asked no one in particular.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

1)
Byron has figured out by now that she is traveling with some of the upper crust of Geneva society.  The very upper crust- the one who cast the spell to get here is Danazol, King of the High Elves.

As far as anyone knows, he's never left the High Elven Kingdom.  Never set foot outside the Alps.  But here he is... and what's more, without any entourage save for one attendant.  Danazol knew the spell he used had a limited capacity, even though it was much more than an ordinary Teleport spell, but he wanted to leave as much room as possible for Aelasuria's parents, Miriam and Aristhandal, and the family members, and several family friends, they wanted to bring along.

This whole thing had been brought about by their daughter, after all.

But no one seemed to be taking much notice of the Elves as they walked across the plaza.  The people of Lucimburic have seen Elves before.  These were a little different, and dressed strangely, but in Lucimburic, people didn't pay much heed to the unusual.  That was rude.

Their progress across the plaza is slow.  There's so much to see.  There are the jugglers, there are... is that a bear?  Is it.. drunk?  There are Lycanthropes of all kinds.  There is a fountain made of glass, and not a clue as to where all that water comes from.

There is a parapet wall overlooking the Alzette River, shops, a tavern, and, yes that large building with the big towers must be the palace they heard of from Ali'cor.

“This way,” Danazol directs, deciding that as king, he ought to be the one leading.  “We should find the Duke, the Werebear, and introduce ourselves.”

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

On the way to the Dukes palace in search of Mergyon and his specialized knowledge of tailors she couldn't help but stop in her tracks. If there is one thing she knows it's her people from Geneva. That and of course the unmistakable faces of family and friends.

King Danazol might be, however right now she has eyes only for her mother and father. Running up to her with a expression of Joy she hugs her mother kissing her on the cheek. "Momma I missed you so much!" There are tears in her eyes as it has been far to long. "Papa it's good to see you!" She hugs him burying her face in his chest for a few moments then goes back to hugging her mother.

"I am sorry it's just been to long Momma." She looks back and forth between them as she speaks softly. "I had been so afraid you wouldn't be able to make it. Thank you! Thank you all of you for coming so far in such dangerous times. I think Salen is already here and if I know Ali'cor he will find a way as well."

Taking a moment she makes a graceful Elven gesture of greeting to the king. "It's good to see you King Danazol. You honor us with your presence." Listening to what is going on she continues softly. "I will be happy to introduce you to Duke Bastow and Lady Babette. I had just been on my way from the tower of higher art with the Were_Owl wizards. Father their magic might be of interest to you. I had been on my way to See Mergyon he knows the finest tailors in Lucimburic. If you didn't make it I knew I would have to have a wedding dress made. The Dwarves offered to donate some fine silks they obtained in return for a little help from me on certain matters."

"Also the dwarves are Besieged by some foul Curse of the Huns. You all need to be aware of that. I wouldn't be surprised if they are in Negotiations with Duke Bastow regarding their problem. I intend to speak on their behalf with the duke. After all they have fought and bled at our sides for us against the Huns too."

She walks with them Towards the palace taking a moment to great more family and friends while they travel together.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

There was so much to see and take in Bryon felt overwhelmed by it all. A drunken bear? Well that was not so uncommon as fey often took varied forms for some joke of funny game. A glass fountain? Now that was intrigueing. She made her way to it, watching it for a few seconds before calling out in Sylvan, {Sylvan}"Hello in there, want to come out an play?"

She was still awaiting a reply from what must obviously be a water sprite when another elf joined "her" enterage. She obviously knew the elves Bryon had arrived with, so it was only fair to introduce herself. {Sylvan}"I'll return after a bit and we can chat some more then."

As she walkes back toward her friends, a rather long and happily plump cinnomen colored ferret emerges from her large purse, first popping out his head then pulling the rest of his somewhat healthy body out of the folds of her garments and armor. He scrambles up her arm and wraps himself around her neck. While everyone else hears only squeeks and chitters, his voice is clear to his mistress. So this is the place, eh? Doesn't really seem so impressive. I'll be the rats here aren't even properly afraid of a he-ferret hunter like myself.

Stopping to groom himself while Bryon continues on he yawns too. His boredom is not shared by his mistress. While his words are unfathomable, save for those who speak ferret, Bryon's are quit clear. {Latin}"Now really, Scrumff. One would think you had no manners at all. I am sure there are enough frightened rats here for you to have your feast in due time."

Finding her way to the Elves she curtsies politely to the new elf. Then she coughs, hoping for an introduction...

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

Unfortunately as much as she wanted to take more time greeting her Parents, family, and friends Kyriel's warning put the need for haste into things. However Aelasuria had not however forgotten her manners and this unusual woman with Kaleidoscope eyes was rather interesting. She recognized a familiar when she saw one. Which meant they had magic in common as well.

Making a graceful elvish gesture of greeting she curtseys slightly as well. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well as Scrumff. I am Aelasuria Soulwater." She is of course on her guard just in case. She of course will introduce anyone that has come with her.

OOC: Don't want to assume but our little discussion back at the tower of high art might lead to quite the procession of players characters. lol

Softly to her father, mother, and of course King Danazol in their native tongue. "Mother, father, King Daazol I apologize. Howvever we must make haste to the palace. I have been warned that the Huns have sent assasins for Theo and I. If they are already here they might harm you and I do not want anyone harmed because of me." She couldn't help but feel protective of her parents. If the Assassins realized Danzol is there king she wouldn't be surprised if they tried for him too.

She looks about for Ovo wishing he was here right now. The strong Honorable dwarf had already thwarted one assassination attempt. Saving Theo's life and possibly her own. "Ovo will no doubt be in rather a hurry To find Theo and I if he hears about this."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

Ovo, Aelasuria believes, is probably to be found in the palace, possibly looking into defenses and security and staying well away from things like wedding planning.  Or maybe he is to be found in the company of other Dwarves.  The Dwarf Troops brought here by Arctos, Dunduin, and Cirostis added their own brand of revelry to the mix in Lucimburic.  After establishing their camp in Lucimburic’s fortress on a overlooking the river, they quickly took the markets, taverns, and the plazas to shop, to drink, and to watch the various forms of entertainment.

Groups of Dwarves can be seen here and there, enjoying themselves.

Meanwhile, Aelasuria is swarmed by friends and relatives, about twenty in total.  The Elven king needs no introduction. Aelasuria has seen him before and knows who he is.

In the Elven tradition, a marriage is seen as between two families, as much as it is between two people.  The two families are expected to put in a lot of work.  By custom, the groom’s family and the bride’s family take care of their respective members.  The wedding couple is not supposed to have any work to do, the families take care of everything.  By custom, all Theoderic and Aelasuria have to do is show up.

So Aelasuria’s family has brought food, music, and of course, dresses.  A number of them.  Four just for Aelasuria- they had to make sure there would be at least one she would like.  So this means she doesn’t exactly have “nothing” to do.  She has to try on dresses while mother and sisters and friends fuss and adjust and sew.  That’s the plan, at least.

The Elven king is surprised she is worried as she is about assassinations.

”You have us, you have Lucimburic, and you have Dwarves and Theoderic’s warriors here,” he says.  “Of course you should be alert, but there is no place in the world right now better protected.  We shall make sure you are never alone while you are here, and everyone is aware of the danger.”

The Werehedgehog carpenters, Dag and Norbert, have built a wooden stage in the plaza, and a Human couple, mature, with silver hair, walk up the steps onto it.  Mergyon, the Duke’s Weremink majordomo, is with them.

They announce they are the hosts for the public entertainment which shall be given here in the plaza.  There will be a evening of music tonight, followed by fireworks in celebration of the Solstice season.  Then, for the next couple of days, a program of entertainment, and finally, the Clear Fountain Plaza will be the location of the public reception of the upcoming wedding of Theoderic and Aelasuria.  Food, drink, music, and more fireworks, for everyone.

Kyriel accompanies Aelasuria to meet her kin and the elven king. She stays back a few steps in her disguise as a young human attendant to Aelasuria. As she listens to him comment on how well protected she is, she sighs; she had hoped that the elves would take the warning seriously; pride is a serious flaw. Even though she knows that protocol demands she stay quiet, she has to speak up. Quietly she whispers "Your majesty, wouldn't it be prudent to heed the warnings? Undoubtedly an assassin would find his payment increased accordingly if the emperor knew that you were here. Many high value targets, milord. All they have to do is hit one to make their point."

After that, she settles back in relative obscurity; almost like she isn't there.

Aelasuria can't help but be distracted  as she is swarmed by friends and family. She is busy exchanging hugs, affectionate words, discussing family and recent events back in Geneva, and much, much more.

She nods reassured by king Danazol as he reassures her of all the people here that would help to ensure no harm came to Theo or herself. "Thank you King Danazol. Let's find Theo he should be introduced to our family." She includes everyone here of course.

Her eyes soften blinking for a moment with a look of happiness. "Of course I promise to pick one out soon. Theo shouldn't see them but I would like to find him. There is Mergyon he usually knows where everyone is."

She briefly waves to Mergyon waiting to give him a chance to finish. Interupting his speech would be rude. Looking over at Kyriel her eyes soften realizing she isn't having a good day. Though when she quickly fades back into obscuirty it's obvious that drawing attention to her wouldn't do her any favors. Softly she whispers to Danazol. "Kyriel is very worried about me and she takes the hun threat very serious. We should make our way to the Dukes palace. I would like to speak briefly to Mergyon though."

As opportunity presents she briefly speaks to Mergyon. "Mergyon have you seen Theo? If you haven't and you see him later tell him I am going to the palace. I need to talk to you later about the best tailors in lucimburic. I need to recommend one to Arctos who is having magical padded silken shirts made. The one I know of is Were-shrew tiny Juplee."

Hopefully he can answer quickly as she doesn't want to hold her family up. As soon as is reasonable she moves on keeping pace with her family. She gives Cirostis a appreciative look. "Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to accompany me Cirostis."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

Bryon smiles as Aelasuria introduces herself to Scrumff. Scrumff is amused and moves very fast for a creature with such short legs. He scampers up a tent pole in front of the Elven bride to be, takes her hand in his tiny paws and kisses it. "I am charmed to meet someone so beautiful and with breeding to appreciate a true gentleman such as myself."

Bryon shakes her head at her "escort's" antics. "Lady Aelasuria may I present Nichodemus Bosthanomus Rasthbale the fourteenth, better known to his friends as Scrumff." She plucks the ferret from his perch and Scrumff promply puts himself round his mistress' neck. They walk and discuss an assassination! How exciting except that it is the bride who is the target. This gives Bryon an idea.

"May I make a suggestion? I can make myself look like another for six hours and make that person unrecognizable for the same period. Perhaps if I pretend to be you and you pretend to be a maidenservant we might flush this assassine into the open. Fear not, I have no designes on your betrothed. I could never be with just one man. I mean think of how disappointed the rest of them would be."

She giggles and winks suggestively at Cirostis. "You could still be close to your family and make all the important decisions. In fact it might make picking a dress easier since you would see it on yourself from the outside you know?"

Bryon grinnes broadly as she realizes her admission to this power makes her the center of attention. Attention is the one thing she craves above all else. It is a rather good counter assassination plan though. Of course Scrumff would need to hide himself but he was small and easy to conceal. "Dont fret over me. I am tougher than I look. So what do you think? About my idea I mean?"

He looks down for a moment to make sure is laces are tied

On their way to the palace he would let Aelessuria  know in a discrete whisper.
That pyramid thing the wizard had me buy - it prevents all summoning and teleportation within 50 feet or so. Things from other planes are very uncomfortable around it. That makes me a good guard for you for now. And I can loan it to you overnight - If your rooms are not already protected.

OOC: I have been relocated to the Gardens at the Dukes Palace. Please post response there thanks!

She was slightly startled by Scrumff' sudden move then couldn't help but laugh and smile when he kisses her hand." "Are you sure your familiar isn't a were-Ferret. I guess Mergyon might have something to say about that." She couldn't quite remember but she thought Mergyon was a Were-Mink. She had seen a Were-Weasel before which was a entirely different thing.

"I see! I think Scrumff is a very sweet ferret although I think Nichodemus is a fine name as well." She found the ability troubling as helpful as it is it's also a potent tool for someone that might wish to get close enough to a target for assassination. She had just met Bryon, however she was in the company of her king and more importantly to her both of her parents and quite a bit of family. She also couldn't help but worry about her despite her promise that she's tougher then she looks. Pausing Aelasuria blushes at her frank admission of her amorous nature and a taste for variety. That and the fact that she clearly liked Cirostis possibly making the brave dwarf come terribly close to a blush!

"I will consider your offer. I should bring it to Theo's attention and Perhaps should hear Kyriel's thoughts on the Idea as well. It's her art not to be noticed and to spot others that don't wish to be noticed. She is likely to understand how your plan might go well or go wrong. Please come with me it shouldn't be long before we are at the palace."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza- The High Elves Arrive

The Argentos’s planned the sequence of entertainment carefully.  During the day, as people wandered to and fro, seeing the sites and looking over the wares in the shops and stalls of the markets, they scheduled the quieter performers.   People would stop for a little while, see the jugglers or the listen to a singer, and move along.  For the evenings, though, they needed more impressive “festival” quality entertainment.

They had little time to review all the possible talent available in Lucimburic.  There were other things they had to do, as well- they hadn’t come to the Duke’s Masters of Ceremonies, although they took to the task easily.

To accelerate the process, they put up a simple sign in the Clear Fountain Plaza, near the stage.  It read:

“Public Entertainment Made Possible By the Generosity of the Duke and Duchess of Lucimburic.  Auditions now being held, performers wanted.  Inquire at the palace, ask for Phileas and Hylensia Argentos and Rory MacIntyre..

There was a lot of amateur talent available.  Even Dwarves.  Several looked at teh sign in the plaza rather excitedly, and scurried over to the palace, to play for the Argentos’s.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Dag and Norbert, supervising some other laborers, have built a stage the north side of the Clear Fountain Plaza, close to the palace.

Phileas Argentos and Rory have adjusted and tweaked what has now become their main act, the Dwarf Metal band Diamond Hammer, with Cirrus added for female vocals and Scolo doing special effects.

It has flash, noise, style, some great singing by Cirrus and some, well, loud playing by the Dwarves.  And now it is just after sunset, and time to give the act the first test.  If all goes well, they will a second show for the wedding.

Scolo's normally "unique" outfit has been enhanced.  Phileas found him a cloak with covers the bunny slippers (can't have that, it just doesn't go with the image Phileas is trying to project.) and the cloak has been decorated with sequins and little magic lights.

Argentos nods to the leader of the Dwarf band, Grompin, who is carrying two of the "thundering stones" the Dwarves use as percussion instruments.

"Why don't you introduce yourselves," Argentos suggests.

The Dwarf climbs up onto the stage.

"Good evening," Gompin says.  "I am Gompin Copperdeep, and my friends and I are a band named Diamond Hammer, and we're going to play some music for you.  I hope you like it."

Some of the people in the plaza begin to drift towards the stage, curious.

"Put some more energy into it," Argentos whispers to the Dwarf.

Gompin Copperdeep clears his throat, holds up his magic rocks, and shouts at the top of his voice:

"HELLO LUCIMBURIC!  ARE YOU READY FOR ROCKS?"

At the side of the stage, Argentos whispers, "Now, Mister Scolo.  Colorful and flashy."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Scolo pulls his hat into a long old-school wizard's pointer, black with silver squirls and stars. His bunnies turn black and leathery with star eyes hidden beneath the new cloak and he begins to dance - ordinarily he is not a good dancer - but he is an awesome spellcaster, and he starts with 'cats grace' and 'histrionics' he becomes briefly the center of attention as the mosaic begins and pounds its way out. He uses 'long door' several times appearing now on stage, now in the crown or the back or even feather falling from the sky.

As a special coup for those who can see the invisible there are dozens of invisible Scolo mirror images dancing around the stage ... This will be something they can talk about later when it is revealed to all. Cast 'invisible mirror images' while dancing.

An illusion sets up behind the band, simple images coming out of a misty air 'Silent image' it shows a giant diamond hammer striking things like stars or a mountain. For those who notice such things a small 4 inch oily looking multicolored sphere remains fixed about 50' above and behind the band. Durring the performance Scolo will hang his more dangerous conjurations, like the flaming sphere or pink tentacles to provide background eye candy behind the illusions.

When the music really pounds great balls to fire explode in the sky 'fryerball' cast with 'Daze' activating at the same time Scolo's histrionics have worn off by then and his dancing is no longer noticed. Until his glitterdust reveals for all the myriad dancing invisible wizards all around them.
It is then, while the images dance that Scolo, the real Scolo settles in for his most intense work using 'Dominate Image' he takes his own minor illusion of the hammer logo and slowly builds it out into a powerful illusion behind the band. Epic scenes of stars, planets, volcanos and crowds of beautiful people merging into close ups of the real crowd a d fantastic imagined histories including sound (mainly just background breathing or heartbeats to complete the emotional effect)

When the time is set he will launch dozens of alchemical fireworks on crossbow bolts using both his prestidigitations and the large powerful illusion to build out the final celebetory effect.

A little more daze in the finale completes the show.

Of course, being a master prestidigitator means that color and shape are infused in all of Scolos spells and even the best casters will have a hard time identifying what he is casting. His illusions will frequently drop materialized objects to trill the crowd.

Edgar stays away.

Not wanting to miss the Entertainment Aelasuria makes her way back tot he Clear fountain plaza and the Main stage. Especially when she finds out Cirrus and Scolo will be involved. If possible before things start she briefly Hugs Cirrus speaking softly to her. "I Truly hope that you enjoy this and have fun Cirrus. I am proud of you! Thank you for being kind enough to share your singing with us. I will be watching from as close as I can get."

With Scolo if possible she gently gives him a hug as well. "Thank you for all your hard Work Scolo. You definitely have worked wonders in the past few days. IF possible I will talk to Theo about finding a way to give you a few well deserved days of rest. If there is anything you need please let me know." She looks over his new outfit with appreciation smiling at him.   "That's is a very eye catching cloak you have Acquired Scolo. Do you plan on keeping it after the festival?" It was a sincere question born of curiosity. With Scolo it was very possible he would do just that if he liked it enough.

Later she watches with interest probably holding hands with Theo if she manages to talk him into attending. Kyriel if present she tries not to draw attention to. Although she will smile meeting her eyes for a moment before turning her attention back to the stage. When things begin her eyes widen watching Scolo's impressive display of magic and entertainment.

Smiling she gasps softly her eyes sparkling with enjoyment as things progress. "OH my they are putting on quite the show." The pink tentacles and image of the Giant Diamond hammer striking Stars or mountains catches her eye. Aelasuria actually claps laughing and smiling at the glitter dust display as well as enjoying the fireworks. It is clear that she is thoroughly enjoying the performance. She of course also appreciates Cirrus's singing when and if she joins the show.

OOC: I assume she is since she's part of the band.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

A lot of people have followed the sounds and lights to the Clear Fountain Plaza, and the crowd grows rapidly.  This is nothing like anything they've seen here before.  And it is a very mixed crowd:  Humans, Lycanthropes, Elves, Dwarves, Centaurs... there go a few Halflings, and likely as not there are a few others here and there.

Theoderic stays close to Aelasuria... especially with all these people around.

Lights illuminate the sky above, throwing an ever shifting pattern of color onto the plaza.

Cirrus is having the time of her life.  When she's not singing with the Dwarf band (she's only there for about a third of the songs,) she's dancing to their music, her hair and dress playing in the gentle wind she seems to call unconsciously.

She sings one more song, and spots Aelasuria and Theoderic in the audience, and jumps of the stage and runs up to them when she is done.

“Did you like it?” Cirrus asks excitedly.  “They're doing some more traditional Dwarf songs now.  They didn't think my voice goes well those.”

The Dwarves may well be right.  Tradtional Dwarven songs tend to be about traditionally Dwarven things, and Cirrus's gentle soprano voice just doesn't seem to carry the feel of mining or hammering at a forge.

Many people start to gather around.  It may surprise Theoderic and Aelasuria, who are used to attracting attention... but this time, the focus of all the attention is Cirrus.

And she seems to like it.

As promised Dunduin ambles in to take in the show surprised at the big crowd but happy it appeared that the dwarven band gig was well attended. Maybe the dwarves did have some things to offer other races besides goods made in the forge. Interesting. At any rate, he took in the show and people. It seemed like they somehow were able to add some special magical effects along with a sultry lead singer that captured everyone's attention. Dunduin chuckled. Amazing how some things just seem to happen. Shrugging he thought such is life and made his way through the crowd looking for familiar faces.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Needless to say she cheers for Scolo and Cirrus showing her support for them Enthusiastically. She cheers for the dwarves as well after all they are working hard to perform for the crowd as well.

Aelasuria smiles warmly at Cirrus gently hugging her close and giving her a kiss on the cheek.  "Of course we love it Cirrus. You have a lovely voice which is truly a gift. I am very happy for you! You could make a living just by singing I think perhaps like a bard."

She notes the crowd enjoying the rare mix of peoples from all over their world. Centars, elves dwarves, lycanthropes, humans, haflings and even rarer races no doubt ran about. It all of these peoples worked together the Huns would surely be defeated.

Happily Aelasuria waves to Scolo happy for him as well. She could only wonder how much he enjoyed performing up there as well. Hopefully he wasn't exhausted and would have time to relax and enjoy himself as well after the show. Noting Bryon's absence Aelasuria could only hope that she has a good time. Perhaps they would see her again soon enough. She certainly was a outgoing person. Knowing her she might go up on stage to hang out with the dwarfs. Course that would only work if they allowed it. Either way sooner or later she  would likely talk with them.

Holding hands with Theo She smiles at him speaking softly. "It was quite the show wasn't it Theo. I think Cirrus has found something she truly enjoys."

Kyriel stays near Theoderic and Aelasuria. Her attention is less focused on the pyrotechnics and the music than on the crowd and any suitable sniping spots around them.

When the performance is over she claps along with everyone else in order to not draw any attention to herself. She smiles and laughs, but her eyes constantly scan the crowd and any place that she could use to attack by surprise. Of course, she's no mage so she's unsure what they could do in such circumstances.

Rory takes over for Cirrus. He knows these songs, and his voice is much better for them anyway. This is actually his forte. Being a showman he adds a chorus of illusory singers behind him, eagle's splendor to enhance his stage presence, and of course ghost sounds to make the thing just a bit spooky. Spooky is his favorite thing, after all.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Bryon loved this, the crowd, the energy, and the excitment were exactly the kind of thing she was drawn to. Of course there were lots of men to choose from. Women were a bit more difficult, most were not interested in other women, but the ones who were she would be able to pick out fairly easily.

She avoided the centaurs, horses were not her thing and half horse half person was a greek thing and not really something she liked. Elven men were too angular, pointed chins, pointed ears, slender none of which were her type. Dwarves now dwarves were what men should be - broad, hairy, and full of stamina. Humans were her second choice, but her first is and always had been dwarves.

She picked out the new dwarf (Dunduin) as he entered the square. He was obviously some kind of officer from his armor and the way the others gave him defference. She hoped that meant he had a commanding presence and was not afraid of her the way the other fellow did. She mingled her way towards him, grabbing a pair of Ale mugs from a passing server. When she reached him she handed him one of the mugs and then wrapped her free arm around his shoulders. "I'm Bryon. Will you tell me your name or should I just make one up for you?"

It is nice to meet you. I am known as commander Dunduin." He gives her a toothy half grin.

Cirostis sees some of the Lads from Artilliary. He chats with them awhile. Eventually he gives them a warning.

Whatcha out lads, that lady over there he indicates Bryon is very curious about Dwarves.
I'd hate for anyone to get injured or not make it back for duties in the morning. Someone would get stuck with extra KP for a week if that happened.

He knows that a warning from a superior officer can be taken as a dare and that such a mild punishment for missing duty tomorrow morning will result in a very high rate of absence along with some extra clean mess areas for several weeks in the future.

Needless to say, Bryon will be approached - some of the other ladies might find opportunity as well.

She giggles as she makes her way back to the larger crowd. As she made her way toward them she found herself suddenly surrounded by a large group of very manly worrior dwarves. Oh this is going to be f-u-n goes through her mind. She laughes aloud as she begins to fill her dance card with very spledid dwarves...

"With regards to what is next for us I'm still working on it" Dunduin admits. "I did speak with the Barron and his general and he did seem to indicate that there would be a need for our dwarven force perhaps in aiding the Lucimburic troops. Both the elves and the Duke Barstow of Lucimburic have pledged their aid to the dwarven cause. That is a good sign and it will most likely be in the form of a party of heroes and perhaps a small force. It will be a battle of winning souls rather than a battle of weapons which is likely to be even more difficult. Obviously I'll keep you posted on any new developments. In the mean time, enjoy the show. It looks like they put together quite the performance."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Rita, hopefully together with Riordeg, manages to make it to the plaza just in time for the entertainment. Scolo's show has her completely mesmerized, to the point that she is completely in the moment, all thoughts of war and assassination threats completely forgotten, at least for a while.

"I had no idea he could do such amazing things," she says to Riordeg. Most of what she has seen of Scolo's work has been just strange. But this is beautiful, wondrous. Riordeg sees her gasp in amazement several times, her brown eyes twinkling with joy.

Cirrus's singing is even more otherworldly than she remembers from Midsummer. Has the girl been practicing, or does it come completely natural to her? Rita wonders, thinking back to her own singing at the Solstice ceremony at which she just officiated. That singing was actually more chanting than singing. It probably sounded better than the chants by some of the completely tone deaf priests back in Arras, but not by much.

She follows Cirrus once the girl heads off the stage, and there are Aelasuria and Theoderic! She had wanted to find them as soon as she got to the fountain, but that was not easy with this crowd, especially for someone as short as Rita.

"You were wonderful," she says, hugging Cirrus after Aelasuria does. "I am so incredibly proud of you. Of course you could be a bard. I said that back at Midsummer, remember? You have made so many people here so happy."

Rita cannot help but laugh when Cirrus says the dwarves felt her voice wasn't right for their songs.

"If these are typical dwarven songs, then they're right. These are not your style at all," she remarks as the dwarves play in the background. "I cannot picture you singing about working in mines!" Her smile makes it clear she does not mean the comment as an insult.

Then she happens to turn her head and sees a beautiful redheaded woman walking away from one of the dwarves into the crowd.

So far, she has met two highly attractive redheads--Aelasuria, and Swift, the were-fox, who transformed from animal form into a naked human girl right in front of Riordeg, unwittingly making Rita feel just a bit insecure.

"Who is she--a friend of yours?" she asks Aelasuria, indicating the beautiful woman. "Why do all the beautiful women have to show up right in front of Riordeg?" she asks  jokingly, still largely in a celebratory mood.

She does have a secret, underlying insecurity. Unlike Aelasuria, she isn't beautiful. Rita always saw herself as rather plain, although that probably was because she didn't pay much attention to fashion until meeting Aelasuria, and even now, she views it largely as a luxury. It is the soul, not the body that is important. That is how she was raised and what she believes as a priestess. But what if Riordeg wants the woman he loves to be physically beautiful, like these women? As much as she knows he loves her, she cannot help but feel insecure in the presence of all these beautiful women.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Bryon danced with several dwarves, enjoying them as she would any man's attentions. After several dances she got a little winded and a bit thirsty. She promises to return, having the be nice to several who of course offer to get these things for her, insisting that she can fend for herself but that she will be back.

She in fact already had some picked out for trists, but she wasn't going to let them know that. Why? Simple, they would stop trying to win her affections and likely so would their friends. Bryon loves attention more than anything.

As she wanders back toward the King and future Queen, she cannot help but notice the Priestess of Pluto and her less interesting companion. Flushed, slightly out of breath but still enjoying every moment of this wonderful evening Bryon curtsies to the priestess and her companion as she approaches. Rising with a smile across her face she takes another tankard from a passing server.

"Never let it be said that a Celt was drunk under the table by a Frank, Roman, or any other." Raising her cup, "To the health and long life of the King and his future Queen." Her dwarven admirers give a hale and hearty reply to the affirmative. She down her cup, seemingly unnaffected at first but her giggles come a bit easier and while not slurred her speach is sure more rapid. She is tipsy and yes very likely to try and get on stage soon.

"Your a priestess of some sort, are you not?" She says to Rita, "Wait don't tell me." She squints and examines. "I do not know all your Roman gods so..." She looks the woman over head to toe, taking her in completely. "Your dressed nicely but uncomfortable in the clothing. Your straight backed, sharp eyed...square shouldered." She snappes her fingers trying to remember the name of the goddess..."Ohhhhhh...humph! I cannot think of her name. The Athenian goddess of Wisdom. Thats yours right?"

She stickes her hand out, "Sorry, I am Bryon of Helvectia." Bryon barely notices Rita's male companion, the priestess if by far the more interesting of the two. Then she is struck by something. "I almost forgot, this fine fellow," She indicates the ferret whose head appears out from her bag, "is Nichodemus Bosthanomus Rasthbale the 14th, called Scrumff by his friends."

Scrumff chitters and climbs out of the bag, and down then up mounting a tent pole as he had with the future Queen. He takes her hand in his paws and kisses it politely. "Yet another Lady of Breeding. Facinating." Bryon takes him down and scolds him, "We're not back home you cannot keep doing that." And she puts him back in her bag. "I'm sorry. He thinks I'm his woman. Its charming some times and others, not so much."

In the plaza, in the swirl of people, Aelasuria's father Aristhandel Soulwater makes an appearance.

He has news for his daughter.

"There have been some odd events, and for reasons of... well, who knows what the Werefolk really think, they have some strange customs.  But what they want to do is conceal the time of the actual wedding.  Sort of a surprise party.  It can't be too much of a time, as you'll have to get ready.  But, your sisters might grab you at any time, so you probably don't want to wander too far.  Theoderic has the same situation, of course, but his mother will do the grabbing, and he probably doesn't need the same time to get ready."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Aelasuria smiles happy to see Cirrus has Rita here to look out after her as well. Being young and rather special she preferred that Cirrus had company to ensure no one Unsavory tried to approach her. Even in a safe place like Lucimburic where it's people followed certain codes it was still full of many visitors. Not all of them had to be good people.

"I think Dwarves make wonderful music too that is unique to their culture. I think their species leans towards the lower range of voice like bass though I don't see why they couldn't be a tenor or a alto."

At first Aelasuria hasn't the faintest idea what Rita is talking about. It shows to as her expression turns to one of slight confusion. "What? Oh you mean Bryon. She arrived with my family although I don't really know her. I just met her today but I can say she has a very earthy nature. She is part fey and grew up around at least one Satyr who is her uncle I believe. She's kind of like a priestess of Venus except as far as I can tell without any restraint or concern for discretion. I don't mean it in a negative way Rita, you will know what I mean once you get a chance to know her."

She laughs and smiles lightly giving Rita a gentle affectionate hug. "Rita you have nothing to worry about. Riordeg loves you. I wonder if swift is here she is likely from Lucimburic. Wasn't she with  my brother Salen whom I hope will make it here in time for the wedding."

OOC: I don't believe Aelasuria knows about that incident does she? If she knows about that she probably would refrain from mentioning swift.

Aelasuria smiles at Bryon speaking softly in reply.  "Thank you Bryon. Athena who is the goddess of wisdom your trying to think of Bryon. This is my friend Rita." She refrains from mentioning whom she is a priestess of as Bryon is trying to guess. Aelasuria laughs and smiles when Scrumff pulls the same trick he did earlier. "Yes Scrumff did the same thing to me when we first met. I think he takes very much after you Bryon."

When her father shows up Aelasuria takes a moment to Hug him in warm greeting. "Hello father it's good to see you. Yes I understand I will try not to wander to far. If I go somewhere I will try to leave word as to where I am going. This is Bryon, Rita, Kyriel one of my servants, and friend. She is going to be a bridesmaid at the wedding."

Briefly she whispers in her fathers ear keeping it private. "Kyriel is actually protecting me although it's a secret. If something happens and she draws a weapon you can trust her." Obviously she didn't want Kyriel being zapped with a lethal spell if her father mistook her for a threat to his daughter.

Bryon seems filled with energy now, hardly able to stand still. Two triumphs, one with her gift and two with her toast. She was sure now that Aelasuria was her friend. Being friends with a Queen was splendid! She listened as Aelasuria and nodded, "Yes, your right! Athena...it would make sense being Athenian."

Looking at Rita again, "I would think someone with intelligent eyes like you would preside over wisdom. You are one of Athena's right?"

She raised a brow at Aelasuria's father. She leans into the future Queen, "If you need some help, I am available." She noddes, smiling, eager to be of assistance. She likes Aelasuria, and not just because she will be a Queen, but because she is a wonderful person.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

“We are in the dark,” Aristhandel Soulwater says to Byron.  “We do not yet know what kind of help we need.  I think… if there truly is a danger, there are two kinds of protections.  A subtle defense like Kyriel’s can stop it, but a more obvious defense may instead deter it.  There was some report of a bounty… I think a bounty hunter is one interested in gain, yes?  And if the gain is simply too dangerous to be worth it, might just give up!  Strange as it may seem, one of the clearest signs of a very effective defense is that nothing at all has happened!”

Being a native of the Alps Elven Kingdom, Aelasuria knows this is a common philosophy there.  There has been no organized attack on the Elven Kingdom in many years, other than a largely accidental skirmish with the Helveticans two decades ago.   The general consensus is, this means they are doing things right.

In the evening, after the performance, the crowd starts to loosen up.

Phileas Argentos gets on stage, announcing that this was only the first performance for Diamond Hammer, and they shall be back for the Royal Wedding… but he gives no indication of when, exactly, that is.

“Meanwhile, “ he says, “the Duke and Duchhess have sponsored an ongoing series of entertainments over the next few days.  Lucimburic extends its best to you, in gratitude to its own citizens, as well as those who have so recently helped defend the Ardennes!”

Aelasuria is right about Cirrus needing a few extra watchers to keep between her and “unsavory” types.  In fact, the girl makes no effort on her own part to dodge attention, she seems to enjoy it immensely.  There is no shortage of young men telling her how great she was, and wanting to get to know her better, and by the end of the evening, Cirrus realizes she has agreed to three lunches over the next two days.

Aelasuria of course is holding hands with Theo while they had been enjoying the entertainment. "Thank you Bryon. I appreciate your offer and perhaps should something happen you will have the opportunity you seek. For example if the bounty hunter shows perhaps a brief distraction or being tripped up by scrumff perhaps will make a difference."

Looking to her father she speaks to him softly. "We need a suitable dress for Kyriel as well. I can lend her one of mine but it would need alterations. Perhaps you and mother could help her with that at the appropriate time"

Noticing that the attention is going to Cirrus's head Aelasuria looks worried as she becomes concerned for her. She speaks softly to Theo to keep it private. "Theo I think Cirrus is getting so much attention that it's overwhelming her. Some of it is bound to be from those with less then a honorable nature. We need to arrange for her to have a few friends that will see to her safety."

"Excuse me father I need to talk with Cirrus privately for a bit. She might need to have a word with mother later." When the opportunity presents she whisks Cirrus away letting her protectors if needed help to give them a little privacy. Then speaks softly with Cirrus keeping it once again private out of respect for Cirrus. "Cirrus this is a exciting and joyous time for you. I can tell you truly enjoy the attention however you shouldn't let it influence your judgement. Not all young men are as nice as they seem and can have less then honorable intentions. Some can outright be dangerous being arrogant enough to feel they can harm others and suffer no punishment."

"For that reason I will assign two friends or guards who's soul duty is your safety while you are in Lucimburic and beyond if needed. I won't stop you from going to lunches however I advise you never to go anywhere alone nor into places where they hold sufficient power that no one will help you. I only say this because I care about you. If you question my judgement ask Kyriel, my mother, Theo a priestess of Venus if you wish. I just want you to be happy and safe."

He then looks out for Melissa and wonders about the concerns of those talking about assassins. This leads to a consideration of how many domesticated animals he might have seen here in Lucimburic and what sorts of pressure they put on the air quality. These thoughts lead him to stare for a while.

Even though the fireworks were spectacular, Kyriel was wary of them. Knowing that Scolo was behind them dimmed her own enjoyment of them. She still can't shake the feeling that his magic makes other people brain-sick. For so long she's had nothing but her own wits to rely on; if they get addled, she has nothing.

She lets Aelasuria, Byron, and Cirrus draw as much attention as they want. The more they draw, the less is on her.

When Aristhandel comments about blatant defense acting as a deterrent, she shrugs slightly. "Then you still have the assassin in the wings. You can't have your men on alert all the time. All he has to do is bide his time for a little while and someone, somewhere will get careless. The best way to deal with this is to take whoever it is out. And take them out HARD.

Make THEM the message to the emperor, instead of having them make the emperor's message."

Having said her piece with quiet conviction she fades back into the crowd near Aelasuria, eyes and ears alert for any sign of trouble.

To Bryon:
Hmmmm... Long staff ... Aescopulo had a long staff - used it for special penetration, very earthy minerals and all that. He had a theory about deep portaling and a world inside the world. ...

Somehow thinking of the staff moved Scolo in only two or three mental steps to sheep. Something about shepherds and their crooks maybe and he asked.

Who keeps sheep In Lucimburic? I mean any animals really ... They seem to have labor divided by subspecies. So would an herbivore do it? Like a werehorse or a were cow or something or would it be a carnivore? Would you trust a wolf with sheep? Would a Cow want to do such a thing? Are there were cows? How many creatures are there? Now that I think of it - they all seem to be carnivores ... Or birds ...

Are there only finite choices or do new variants appear?

What's that? Vagrants here? I don't know - but if ... and the. .... Do you like the bath? I made a bath spigot once ... Gave it as a gift ... I wonder if it will help him relax ... I would like to relax - I once turned a hot spring to ink, it is very soft.

Hmmm? Oh yes wizards - we are very stout, stout indeed. And the AppleFranks to prove it.

To Aelessuria:
Huh? Oh yes .... I'm so happy did you see the dancers? He says with glee then conspiratorially adds
They were me Scolo giggles very pleased with himself that sphere up there may never go away - they can tie a rope to it and have a swing! Or a gallows I suppose - or maybe it would be a gallows on hanging days and a swing on Saturdays ...

"Thank you, but there is no need to curtsy to me. It is good meeting you, Bryon," Rita says, smiling while introducing herself. "And you too, Nichodemus...Scrumff," she says when the ferret kisses her hand. If Scrumff allows her, she will pet him gently. Is this Bryon's familiar, she wonders?

"Are you a wizard? Aelasuria told me you have fey lineage."

Rita is flattered and even a bit embarrassed when Bryon refers to her as "intelligent" and as a "Lady of Breeding."

"I am Rita Duronus, a priestess serving Lady Proserpina and Lord Pluto," she says. "Athena, whom we Romans call Minerva, was quite a good guess. My sister is a priestess of Minerva, and both of us, as children, were schooled at the Temple of Minerva, which runs the school back in Arras, where I am from, originally."

How should she explain that she is the only priestess of Proserpina, possibly in the world? Maybe she won't have to explain it. It is better to keep things simple unless Bryon asks for details.

"So you are going to be a bridesmaid too! Along with Cirrus, Kyriel, and Aelasuria's sisters, there are going to be quite a lot of us! Did you and Aelasuria know each other back in Geneva?"

Obviously, Bryon is not a wizard after all, as she tells Scolo she has never met a wizard before. A bard, perhaps?

"This is my friend Riordeg," she says, standing close to him. "Riordeg, meet Bryon."

Bryon will likely notice a resemblance between Theoderic and Riordeg, though Riordeg is younger and has dark hair while Theoderic's hair is blond.

"The baths in the palace are wonderful. Several of us bathed in them the last time we were here, a few months ago," she tells Bryon.

Baths in the palace - he is not confused but since he was thinking along two different threes and they can sometimes influence one another Scolo wonders aloud about
Bats. Hmmm Werebat, now that would be nice, I wish it were true about turning into one if it bites you, I would enjoy being a bat. Do they carry rabies?
At about the same time he answers Byron - oh yes ... Relaxing - where are the baths? I don't know but surely that could be the next stop of this little party! Whoo hoo! What do you think fellas?
He says to his feet, the bunnies seem to nod.

I used to heat an area of the river back home - Edgar liked it ... Hmmmmm

He's not here - doesn't like crowds but he won't miss a bath party.

She nods slightly seeing Kyriel is very serious about dealing with any potential assassins.

With Scolo she smiles her green eyes sparkling a bit as she remembers the wonders of the performance. "Oh yes particularly when you made them sparkle so that people could see them. Interesting that you made them invisible at first. A truly wonderful performance Scolo I think that people will be talking about you, Cirrus and Diamond hammer for quite some time to come."

She blushes slightly at Bryon's suggestion however she too favored the baths as she truly had enjoyed them on her first visit. She trusts Scolo is a adult and can care for himself despite his unsane nature. He hadn't survived this long by doing anything foolish. "OH yes! I was fortunate enough to enjoy Duke Bastow and Lady Babette's private baths. They are truly amazing and one thing about Lucimburic I will never forget. I am sure they have a variety of bath Houses in Lucimburic. I haven't had the chance to try them though." Which she might not especially with the Duke's and Lady Babette's private baths available.

She looks surprised when Scolo talks about bats then smiles knowing his mind tends to wander a little. It certainly was a interesting topic. "You never know Scolo magic can do wonders if you unravel it's mysteries. Although I am not so certain you would want a curse as that is how people perceive that Myth. A uncontrolled transformation that  leads to dark things. However if you could transform at will like they do perhaps it would be a wonderful gift. You could pray to their goddess. I have no idea if she will answer though."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Rita:
"Thank you, but there is no need to curtsy to me. It is good meeting you, Bryon," Rita says, smiling while introducing herself. "And you too, Nichodemus...Scrumff," she says when the ferret kisses her hand. If Scrumff allows her, she will pet him gently. Is this Bryon's familiar, she wonders?

Scrumff looks over a shoulder at his mistress, "She can understand me? I thought only you could do that."

Bryon schruggs at her companion, "Maybe she is using magic?"

Rita:
"Are you a wizard? Aelasuria told me you have fey lineage."

Rita is flattered and even a bit embarrassed when Bryon refers to her as "intelligent" and as a "Lady of Breeding."

Bryon grins. She liked this girl, a lot. It was too bad she seemed smitten with her uninteresting companion. "No but I do use magic. It just comes from a different place."

Rita:
"I am Rita Duronus, a priestess serving Lady Proserpina and Lord Pluto," she says. "Athena, whom we Romans call Minerva, was quite a good guess. My sister is a priestess of Minerva, and both of us, as children, were schooled at the Temple of Minerva, which runs the school back in Arras, where I am from, originally."

How should she explain that she is the only priestess of Proserpina, possibly in the world? Maybe she won't have to explain it. It is better to keep things simple unless Bryon asks for details.

Bryon was all but bursting with energy, she hopped up and down, clapping. She is showing off her attributes but not for the boy, for Rita. A girl can hope, right? "Oh but your far to bright and cheerful to be a godess of the underworld fellow. No that can't be right. I don't know Proserpina, but Prosper I know to be a word that means to get ahead in life. So if your other diety is one of prosperity, then I think you fit nicely. And from a temple of wisdom no less. Well I think you and I will be lovely friends."

Rite:
"So you are going to be a bridesmaid too! Along with Cirrus, Kyriel, and Aelasuria's sisters, there are going to be quite a lot of us! Did you and Aelasuria know each other back in Geneva?"

Obviously, Bryon is not a wizard after all, as she tells Scolo she has never met a wizard before. A bard, perhaps?

Bryon tried to make sure this part went well. It could easily shame the future Queen into putting Bryon into a place of honor reserved for friends and Bryon was not about to make that social faux paux. "I'm from Helvectia, which is near Geneva I suppose, nearer than it is to here anyway. No I just met the lovely future Queen today and although I am sure we are becoming good friends, right now we are still in the becoming phase. Besides, I not bride's maid material for a couple of reasons. One - I'm more the type of girl that gets invited to a bachelor party, if you get my meaning. Two you must be a maiden to be a Bride's Maid, otherwise your a Matron. I left Maidenhood behind a half dozen years ago..." At this she blows a kiss to the sky, meaning she does not regret loosing her virginity, "and I would hate for anyone to call me Matron. It would make me seem old and used up, you know? I have much of life left to live."

Rite:
"This is my friend Riordeg," she says, standing close to him. "Riordeg, meet Bryon."

Bryon will likely notice a resemblance between Theoderic and Riordeg, though Riordeg is younger and has dark hair while Theoderic's hair is blond.

Bryon gives the fellow a halfhearted curtsie and an equally halfhearted, "A pleasure." She hardly looks at him, much less gives him the time of day. Rita was the interesting member of this duo.

Rita:
"The baths in the palace are wonderful. Several of us bathed in them the last time we were here, a few months ago," she tells Bryon.

She sides up to Rita, threading an arm through the Priestess' "Well I would invite you to bath with me, but you may not return to your bo." This is again her not so subtle way of saying "I want you, Rita."

Then Scolo returns to the converation,
Scolo:
At about the same time he answers Byron - oh yes ... Relaxing - where are the baths? I don't know but surely that could be the next stop of this little party! Whoo hoo! What do you think fellas?
He says to his feet, the bunnies seem to nod.

I used to heat an area of the river back home - Edgar liked it ... Hmmmmm

He's not here - doesn't like crowds but he won't miss a bath party.

It was not until just then that she noticed Scolo's bunny feet. She squeeled and laughed and clapped. "Magnificient. Bunnys for your feet. Oh I must have bunnys for my feet. Are they your familiars? You are so very interesting Mr. Scolo." Leaving Rita she threads her arm through Scolo's. "I was thinking of a party as well, but you were the only guest I was thinking of inviting. Come, lets you and I go look for baths and other ways to relax each other." If he lets her she all but Drags Scolo with her toward what she assumes will be a bath house. Turning to look over her shoulder at the others she gives a knowing wink, "Don't wait up for us." This is aimed at Aelasuria, but anyone who wishes may respond.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Eadoin has already explored the issue of baths in Lucimburic.  There are limited possibilities for bath taking in town.  Sadly, the palace baths are at the basement level of the palace, and off limits to all but a few… although Aelasuria has that option, as do her guests.

The town has only two public bathhouses.  The “Upper Town” bathhouse is on the north side, a little west of the Tower of Higher Arts.  They charge a modest fee for the “basic” services, and more expensive supplementals (soap) are available.  Down in the Grund, “Uncle Gus’s Bathhouse” is along the Alzette River, on a narrow semi-island all its own, and like some of the other establishments in the Grund, is very cheap, at least at the outset, and makes money selling goods and services of a somewhat shadier nature.  In particular, rumor has it that the side businesses of Uncle Gus’s Bathhouse are not the sort of things that someone of Eadoin’s age ought to be exposed to.

The palace has its own baths, and so do some of the more upscale buildings of the town, but most of the town’s bathing is simply done in the river, as the Alzette river is close by and clean- although the astute local never bathes downstream of the Grund.

Of course, it is late December.  Bathing in the river is not without hazards.   Sometimes, people can hear the howling of intrepid bathers plunging in.

*** *** ***
Scolo has drawn a lot of attention, and there are people, especially children, wanting to know more about the flamboyant wizard they have never seen before.  Or heard of.  He gets a lot of “who are you?” “where are you from?” and “How can I become a wizard?” right up until Byron starts to drag him away.

** ** ** **

One by one, people trickle away, and the plaza empties out.

One of Aelasuria’s friends returns.. one of the two she assigned to watch over Cirrus, to report that this might be a harder job than she thought.  But at least, Cirrus is going to sleep for the night, at the palace.  They can rest, and face another day tomorrow.

Eventually, it is time to turn in.

* * * * * * *

In the morning, that is, late in the morning, under the kind of gray winter sky that carries a slight threat of snow, Phileas Argentos returns to the stage in the Plaza.

There, he announces the day’s entertainment, and festivities.  In the afternoon, the Lucimburic Medal for Gallantry will be presented to one of the bravest citizens of the Duchy… and there will also be a wedding.  He leaves it at that, supplying no more detail.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

With the children, Scolo plays pulling coppers and tree frogs out of their ears and telling them all manner of lies and few good truths about how to become a wizard.

Go to school but don't believe what they tell you

the best books are for adults only

forget everything and hunt for a leprechaun

rub a tree frog on your forhead for three days, but don't kill it

Don't be a wizard be an anarchist

you need to listen to very loud music all night long

You could go to the academy but if you stay too long they suck the magic out of you.

Just believe in yourself you can do it

They head of to the bathhouse eventually ... I won't dare say what may or may not happen there, or how many people come and go but Scolo has the ability to do prestidigitation all the time - so the water temp is always perfect and those spiky little washcloth mits are awesome! and ... there may even be fireworks for all the people in the bath.

In the morning Scolo can be found barefoot with his naked legs hanging out the window - he is eating a winter salad and throwing out the Belgian Endives...fortunately they fly away like little birds until the real birds (blackbirds mostly) snatch them up for warm nest making.

He sings a little song

"Still I sing bonney boys
bonney mad boys,
bedlam boys are bonney
for they all go bare
and they live by the air
and they want no drink nor money"

This isn't the window to his room, it's a public hall - but he is wearing his smock.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Rita smiles at Bryon. "I'm not using magic. I don't need words to understand that Scrumff is giving me a friendly greeting, which I most appreciate. Aelasuria loves animals, and in spending time with her, I'm finding myself coming to be more fond of them as well."

Bryon's magic is probably an innate part of her, just like Cirrus's magic is. That's how things seem to be with fey creatures.

"Fey magic, I'm guessing," she says when Bryon says her magic comes from a different place. "A bit like Cirrus, the girl who just sang so beautifully. She is part sylph."

Bryon is clearly not familiar with the Roman pantheon, which makes sense, given her background.

"I am a priestess, not a goddess. We are at a festive occasion, and we just won a great victory, and knowing what went into that, of course I am cheerful. But I am a priestess of Pluto. That is how I trained. I have since had--messages from him saying he wants me to serve his wife, Proserpina. She brings brightness and cheer to the underworld. As for prosperity, perhaps you mean the goddess Fortuna. Or maybe Pluto because he is also the god of wealth.

I am not a priestess of Minerva. I attended a school for children run by the Temple of Minerva,"
she clarifies.

Bryon is not acting at all the way Rita expected. She's barely paid attention to Riordeg at all. Rita is secretly glad though she will not betray those feelings.

"I would love to be friends with you. And don't worry if you don't know all the details about the Roman gods. That's not your heritage. I barely knew anything about the fey until I left Arras, and I'm still learning."

Not very familiar with wedding customs, Rita has never heard that a bridesmaid must literally be a maiden.

"Really? I thought a bridesmaid is any woman the bride chooses to honor and make part of her ceremony. Perhaps the customs differ in different cultures. I'm not even sure what the Roman custom is. That's a question for a priestess of Venus. I for one would never ask anyone such a private question. If Aelasuria wants you to be a bridesmaid, it's between you and her. I certainly would have no problem with it.

You're certainly not old or 'used up.,'"
she says, laughing slightly. "The words don't matter. It's the love and goodwill among friends that does.

It would be up to Lady Babette to decide whether we can use the baths at the palace,"
she says. "Are you staying at the palace or with the elves?"

Rita is somewhat taken aback seeing Bryon making advances toward her. I need to learn more about satyrs and what they are about, she thinks to herself.

"Of course I will return to Riordeg. Always," she says, trying not to offend the woman while at the same time making her position clear.

Then Bryon is distracted by Scolo and his bunny slippers.

"I see what you mean," she whispers to Aelasuria, making sure Bryon cannot hear her. "Don't worry, Riordeg. You know I would never leave you."

Her face brightens, and she smiles as an amusing thought occurs to her. "Thank the gods my father isn't here to see this," she says to Aelasuria and Riordeg, still whispering. It wasn't so much Bryon coming on to her as Bryon coming on to almost everyone. "This is exactly why he is so against the wild Saturnalia celebrations."

"I have no problem with it. I think Bryon can be a bridesmaid though I respect her feelings on the matter. I am not certain she wishes to be one. I am fine with that and I hope that you enjoy yourself Bryon. Your part fey it's possible you will live longer then I will." She smiles at bryon wondering what sort of longevity the immortal fey might impart.

Looking at Rita she listens to her as she responds to Bryon  Rita composes herself well then turns her attenton to scolo briefly as he walks off with Bryon. Waving to both of them she smiles then look over at Rita. "Yes I think Bryon is more fey then human."

Listening to her friends she nods slightly replying softly to them offer to assign more as needed. She is aware though that life is as it will be only so much can be done. Still she will do her best to guide Cirrus to use wisdom in her decisions.

Shaking her head slightly with a smile she continues softly.  "I think no harm has been done. All who particpate are willing at such festivals. I have never seen one myself. It's getting late we should return to the palace."

Bryon hummed as she washed her face that morning. A wonderful morning after an eventful evening and she was in high spirits for it. She dressed and found Scolo
s bunny slippers. She picked them up and giggled to herself at his forgetfulness.

She found him sitting in a window box, which caused yet another round of merry laughter. "Master Scolo, you forgot your bunnys." She places them on the floor near him so he could find them easily. Then she bends in and kisses his cheek warmly. "Thank you for a very entertaining evening. Don't forget you've promised that if you find more foot bunnys you will give them to me."

She pauses a moment for his reply them floats away to the square for the announcement. She claps for joy, wondering if it was the wedding or one of the others planned for this time. She had seen lots of winter lovers about, any of them could be planning to make the "grand mistake" as her uncle called it.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Somehow, on very short order, Mergyon had found appropriate clothing for Tawna and Haakon for their award and wedding ceremony.

Preparations had been hasty and chaotic- the crowd in the plaza (they've been there on and off for days now, coming and going, a changing sea of faces enjoying the entertainment and taking a break from shopping and eating.  The haste and ambiguity was deliberate- if the palace staff and the citizens of Lucimburic were confused, with even Theoderic and Aelasuria not knowing the plans, certainly, any attacker would be confused as well.

Thus far, no sign of any serious problems- the guards had managed to break up a fight between two wereboars (much to the dismay of the wereboars) and there had been reports of pickpocketing but nothing else.

So Mergyon had worked his wonders.. or rather, his contacts did.   He knew several of the finest tailors in the city, in fact, he was related to two of them, fashion being a common career choice for Wereminks.  Haakon had an outfit based around a polished bronze breastplate, with all sorts of braids and decorations, and Tawna had a dress that was “poofy” in places that she normally did not poof.

“I'd complain,” she whispers to Haakon, “but it's his moment, why not let Mergyon enjoy it.”

But Mergyon does not lead them to the plaza.  He merely directs, and lets them know that Phileas will take over and manage things at the plaza.  Mergyon has other work to do, and hurries off.

Phileas Argentos makes the announcement.  First, a single trumpet sounds.  Loudly.  An F sharp.

"Ladies and Gentlebeasts," Phileas says.  "His Highness the Duke of Lucimburic wishes to acknowledge the special courage and service of a citizen of the Duchy."

Bryon simply stood in the crowd, taking all this in. Despite the "mistake" about to be made, she cannot help but feel excited for the two involved. It was romantic and they were starting a new life together. Plus there were bound to be plenty of unattached people about and she should be able to locate at least one interesting person in the lot.

She smiles as she finds herself suddenly surrounded by dwarves, all of which vie for her attentions. She laughes merrily, giving each a bit in turn, but never enough to fully sate. Let them chase her a bit more...

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

If nothing else, the ceremony on the stage gives an opportunity for the display of Lucimburic's soldiery.  There is a squad of troops on either side of the stage as Tawna and Haakon walk up.

Surrounding the plaza is Lucimburic's cavalry troop.  The Duchy has very few horsemen.  There is a general shortage of domestic animals here, especially riding animals.  For reasons unknown, most Lycanthropes have a hard time with domestic animals.  The "predator" types, the Werewolves and Foxes and Lynxes especially, seem to make horses nervous, and it takes a lot of training for a Lycanthrope to overcome this and keep the animal calm.

Most visitors soon notice, also, there are no "Were-forms" of any domestic animals.  Only their wild cousins.  Foxes and wolves yes, dogs no.  Boars yes, pigs no.  No werecattle, but perhaps a WereAurochs.  Sheep and goats... well, no one's seen a Weresheep here.  There are a few Weregoats, but clearly, their "goat" heritage is derived from the wild ibex, a creature often found in the Alps, or maybe the chamois, with a larger range, or maybe a mix of both.

Because of the tension between domestic animals and the Lycanthropes, the mounted troops of Lucimburic are drawn almost entirely from the Duchy's Human population.  It is a small force, kept around for special purposes which are best served by mounted soldiers- and this kind of ceremonial function is one of them.

Then the Duke himself appears, a towering, broad figure as big as an Ogre in his hybrid man-bear form.  With shining armor and huge hairy arms, he ascends to the stage... and gives both Tawna and Haakon hearty bear hugs.

In the plaza, on the stage, the Duke makes a long presentation, describing (quite vaguely) Tawna and Haakon's efforts on behalf of many- scouting for the troops, rescuing Elves, bringing back vital reports concerning the movements and plans of the Huns.

Mergyon the Weremink Majordomo makes an appearance, and very officially gives the Duke two small golden medals- intricately inscribed and patterned disks of metal- on silk cords.

He grants the award to Tawna first, calling her a Hero of the Duchy of Lucimburic, hereby noted for gallantry, and loyalty to the Duchy.

Then he introduces Haakon.  "Not a citizen of our Duchy," he says, "but one who deserves our acclaim, who has fought by Tawna's side for months and seen her through every hardship.  Therefore in recognition of this I do proclaim him First Companion of the Order of the Forest Moon."

The Duke finishes his presentation and presents Haakon and Tawna to the crowd, which responds with a mix of applause, cheers and wild hooting and howling.

Duke Barstow himself applauds, and smiles.  When the noise dies down, he addresses the crowd again, his loud voice carrying over the plaza.

"Tawna and Haakon have requested of me a boon.  I have told you there will be a wedding here today and there shall be, the wedding of Tawna and Haakon, who do deeply desire to spend their full lives in the company of each other."

The crowd applauds.. weakly.. there is a lot of sputtered reaction, whispers back and forth among them.  It's them?  It's not the king and the Elf?

Obviously, many were expecting to witness the wedding of Theoderic and Aelasuria.

"Isn't it just like Wereweasels," someone says.

On hearing the comment about wereweasels, Haakon moves his hands only to return them to their former position and takes Tawna's hand again as he realises that his ceremonial garb doesn't include his bow.  He relaxes and grins.  "I'm not a hero", he says, "I'm a dressmaker.  I've done things, I admit, killed dragons, sacked cities, faced an ogre alone and unarmed, rescued my aunt and cousin from slavery and set up a highway patrol to keep Vesontio, my home town, free of bandits.  But I'm not a hero.  I wouldn't dare be a hero because I value the esteem of this Lady beside me more than that of anyone else, and too often when I take risks, she thinks I'm crazy.  So... I'd be really grateful if you people could stay and share in the lifelong bonding not of two heroes but of a dressmaker and a schoolmarm."

Melissa finds Scolo in the crowd.

She seems strangely clumsy as she approaches him... because somehow, her elbow collides forcefully with a skinny, nervous looking young man who was standing next to Scolo.  He slips into the crowd and scurries away,

"Where have you been?" she asks.  "That woman?  Can she be trusted?  That reminds you... you are a wizard.  Do you know what happens when a wizard walks through a crowd alone?  You might has well have an open invitation for pick pockets and cut purses."

A short man with a craggy, grizzled face snarls, and he too loses himself in the crowd.

Up on the stage, Tawna squeezes Haakon's hand hard when he goes into his "Just a humble dressmaker" routine.

"When it's served up on a platter, take your share," she whispers.

After a few more remarks, the Duke introduces the cleric Kolitya, Lucimburic's priestess of Diana.  Or Arduinna, depending on preference.  The werebear woman ascends the stage, and invokes the blessing of the patron goddess of Luciburic.

About that time, Tawna realizes what has been overlooked.

"Rings" she whispers.

If HE knew about you ... It would ... Well

"I did a little looking around," Melissa says to Scolo.  "Wouldn't you know.. I did find an old friend.  They thought they might have a chance of doing some mischief here.  But they were relying on a sorcerer who quit on them.  So they left too.  It seems things got too hot for them here.  People will do a lot for money... suicide, usually not."

At the side of the stage, Uncle Wallis, patriarch of Tawna's Wereweasel family, whispers to get her attention.  Tawna looks embarrassed, and crouches to talk to him.

After a little more whispering she answers him, "Yes, I know that's how you and Ferelda did it, and my parents, and it's Wereweasel tradition, but I don't think using rings stolen from wedding guests is appropriate considering I've just been named a hero of Lucimburic.  You should give them back. Quietly.  Let's not make a fuss."

Fortunately, Mergyon, not wanting anything to go wrong and spoil the pageantry of the day, had prepared for just such an emergency.  He hands the small box to the Werebear priestess.  She nods and continues, going through a small speech about the wonder and beauty of living under the guidance of Arduinna, and then hands the two rings to Tawna and Haakon.

"You must put them on each others fingers," she says.  "Then by the traditions of our people, you are married together, to share your den and your lives, and raise your cubs to be worthy citizens."

Treat them right, They are threadbare,

They are too tight and of course his only pair
From the front and to the back an old brulap sack.
It'le be fun when they come undone and he summons an imp to wear!

Did you learn anything about this sorcerer? Perhaps he is still around ... Sneaking and creaking. Whooooo do you think it was that woman? Can she be trusted?

Tawna hesitates for just a moment, wondering where the "Ithee" thing came from.  They don't do that here.  Then see puts her own ring on Haakon, and says, "Now you are mine and my tribes, and I am of your tribe as well, for all of our lives."

There is applause, and the Duke waves his arms to summon more of it.

When things begin to settle, he has another announcement.

"Did I say one wedding?  I may have been mistaken.  My dear friend Theoderic, King of Austrasia and Belgica, our neighbors to the west... and also to the east, a technicality, but mostly to the west.  And his bride, the beautiful daughter of a noble house of the distant Alps Elves, Aelasuria.  Both have done great deeds, and I'm sure most of you already know who..."

He is interrupted by a child trying to get his attention at the edge of the stage.  He bends down, and listens.  Then he nods and says aloud, yes, yes, the one with the Unicorn.

"Now, following the wedding, Diamond Hammer will be playing again!"

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

On the stage at the Clear Fountain Plaza...

“There's going to be food,” Tawna says.  “And that Dwarf band with the wizard is coming back.  We can leave the stage, but let's not go so far.  A little off to the side, maybe.  Ooh, look, wine.”

The Duke has sent servants through the crowd, distributing little cups and filling them with wine from kegs on a wheeled tray.

Tawna drags Haakon in that direction, even as the Duke makes his next set of announcements, turning over the stage to an Elven woman, Miriam Soulwater.

"Priestess of whom, again?"  Duke Barstow asks.

"Druantia," Miriam Soulwater says.  "Goddess of love and trees."

Barstow nods.  "That is an odd combination," he says.

"Not for Elves."

With his loud voice, Barstow introduces her to everyone present.  "Miriam Soulwater, priestess of the goddess Druantia will conduct the wedding for her daughter," he says.

* * * * * *

Out in the plaza, Raude Parisi is working her way closer.  "She's going to do the ceremony?" she says mostly to herself.  "Well, there is no harm in that, I suppose.  Druantia is certainly an aspect I have not heard of yet."

* * * * * * *

In the Elven tradition, the two family groups enter at the same time.  From the main door of the Palace, Theoderic walks towards the stage flanked by Entherin, his Elven grand mother, and Chara, his half elven, half human mother.  Procyon and Spica the Unicorns, trotting over from the other side, join them.  They are all he really has for family present.

Mergyon, working with a Weremink tailor he highly recommends, has done his best.  In a nod to his Merovingian heritage, Theoderic has chosen to be married in a "ceremonial" version of his battle armor.  Mergyon has had it polished to where it shines like a mirror, and there is a new cape in rich, shining Merovingian blue.  With buttons and braided gold cord and other decoration, they've added sparkle and glitter wherever possible.

Procyon and Spica are pure white counterpoints behind him.

The group walks toward the stage, while Aelasuria's march larger contingent approaches from the other direction.

Aelasuria smiles warmly at the gathered crowd wanting them to feel welcome. She was surprised by the number of people present though warmed by the thought that they cared about Theo. Some of them no doubt were here for Tawna and Haakon's wedding.

When she see's the newly wed bride and her groom Aelasuria smiles warmly at them. They likely had felt the same joy, excitement, nervousness and more that made for a unusual mixture of emotions. She watches Cirrus proceed her with flowers her arm likely linked with her fathers at the moment. Then glances over at Marisol with a warm smile. "It is unfortunate Unicorns do not Marry like we do Marisol. This would likely bring back wonderful Memories of your own wedding had you had one."

She briefly lets her eyes rest on Kyriel wanting to thank her for being here. Although she knows she can't without risking drawing attention to her. When they reach the stage she gracefully walks onto it. Taking her place near Theo speaking softly to him.  "You look very dashing in your armor Theo." Then she looks at her mother speaking softly as she briefly hugs her not worried about Ceremony. "I love you mother. I am so glad that you and father were able to make it."

Then she smiles waiting with Theo as the Ceremony would no doubt start very soon. She had been warned there was potentially danger. Aelasuria trusted the people around her to protect her. Even so she remains alert on the chance something happens.

Although he only catches the latter half of Raude Parisi' sentence, there is no mistaking the name of the goddess she mentioned, Druantia. The elven goddess of love and trees - his mother's goddess. Salen breaks into a wide smile.

"It appears we have arrived with the most impeccable timing. Better we should announce our combined presences, I think."

With that Salen makes his way as close to the stage as he can, which is not easy when there is any number of werecreatures and assorted spectators to wade through. But between his efforts and the crowd making way for a High Priestess of Venus, they are able to do so without too much difficulty, whereupon the Elf catches the attention of Miriam Soulwater, and the assembled throng on stage. He smiles and bows floridly, then indicates his companions - Raude, Swift and Ayren.

"Hello, mother. Would you have space up there for four more?"

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Tawna glances around the plaza.

”There are so many guards around, that if anyone suddenly shows off a weapon they didn’t expect, it would probably cause as much chaos as a genuine attacker,” she says.  “There are a few of my kin in the crowd… guards on the roofs, guards around the perimeter on horses… it’s enough to make an assassin’s skin crawl.”

There are, according to Wereweasel teachings on the subject, two kinds of assassins.  There is the professional, who expects to be well paid, and who plans well.  And there is the idiot.  That is the kind who just runs in and either has no clue, or has a clue and doesn’t care.  Tawna is quite certain the professionals out there would recognize the extremely dense layered defense and probably wouldn’t even try.

She direct’s Haakon’s attention back to the stage, adding, “and it would be very wrong to leave, now.  Look, they’ve got Unicorns.  Unicorns!!”

Indeed, both bride and groom are escorted by Unicorns.. the bride is riding on a Unicorn, a touch that moves the crowd.

”She’s set too high a standard,” Tawna whispers.  “Every little girl in the Duchy is going to want that, now.”

Aristhandel Soulwater helps his daughter dismount from Marisol the Unicorn.  Aelasuria doesn't need help.. but it seems like the proper wedding thing to do.  Cirrus stands in front, the thin, pale girl practically hidden behind the flowers she's holding.  The attention isn't really on her, but she soaks it in anyway, beaming behind her flowers.

On the stage, Miriam Soulwater is not all that amazed to see that Salen Soulwater has suddenly appeared.  When you are a priestess, you expect good things to happen, especially when they concern the area of interest of your goddess.  That’s just the way the universe is supposed to work out.  But… who are these others?

Ayren shifts herself closer to Salen, and very quickly, Miriam Soulwater understands… Salen has apparently brought a date to the wedding.  She directs Salen into Aelasuria’s family group on the stage, because in Elven custom, a wedding is between two families, each presenting their member.  She puts Ayren as close as non-family ought to be, to the side of the stage, and the others nearby, behind Ayren.

And she begins the invocation, the blessing of the wedding ceremony.

”We invite the goddess Druantia, the Protector of Trees, Giver of Knowledge, Spark of Creativity, Patron of all Love and Passion, and Queen of Dryads.”

In the back of the wedding party, Aelasuria's sister hands Rita a small ring made of leaves.  "It's a laurel," she whispers.  "Normally there would be an assistant priestess, to place the laurels on them, but you are the only other priestess, since mother didn't bring hers.  When she motions to you, one laurel for Aelasuria, and one for Theoderic."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Miriam Soulwater makes a speech, more to the crowd than to the couple, explaining how it was her daughter’s desire that she perform the wedding.  She speaks in Elven and then repeats herself in heavily accented Latin,  adding that it has been a long, long time since she was in Lucimburic.

Some of the locals look slightly puzzled.  They’ve never seen her here.  But then, “a long long time” means something else entirely to Elves.

She tells everyone has Aelasuria is truly missed at home- the red haired, ever curious, ever happy child who seemed from a young age to have decided that the whole world should be as happy as she was.

“No one would have expected this wedding, two years ago, that this wedding would have taken place,” she says.  “In fact, Aelasuria seemed quite determined to avoid that kind of entanglement.  We all thought, when she’s had more time, yes, another fifty years or so, and maybe… but this came upon all of us quite suddenly.  But it is true love, and true love is such a rare and wondrous thing that it must always be indulged, for its own sake.”

Listening in, Raude nods along and whispers, “Well that’s a good thing, then.  Perhaps Druantia really is an aspect of Venus.  I shall talk to this Elven priestess, when I have the chance. “

Somewhere in the crowd there is the sound of a Wereboar very loudly blowing its nose.

Miriam Soulwater continues, describing how the gods created the bonds of marriage to be the format for the expression of love between a couple.  Eventually, she reaches the Questions, which she poses first to Theoderic.

“Theoderic son of Clovis, son of Childeric son of Merovich…”

Off to the side, Barstow whispers to Mergyon:  “She’s done her research.”

“She may well have met them in life,” Mergyon replies, also in a whisper.  “Merovich passed but six decades ago, not so long a time in the life of one such as Miriam Soulwater. Still… she’s quite clever.   A careful reminder to the Elves that Theoderic is a Merovingian, and a king. “

“Are you certain of your heart's call?”  she asks of Theoderic.  “Have you reflected upon the import of your union, your desires and destiny?  Do you wish to unify your heart with hers?”

Theoderic wastes no time.  “All these things yes, for her, everything is yes.  In all the world there is no other Aelasuria.  She is the treasure of my life.

Miriam smiles and says, “Simply saying yes, will do.  But there is nothing wrong with such expression of feeling.”

Then she repeats The Questions, for Aelasuria.

Babette pulls a handkerchief from a pocket and dabs at her eyes.  “Oh, we should have these every year,” she says.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

OOC: Wouldn't Riordeg and Gellas be walking in as part of Theoderic's family?

Also: Does Rita see Raude Parisi in the crowd? She would definitely recognize her. On the other hand, Rita is not very tall; if Raude also is not very tall, Rita may not be able to see her in such a large crowd.

Just at the right moment, Salen walks in! She looks for Ali'Cor, but he is much harder to see in such a large crowd. He has to be here, though, she thinks to herself.

If the procession passes near Haakon and Tawna, Rita will congratulate them even though she does not really know either one of them.

Carrying her own bouquet, Rita deeply feels the solemnity of the moment, especially seeing Aelasuria riding Marisol and Theoderic, in exquisite ceremonial armor she has never seen before, escorted by another unicorn. Being near Cirrus, she can sense the girl's happiness from all the attention she is getting, and, if she can make eye contact with the girl, smiles softly at her. It is good to see Cirrus happy. What a long way she has come from the days of being practically a prisoner in Lutetia Parisiorum.

If she can see Riordeg, she smiles at him when their eyes meet. She imagines a similar setting, but with herself as the bride and Riordeg as the groom. Of course, this is far too fancy and extravagant for a priestess like herself. It isn't the large crowd or the pageantry she really wants anyway; it is being united with the man she loves. Would Honorius accept Riordeg, given that he is neither Roman nor well-educated?

Rita has never heard of the goddess Druantia. Ordinarily, she would have asked about elven religion when they were in Geneva, but at the time, there were so many other immediate concerns. Druantia seems to incorporate aspects of Diana, Minerva, and Venus.

She very carefully and gently takes the laurel rings handed to her by Aelasuria's sister. It is a good thing the girl remembers that Rita is a priestess since she is wearing her dress for the ceremony, not her clerical robes (she would not have worn those unless asked to do so by Aelasuria or someone in the wedding party). Taking part in a wedding ceremony is not common to clerics of Pluto, but there certainly is no rule against it. Besides, she is a priestess of Proserpina now, and Proserpina likely looks favorably on marriage, given her own marriage to Pluto.

Nevertheless, this is a pleasant surprise, as she had not expected to take part in Aelasuria's wedding as a priestess.

"Thank you," she says quietly and reverently to Aelasuria's sister. "I will present them when she asks."

Will they wear the laurel rings as their wedding rings, or will they replace them with rings made of gold or of something more permanent? she wonders, making a note to ask Aelasuria's sister after the ceremony. How would laurel rings last over time unless they are protected by some type of magic?

She watches and listens carefully, reverently, as Miriam Soulwater presides over the ceremony, looking intently at Theoderic and then Aelasuria as they affirm the Questions and vow themselves to one another.

It is a powerful, sacred moment. Her parents had met at Clovis' coronation, and somehow, her presence and involvement at this wedding is connected to that. And what had been broken sixty years ago in Entherin's time is now being repaired. Behind everything are the hands of the gods.

She couldn't help it smiling warmly with emotion welling up as her mother reminds her of her childhood back in Geneva. Curiosity had indeed been very strong and occasionally found her sneaking into her fathers library as well as magical sanctum where he conducted research. Which had made him laugh once he had made sure it was perfectly safe for future visits. She also had loved swimming making it hard to keep her away from water! As well as a good bit of exploring. It didn't hurt that there were bakeries and other delightful shops calling her name throughout the city. Even the forest was a mystery she wanted to explore and see. Making it sometimes needed to have her followed discretely in case there might be danger.

Listening to Theo's parentage she was very curious about his grandmothers side as well. The Mark was a important part of Theo's heritage. Aelasuria smiles taking Theo's hand as he replies. Then Nods speaking softly to her mother.  "Yes mother I love him very much."   Her green eyes flick from her mother to gaze into Theo's lovingly. Aelasuria practically glows feeling joy at this moment. Knowing that soon the laurels would be presented.

She listens to the ceremony; this is the first elven religious ceremony she's been involved with in her memory. She's not even too clear on the different elven gods. Obviously they're more than a little different from what the humans believe. Maybe she'll take the time to investigate her people's beliefs when she gets back to the academy.

Better to clean himself properly, change into clothes fitting for a public gathering, and show this union the respect it doubtless deserved.

Weddings were a thing of great import, even more so when it was a king who wedded himself.

Petra was there doubtless too - Heolstor stayed near her, worried he might lose her in the crowd. He'd seen to purchasing her a dress suitable for the celebration too. The answer no, or stubborness in the way of who ought to pay, being brushed aside with a casual smile.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

She was a wise woman, Miriam Soulwater, which was undoubtedly the reason Salen never tried to pull the wool over his mother's eyes, so to speak. She had always been more understanding of why Salen had chosen to become a warrior, rather than a wizard like his father and younger sister. But perhaps she also knew his innermost thoughts on that matter? In any case, his father was much the sterner and their relationship had oft times been frosty, though that had somewhat thawed recently.

Whether any of that wisdom had passed down to Miriam and Aristhandel's eldest child was a matter his parents had likely discussed on more than one occasion, but Salen himself was no fool, for all he played one. He was also wiser than many in other ways, and he could sense how Ayren moved closer to him as he spoke to his mother. He had known her only a short while, a fleeting instant in elven terms, but she was...nice. Sweet. And...wasn't there a wedding going on? He hadn't considered bringing a date to Aelasuria's wedding, but had acted on impulse when inviting Ayren. Even when weddings were often a good place to...well, enough said.

He gave Aela a wink as he took his place on the stage with his family, then turned and nodded reassuringly to Ayren. And look - there was Rita! It had been some time since their paths had diverged, and it pleased him to see her again. Surely Riordeg would be close by also!

And then his mother begins the ceremony. Her description of the young Aelasuria, that ever curious, oh-so happy little sister of his. I taught her everything she knows, he thinks to himself with a grin, and turns to say so to those nearest him - only to find that his family are nearest him, and ready to silence him with those 'Please don't, not now' glares. No sense of humour, some Elves.

But, anyway - the wedding. It was deeply touching to see Aelasuria so happy, and Theoderic equally smitten. Who saw that coming, even a few short years ago? No-one, not even the two protagonists, in all likelihood. But that was the way of love, whether it was Druantia or Venus or whoever. Everyone had a chance for some.

Which was a scary thought. It might ruin a scoundrel's reputation.

Theoderic’s side of the family isn’t nearly as large as Aelasuria’s.  Aelasuria has a small mob with her, and that’s without cousins.  Those are mostly siblings, father, and a few close friends.  Since Riordeg is a cousin of Theoderic’s he’s nearby as well.  Gellas, however, is back home in Hiricio.  There is a wedding, yes, but there is still work to be done.

With the Questions finished, Miriam moves on to the Rings and Laurels.  As in Human traditions, the rings are exchanged.  But the elven Laurels, the crown of leaves, is symbolic of Nature itself blessing the union, so they are generally presented by a cleric, usually an assistant, to both.  Rita happens to be a priestess, and Prosperpina can be reasonably interpreted to be a Nature goddess,  laurels entirely up on the customs of Elven weddings- while the family generally present

Out in the crowd, Raude Parisi takes notice of Rita as she officially bestows the laurels.

"Honorius's daughter," the High Priestess of Venus whispers to herself.  "She must hear the news."

Miriam Soulwater explains the Elven customs to Theoderic, just in case.  "Theoderic, the rings are your acceptance of each other, and the laurels are the world's acceptance of the both of you.  You belong to it as much as you do to each other. And now with the rings and laurels, you are married, and may you never part."

Her smiles brightens when Salen winks at her remembering some very fond memories from younger days. Some of which involved riding horses which reminded her briefly of the saddles they would display later while riding. Hopefully in time to aid Cirostis in his sale. Cirrus she notes is loving the experience of the wedding making it likely a very happy moment for her as well.

Gracefully she exchanges Rings with Theo taking a moment to step closer and gaze lovingly into his eyes. She blushes slightly smiling warmly at Theo even as she is aware everyone is watching them. She waits patiently for Rita to bestow the Laurels on them.  Then after her mother pronounces them as Married another lovely smile blossoms as she looks at her husband.

A bit later Aelasuria whispers softly to him with a smile. "Your going to need to get used to having a large family Theo. I imagine Salen will possibly be around more then my father. My sisters will probably try to corner you to talk a bit later as well before they go back to Geneva and other parts. Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Seeing Salen arrive just in time to join the Soulwater clan, Rita smiles at him, and their eyes meet. She had adventured with Salen a few months ago and appreciated his sense of humor and playfulness, which always lightened the mood. The only thing missing now is his flying mount, which likely is back in Geneva.

As soon as she takes the laurels in her hand, Rita realizes her mistake. The laurels aren't wedding rings--they are crowns to be placed on Theoderic's and Aelasuria's heads! The custom is beautiful and intriguing, especially in light of the fact that Greek and Roman cultures also crowned people with laurel wreaths though in their cultures the laurels are a symbol of victory. Theoderic and Aelasuria have just won a major battle, so even in Greco-Roman symbolism, the laurels are appropriate.

And she is impressed with Miriam Soulwater's remembering that Rita now serves Proserpina, given all that took place during their visit to Geneva months ago.

After watching the couple exchange rings, she gently places the laurels on their heads, first on Aelasuria's--given that Aelasuria is standing closer to her--and then on Theoderic's. It's as if I'm crowning them, she thinks, honored that she is now forever part of this special wedding. Silently, she offers a prayer of gratitude to both Proserpina and Pluto. I will remember this moment all my life.

She wonders how often the couple will wear the laurels, especially in public.

So much goes through her mind as she completes her small part of the ceremony. Her memories flash back to the visit to Divonantum, to a weakened Entherin, to the sudden revelation that it is the gods who have brought Theoderic and Aelasuria together both for love and for a greater goal--healing the rift between the elves and humans and restoring the Fourth Mark.

Lady Babette is not the only one with tears in her eyes.

When the ceremony is over, at the first chance she gets, she hugs Aelasuria and then, if Aelasuria permits, also hugs Theoderic.

"My heartfelt congratulations to my best friend," she says earnestly to Aelasuria. "Thank you for inviting me to be part of your happiest day. May you both have a long and happy life together reigning as king and queen of Belgica and someday, of all Europa."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

She had been relived at the opportunity to have something appropriate to wear. Having packed little more than the peasant skirt and blouse which she had donned back at the cabin.  It was one of those gestures from Heolstor that she did not anticipate, but were becoming less surprising, the more time they spent together.  Of course, word was beginning to run that she was more than only his attending priestess.  And any lord would want the woman he was seen in public with to be proper and presentable.  But, she knew him well enough to know that hadn't been his first motive in buying the gown for her.  With all he carried on his shoulders, he somehow never seemed to lack time or attention to think of her in small but important ways that brought a smile to her lips.

Despite the small amount of time to have a proper fitting done, it had come out alright. And was not an ostentatious affair, which wasn't her pesonality, and would have made her cringe:

The pair were a lovely looking couple -- King and noblewoman; a wizardess of great craft, if she understood right.  And...

Human, and Elf. For Petra Faust, this ceremony and event raised and ran emotions already flowing closer to a torrent.  On the one, everything was so beautiful -- and the couple appeared so beautifully and blissfully in love.  It was like a wedding from out of a fable.  But...

How could she not think of her parents?  The only union of Human and Elf she had known during her young life.  And, naturally, the whole bundle of feelings associated with how their marriage had played out.   Clearly, this was a different sort of relationship.  For all that her mother had prided herself on being Elvish, and carrying the culture with her even in her exile, Anriell Faust wasn't exactly a typical Elf.  Perhaps this Aelasuria wasn't either; Petra didn't know her at all.  But, she seemed to exude a genuine warmth that Anriell had never had.   With her scarlet hair, she was bright and fiery; sharp contrast to Petra's raven-haired and fair-skinned mother, who had always seemed like she belonged in the shadows of a moonlit night.

And her father had loved her so very much. With all of his soul and heart. Would that it had been reciprocated.  But, her mother had married for sanctuary, and not for love.  And had gone once it was no longer needed.  Or, had fled from further pursuit.  Likely, she would never know the truth of the tale.

It was all a little...too much.  The similarity, and the difference, at once.  And, standing here, next the man she was coming to have such feelings for.  And all the questions and uncertainties attached to their own relationship, and what the future might or might not hold.  The feelings stirred within her heart were so very poignant.  In that way that life itself could be; where you weren't quite certain whether the joy and the beauty were the greater, or if the pain and hurt was.  And it seemed nigh impossible to draw a clear line between them.

She shouldn't feel ashamed.  She knew that she should not.  It was common.  Happened a lot.  Women cried at weddings.  People expected it.  Didn't matter that she was a battle-priestess, or that she flew about on a winged steed.

So, she let the tears flow freely down her cheeks. (Not as if she could have stopped them anyway...) And dabbed at them with a handkerchief she'd had the foresight to bring, just in case.   Petra had learnt ranger-craft before she had become a priestess.

And that had taught her to always be prepared.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

With the Rings and Laurels, it is official.

Theoderic is at a little of a loss as to what is considered custom here and what isn't; Miriam Soulwater is officiating, so it is an Elven wedding, but he isn't sure about what Elves do.  He works off of his experience, sealing the marriage the way he thinks it ought to be done.  He leans over and with his hands on Aelasuria's shoulders, finds her lips with his, and the audience applauds.

Miriam takes a few steps away and introduces the new huband and wife to the crowd.

But it isn't over.  Raude Parisi steps towards the stage,  There are a few spells known to the priestesses of Venus that could be useful at a moment like this, but she knows better than to use magic on them without clearing it in advance; security is very evident.  Instead... she presents a gift.

She knows the couple... but not the priestess.  She introduces herself.

“I've brought... from Arras... the crown of the queen of the Eastern Franks. “

She pulls a delicate looking gold tiara from a small box.

* * * * * * *

After presenting, Raude Parisi pauses briefly to tell Rita:  “I need to speak to you.  I have come from Arras.  There is news you must here.”

On her way back she takes note of Petra.  Obviously they belong to completely different traditions.  But Raude knows a potential ally when she sees one.

Rita is urged to meet with Raude in the Grand Hall of the Palace of Lucimburic Thread.  For Petra, it is merely an invitation.

Elsewhere in the plaza, Phileas Argentos finds Scolo.

“You're on again, my friend.  The Dwarves will take the stage when Theoderic and Aelasuria are done with it.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

There is one more thing to be done immediately following the ceremony--Rita's announcement of her gift to Theoderic and Aelasuria, specifically, the creation of the Belgica Relief Fund for rebuilding the kingdom, helping refugees start new lives, and for anything else the king might need, including paying his troops.

She turns to Lady Babette. "It is time for me to announce my gift, the new fund for Belgica. Everyone is here, and we have the benefit of their goodwill toward the king and queen, the knowledge of our immediate victory, even the spirit of the Solstice. Please allow me to make the announcement now."

Assuming Lady Babbette agrees, Rita addresses the crowd. She is somewhat nervous, not being used to speaking in public other than leading small religious services, but in this case, her faith in the cause enables her to get past any discomfort.

"My name is Rita Duronus. As a good friend to Queen Aelasuria and King Theoderic, and as a priestess of Lady Proserpina and Lord Pluto, I offer as a wedding gift to them the start of a new, special fund, the Belgica Relief Fund, to support the rebuilding of our cities, relief to our refugees, even to pay the soldiers who put their lives on the line in this war. There can be no greater gift to the king and queen than the renewal of their kingdom. I pledge 100 gold pieces to this fund, and I urge everyone who feel so motivated to give whatever you can, no matter how small the amount. I, Lady Babette, and Lady Chara, King Theoderic's mother, will oversee the fund. Give your donation to one of us or to a representative we assign to stay here and take donations during the festivities. We will make sure to have someone here at the Fountain on behalf of the fund. Donations of items instead of money-- supplies, clothing, food, even weapons and armor--are all welcome. This will be an ongoing project, for as long as necessary. Lady Babette will collect donations here in Lucimburic once those of us who are visiting take our leave. You all have my word as a priestess that every item, every coin donated will go toward the king's effort to rebuild his kingdom."

OOC: Not sure if this happens before or after Raude Parisi crowns Aelasuria and tells Rita she needs to speak with her in private.

Rita is genuinely surprised just to see Raude Parisi here, let alone have her bring the crown. She didn't even know there were special, magical crowns for queens; all she knew was there are magical crowns for each of Clovis's sons, and that Raude had been the one who ended up having Theoderic's crown and officially crowning him at the Autumn Equinox.

"Mater Raude," she says deferentially. "I did not know you were here. If I had, I would have deferred to you the honor of crowning King Theoderic and Queen Aelasuria with the laurels."

Ordinarily, she would be eager to hear news from Arras immediately. But this is a special moment, a beautiful once-in-a-lifetime scene, and she does not want to leave. Plus, she had been planning to stay in a prominent position near the fountain to collect the first donations.

"Can the news wait, at least until later today? Aelasuria is my dearest friend. I don't want to leave just yet. I wanted to stay here myself and collect donations to the Fund. If my father's condition is not an emergency, please permit me to stay for now, and I promise, we will talk in a few hours."

With Theo her lips quirk into a slight smile as her green eyes meet his with just a touch of shyness. She could tell her wasn't sure what to do and she had a feeling he would kiss her. Then he does and Aelasuria melts into the kiss her eyes drifting closed. When it's over the world seems to come back and her blush darkens slightly. She gazes at him lovingly for a few seconds then turns her attention to her mother.

Aelasuria meets Rita's eyes briefly smiling warmly at her when she places the laurel on her head. Then returns her gaze to Theo as he receives his laurel as well. Smiling she gently returns Rita's hug affectionately then makes a graceful gesture making it clear she doesn't mind if Rita gives Theo a hug. The rest however is up to him of course.

When Raude Parisi approaches she smiles at her accepting the gift. Then gently holds the High priestess of Venus hands in warm greeting. "It's a pleasure to see you Raude. Perhaps later you can visit to talk with my mother and perhaps the rest of us. Mother Raude is the High priestess of Venus and the one who ordained Theo and brought him the crown."

A bit later when Rita makes her announcement Aelasuria looks to Theo speaking softly. "She will make a difference Theo and I think the people will remember her for it." Gently she slips her hand into Theo's preparing to leave the stage as the Dwarven band Diamond hammer would soon arrive. "Perhaps after the entertainment we can go riding for a bit. I imagine dinner will be a very social occasion."

Kyriel gives Aelasuria a hug after Rita. She's still a little worried about the bounty; that means that she'll have to be doubly alert later. The hug she gives Theoderic is a little hesitant; she really doesn't know him outside of working for him. She's not even sure that he'll recognize her like this, and how do you give a hug to king anyway?

Upon hearing Rita's announcement of the fund, she gets out the comb and buckle. "I was going to give these to you as your presents, but I think that somehow they'd end up in the fund." She grins at Aelasuria and King Theoderic and adds with a twinkle in her eye "Besides, I heard somewhere that the land and king are one."

She then puts the items in Rita's hands. "Mater, please take these as a donation."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

There is a big reaction to Rita's announcement.  When he gets a chance, Theoderic let's everyone know that anyone in the mind to give a gift would do better to support Rita's fund rather than any wedding gift.

“I have what I need,” he says.  “And now that I have Aelasuria for my wife, I have more than I can possibly deserve.  But there is healing and rebuilding to be done, and families torn apart, and Rita is doing her best to make things right.  This is as good as a cause as their ever was.

Raude let's Rita know her news isn't ohmigod right this second important.  Just important.  They can meet at any time over in the Grand Hall thread.  Besides, there are people to meet.  As soon as Aelasuria introduces them, Raude starts talking to Miriam.  The two have some very different outlooks, and they are curious about each others' views.

Theoderic and Aelasuria find out that the crowd is not yet ready to let them leave.  There is too much celebration left.

Besides, Aelasuria had promised the local Werelynx singer, Felicity, the chance to sing at the wedding, and she hasn't had a chance yet.  She takes the stage with the Dwarves, giving Cirrus a brief rest.  Lyrandol also volunteers for a brief stint, even though the loud, pounding Dwarf sound is completely opposite his quiet, refined Elven style.  Why not?  These events don't happen often.

Kyriel notes that thus far, nothing serious has gone wrong.  Is it possible that the very tight security was too much for their opponent, who decided to wait for a safer opportunity.

There is so much going on, and every moment, someone wants to talk to Theoderic and Aelasuria.

“I don't think we're going to have time away from this today,” he says.  “Tomorrow.  There'll be time for riding.

Cirrus finds them after doing a song with the Dwarves, and Lyrandol.

"Lady Babette wants me to let you know that dinner for the wedding party is in the palace dining room.  She said there is no set time, but if you are too late Duke Barstow will probably eat it all."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

She nods slightly smiling at Theo as she takes her new tiara off of her head. "Here Rita take this I am sure it will help with the rebuilding and helping those in need." She gives Rita the precious item hoping that it would do far more good then simply being lovely piece of jewelry on her person. She speaks softly to Theo as she listens to Raude talking to her mother. "I hope Raude will understand she likely went through a lot of trouble to bring that to us."

She is perfectly content to stay happily talking with anyone that wishes to talk to  her. She watches Kyriel for a bit then responds to her. "Thank you Kyriel just being here for us is enough of a gift."

Happy to see felicity she briefly gives the Werelynx a affectionate hug. "I missed you Felicity. It's good to see you and I do look forward to hearing you sing again." She also listens to Diamond hammer, Cirrus and of course Lyrandol when he sings. Nodding slightly she stays close to Theo. "I think your right. This celebration is as much for the people as us. I think we will be very busy meeting new people for quite some time. A enjoyable thing I think!"

When Cirrus approaches them Aelasuria perks up very happy to see the young sylph though not sylph. "Thank you Cirrus for letting us know. Theo and I will try to be there before the duke eats everything. Cirrus perhaps you could save something for us if we get delayed!" She teases in a lighthearted good natured tone as well as a look of amusement.

In due time if Tawna and Hakon are still present she makes her way to greet them. "Hello! This is Theo and I am Aelasuria. Congratulations on being named a hero of Lucimburic. I heard some of the people talking as we mingled with everyone.

She definitely stays long enough for the entertainment to run it's course as well as socialize. Eventually though when it's time she will make her way to dinner at the Palace dining room.

OOC: We can do that when the time comes. Will be happy to stay here and respond as needed.

Kyriel's opinion of Theoderic rises even more. That a ruler would make such a comment is a very good sign.

She is both glad and a little dismayed that the assassin hasn't yet put in an appearance. She stays near Aelasuria and the king as they chat with people from the crowd and celebrate. She chatters with the people around her and always seems to be moving this way or that.

When Aelasuria offers to put the crown in the offering, Kyriel looks at her friend. "Are you sure that's wise? The crowns are more than just gold and jewels. They may be magical. But more than that, they are symbols. Right now, symbols are as important as armies."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

The ceremony had gone off without a hitch, and now King Theoderic was married to Queen - Queen! - Aelasuria. It might take some people a bit of time to get used to that, but Salen thought otherwise, at least for him. He had become so used to associating his sister with Theoderic that this merely made official what he had come to regard as the norm.

Then Rita made her way to the front of the stage and made the announcement of her gift, a truly worthy cause, and one which did not surprise him in the least, coming from one so wise and thoughtful. What better gift to give, than giving itself? Why-

A gift! Salen froze momentarily, alarmed. In all the to-ing and fro-ing of recent times he had completely forgotten about a gift. But, in that very same instant, Rita provided him with his way out - a donation to the Fund. I left some money for the relief efforts back in Ganda - I wonder if that will count, if I mention it? Likely not! He smiled at his own thoughts, and then it was time for hugging.

He first bowed deeply to the new King and Queen, as etiquette dictated. Then he rose and hugged his new brother-in-law, The King. "Welcome to the family, Your Highness, and my heartfelt congratulations. Tis' too late to back out now!" Then he hugged his little sister, The Queen, and kissed her on the cheek. "Your Majesty," he said, with a wink.

He just had time to hug his mother before she and Raude took up their conversation, and to clasp arms with his father and hug assorted family members, before he managed to find Rita, and give her a hug too. "It has been too long, Rita Duronus! But it gladdens my heart to see you again. We must catch up, if your duties and Riordeg allow you any time to do so! I do have a donation to make to your Fund, after all, for my gift to the King and Queen."

All these hugs and greetings. But...wasn't he forgetting someone? Ah, of course - he had brought a date! Turning quickly about he found Ayren off to the side of the stage and brought her on, despite any objections made (even by her, should she do so) and implications otherwise - he was brother of The Queen now, and figured he could enjoy a little leeway.

And he was just in time to return and hear his sister's latest hare-brained idea - apparently some things just never changed. Some young Elf lass (Kyriel) was already commenting on that surprising decision, he was pleased to note.

"Come now, Aela!" he whispered (a little) harshly, momentarily forgetting etiquette as old habits kicked in. "That is the crown of the Queen of the Eastern Franks, far more a symbol of power and wisdom than a mere bauble. You cannot give it up, under any circumstances. Stick it back on your head quickly, and maybe some of that wisdom will rub off!" He paused for a moment, that grin of his returning. "As Your Majesty wishes, of course. I am but your humble servant, after all." And he bowed once more, the smile never leaving his face.

When he straightened he turned to his date, took her arm in his and introduced her. "And this is Ayren Stargem, lately of Bruxzella, among other places."

And if time and opportunity allow, he will introduce himself to Kyriel. "I do not believe I have had the pleasure. I am Salen Soulwater, of Geneva. You appear to already know my little sister, and have survived to tell the tale, which is most impressive indeed."

Snuffling, and lost in her various reverie and reflection, Petra nearly did not note the Venus-priestess until the woman was right next to her.

She was no little bemused by the offer.  But, very curious.  And not inclined to decline it.

"I am surprised," she said to Heolstor once the ceremony was complete.  "But I think I should go and see what this is.  Unless you've any objection to it; I am sure I am safe enough here."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Theoderic gives a slightly worried look after Aelasuria contributes the crown.
“I have to agree with Salen,” he says.  “And with Kyriel.  That's not just an ornament, that's a gift from the clerics of Arras.  It shows that they accept you and want you to be not only my wife, but the queen of my kingdom.   And besides... melting it down won't bring Rita much gold, and selling the crown of the queen of the Eastern Franks...  I don't know who would buy it."

Ayren does an uncertain curtsy for Theoderic and Aelasuria.  "I am from the Fourth Ward" she says in Elven, referring to the Fourth Ward of the Kingdom of the Ardennes- the site of the battles they fought with the Huns.

"From Namaco?"  Theoderic asks.

"Oh no, from the forest, nearby.  I am a Stargem."

"That name seems familiar," Theoderic says.

"We live on the edge of our kingdom.  Some of us are Warders.  We see strangers more than most Elves."

Babette shows up, to steer people towards dinner.  Apparently Cirrus didn't get them moving fast enough.  Babette gives Cirrus a consoling pat.  "You have to be more... well... more."

Babette is "more" and begins to herd people in the direction of the palace.

She tells Aelasuria and Theoderic:  "You have our old suite... one of the oldest in the palace, you know, first built for the... Duke.. well, a Werebear Duke long ago.  I should brush up on my history, but it's fine quarters!"

Listening to each of them she nods slightly conceding the point. "We are the symbol Theo I honestly don't feel a crown makes a person a king or a queen. Nor will a title truly make a person a king or queen it is their actions that do. Our unicorn friends now there is a symbol people can not mistake. However since it is important to the people I will keep it."

Smiling she hugs Salen affectionately in return happy to see him. "I see you didn't come to the wedding alone. Will you be staying long or will you be heading out very soon?" Her inquiry was directed as much at him as Ayren. She wonders if there might be another addition to the family in the near future which could possibly be months, years, or even decades. "It's a pleasure to meet you Ayren Stargem." She would have introduced Kyriel however Salen beat her to it. "Oh and Salen is a bit of a flirt so don't take him seriously Kyriel." One tease deserved another as she lightly elbows salen with a playful air about her.

Seeing that Babette has come for them personaly Aelasuria laughs and smiles. "Duty calls Theo we best be off." Slipping her arm into his she walks with Lady Babette going to the palace.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

"Thank you," Rita says to Raude when she says the news can wait. If Rita's father were seriously hurt or sick, Raude would let her know the situation was urgent. She breathes a sigh of relief and prepares to enjoy the performances, especially those by Felicity and Cirrus.

It is a good thing she is staying because Aelasuria and Theoderic are being swarmed with well wishers, and some of them are eager to give a few coins to Rita. She makes sure to thank everyone who donates, no matter how small the amount.

Rita is genuinely touched when Kyriel donates the comb and buckle.

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you," she says earnestly and gives Kyriel a hug. "They should end up in the fund. May the gods forever bless you for your generosity."

Salen heads over to her, and she hugs him back joyously.

"It most certainly has been too long! It gladdens my heart too to see you again, especially at this wonderful moment for your family. Of course I will make time for us to catch up with one another. Riordeg and I have pretty much been on the same missions for the last few months, so I'm sure he has stories to share as well. And I would like to hear of your adventures," she says, smiling.

Somehow, she is not surprised that he is donating to the fund. "Thank you. You have my deepest gratitude for this. I was running around the market with no idea of what sort of gift is befitting a royal couple who also happen to be my good friends. I asked Lady Chara and Lady Babette for help, and it was Lady Chara who suggested they would prefer my blessings more than something tangible. That got me thinking, and I came up with the idea of this fund to help rebuild Belgica."

She is taken by surprise when Aelasuria tries to give her the crown.

"I cannot take that," she says emphatically. "That tiara likely confers magical abilities, if it is anything like the kings' crowns. Mater Raude likely brought it to you for that purpose."

She agrees when Kyriel points out the crowns are important symbols.

"Mater Raude can likely tell us more about both your tiara and the king's crown. It seems she had them with her at the Temple of Venus in Arras for quite a while. She was almost stopped by a demon when she took King Theoderic's crown to him, so there is likely more to these than what we see on the surface. Symbols are very important right now; we need the people to believe in the king and in our cause."

She laughs when Salen jokingly says that some of the crown's wisdom will rub off on Aelasuria.

"Greetings, Lady Ayren," she says when Salen introduces the elf woman to the group.

"Well, there we have it. It is unanimous," she says, a smile lighting up her face when Theoderic agrees that Aelasuria should keep the crown and describes it as a symbol of support from the clerics of Arras.

"You have to let Arras do something right, for a change," she tells Aelasuria, still smiling. "My city owes Europa and both of you that much after signing that awful treaty with the emperor. I do very much appreciate the gesture, Aelasuria--I mean, Queen Aelasuria," she corrects herself. "If you truly want to make a donation, I am sure you can find another object that is worth the same amount of gold as this crown would be if it were an ordinary crown. Only if you want to, of course," she adds hastily.

She laughs when Aelasuria tells Ayren that Salen is "a bit of a flirt." All this time, she had been wondering how she would adjust to her best friend being a queen. But in spite of her new status, Aelasuria is clearly the same kind and at times even silly person she always has been.

She watches the beautiful fireworks, in awe of something unlike anything she has ever experienced with the exception of Scolo's show last night.

"I want to stay and see this, but we cannot miss your wedding dinner," she says. She takes Riordeg's arm, and they follow Theoderic and Aelasuria to the palace dining room.

"I hope Scolo and Melissa make it to the dinner too," she adds, looking toward Scolo to see if Melissa is nearby.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Tanwa is quite pleased to discover that the invitation to the palace dinner is extended to Haakon and her.  She takes a moment to present herself “officially”.
She is a small person, with dark hair and eyebrows and a wiry, slinky look.

“I understand you and the Duke have been friends a long time” she says.  “He's my third Duke, actually, or just the second depending on how you count, and I have served the two before him.. but today was our first public recognition.”

Our?”  Theoderic asks.

“Wereweasels,” she says.  “We're not always appreciated.”

I see,” Theoderic says.  “I have heard stories that might explain why not.”

“All true,” Tawna replies.  “Every one of those stories... except the one about the Astonishing Duck of Sapient Wood.  But... if we weren't meant to be what we are, would we be what we are?”

Riordeg naturally follows close by Rita, observing her for clues as to how to behave at an official dinner.  Very fortunately, he learns that the Werebears don't pay much attention to custom.  They have no idea which fork to use either, and Mergyon has long since given up trying to teach them.

Mergyon introduces the chef- they've borrowed him from the Clear Fountain Plaza Tavern this evening, as he thought he needed something up a notch from the regular palace fair.

Kyriel is glad that the others agree with her about the crown. She hopes that Aelasuria will take their advice.

Aelasuria's tall brother speaks to her, and she looks up at him. "I am Kyriel from the Shadowdancer clan. I met Aelasuria a few months ago. We spent some time traveling together but we've had to go our own ways more often than not. I happened to catch a ride here for the wedding." She mock scrutinizes him before whispering to him with a twinkle in her eye "So you're Aelasuria's audacious brother? She's told me a little about you. Must be really hard to outshine Aelasuria and Ali'Cor that way."

The comments about Namaco reminds her. "My clan is in Namaco. What does anyone know about what happened there?"

Then Lady Babette interrupts them with news that dinner is ready. As someone from the street, it's hard to ignore the siren call of food. "That sounds good." She helps Lady Babette move the party to the palace.

She returns Rita's hug. "Mater, I'm glad that I'm able to help."

"I am afraid I haven't heard the stories. I am happy though that you have finally been recognized." She found the mention of the Astonishing Duck of sapient wood although she refrains from asking. She could tell the dinner would be more interesting with Tawna present.

"OH Salen Were-Bears tend to give crushing hugs in greeting. Just thought you should know as a sturdy griffon rider of Geneva you might get one!"   she looks over at Kyriel as they talk about her clan interested in hearing about them. "It's true we often ended up going in different directions."

Haakon stood at Tawna's side and kept schtumm until he did, perhaps disingenuously introduce himself as Tawna's husband.  "I am a dressmaker", he said, "and also a furrier although lately, sometimes with Tawna's help, I have developed a sideline in sacking cities, rescuing slaves, establishing the Vesontio Highway Patrol, slaying dragons and all around knight errantry but without the horses."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

A flirt? Me?! Salen puts on his best mock-offended expression at his sister's words, then turns to Ayren with a shake of his head. "Ignore her. She's been Queen of Europe for all of two minutes, and already she's drunk with power. Has no idea what she's saying." He turns back to the Queen with a smile. "I do recall those back-breaking embraces from my previous visit to Lucimburic, but thankyou for the reminder, Aela. I must remember to keep my armour on!"

"Well met then, Kyriel Shadowdancer. We also happened to catch a ride to the wedding, so to speak, though there were certainly no mounts involved - awfully useful to have a High Priestess around when one requires it most." In truth he is deeply grateful to Raude Parisi, otherwise he would surely never have made it. She was coming here anyway, but still, he would make a donation to Venus all the same. If he didn't blow it all in the next week or two, that was.

Oh, but Kyriel had more to add - audacious? Moi?! He turned to Ayren with something of a rueful if still roguish grin. "It appears that all manner of rumour and innuendo has been cast about regarding my otherwise flawless reputation. A truly shocking pattern of events. How does the saying go? Once is chance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action? Ah well, some of it might even be false - what is an Elf to do?"

He grinned, and turned back to Kyriel. "Thankyou for the...kind words. I have actually always cast a shadow over my brethren, which is why they're always doing daft things like running off into hiding, or wildly throwing lightning bolts around and becoming Queen of the World - anything for a bit of attention!

As for Namaco, I was among those that fought at the Citadel. We won, though I could not tell you much of the state of the people either there or in the Wards, for I left on a rescue mission shortly after."

At these last words he turned to Ayren, the object of the rescue, and put his arm around her.

"Now, where's the party?"

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Babette tries to steer the conversations away from “difficult things” like the war. In her view, it's a day of joy for Theoderic and Aelasuria.  No need to spoil it. She keeps her eye on her husband, Duke Barstow, worried that he will slip  up and start to talk about plans with Theoderic.  She intervenes whenever she thinks he's getting too close.

She cuts off Ayren, too, after just a little bit- When asked about Namaco, Ayren is barely able to tell how most of the the non-fighters among the Elves were scattered into the forest to hide during the battle of Namaco, but she had to stay close because she was a healer. They set up a secret healing camp just south of Namaco, and she remembers being terrified when the Huns reached the city, and she thought they would win.

Babette doesn't let her go further.

“It will upset people,” she says, “and I'm sure Salen wants a break from all that. He was there.  Why don't you tell us about how you came to be an Elven healer?”

“It's part of our old lore,” Ayren says.  “We know plants, and how they can be used to cure and heal and do other things.  Healing is only part of it.”

“Well that's something good,” Babette says.  “And are you.. staying?”

Ayren looks at Salen with uncertainty.  “There is no rush for me to be anywhere else.  My family is glad I am safe.”

“Of course,” Babette replies.  “You haven't known him long, neither have I.  But my experience says the Soulwaters are a remarkable family.”

Music drifts in from outside- the Dwarven band is playing in the Clear Fountain Plaza.

“We have a balcony with a fine view,” Barstow says.  “Whether you want to watch there, or in the plaza, Scolo puts on quite a show, don't you think?”

“Extraordinary,” Aristhandel Soulwater says. It's very different from the magic  I've seen.  Very.. unbounded.  Alive. “

“He is a very unusual wizard,” Theoderic replies.

He says quietly to Aelasuria:  “I just wish I knew exactly what we should do about him.  I told him we would get his village out.  It's not going to be easy.  Him... Melissa... things are complicated.”

"May the gods bless you for it," Rita responds when Kyriel returns her hug and says she is happy to help.

She looks around the table to see if Ali'Cor and Melissa made it. Scolo is obviously still outside performing.

She misses Vagrenk, who really should be here.

She smiles at Riordeg, her eyes twinkling, as he looks to her for clues about how to behave at an official dinner.

"You're the king's cousin," she whispers in his ear lightheartedly, making sure no one else hears. "I would think you would know more about such things than I do. You grew up with him."

Rita is well aware that formality was likely not that important in Raviniacum or Hiricio, especially given that Theoderic was not the son of King Clovis' wife. She had been to a few formal dinners in Arras, mostly gatherings of priests representing the various orders and their families, during holidays. There had never been royalty present at those occasions.

Theoderic's brothers should be here, she thinks but keeps the thought to herself. No need to mar the day with mention of family divisions.

She cannot help laughing out loud when Salen jokes about Aelasuria being "drunk with power after two minutes of being queen.

"I do love your family," she says, amused to Aelasuria. "Salen, the one person who could never be 'drunk with power' is Aelasuria," she adds playfully. "The queen does have a sense of humor, and that is a good thing. It is very different from my family, where everyone is always solemn and serious.

Too bad you didn't bring your griffon with you,"
she says, turning back to Salen.

Astonishing duck of the sapient wood? Rita has no clue what that is about, and clearly, she is not the only one in the dark. But she too won't ask, knowing that her questions might put her in the center of attention when this day belongs to the bride and groom--actually, the two brides and grooms.

"Rescuing slaves and slaying dragons?" she responds to Haakon. "Those things should earn your kind a reputation as heroes."

Ayren's description of being a healer is intriguing.

"Do you heal using spells and plants or just plants?" she asks when Ayren explains what she does. She looks around the table for Eadoin. "Eadoin is a druid who can cast healing spells but is very well-versed in plant lore and knows how to use them for healing. As a priestess, I would love to learn about healing with plants and herbs. It would be very useful to have access to several methods of healing."

"My kind?" asked Haakon, "I agree that Thuringians deserve a reputation for something other than cowardice (or did you mean dressmakers or humans) ... as long as I get to remain cowardly. I don't do heroic because my wife would consider me mad.  The dragon was a young one I shot in the arse and one of the slaves was my cousin."

"Hmm the dragons haven't been involved for the most part. Though I am not supposed to talk about certain subjects. Still I would like to hear the story of a battle with a dragon. Honestly I think you are brave Haakon as is Tawna it's just not something it appears a were-weasel prefers to be advertised." She is amused and happy for the other newlyweds wondering how he will handle things when they are expecting their first child. Tawna didn't seem the type to lay down and do nothing. She might remain active against the Huns sneaking around and doing who knows what until her armor didn't fit any more!

She couldn't help but giggle for a moment smiling at Salen as he talks about her being queen and of course wearing his armor for safety. "See that you do! It wouldn't due for you to be resting and recuperating from cracked ribs. I am glad that you and Ayren were able to make it."

Laughing briefly she smiles at her brother again listening to rita as well before continuing softly. "Thank you Rita. You could always try winning Kyriel over Salen by offering her a griffon ride. Though that might cement your reputation as a flirt. Now where is my wand I think I can show you wildly throwing lightning bolts about. If I give you a five minute head start I think that's fair Salen." However she gives him a gentle affectionte hug as she would never really hurt him. With a merry twinkle in her green eyes she follows Lady Babette very curious to see what sort of things dinner has in store for them.

"I hope to see a lot more of you Ayren. It would be nice to meet your family some day!" Taking a seat gracefully when it's time Aelasuria happily nibbles taking her time and enjoying the meal. When Lady babette talks about watching the entertainment she moves to the balcony not wanting to miss Scolo's magical display. "Yes he does. I do  look forward to seeing him prosper he deserves a happy life. I think Melissa has made a change of heart and it is my hope she will get a chance to do good things."

Looking to Theo she nods slightly knowing most worthwhile things are not easy to accomplish. "We will find a way Theo! The easiest might be to distract whatever forces may be near tricking them into coming out. Then move in with overwhelming force if a battle is needed. If not then we simply have to find a way to escort them to a new safe home. IF we had a powerful transportation magic at our disposal that might be the fastest and possibly safest. Though it depends on just how many people we are talking about. I am curious Ayren are you a prietess, a ranger or following another such profession?"

"I meant were-weasels," Rita clarifies to Haakon apologetically, feeling somewhat uncomfortable. "I apologize; I did not mean any insult. The queen is right. You rescued slaves and fought monsters, in spite of this cowardice you claim. That's what being brave is. And from the way she took part in the effort against the Huns, your wife is brave and heroic just like you are." She smiles, hoping her comments are understood.

Thankfully, Aelasuria comes to the rescue with her humorous comments about taking out her wand and shooting lighting bolts at her brother.

"What do we mean by getting Scolo's village out? Are we talking about relocating the residents to another village or about taking control of the existing village back from the Huns?"

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

“When I was growing up, he wasn’t a king,” Riordeg says to Rita.  “In fact, he was barely a prince.  Oh, we all knew he was, be there was no palace, no.. nothing like a kingdom.  Just someone who managed to keep a few hundred horsemen a step or two ahead of the Huns, hiding in the forests.  He grew up spending half his time in the saddle, so did I.  So none of us know courtly ways.”

There is the music from the plaza outside.  Just the Dwarves, now, still playing.  They have stamina.

The glow of Scolo’s display shines into the palace, and they see it all from the balcony.

Theoderic starts trying to explain how Scolo had left the little village behind, but the village was practically in the shadow of the Emperor, and now the wizard was afraid that the Emperor might vent his frustration.. so he had told Scolo that he would help them leave.  But then, Babette interrupts, determined to stop all serious discussion.

"Another time," she says.  "Tonight is to enjoy."

Cirrus wanders in, having sung all she can sing, looking tired.

”Those Dwarves want everything loud!” she says, helping herself to a cup of wine.  “And they keep going!  I’m so tired!”

Mergyon escorts the chef in, and his apprentice, a young man.  They are both plump.  Mergyon knows that is how to tell a good cook.  He never trusts a chef who doesn’t really like his own cooking.  They are wheeling a rolling table set with crystal dishes.

”The dessert,” the chef says proudly.  “Tart with Apricot Mousse.”

Accompanied by a sweet dessert wine, of course, so they set out little crystal cups on the rolling table, so dessert can follow the party, instead of everyone having to go the table.

Cirrus grabs a little plate and a little cup, and it is love at first bite.. and sip.

”Will we be in Lucimburic a while?” she asks.  “I think I have to eat this again.”

"Courtly graces can be learned when the time comes. I honestly think the important things all of you learned while riding and dealing with the Huns are very valuable. Although court can have it's own more subtle dangers that you have to be aware of. However Lady Babette is working very hard to make tonight be relaxing and on more light hearted topics."

She smiles at the Duchess feeling a bit of sympathy for her as she works tirelessly to keep things from getting to serious on this joyous occasion. She takes Theo's hand giving it a affectionate squeeze. "Soon enough Theo I suspect we will get to discuss it in detail. Tonight just this once perhaps it will be all right to live in the moment as we will have precious little our time as it were."

When Cirrus arrives Aelasuria smiles warmly at her seeing that she's tired though obviously enjoying herself immensely. She speaks softly to Theo with a happy expression. It's soft enough to mostly be private though anyone that truly tries will likely overhear it is a dinner table after all. "See the theater is for her Theo! That or perhaps the path of the bard though I honestly hope that she will still stay with us."

"Your singing is truly lovely as usual Cirrus. I am glad that you were able to make it to dinner! Oh I see you like the desert! It really is delicious although I am afraid I don't know how long we will be able to stay in Lucimburic. Though I imagine we can make arrangements to make sure you can enjoy a bit more of the desert one way or another. I know I certainly would appreciate being able to enjoy it again!"

While Kyriel doesn't lose  her focus on keeping an eye on Aelasuria and King Theoderic, she certainly does't ignore the food. It's hard to ignore habits that have helped her survive, so she quickly loads a plate with plenty of food. Somehow she manages to pack it all away.

She's just about in heaven when she starts eating the tart, and goes back for thirds and fourths (if possible).

Hearing the talk about Scolo's village, she adds "It's hard to get there. They're pretty much isolated due to the huns and a fey forest. Then there are some really odd things there. Hoppers that eat magic and other things. Some of the people there are brain sick, too. That will make it much harder to get them out."

"Maybe that is for the best," Rita says quietly when Riordeg explains how Theoderic and he grew up. "It makes him more a man of the people, someone who understand firsthand what ordinary people's lives are like. Too many leaders, whether kings or priests, are out of touch with the lives of the people they rule."

She does not mention any names, but Riordeg knows her well enough to be reasonably certain she is referring to Bishop Garrax of Arras.

"Cirrus!" Rita exclaims when the exhausted girl walks in.

"Just because the dwarves keep going doesn't mean you have to!" she says in a motherly tone, genuinely concerned that the girl had been overworked and had missed the dinner's main courses.

"Queen Aelasuria is right. Your singing is wonderful, out of this world. But you are no dwarf, and you should always feel free to stop when your body and voice need rest.

These tarts are amazing, but Cirrus, you can't eat only dessert; that isn't enough. You need to regain your strength, and that means you should eat some of the main course as well."
If the dinner food is still on the table, she will put together a plate for Cirrus. If not, she will ask the chef to bring a serving back out for the girl.

She listens intently to Kyriel's description of Scolo's village.

"What are hoppers? How did Scolo's village come to have magic eating creatures and people who are brain sick? Something had to have caused all of this, and we need to know what that is in order to face it without making ourselves vulnerable in this effort."

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

”A healer is like a cleric,” Ayren explains to Rita.  “We draw energy from the gods.. for me, Belenus and Sirona, the gods of healing.  But it is not exactly the same.  Our ways are more focused.  And we take certain vows- we cannot refuse a request for healing.”

Kyriel seems ravenous.. and Cirrus too.. which is ironic considering they are the two most petite people present.   Perhaps that will change.

Cirrus also has perhaps a little too much of the sweet dessert wine… maybe it’s just her unusual metabolism, because no one saw her drink more than one cup.  But it’s clear from the way she wobbles unsteadily when she stands, and from the way she leans up against the chef’s apprentice, telling him how wonderful his dessert is, in a sweet but slightly slurred voice.

Babette looks worried.  Too much fun can be as bad as not enough.  Outside, the band is finally running out of songs and is falling back on the old Dwarven tavern song “Gold!”, which has as many verses as one is able to make up spontaneously, and has sometimes been known to run all night, or at least, until the last Dwarf singing has passed out.

”Come, Cirrus, you look as if you need some rest,” she says.

”Oh, everyone’s alweesh worried about me,” Cirrus says.  Cirrus heard herself, and is suddenly embarrassed.  She blushes, and it’s evident in her eyes… as if she’s thinking:  am I really?  She looks at her wine cup, but it’s only half empty.  “I dimp even drink a full cup,” she says, sounding surprised.

"I could give her something for that," Ayren whispers.

It is a cue, the long day of festivities is finally winding down.

”Well, there is much to do in the days ahead,” Theoderic says.  “But we’ll get a very late start tomorrow.”

He extends a hand to Aelasuria.  Any day before this… he would have just said goodnight.   “My beautiful wife,” he says quietly, as if trying to convince himself it is true.

"But you drank it without eating dinner first," Rita says, not accusingly but protectively. "Before you go to sleep, you need to eat some food other than dessert. It will help you better absorb the wine."

From Ayren's explanation, it sound like elven healers are not like clerics, but are clerics, just of different deities.

"I believe Belenus is a sun god, a counterpart of Apollo. Is that correct? I admit I haven't heard of Sirona, but I would love to learn more about her. As for the healing powers of plants and herbs, are you permitted to teach that to others--to non-elves, such as myself?"

As far as Rita knows, Roman clerics do not take vows to never refuse requests for healing. Yet as an individual cleric, she has never refused healing to anyone and cannot imagine doing so. Her thoughts drift back to the healing she cast that saved Melissa's life.

"Please do give whatever medicine you can to Cirrus," she urges Ayren. In Rita's mind, Cirrus is still one of the fourteen children for whom she took responsibility back in Lutetia Parisiorum. That sense of responsibility, the instinct to protect the girl, has not wavered or lessened.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Most everyone that has been around Kyriel very much knows that she normally doesn't eat too much, it's just the festive environment and large amount of good food available gives her the rare opportunity to eat a lot. So she takes it while she can.

She takes a moment to answer Rita's questions. "Hoppers are some strange creatures that Rory and I encountered near Scolo's village. We had a wizard with us, and it ate the spell he was about to cast. It seemed very interested in the people with arcane spells, and it exploded when it was killed. I think it was something that Scolo let out from somewhere else. I don't know if it was intentional or not.

As for the people who are brain sick? I know of at least 2 or 3 people in the village that aren't all there in the head. This is in a population of maybe 200 people. In my opinion that's too high to be a co-incidence, especially since Scolo's magic is 'unsane' and doesn't seem to follow any logical rules."

She's glad that things seem to be winding down, but that means that the assassin is still out there. . . .

OOC: Ben Post number 127 indicates that Cirrus like Kyriel seems ravenous which indicates she ate a substantial amount of food if she's keeping up with Kyriel.

Listening to Rita she knows that Cirrus has little to worry about as long as she is around although she hopes that her friend won't overdo it. "Rita she did eat it's her sylph nature I think that is the problem. We all learn as we grow Cirrus just chalk it up to experiance. Hopefully Ayrens magic will spare you the headache in the morning. Drink water before you go to bed and again when you get up. That should help to prevent the problem."

Rising gracefully from her seat with a smile Aelasuria takes Theo's hand noting how strong it was and that he likely had rough spots from wielding a sword as well as years of riding. She gives Lady Babette and Duke Bastow a lovely smile.   "Thank you very much for hosting our wedding Lady Babette , Duke Bastow. Perhaps someday you can share the story of your wedding! We really should have talked about that during dinner! Were-bear celebrations no doubt are something to remember!"

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

The celebration is under way. Salen, for once, spends the early part of the dinner listening, for there is much about Ayren he simply does not know - they have only just met, after all. For all his bravado and mirth and extrovert nature, he has certain traits that mark him as a Soulwater, or at least his father's son: he is cool-headed in a crisis, always maintaining his calm when others around him are losing theirs; he is practical, always doing what it takes to get the job done; and he is patient, always willing to view matters in the long term. And yet, as his own (relatively young) Elf, there are times when he acts on impulse - as he did when he met Ayren. Where it all might go, he had not the slightest idea, but it would certainly be fun to find out.

Now is as good a time as any to discover how a healer works, their ethos and vows, and the ways of Belenus and Sirona. At the wedding dinner he eats comfortably but lightly, not over-indulging in any of the courses or the wines, for he has both an appreciation for the finer things in life and more pressing matters to attend: he has left this poor girl hanging too long already, and it is time to make his intentions plain. When opportunity allows he will take time, either sat during the meal or alone just the two of them on a balcony later.

"Forgive me, Ayren, for leaving this so long, but time and fate have simply denied me the opportunity, until now. These last weeks have been a dizzying storm for all of us, and only now can we take time to rest and relax. I can only guess at what you have had to endure, captured and kidnapped by Orcs, and now dragged off here by me amidst weddings and werecreatures and who knows what!

But, let me state that I admire you, greatly, and would welcome the opportunity to become further acquainted. I have no plans, no preconceptions, just an honest...desire, to become...close to you. I may be many things, or rumoured to be so, but I am an Elf of my word above all else. Whatever pleases you, it shall be so."

If Ayren so wishes, he will take her for a walk under the starlight, wherever they are allowed to pass within the grounds of the Palace.

The Fireworks come, and a dizzying light emenates from above the crowd - the 30 foot tickling mass of tentacles that was suspended in the air crackles away and the light fades until a hundred crossbow bolts fire into the air in rhythmic succession, they explode into patterns and images of little cuspids firing arrows into specific people in the crowd. Then as more and more appear to be struck the illusiory image in the sky shows a little puppet show of the king riding into battle to be pierced by scores of arrows from an army of cuspids. As he falls off his horse the king sees Aelessuri floating in the air surrounded by magic fields and he gets up still riddled with arrows and the illusory pair bow and dance away with the last several chords of diamond hammer playing quietly in the illusion. Scolo maintains concentration through all of this and he is exhausted in the end. He will probably sleep in the plaza.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Duke Barstow gives a big grin.  "Our wedding was not quite so public!  Off in the woods, with guests and honeycakes, no big fireworks.  Until the evening, that is.  But different fireworks."

"Oh, Barstow, please!"  Babette says.  Then she grins also, and whispers in her husband's ear.

Theoderic thanks the Duke and Duchess, and the others for attending, and gives Cirrus a pat on her shoulder, telling her to take it easy and listen to Rita.

The others begin to drift away, the music dies down.  Theoderic walks with Aelasuria across the ancient halls of the Lucimburic palace, passing the gardens, which are dark and still in the night, toward the suite the Duke and Duchess picked out for them.

It is a different kind of adventure.

* * * * * * * * *

And they are not the only ones with that adventure in mind.. though Riordeg decides… Rita’s still too young.. there is proper decorum to observe.. she’s a priestess and not some peasant girl so stop thinking like that… he yawsn and turns in for the night, giving Rita one little polite kiss.

Ayren gives a small dose of an herbal extract to Cirrus, telling her that it will help purge poisons of all kind from her system.  Then Salen and Ayren depart the hall for a walk in the evening air.  There is a popular route that follows the parapet of the terrace overlooking the Alzette river.

Very quickly, they learn that away from the palace and the lit, heated Clear Fountain Plaza, it is very cold.  There is no reason it shouldn’t be- it’s an Ardennes winter evening, after all.

Ayren, like Salen, has “been up and down a few trees”, as the Elves say.  By the time an Elf hits a hundred years, they generally have plenty of past behind them, and see relationships differently.  Most have some kind of attachment at that age, those that don’t have been through enough to the point where formal courtship is no longer a concern.

Ayren points out how cold it is, and figures Salen will take it from there.

Miriam Soulwater and Raude Parisi split the last of the dessert wine between themselves.

”Our work here for the night is done,” one of them says.  It’s not clear which.

Kyriel sees the pairings off, and this makes her miss Terrance all the more. Granted that they wouldn't do anything, but seeing that so many people here have someone makes her miss him. She says her goodnights to everyone.

She finds a place to rest in the ducal palace for a couple of hours before slipping into her normal clothes and poking around. Since there wasn't an attempt at the ceremony, in her mind one of the next most likely times will be tonight. Late, when most of the guards are sleepy and bored. Even if there isn't an attempt, there may be a subtle probe to see just how good Aelasuria's and Theoderic's defenses are.

She gets up around 1 in the morning and keeps watch until 5.

Between 1 and 5 am snoring can be heard in the plaza square occasionally, as a figure naps in a tree the warm glow of magic whisping around his naked knees. A purple balloon hovers over him, close to his chest.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Aelasuria smiles listening to the discussion regarding Duke Barstow's and Lady Babette's wedding. Then blushes when he mentions the different sort of fireworks. She quietly bids Cirrus and Rita good night knowing that Cirrus will be in good hands. Kyriel she thought was on the same page about possible trouble.  Though she wishes she could speak to her without being obvious to be sure!

Being a elf her needs for rest are different then Theo's. Up rather early in the morning she just snuggles for a while. Then slips out to take advantage of the baths, Brush her hair, and of course fetch breakfast. Which she likely wakes up Theo serving it to him in bed while smiling at him. "Breakfast is ready! Or did you want to eat with everyone else at the table?"

A bit later she visits Marisol Brushing her mane, tail, and of course looking after her as she always has. She also Grooms Spica lovingly then gives both of them hugs when she is done. "If I know Theo he is going to have a very busy day. So I thought it wise to visit you to early on before I get whisked off to do other things!"

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Crisp winter nights held something magical to Salen. Clear, starry skies, with a bright moon illuminating the landscape, a sharpness in the air that made you glad to feel alive. Provided you had somewhere warm to retire, of course. It was slightly different here compared to Geneva, but it was still nice. A walk along the parapet overlooking the river at this time of night, what could be better? He walked with Ayren's arm in his, each holding the other close. Why, on a night such as this he could walk...

What did she say now? Cold? Well, the heck with this then!

"Yes, yes it is. Come, I am sure the Duke and Duchess have provided us with a room, so let's go find it."

Salen takes it from there. He doesn't have to say any more.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

"Even a sylph needs to eat a proper dinner," Rita says, since Cirrus showed up after the main course was served, in time for dessert.

Given the sheer number of people staying in the palace, chances are Rita is sharing a room with several other women; Cirrus is likely to be one of them. Rita thanks Ayren for giving Cirrus the herbal extract and makes a mental note to keep a close watch on the girl, just to make sure she is okay, and there are no lasting ill effects from the wine.

She smiles, her eyes twinkling, when Riordeg kisses her. "It's been a perfect day, a wonderful day," she says. It's not as if she expected anything further "adventures" tonight. She and Riordeg are not married, and it would not be proper...Besides, she has promised to keep an eye on Cirrus, and she still has to have that conversation with Raude Parisi about the news from Arras.

"I did promise to look out for Cirrus, and to meet Mater Raude Parisi, the priestess of Venus from Arras. She said she has something important to tell me, but it wasn't urgent, so I hope that means the news is not bad.

Perhaps some time tomorrow, Cirrus and Kyriel and I could take baths downstairs,"
she adds. "I hope we don't have to leave yet. Does Lucimburic have any special customs to greet the New Year? If they do, I hope we can stay for those festivities."

She bids Riordeg good night and heads off to find Raude.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

In the morning, Theoderic wakes to find Aelasuria at his side.  Somehow, despite the newness, it seems perfectly right.  But then.. she has slipped away.

But later, Aelauria has another surprise.

Theoderic does not have a large family, and they didn't have resources to spend on lavish wedding gifts (and they wouldn't, not with Rita and her fund, and knowing how everyone felt about that.)  But they know Aelasuria by now, and they figured out the right gift for her (with a bit direction from Theoderic.)

It is on a chair near the table when they arrive for (late) breakfast.  A large box.

The box meows.

Elfin cats are native to the great magical forests of Europa, especially the Fey Forest of Brittany, and the Ardennes.  They are highly sensitive, intelligent beings, but tend to have very strange senses of "how things should be" and obey rules only they understand.

They quickly pick up the languages around them- they can't speak at birth, but are very talkative by 3 or 4.  They learn what they hear around them, and in addition, elven cats have a language of their own, which they speak fluently amongst themselves. It consists mainly of cat-like purrs, yowls, hisses, and meows, and uses body language (particularly the positioning of the tail and the erecting of the fur) to add emphasis to the spoken word. Occasionally, an elven or similar word will be added if there is no equivalent in the elven cat language.

Elven cats, although magical in nature and possessing extraordinary powers (which vary unpredictably from cat to cat) nonetheless have many traits similar to those of the standard house cat. They are fastidious, licking themselves clean after every meal, and therefore also prone to hairballs. They like to be hugged and petted, but only sometimes. They like to think they are in charge, and look down on all non-felines as inferior beings. On the other hand, they can be close companions, well-loved pets, and even occasionally serve as wizards' familiars (but only to elven wizards, and then usually only if the find familiar spell is cast by an elven wizard of high enough level to suitably impress the elven cat - they wouldn't serve just anybody, after all).

Aelasuria has met a few Elven cats before, in her travels- Noctore and Elsinore.  This one is just a kitten, in need of a home.

Theoderic has a few things to attend to- he sends messages to Gellas by courier.

They have hundreds of soldiers at their disposal- but keeping them in the field is costly.  Most aren’t here for the money, but still, they need to be fed, equipment gets used and abused and needs upkeep or replacement, and every day they are in the field, they are not working their farms or their herds or doing all the other things that makes people prosperous.

So he has dismisses them- sends them back, to their homes and farms and herds, scattered around his small domain.  Most of them, at least.  There a few he wants to keep in service.  Some have no home to go back to.  Some adamantly refuse, until the Huns are destroyed.  And he still needs some.

Theoderic organizes a road patrol, and road construction crew, to work the road between Hiricio and Lucimburic.  This forest trail will now become a key artery in his kingdom, linking his lands in the Ardennes with Belgica.  It needs to be more than a forest trail- it needs to improvements, to handle the traffic he expects.

In the days following the wedding winter at last set in with a vengeance, blanketing Lucimburic- and the entire Ardennes- with thick snow.

He has meetings with various people concerning plans and strategy, and he has good news for Scolo.

"We will keep our promise to rescue the people of your village," he says.  "We have the support of the Academy of Aurelianorum in this.  They will send Kyriel, and at least one wizard, I expect.  I will send Byron... and others.  I need you to be as clear as you can, and tell them as honestly as you can, what to expect."

And that is in a different thread, for those going on this quest.  A meeting with Scolo.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Needless to say Aelasuria is attracted to the box the moment she hears the Meow! Gently gathering up the bundle of love she cuddles and caresses the kitten lovingly. Her fingers play over fur looking for the places the adorable little kitten would love most. "Thank you! Thank you so much! Mmm Theo do I have your grandmother to thank for this?"

She looks thoughtful for a few moments trying to figure out what to name the elfin cat. "If you don't already have a name then I need to name you. Perhaps Felicia for a female or Aristotle for a male. I also like Nicademos and Ariel has a nice sound to it." She is already planning on stocking up on proper foods for a elfin cat. Plus she needed a little bed with blankets for the tiny kitten. Safe was definitely a must for the precious little life she had been given to perhaps be a lifelong companion. She would hope that the Elfin cat would never leave though they were very independent and you never could tell where life would lead.

She needless to say spends a fair amount of time learning her new companions personality and needs. "Hmmm I could try to cast the Familiar spell though I think the kitten is a bit young for that. I probably should ask father before he goes back home what he thinks."

Of course when it snows she's out in it eagerly making a few snow balls. Which if she finds a game with Lucimburic children she happily joins in on a snowball fight. She might build a fey snowman or snownymp as it were depending on her artistic taste of the moment. Then perhaps enlists a bit of aid in a effort to make a snow Unicorn in honor of Marisol and spica!

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

The group stuck to Lucimburic through the heart of the winter.  There wasn't much reason to go anywhere else.  The pace of life slowed, the days were short, and the nights long.

Those who had arrived in Lucimburic by magic, the family of Salen and Aelasuria, were the first to leave- the snows didn't hinder travel by magic.

Before they left, Aristhandel shared some advice about the kitten- let it get to a year old before trying to make it a full Familiar.

Aelasuria's sisters and friends pressed her tell all she could about her Human husband.  They are immensely curious.  They've heard stories, some of which might even be true, that they want confirmed.  But regardless of whether they can get anything out of Aelasuria, who is usually shy about such things, they do have to leave.  Teleport spells are tiring and not done lightly- and it's the only way home other than a long, long walk.

Ayren is much closer to home, but she's in no rush to go home, even though Chara and Entherin are planning to go in that direction.  Her experiences in Namaco and Bruxzella were hard, and she is no adventurer- she does not bounce back easily from this.  She is somewhere in her eighties... a few months away from home, that's just a short sabbatical.  And she needs her time with Salen, as a form of healing.

Eventually, Salen and Aelasuria both attend the Northern Front meeting.

Rita spends what time she can with the children. It is nice to have everyone in one place. She would like to brew some potions and scribe some scrolls, but not at the expense of spending time with the children. To the extent that she is permitted, she enjoys exploring the palace.

Is the palace kept magically warm all winter, or was that just for the wedding?

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

She takes the time to see her family off with lots of hugs and fond goodbyes. To be honest she wished they could stay longer although she understands if they have to go.

With her kitten she soon has a name for her Felicia. She definitely would wait until her friend was at least a year old knowing her fathers advice was something to heed in most if not all situations. With her sisters and friends she blushes a bit... possibly a lot depending on what they ask. Perhaps they do talk a little bit depending on certain questions.

She spends a good bit of time with Felicia loving the kitten very much. She tries not to over cuddle her knowing she will need respect as well as love. Aelasuria makes a point of introducing her to Spica, Marisol and Procyon. After all they are family and two out of the three have their own child whom she looks forward to meeting. Before they leave she tries to let Felicia spend just a little time with each of her family members.

Eventually she introduces her to Cirrus, Rita, possibly Kyriel before she leaves, and of course Apple blossom as well as Eadoin whom she considers friends. Unless they move Apple blossom and Eadoin would be neighbors once the war is over. Salen of course would meet Felicia in due time after all they would be traveling together.

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

Rita is excited to meet Felicia.

"I remember Noctore. He helped us back in Bableni. Will Felicia be able to talk like he does? Are you going to take her on adventures with you? At least while she is a kitten, it might be better to leave her in a safe place, at least when you're fighting demons," she says, confident that Aelasuria will know exactly what to do when the time came to go off to battle again.

"Would you let the children meet her? I can bring them in small groups so as not to overwhelm Felicia. If she would prefer not to be petted, I will make sure the children know. I do know they would love to meet her!"

Re: Clear Fountain Plaza-The Main Stage

"Yes Rita she will likely start talking between two and three years old. Honestly I am not sure I can leave her behind Rita. I agree I don't plan on bringing her into battle with me. I will have to ask Theo about it and see if we can make arrangements for her care anytime a battle is coming up. Cirrus for example could look after her so long as she's not engaging in battle. Once the fighting is over Felicia can be returned to me. If all else fails I probably could make arrangements with Theo's mother to care for her although I want to raise her myself so that is a last resort."

She nods thinking about Rita's request. "I will be happy to introduce her to them. I am sure with both of us present we will keep things under control. It's best to warn them ahead of time that Elfin cats are not always tolerant of being touched. Though if she wants the attention and affection by all means. They just have to know when to let go or stop."
