Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

The Aerial Pavilion floats above the Festival's Central Plaza, an indomitable conquest platform long ago refurbished for non-military application, and lavishly decorated in themes and colors appropriate to the Festival and its guest of honor. The pentagonal base has been altered to resemble a stylized floating cloud, strung with yellow and blue streamers and magicked to trail wisps of white mist. A raised stage is the centerpiece, with the Festival symbol (two clockwork wings framing a depiction of the Palace of the Founders) embossed over the entire surface in detailed marble mosaic.

The entirety is attended to by a host of people of the air garbed in white and azure, and guarded by ADF soldiers in ceremonial uniform and armor, including matching Phoenix Pinions in blue jade and orichalcum. The Anthegenian Defense Force's commander-in-chief, General Ruby Falcon, accompanies them personally, standing out in his Festival uniform and cloak of crimson, cobalt and gold accent.

Though the Pavilion is currently closed to outside traffic, those watching from sky-bridges and airships might glimpse a sighting of Princess Sophia, resplendent in a full-skirted gown so vibrant in hue it seems woven from sky and sunlight spun into cloth, accessorized with orichalcum jewelry and her crown of office nestled atop her brown curls. Another lesser-seen figure, the High Priestess Laelia, stands next to her, conferring with several of her acolytes. Dark-haired and ageless, clad in the simple but elegant white robe of her station, Laelia is both Priestess of the Unconquered Sun and Anthegenia's patron goddess, the Sun's Handmaiden, Vesperna.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

As the airships start arriving en masse, and the streets begin to fill up with excited festival goers, the Aerial Pavilion opens up for a limited audience. Only Exalted are allowed to land on the Aerial Pavilion, and only those with a means of flight, whether artificial or natural or shapeshifted. Anyone else who tries is gently but firmly refused by the winged ADF guard, and if need be escorted back toward the ground or an outer platform with a view.

Weapons are allowed to be carried by the Exalts, but any sudden and unexpected moves towards said armaments would quickly lead to a response from the stalwart guards -- or if need be, the Celestials accompanying Sophia. The rumors have been heard, whether the Princess wishes to acknowledge them or not, and while everyone is excited for the celebration there is an undercurrent of concern among the Anthegenians.

Luxurious, comfortable seating surrounds the Pavilion stage in a half-circle, where four of the City's VIPs now stand: Princess Sophia and High Priestess Laelia, General Ruby Falcon and the solemn Headmaster of the Academy, Lonan Ishmerai. Standing regally among her peers, Sophia adjusts her pectoral of resplendent speeches, and begins to address the Festival as a whole.

"I am overjoyed to welcome you, citizens of Anthegenia and honored guests from the five directions of Creation, to the Festival of Journeys Celebration of 3516! Before the festivities begin in earnest, High Priestess Laelia will lead our welcome to the guest of honor, Vanileth, Shogun of Artificial Flight, with prayer and grace. We will honor the Unconquered Sun, Maiden Mercury and the Goddess of this fair City, so that this day is smiled upon not only by the luminaries present today but the gods above as well."

OOC: All areas of the Festival can hear this. However I will not repost the text in every thread. :) There will be one more smaller wave of arrivals before the ceremonial portion starts.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

As Vanileth's vast skyreme comes into view, floating at reduced speed toward the Aerial Pavilion on Essence-powered turbines, High Priestess Laelia steps forward and activates her own pectoral. Sophia, Falcon and Lonan stand aside, giving room for her robed acolytes assemble to form a choir in a V formation, like wings opening outward with the Priestess at the center.

Laelia begins by facing toward Vanileth, extolling the virtues of his purview, which allows humans to touch the sky, triumph in aerial combat and exult in the glory of flight. In the name of Anthegenia and her guests, she gives thanks for every form of artificial flight, from the simplest kite and gliding harness, to the personal artifacts that give its wearers wings, to the panoply of flying ships that represent every nation present for today's Festival of Journeys, which would be greatly diminished without Vanileth's presence.

Both she and her choir activate their wings: Laelia's a pure white tinged with gold, while her choir members sprout Essence wings of every color of the rainbow. Together they rise, so they float high above the stage, and Laelia directs her gestures downward, toward the City. She gives praise to the Handmaiden of the Sun, for her beauty and her purity, for the flowers that are her gifts to the world, the morning glory and the daylily. She leads a hymn of Vesperna's blessing, which protects Anthegenia from the brightest and hottest rays of the Sun, from the fury of storms and lightning, from the enemies who would wish the City or her people harm.

For every cardinal direction of Creation, Laelia utters a prayer and leads an answering refrain for Mercury, the Maiden of Journeys. Here she praises not only aerial travel (North), but sailing upon the vast ocean (West), crossing sand dune and savannah (South), riding across grassy plains (East), and scaling the highest of mountains (Center). Though Vanileth provides the means of flight, the Journey between one point and the next is guided by the Maiden's own hand, Laelia proclaims, and thus everyone present today is Her passenger. She asks that Mercury watch over the races and demonstrations today so that they are both safe and fair.

Then High Priestess Laelia's face tilts up toward the rising Sun, her arms spread wide as her wings hold her steadily aloft. Her paean for the Unconquered Sun is one of the peaks of the ceremony, rising from alto to glorious soprano as her choir serves as harmonic accompaniment. Her golden anima blossoms in an array of sun-touched lilies as she glorifies the Celestial body that Exalted her, for without Him shining over Gaia there would be no light or warmth on Creation; all plants would wither and all life and vitality would fade; all those who mean ill for Creation would grow strong in the shadow of His absence!

In conclusion, the Priestess floats back down to the stage, and returns her attention to Vanileth. With words both humble and gracious she prays that the city, nay, all of Creation flourishes from his generosity, and expresses hope that with his continued guidance the technology he has gifted them will continue to progress in leaps and bounds, so that all mortals, Exalt or otherwise, may navigate the skies in his name.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Mattel landed on the pavilion just in time for High Priestess Laelia's opener. He remained still in his human form. Personally he felt as if she over did it. But Mattel could only guess how he might be if he were ever a high priest of such important area. But then again... he would never be in that position. He tried to keep his thoughts from wondering. It was a great prayer. He needed to focus on what was in front of him. Prayer was very important for the gods she mention.

As she concluded the student looked around for his mate. He could feel he was close and he didn't want to dissappoint him further.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Thalia had held off at a respectable distance, waiting for the prayers to be completed, rather than landing in the middle of them.  This was a choice born of both respect for the prayers being uttered, and more practical concerns of an arrival going unnoticed.  Once they were over though, she alighted.

She was not flying in a skyship today, having made the relatively short trip from her residence on the flying city to the festival under her own power.  Or at least, under the power of the wings she had made.  The wings themselves were a sight to behold.  Each was made from one hundred and one feathers.  Each of the feathers was forged from a single flame, and to those with keen sight, it was clear that no detail had been spared.  Each of the feathers had a central spine, from which myriad tiny strands of flame had been drawn off to complete the pattern.  Whilst most of the flames burned red, a most pleasing pattern on each wing had been formed by the introduction of alchemical reagents into the flame, causing them to burn in different, vivid colours.  Each is mounted to the gossamer frame of orichalcum by a cunning clasp, apparently made from two pieces of ruby somehow twisted around each other.  After a brief stretch--to settle them from landing, and not to show them off, of course--they folded onto her back, where they fitted snugly.

The flame-and-gems motif extended to her dress.  Opals, rubies and diamonds--somehow teased out into threads finer than the finest silk--had been combined into a figure hugging dress which seemed to be made of a single flame which shimmered with each step she took.  Picked out in a delicate embroidery of flame-thread was a rose which coiled around her body to bloom over her left breast.  Next to the rose blossom, there is a broach.  The broach is in the abstract ideal of the orchid, sketched out in fine strands of orichalcum, every strand perfectly, beautifully, placed.  Stockings of smoke covered her legs, obsidian heels clicking on the decking of the pavilion.

Around her neck was orichalcum necklace, again based around a flame motif with each jewel trapped in a cage of golden flame, which sported no fewer than three hearthstones.  A forth hung from a charm bracelet around her left wrist.  The whole outfit was set off by the Orichalcum clasp which held her hair in a tight curl and the brilliant orange chrysanthemum blossom which was pinned to it.  Another stone is visible under the blossom.

Thalia made her way towards the watching Princess and her companions.  "Greetings to you on this most auspicious day.  You are looking well today, Sophia," she said, as she kissed her friend on the cheeks.  "And you, Lonan," a momentary hesitation as she briefly considered the etiquette of kissing one's current employer, before he too received the friendly kisses.  "A masterful prayer you offered, Laelia," acknowledging the skill of an artisan of a different field to her own with a respectful inclination of her head.  "And well met, Ruby Falcon," giving the man a brief kiss on just one cheek.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Circling the Pavilion once after the prayer has finished, Wave dives straight out of the air and alights on a free patch of ground with a flick at the last moment to tumble forward and land on her feet, the wings splaying out to kiss the ground as she gives the procession a deep bow. With all the essence woven into her outfit and wings, she was hard to miss as if a second sun had fallen out of the sky with the warrior woman playing the role of it's heart.

"A warm welcome to you all. I am Wave Crashes Against the Rocks and am honoured to be among such company." she says with her voice heavy with respect. So many older exalts together was intimidating, no matter what efforts you'd taken to stop yourself being shown up.

Aligning herself to give a second low bow to Laelia, "That was beautiful, I hope one day I too might have such a gift with speech." she continues in a more conversational tone her wings curling up around her back, shielding all but the handle of her sword from sight, which stuck above them as if her personal banner.

Clematis watched Mattel arrive. He maintained a good distance quite sure the lunar would notice him. It was suprising Mattel didn't notice him sooner. The elder solar only guessed that Mattel was not paying attention to his surroundings as he should. He would have to teachn him another lesson about that soon. He could not have 'his' lunar mate going around oblivous to the enviroment.

Becoming impatient after the prayer Clematis headed towards Mattel. But as he did he noticed a beautiful solar stunning arrival to the pavilion. "I must meet her" he thought and said out loud in a soft whisper. He approached her from behind but stopped short as she spoke to the high priestess. Even he knew to wait for her reply before introducing himself to the warrior sunchild.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Laelia only makes a slight bow to the comments and compliments. She appears to be a humble woman, despite the fact she is older than even the Princess, so 'showing up' anyone hasn't even crossed her mind. "Thank you," she replies to Thalia and Wave, her measured tone conveying an equal amount of respect regardless of age. "However the true worth of my prayer will be judged by the gods that have heard it."

Without the golden aura blossoming around her, Laelia is once again a dark-haired woman in a white and gold-trimmed robe. Attractive, but no more so than half the Exalts at the Pavilion, and her relatively understated beauty is dwarfed by those who wing in from the parade grounds or private airships. The fact that she can armor herself with integrity despite this though, differentiating herself from her showy peers with serene, unconcerned dignity, allows her to stand out in her own way.

"Please enjoy the Festival, honored guests." With that she steps aside slightly, to allow the Princess and others their place to greet and welcome guests. As the Keeper of the Shield, the High Priestess so rarely speaks to her fellow Exalts -- and it suits her fine, not out of any sort of bashfulness, but simply because her duty is that much more important to her.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Sophia's face lights up to see Thalia show up at the prayer completion. She returns the friendly kisses with pleasure, and stops short of hugging her friend right then and there. They've yet to retire to a more private location, after all; she is still in her public function as Princess.

Most looking at Thalia and Sophia together should be able to tell that they know one another well. "I am well! And I am glad you have made it just in time. You look absolutely gorgeous," says Sophia with a warm smile. "And I will thank you for the personal advice on my dress as well." She steps back and twirls her sky-and-sunlight skirts, which while not as daringly eye-catching as Thalia's flames and smoke, suit the gentle, dignified Princess well.

Her expression shifts very slightly, then, seeing Anansi-magpie winging his way toward her from over Thalia's shoulder. Neither disgust nor disappointment, just a shared glance with the soon-to-be Craft Professor, some sort of secret passed between the two. The entire time Sophia's smile does not slip. "Do excuse me, I've a few more words to say to those gathering. And Shogun Vanileth shall be arriving shortly, as well."

For every guest that arrives and presents themselves to her personally, the Princess gives kind words of welcome and an appropriate bow for their comparative station. Keeping track of such details is a monumental task in and of itself, but Sophia shoulders that responsibility well.

- "Honored members of Anthenegia's staff, Beautiful Priesstess Laelia, Respected Lord Vanileth whose godly purview is the inspiration for my engineering projects. I send my regards in this way since I have no opportunity to leave this important post safeguarding the artifacts Professor Mitsumi and I created to honor our special guest. Just as the high priestess finished addressing the bright and beautiful female warrior, Clematis swooped in as dashing as one with his age could manage. Surely any mortal woman would need to change at such a move. But this woman was an exalt surely she had been approached on this level before. At least that is waht Clematis thought.

Almost at a deep bow. "May I know thy name of such angelic beauty? For I am Clematis, failed diplomat, tried and true warrior, and a general of the Deliberative's army."

The man was clearly pooring it on. His entourage had all followed suit making a small situation a bigger one.

"I try," she said with a pleased smile, at both the complement and the thanks.  She returns the glance with a single, elegant quirk of her eyebrow, almost unnoticeable, before she nods.  "Of course, do not let me detain you, I'm sure we can find the time to talk later," she stepped back a little to allow the princess to perform her duties.

"Welcome," she said to the young warrior queen.  There is a momentary flicker on her face as her eyes note the amulet at the heart of the Solar's garb.  Distaste?  Whatever it was, it passes quickly and her smile is warm and friendly.  "I am Thalia.  A very impressive pair of wings," she said, indicating the glowing crystalline pinions.  "I don't recognise the maker though.  Your own work?"

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Wave was not at all used to being fawned over. Doted on of course, but this was something entirely new and unexpected. She'd prepared for being treated with discreet, polite but not entirely unnoticeable lecturing on her place and mild interest. Clematis' approach had all but blind-sided her and it took a lot of her resolve to not stand in silent shock where she was. That the man was a General made it all the worse as conflicting interest totally snarled her train of thought.

In an effort to regain her poise quickly, she cleared her mind and set it back on  the task of mingling. Managing a faint smile for the General she speaks with her usual, unshakable confidence "It'd be a pleasure to introduce myself to you Clematis. Wave Crashes Against The Rocks, Queen of Ashanti and bearer of its blade, as well as a student here at the Academy. If I may be so bold I must say I've heard much about you, your marshalling in Operation Wyld Hand was of particular interest to me. I only wish I could have been there to see it all for myself, no matter how florid the words, they never seem to do it justice in my mind."

At Thalia's inquiry she unfurls one of the wings wrapped around her blade in a glowing haze with a spreading of an arm and draws a hand over the smooth crystal "This was made by Artisans from Nyunda, both an unique piece and a recent acquisition. I've yet to apply myself to crafting wonders like these.

Sighing she draws it back in by thought alone, the crystals ringing with a soothing chime as they cut through the air "Sadly with so much I hope to do it may well be some time yet before I produce my first."

Clematis stood fully after Wave Crashes Against The Rocks response. His boyish charm cleamed with pride. Before continuing to talk with the younger solar he faced the high priestess.

"I'm sure the gods heard you prayer and we shall all recieve their blessing. It is truly an honor to be in the presence of true expression of our feeling to those who facilitate what many take for granted." For those who knew him, he was actually being humble and sincere.

Turning his attention back to Wave Crashes Against The Rocks he continued.

"Your manners are impressive for one so young. My recent experiences with students would lead me to believe that the Headmaster neglected to add "How to act like a celestial exalt" to the curriculum." He pauses and changes his tone while completely ignoring Princess Sophia's presence.

"I look forward to standing side by side to you in battle. And if you were to need a favor, you but only ask and I shall do what I can. Now if you should excuse me, I shall leave you to enjoy the festival."

Turning in his precise militaristic fashion, he departed off towards Mattel.

Lord-Captain Anansi recoalesces into human form within inches of Princess Sophia, clasping her hand and drawing her close to him. The Princess shares a chaste kiss with him, enveloped in the folds of his navy blue cloak, then steps apart from him, barely touching her husband's white-gloved fingertips. "Miss me?" he murmurs into Sophia's ear, before allowing the Princess her space.

Eyes of deep amber meet the gaze of the Anthegenian officials and nearby visitors, while Anansi's head of silver hair dips in acknowledgment of them. To Lonan he quirks an meaningful eyebrow, and to Desus (already starting to make his rounds through the gathered Exalts) he gives a nonchalant smile, while Laelia, Thalia and Wave are greeted with a sweeping bow and - should they allow it - a gentlemanly kiss on the hand. "Of course, do not let me interrupt you, ladies," says the Lord-Captain, stepping aside as Thalia continues to engage Wave in conversation.

Ahh, festivals. Interesting things always happen when so many Exalts are gathered together. It just so happens that Anansi is headed toward Mattel just as Clematis is going the same way, which diverts his initial greeting in favor of seniority. "Good festival morning to you, Clematis, I hope your visit has been satisfactory thus far."

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Desus cannot help but draw eyes to every move and gesture he makes. His affable-bordering-on-devilish charm is already working its magic. He sweeps through the area and acknowledges every Exalt present whether young or old - brushing his lips on ladies' knuckles, shaking gentlemens' hands vigorously, clapping shoulders or cuffing arms of his better-known colleagues. Thalia, Sophia and even Wave experience first hand the perfectly balanced blend of gallantry and respect with which he treats all women, and every man from Lonan to Clematis to a reluctant Anansi find his overtures of gentlemanly, good-sporting cooperation extended to them, one way or another.

As for Desus' companion, Lilith, he goes through great pains to introduce her as his lovely, devoted wife. All who see them together understand that she is, all his, while the beauty with short dark hair willingly follows his lead. Many have seen the enchanting Lilith in battle, and fellow Lunars admire her for her enduring strength and dedication, but with her husband she is as supple or as fierce as he wants her to be, a predator graciously allowing the limelight to him. She glitters on his arm, a gown made of pure white feathers and points of shimmering crystal sheathing her lithe, muscular form.

Wave wasn't out to rub people up the wrong way, not today anyway, so while she rather liked Clematis candour a polite smile and a nod at the suggestion of fighting together was all that came forth before he abruptly left. For Desus she returns the offer of co-operation eagerly. While she'd heard of Clematis through rumour and study, you couldn't ignore the most famous couple in Creation if you tried. He had many people to meet, so she was brief, perhaps there'd be time later for a longer talk. A sentiment she noticed was beginning to apply to everyone she met, such is the power of an old enough exalt that they ooze intrigue from every pore.

At Thalia's comment she waves a hand dismissively "No need to apologise, its good to hear a professional opinion on its quality. Especially from you, I may not be the most voracious consumer of fashion but I've still heard that your work is famous for being both unique and exotic."

Tugging her own clothes, spun form pure essence she smiles "Perhaps not the most original idea to ever be worn, but I couldn't resist trying it at least once. Perhaps if I was to find a designer who could imbue clothes with such a display I could have bought something more tangible, but time was short and the options innumerable to someone not so experienced with the choices as me. As for classes to being making my own creations? They'll be waiting for a while, I've a lot to concentrate on already. Perhaps as I begin to comfortably excel at a few of my caste's chosen professions I'll expand into it.

Serene Orchid touched down on the Pavilion. Almost immediately, her Windblade Class Personal Transport reverted to an glittering Orichalcum amulet and she tucked it into her sleeve.

She wore an cerulean blue silk robe ornately embroidered with white and silver clouds and delicate, stylized birds in gold with long, flowing sleeves. Artfully placed sapphires and diamonds sparkled as she moved. Beneath that she wore several robes in shades of blue and gold that peeked out beneath the hem and sleeves of her over-robe. Her white hair was arranged in an ornate confection of curls and braids, held in place with delicate sapphire, diamond, and gold pins and an Orichalcum amulet glittering amidst the curls. Her slippers were gilded leather, stamped with the same stylized birds as her gown and glittering with a few artfully placed sapphires and diamonds. Her festival wear was completed by delicate Orichalcum at her throat, wrists, ankles, and gold, sapphire and diamond jewelery on her ears and several fingers.

Moving with almost inhuman grace, she approached Sophia, bowed and she murmured, "It is a joy to see you well."

Many other important guests have already flocked aboard, such as high-profile politician Tammiz Ushun, elegant in a formal multi-layered robe of yellow-gold, white and purple trimmed with threads of starmetal. The attractive, pale-haired man appears to be personally familiar with Lonan, as he joins the Headmaster after a generous bow to Sophia.

Virtuous Jacinth, Queen of High Nyunda, offsets tanned skin and dark red hair with a gown of rare saffron blending into a blush orange distilled from the hue of a desert rose, inspired not by elemental flame but by the hues of sunset. She and her mate, Joyous Agile Bat - clad in a twilight blue and luminous white outfit that compliments her bright outfit perfectly - make their rounds of greetings as a couple, though not nearly as instantly recognizable as Desus and Lilith.

Queen Amayana of Luthe wears a gown of seafoam encrusted with ocean pearls and mirror-like beads of crystallized perfect water, glittering like dew in the morning light. She arrives without her husband, Grand Admiral Kendik Arkadi, as he is overseeing Western training exercises, but she is happy enough to greet Princess Sophia as a treasured friend.

Signifier of Peaceful Victory, aerial race and gambling mogul, is garbed in a suit of white and sky blue velvet and enough orichalcum baubles to tip the scales toward gaudy. Everyone knows he is here for the races first and foremost, but he greets his hosts and fellows with impeccable courtesy and grace, offsetting his fashion faux pas for all but the strictest of critics.

There are others as well, whether partners or friends of others present, younger Celestials or Terrestrials of significant rank, everyone as well-dressed as they can afford and eager to be recognized.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

When the prayer is completed, Lona likewise joins in praising the High Priestess for her efforts, although his words remain private to her. Whatever he said looks pleasing to Laelia, however, as the two exchange a few more words in a manner that shows their mutual acquaintance with one another.

When Thalia steps in, even the Headmaster seems to drop his usual veneer of stoicism for a moment, smiling slightly and embracing her welcome. He holds the new professor's hands for a moment, bowing his head politely before speaking. "Thank you for answering our call so quickly, Thalia." Lonan says, his voice betraying his gratitude. "It is good to see you again - I dare hope your travels went well and we are not keeping you from your own business too much. It is a pleasure having you on the roster this season."

As warm as the welcome is - for the usually severe Headmaster, in any case - it has to be cut a bit short as well, as Lonan steps in with Sophia to take the time to greet the new arrivals properly. He does not hold political power in Anthegenia per se, as it is the realm of the Princess and her potential heirs, but having held the position of Headmaster of the Academy of Celestial Learning for several centuries has made his name associated with the glorious floating city nonetheless. Whether or not this made him famous or infamous depends on the social circle, of course.

Lonan does make certain to properly greet Lord-Captain Madeen, showing him the proper respect as husband of the Princess and loyal scion of Anthegenia. He also makes certain to personally greet Professor Serene Orchid when she reaches the pavilion, welcoming her among them and seeming glad to see her here.

The following moments seem almost a blur of greetings and welcomes as more guests reach the pavilion, and Lonan seems to continue to exchange pleasant words with Tammiz Ushun all throughout. Despite the pleasantness of the event, however, the Headmaster's eyes seem to continually scan the proceedings carefully, as if overseeing the good development of the event...

Before Orchid's arrival is another whirlwind of greetings for Sophia, including a lengthy one from Desus who expertly praises Anthegenia and its Academy as he bows and takes the Princess' hand. He either has an exceptional memory or researched well on the location before arriving. Either way, it is difficult not to be impressed. Sophia has her own reasons to be cautious around the man, but his seemingly earnest expressions of friendship and interest make it difficult to find an avenue with which to pin suspicion on him besides the usual "He's Desus" argument.

Sophia makes sure to greet Lilith equally, of course, as she does the monarchs of Nyunda and Luthe, both of them women that have become good friends over the seasons. Should Thalia have a free moment, Sophia would happily introduce Queen Jacinth and Queen Amayana to her as well - whether for the potential connections, or to later negotiate a high profile commission, is up to the Eminent Weaver herself.

Then the Princess once again welcomes a local colleague, as Serene Orchid presents herself at the Pavilion. "I am pleased to see you, Serene Orchid, you look wonderful. We are all at our best this Festival day."

OOC: 12-16 hours from this posting ought to be Vanileth's arrival, hopefully will be enough for people to react to this mess of arrivals (or decide to just be passive)

Finally, the thousand-forged dragon's apparent owner takes her place among politicians and royalty. Unlike the majority of her peers, she has eschewed gowns and ornamentation for a mighty Celestial Battle Armor crafted of pure orichalcum. Forged on the breastplate is the insignia of a General of the Deliberative Army. In her heavy armor she salutes rather than bows for the Princess, her entourage and her guests, then nods sharply to Clematis and to Ruby Falcon, her closest equivalents in military rank. Those familiar with the military would know her as Exceedingly Radiant Horizon, Tamer of Blades, Bearer of the Golden Bridle, and so forth. Horizon is her first title, though, and her best known.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

"Not too much for friends as old as yourselves, Lonan" Thalia said in reply to Lonan.  "I'm quite looking forward to it, if I'm being honest," she said as they parted ways once more.

Thalia smiles at the compliment to both her work and her opinions on such matters.  "The duties to one's Caste should come first," Thalia agreed.  The conversation was briefly interrupted then, to allow the Lord-Captain Madeen to brush his lips across her smoke-clad knuckles.  Whilst she still hadn't entirely forgiven him for the pain he had caused Sophia, so very long ago now, she was not so cross at him as to refuse his gesture of greeting.  The brush of his lips would reveal the origin of the smoke, a fragrant and pleased blend of many incenses.  "But if you do want a guide through the perilous world of fashion, perhaps I might know someone who could help you," she continued, after the captain had departed.  The statement was accompanied by a sparkle in her eyes, extending an invitation for such advice to the young Dawn.  Her words on the Infinite Resplendence Amulet had pleased the Weaver.  "Though for the moment, I will stop monopolising you and let you meet and greet the others present.  It was a pleasure to meet you, Waves Crashes Upon The Rocks."

"Ah, Lord Desus, Lady Lilith, you cut a fine couple today," Thalia greeted both of them and showing her approval for their outfits, allowing Desus her hand.  She speaks with the pair of them a short while, talking fashion with Lilith and trade with Desus, before the pair continue on their circuit of meeting and greeting.  Thus do the greetings go, Thalia offering smiles and small words to almost everyone who approached her and who she approached.  She seems to have a perfect memory for names and faces, not hesitating even when naming those she has not seen in decades.

She can and does find time for the Monarchs of Nyunda and Luthe both when Sophia is so kind as to introduce them.  She spends a short while conversing with them, on matters of fashion and other things, hoping to arrange a longer conversation for later in the festival, when time is not so pressed.  Then she moves on, to continue her greetings.

Mattel is tunned at the arrival of so many of the worlds greatest champions. He was also proud of his friend and solar mate Clematis for showing up this year. Personally he didn't request his attendance. However it did make things easier with so many other elders around. Despite the arrival of so many celebraties, the student remained calm. It almost all changed as the Lord Anansi Madeen began to walk his way.

The lunar ensured his posture was perfect when the Princess Sophia's husband approached him and his mate.

Clematis smiled politely at Mattel at the acknowledgment of their bond. But he did not have time for such things. His peers were here and if Mattel showed too much weakness, he would make him better later. Just as he completed the thought the Lord Captain Madeen approached and spoke to him.

"My visit to the city has been weel thus far. There have been few dissappointments. But I trust a professor or two will fix the underlying but minor issues. But other than that things are well. I am most proud of Mattel and his growth. I have made arrangements for him to lead a special project for me when he graduates."

Clematis was bursting with pride and a little bit of humility with the Captain so close. He took the pause after his response to give a nod to the Tamer of Blades and shit eating grin to Desus that said, "You ole dawg".

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Vanileth's carrier dominates the airspace nearby the Pavilion, the orca-shaped ship hovering serenely in place. The escort warbirds bank away from the carrier's flanks, spiraling up toward a high point with an impressive display of control before righting themselves in unison, breaking the sound barrier as they pass over the Pavilion. As if sensing a challenge in the speeding formation, the thousand-forged dragon owned by Radiant Horizon roars loudly in defiance!

A hatch at the front of the large, yet seemingly feather-light ship opens up to reveal a hangar decorated formally with silky blue and yellow banners and glittering winged emblems of jade, enchanted steel and gemstones. Several winged silhouettes begin to emerge, to the sound of a brass fanfare trumpeting from within...

Rather than extending a bridge, the figures fly out from the hangar by the power of their own spirit-given wings. Chief among them is Shogun Vanileth, a beautiful man of great stature with pale azure skin and brilliant white hair. Holding him aloft are three pairs of iridescent wings made of articulated plates and shifting gears, the joints accented by brilliant opals, diamonds and topaz. His robes and sash are crafted of layers of arctic wind woven into cloth, sparkling with ice crystals and subtle, shifting patterns, like snowflakes caught in a swirling breeze.

The half dozen lesser spirits flocking him appear like a mix of bird and human, with a single pair of clockwork wings and an avian head, on a humanoid body covered with metallic feathers that serve as both plumage and armor. Each of them appears like a different species of bird, all of them noted for excellent powers of flight.

Vanileth and his entourage cross the space between the hangar and the Pavilion at a processional pace, welcomed aboard the platform by the winged ADF guards. The armored Dragon-bloods stand on either side of the main aisle and salute, then one by one thrust their spears into the air so that they cross above the heads of the Shogun and spirit servants. Beneath the arch of jade weaponry, the guest of honor approaches the stage where Princess Sophia, High Priestess Laelia, General Falcon and Headmaster Ishmerai await, while Laelia's choir and the people of the air bow their heads in reverence.

"Marvelous, absolutely marvelous," says Vanileth in a sweet, almost androgynous voice, as he steps up the dais to greet the Princess personally. "Princess Sophia, Priestess Laelia, I am quite pleased by the prayer and the presentation thus far. It is only fitting that so many outstanding examples of of aerial flight technology crown the shining city of Anthegenia today." He turns to address the guests as well, every one of them garbed in artificial wings, or owners of mighty skyships. "Thank all of you for coming. May the Festival of Journeys continue to delight and astound."

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

"The pleasure is ours, Shogun Vanileth," Sophia replies after a formal bow to the Celestial god, her tiara glittering as she dips her head. "Without your continued guidance, this City would not fly, nor would the incredible machines your technology has helped us create. We as a society owe you much, and this Festival is but one way we can express it."

Priestess Laelia steps forward and echoes Sophia's bow. "All of us without nature or magic to carry us would be grounded without your blessing, Shogun. It is we who would thank you for your continued patronage." If she were not addressed, she may not have spoken at all, so humble is she compared to her peers - strange behavior indeed for one of her age and stature.

While Vanileth is absorbed in greeting the other Celestial luminaries present, Sophia reactivates her pectoral to address the Festival at large. "Celebrants and visitors gathered today, Shogun Vanileth has heard our prayers and is pleased to bless us with his presence. Let us now commence the festivities with a parade in honor of Journeys and Flight!" As she speaks this, several flares of blue and yellow sparkles are fired from various points in the city, signaling the parade to begin.

"We will soon present an aerial demonstration of our finest Artimisia warbird/striders, led by Air Marshal Iblis Sanguinus, followed closely by the Festival Races. On behalf of the Royal Crown of Anthegenia, the Defense Force and the Academy of Celestial Learning, I wish you all a wonderful Festival day!"

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

"Ah, am I late, then? I do suppose it couldn't be helped, but one does so like to be punctual..." Closing her parasol, she daintily steps onto the surface of the pavilion, looking about her with an air of delighted surprise. "Oh, but manners! Lord Vanileth; Princess Sophia; Headmaster Lonan, I presume? I do so love what you've done with this place. One would've visited sooner, but you know how it is and all..."

Behind her hovers in a rather... well. Carefully-blank-of-face Goldfinch, who greets everyone with a tiny kitten on his shoulder. At the least, he seems to know full well how it was, and also that this was very definitely not his show. Clematis gets a quick, cursory glance; Mattel gets a knowing-and-almost-sympathetic look. So, hover around being unnoticeable, that's the key.

"...and I really have to thank you for taking care of my boy. Goldfinch!"

Ah, apparently not.

Terrifyingly cheerful, Peregrine loves everything and greets everyone; she also, apparently, knows everyone, and is more than happy to keep up a steady stream of chatter about most anything at all. Desus is hailed as an old friend, and gets alternatively grilled and teased about his latest high-profile heroics ("Honestly, I can't log into I AM without seeing your mug all over!"), teased about Lilith ("Oh, and I heard a little something... about a little bird? Hmm?"), and relentlessly reminiscent-ed at, while Thalia gets a thorough discussion about fashion which first drifts into Essence replication methods and, later, into varied Twilit affairs. Everyone involved with the Academy also gets (very gently) questioned about how Goldfinch is doing; she's very obviously interested in the going-ons of her son.

Who is generally, at the moment, being dragged around like a minor trophy.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Desus and Lilith complete their rounds with the guests. He seems to be in an excellent mood, indulging anyone who wishes to have a few moments of conversation with him or his wife, passing out compliments like candy. While others choose to hold their conversations more quietly, especially as Vanileth makes his approach, Desus pleasantly laughs and banters at whatever volume he thinks is appropriate.

When Thalia takes her turn conversing with the star couple, she quickly finds that she's out of her league in terms of trade knowledge. "If it's traded hands, I've had some say in it," he quips; the worst part is that the statement is quite possibly true, given his long, illustrious life. As Desus isn't out to compete with Thalia, and is rather enchanted by her lovely appearance, he offers to speak with her more later, perhaps hand out some choice advice for an "upcoming star."

Lilith isn't much for the fashion talk, though she understands on a purely practical level why appearances and impressions are so important. The dark-haired Lunar is a dichotomy of quiet strength and surprising kindness who takes pride in being well-dressed and well-spoken, if only because it makes Desus proud of her. Nonetheless, she is a warrior before a courtier, and would be more engaged in talk of combat prowess, than fashion shows.

The couple does not miss the chance to speak to Vanileth when the time comes. It's mostly Desus talking, and mostly small talk with a few choice, whispered words that has Vanileth in a daze. At the end of it, he shakes the deity's hand and says rather nonchalantly, "Oh, and if I win the prize at the Races, I'll hand it out at the banquet." As for Peregrine's late arrival, Desus takes it in stride, chuckles at every joke she makes about both himself and Lilith (even at Lilith's expense), and needles her gently about her latest pet projects (glance at poor Goldfinch).

Then Desus kisses Lilith on the mouth. "Mingle, love. I've got something to attend to. If you will excuse me, Shogun, Princess, old friends and all." When he passes Clematis, Desus winks back with a grin of his own. Then he leaps off the Pavilion, winging away on his white-golden wings toward the race signups.

"Good to hear it," Anansi says to Clematis as he speaks of his impressions of the Academy and Mattel, but briefly breaks off conversation when Vanileth approaches. "Welcome to Anthegenia, Shogun Vanileth. It'd be an understatement to say I owe you, if only because flying is both my love and my livelihood."

After trading a few words about the Invierna, and inviting the Shogun to fly in the bird of mercurial ice - or at least watch her in action - the handsome silver-haired Captain extends a greeting to Peregrine Altair. The requisite compliments at her beauty are also, of course, included. "It's rare the spark passes to both parent and child, you must be inordinately proud of your son. I hope to see you at the banquet, Lady Peregrine." Terrifyingly cheerful Peregrine may be, but Anansi is unfazed; he rather enjoys conversing with those who aren't too caught up in etiquette to loosen up at least once in a while!

Finally back to Clematis and Mattel. "Excuse the interruption. As I was saying, it's good to hear that you're putting your trust in Anthegenia and its Academy. At times the Deliberative considers us a black sheep, but Academy graduates have gone on to do great things. Serene Orchid is but one example." Anansi points out the well-dressed, pale-haired woman that has recently taken up teaching Bureaucracy at the Academy.

"I do hear Mattel is doing well in his studies, if at times in unconventional ways."

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Welcomes and greetings for Vanileth are passed from all around, though not everyone gives the same amount of attention to him, guest of honor or not.

Tammiz Ushun continues speaking quietly with Lonan when he is not busy with other guests. Whatever they speak of appears outwardly mild-mannered, and is heard by no one but them.

Jacinth and Amayana are pleased to converse with Thalia, the former extending an invitation for "such a good friend of Sophia" to visit High Nyunda and enjoy the hospitality of the South, the latter speaking of uniform design and the woes of having a home that doubles as a military compound. They pause to give respects to Vanileth, as is appropriate. While Jacinth and Vanileth chat briefly about alternate methods of propulsion, Amayana is left with whomever will listen to her (perhaps Thalia, Sophia or Peregrine), talking animatedly about Admiral Leviathan and how much he has done for Luthe.

Radiant Horizon is standoffish and proudly so, statuesque in her golden Celestial armor. The only person she seems interested talking to right now is Ruby Falcon, maybe Clematis, though now and then her gaze flicks curiously toward the few younger Exalts that dared brave the Pavilion.

Signifier and Vanileth are apparently familiar enough with one another to address informally, but the gaudily dressed Solar does not linger at the Pavilion long. "I've my own platform with a better view of the Races, you are welcome to join me." Accompanied by a pair of people of the air, he steps off the platform and flies toward another aerial location.

Sweeping in from a high arc of flight, a great white Strix floats down, passing the ADF guards after the flicker of a Full Moon Castemark identifies the latest arrival. Just before landing, the creature shifts back into the robed and masked form of Truth, as he steps forward as if he'd been walking all along, gently tugging at part of his azure blue sash to ensure it has not somehow become dislodged.

He favors the perimeter of the converted Platform, speaking a few polite words to various attendees of mid level importance. He skirts the larger stage and its entourage of Creation shattering personalities with great care, though he finds it almost impossible not to settle his large yellow eyes on the elegant and proud Horizon, clad in armor both crafted for beauty and for its terrible destructive power. That feeling again, pulls at his heart, but there are no memories to grasp, no echo..just instinct and a deep fundamental connection to the General he does not understand.

He rubs his stubble thoughtfully, but doesn't pursue that topic much further, mostly because he'll start to draw attention to them and that would be rude and uncomfortable, wouldn't it? "As for unconventional means, I thoroughly meant that as a compliment." And there's the cue for Anansi's smile, directed at Mattel. Not Desus devilish, only Desus could do that - but approving and mysterious all the same.

"And yet if you care about your 'peers' and their reactions at all, you will desist now, Clematis." The low, rumbling baritone that intoned these words can announce only one thing - either the conversation, Clematis' reaction, or both have managed to stir the venerable General Ruby Falcon to step closer and speak up. Dressed in full ceremonial uniform and wearing his sword at his belt, not even the joyous, festive nature of the Festival can erase the fact that the General is first and foremost a military leader - and the protector of Anthegenia's crown.

Quietly nodding to Anansi's apology and desire to withdraw, Ruby Falcon tunrs his piercing gaze back towards Clematis, his low voice continuing his thought. "This is no place for flaring tempers or unseemly displays. The Festival has been going smoothly, and everyone in attendance, including our guest of honor, seem to be having a pleasant time. See to it that it remains that way." The General nods, then turns to return to his place to the Princess' side, although not before turning back towards the obviously upset solar one last time before falling silent.

Meanwhile, toward the perimeter of the Pavilion...

Though the powerful Exalts take up a large amount of spotlight, there are others besides them on the platform. Evident Truth finds himself trading brief pleasantries with the likes of Instilled Fury, governor of Sal-Maneth, an Eastern city with strong ties to the Anthegenian Queen Artimisia; Professor Emeritus Cian Kyril of Sperimin, who asks Evident Truth why he chose Anthegenia over his august establishment; Azura Twice-Blessed, a Dragon-blooded person of the air who leads the council of Sezakan, and shows interest in Truth's origins; Snow Tempest, military strategist and recent overseer of the factory-cathedrals of Avalle.

Now Joyous Agile Bat, Jacinth's husband, engages Truth for a time in conversation, as he is quite comfortable with being second to his wife, and is friendly with everyone. He doesn't seem at all fazed by the mini-drama going on with Clematis, though his chatter is almost background noise for Truth, who cannot keep himself from gazing at General Horizon. "Are you interested in the General? She is as imposing as Ruby Falcon, they are colleagues, after all, but Radiant Horizon is a trusted Guardian of the Sword of Creation..."

Horizon herself has no qualms about gazing back, now that Ruby Falcon is preoccupied. The armored woman holds Evident Truth's gaze, and there's a strange look in her eyes, a knowing look. But she does not come to him, she only lifts her chin, and glances away - apparently checking on her thousand-forged dragon, perched so closely.

"It was very humble of the Lord Captain to apologize for a minor insult, even if he did initiate such a topic. You will find no enemies here. I think before you say or do anything else, you remember that."

As General Falcon spoke, Mattel could feel the tension flat line. His mate was sure to shut it now. But later the student was sure he would hear about it, over and over and over again.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Thalia had in no way intended to place herself as Desus' equal in trade, knowing that quite apart from his extensive skill in that arena, he also had the contacts and connections that only centuries of effort could develop.  Trade would only ever be a means to an end for her, not a passion.  So Desus' offer of some advice later is more or less all she was hoping for.  "My thanks for your kind offer, I shall see you later," she says as he bids his farewell.

The talk with Lilith didn't go quite so well, at least to start, although Thalia is not such a bore as to continue talking about something the other party does not care about nearly as much.  And she has little or no combat prowess of her own to speak of, her place not being on the battlefield.  It's a brief conversation, which ends on a further note of thanks to Desus for his offer, which should hopefully please the ancient Lunar at least somewhat.  Peregrine Altair allows her to make good her escape.

Beyond the welcome exit from the conversation with Lilith, the conversation with Peregrine is refreshing, as she tended to find with the ancient Solar.  It was always interesting to get her ideas on fashion--although they rarely saw entirely eye to eye--and the general state of all things Twilight.  Not that she spoke with her that often, generally restricted to times such as this.  In fact (somewhat unusually for a Solar of her age) Thalia still found that much of her interaction was filtered through her prior incarnation's recollections, probably because there were so many more of them.  She is fortunately saved from too much interrogation about Goldfinch when she points out that her teaching position is one she has very recently taken up.  She bids her a pleasant farewell.

Only a short conversation is exchanged with Vanileth, complimenting him on his appearance and on the precision of his escort's flying.  She engages him with a brief word about her latest flying commission, a Warbird for the Copper Tiger Nine Harmonious Blades.

"It would be my honour and delight to accept such an invitation," Thalia replied to the Queen of Nyuada, after the invitation was extended.  "We shall have to converse later when I have more of an idea of the demands of my teaching schedule," she clarified.  Some things, after all, were more important than royalty and responsibility was one of them.

"Uniforms, hmmm?" Thalia mused out loud with a thoughtful air, after extending her condolences for the necessity of a fortress home.  "They are not exactly my forte," she continued.  "Although ..." she considered further.  It would be challenging.  To design something like that which would fulfil her own demanding aesthetic standards whilst still being flexible enough to fit across a whole army and practical enough to be useful. Hmmmm.  This would be something to think about.

She had been entirely in ignorance of the affair between Leviathan and Amayana.  By the time the Queen had finished listing all the things he'd done for Luthe, Thalia was almost sure that there was something going on between them.  She would have been certain, but for a desire to make a measured judgement and the fact that this was the first time she'd met the Queen of Luthe in several decades...  Not that there was anything wrong in something going on.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Vanileth, flanked by his spirit subordinates at all times, pleasantly accepts all greetings and accolades. He is a spirit that has grown sure and complacent in his place in Creation. So long as he shares a strong relationship with the Celestial Exalted, it seems there is no limit to how powerful and essential to modern society the technology with which he built his title, reputation and influence will develop.

Of course Vanileth basks in it, though he does take care not to overdo his glowing satisfaction, lest a sensitive ego be offended by it. He is content enough to speak with the Celestial crafters, flight enthusiasts and magitech shipyard owners among the Pavilion guests. With Virtuous Jacinth he discusses the advantages of harnessing the extreme heat of the Elemental Pole of Fire as a power source. He is intrigued by Thalia's pursuit of beauty in every project, and the challenges of balancing aesthetic with flight excellence. He happily accepts Anansi's offer to fly in the Invierna, interested in the progress of its artificial intelligence and enchanted, shapeshifting liquid metal hull. He encourages Sophia to pursue methods of further fine-tuning Anthegenia's functions and efficiency.

The Shogun never tires of explaining his long, fruitful relationship with Anthegenia to younger Exalts. He was involved in a large part of the floating city's construction, from the first enchantment placed on the dragon-lines to the rise of the landmass that would become Anthegenia, a vast, artificially shaped piece of the Far East melded with magical material alloys drawn from all throughout Creation. Even he had been unsure it would be possible, but Firdaus and Artimisia had proven him wrong, and brought him countless prayers to his name with their feat. "Floating cities such as Anthegenia and High Nyunda are the absolute height of flight technology," Vanileth enthuses generously (leaving out Tzatli, but Bright Shattered Ice is not here, now is she?)

Only his brief but strange conversation with Desus seems to imbalance him slightly, but that moment is soon forgotten. The parade has begun, and with it, a special display for the Shogun, as Marek manipulates his model skyships to assemble, disassemble and reform, exhibiting the vast complexity of their construction. Finally he bows to the floating Professor and the Princess. "Your gift is a work of art and impeccable construction, and I shall accept it proudly."

Once the gifts were delivered Professor Marek mingled with the other Celestial Exalted in the platforms. He approached Professor Thalia, who he hadn't had the opportunity to speak with.

- "Good day of the sky Professor Thalia. I've heard you came to teach the arts of crafting at the academy. It's something we missed much after the last Professor went away and without instruction in the arts of crafting only one student had the knowledge to attend to magitech classes."

"Good day to you too on this blessed day, Professor Marek," she said with a smile, extending her hand to the professor.  Whether he choose to shake it or kiss it would be up to him.  "A very impressive demonstration you just put on, and a most pleasing arrangement of lights to accompany it.  Please also extend my congratulations to Professor Mitsumi, should you see her before I have a chance to introduce myself to her."

"It was that state of affairs," she says in reference to the lack of basic craft tuition, "which was important in my choice to take up the teaching post.  It would be a terrible shame if such advanced studies had to be passed by due to a lack of fundamentals.  It is something I hope to set right.  We should talk later on what it is we are both going to teach, so that our classes are complimentary rather than overlapping.  Although," she continued with a grin to show it was a joke, "I will also be doing my best to tempt people away from your magitech class as I will also be teaching a class on the art of constructing life itself."

[edit: clarifying which craft has the potential to overlap.  Biogenesis and magitech, not so much.]

Anansi listens to Mattel and watches the interplay between him and his mate with interest. Then he draws his gloved hands from his pockets, still empty of course. "Then we are in agreement that nothing untoward will happen here. I'm not much for fighting, you know, I would much rather not get blood all over my good clothes."

Pleased by Vanileth's belated acceptance of his invitation, Anansi decides this is a good time to leave Mattel and Clematis alone. He finds Lilith, who addresses him with a cool disinterest; wincing but far from defeated, he brings her a glass of Celestial wine as truce, and drifts elsewhere. For a time he joins his wife, and whispers something in Sophia's ear... far from sweet nothings, her face grows serious upon hearing it. But only for an instant.

Anansi doesn't dwell, though, knowing Sophia has many more people to speak with. He thinks of speaking to Thalia next, about some concerns with the Invierna he'd been meaning to ask her before her last excursion from the city. But Marek gets to her first, and Amayana has her ear, as well - juicy gossip, that, but not anything new.

Joyous Bat answers Evident Truth with a measure of surprise. "Oh, my, they really kept you cooped up in the offices that long? That seems extreme, even for a young Lunar in training... You must have had quite a prestigious predecessor." Glancing again between Truth and Horizon, some sort of realization dawns on his face, and he grows a touch paler. Still he smiles, not one to be easily intimidated by rumor, particularly when his own Queen is at least two millenia old...

"Well, you ought to be able to find out about the Sword of Creation now that you've the thinking power of I AM and the Anthegenian Library at your fingertips, so, there's no harm in telling you, hmm? The Sword of Creation is the fancy name for the Realm's defense grid, controlled by a shrine at the mouth of the Dawn River. It is without a doubt the most incredible and cataclysmic weapon of our time, capable of stirring up natural disasters and calling down horrific destruction from the sky." Bat himself has not even lived long enough to witness it in action, but shudders anyway, just from the recordings and written depictions he knows of. "General Horizon does not have the authority to control it--but she knows personally the man who does, and is a colleague of Hungry Birds, the strategist who commands the fortress built to guard the Sword."

"Ah yes, Radiant Horizon is a woman with an impressive resume. Though she was once a staunch member of the Militants, she gradually matured into a respected general and administrator. Particularly after the man who was her mate passed away..." He seems reluctant to mention said mate by name, or even at all. Still, he meets Truth's bright yellow eyes. "Does that relieve your curiosity, perhaps?"

With so many famous names in one place mingling, Wave does her best to keep up with the brisk exchanging of greetings and back and fore gossip but it was all at a pace she found dizzying and she soon began to get just a little frustrated at how brief it could all be. there was little time of course and decades of history between those present. Lillith herself was an attractive chance to speak to as one of the foremost warriors of the times and General Horizon one of the great strategists but she had other concerns sadly.

Satisfied she'd at least made an impact on a few people, the parade beginning meant she had places to be. Wave unfurls her wings and wafting them down hard launches into the air catching herself with a second swoop and streaming away essence ribbons giving her a trail as her wings slice through the sky.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Now that the parade is underway, and Sophia has extended her greetings to all who have come aboard the Pavilion, the Festival is off to a wonderful start.

That by no means indicates that the Princess has the leisure to relax slightly and enjoy the view, though. Whenever she can, she continues to engage her elders in conversation, from chatting with Amayana about husbands and duties, to a conversation with Lilith about RPCs in the East, to asking Radiant Horizon news about Meru. But she cannot ignore those with lesser reputations, for she still owes them greatly for their contributions and aid. She thanks Azura Twice-Blessed for her cooperation in bringing volunteers among the winged people to for the event; asks Snow Tempest about what she thinks of her new post in northern Avalle; praises Last Grain of Sand for the supply of Chiaroscuran glass used in Festival displays and City buildings.

Though the most famous luminaries in the Pavilion have several centuries on her in age, Sophia manages to hold her own. She is of course, greatly aided by the fact she has allies that have extended to her from the Anthegenian Founders, and through the Sidereal circle that guides and protects the City. But political maneuvering among these powerful figures is still dangerous - there are those who would want Anthegenia for themselves, or to manipulate the City in some way to their advantage.

Every time she is faced with this Sophia must ensure that her elders never believe that she is easily influenced or weak. They can deride her political stances, or consider the causes she champions as useless or obsolete, but she holds true to her beliefs and loyalty to her city and people... just as Lonan taught her.

And if you lack any flash of memory of your previous self... then perhaps even the gods must fear what you were."

The dark-haired Lunar takes a deep breath, then straightens up his shoulders and utters, "He was called With Hands of Blood."

Mattel's face lit up with a suprised look. He didn't know this man was at the academy. Perhaps they would become friends. He shook his hand back while returning his glare with a blank stoic expression he was so used to. Perhaps he was establishing dominance. He shook off the notion.

"I'm sorry. I still get your name. From Meru you say. I'm sure this city will be shadowed by the prestige of creations capitol. But as you have already found, there is much to be seen here."

Mattel looked around for a second.

"Speaking of the Sifu, I hav not seen her. Perhaps she is throwing batons into unexpecting citizens." Mattels chuckles as he rubs his left forearm. With a sly grin he continued. "My style is still developing. Congradulations on gaining the sifu's approval to be her approval. With that, I could only assume you are an advanced student?"

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

The Sifu is indeed not here. One would assume from her usual demeanor that she isn't the type to spend time at festivals.

High Priestess Laelia seems to be of similar taste. The unusually humble Zenith starts to politely disengage from conversations as the festivities come into full swing. "I must return to the temple," she says apologetically, bowing to the gathered Exalts. Surrounded by her choir members, she smiles and allows those who wish it to disperse into the Festival proper, while she herself returns to her ceaseless duties.

Some say that Laelia has never slept a second since taking on the duty of maintaining Anthegenia's Shield. Nor has she once complained for these duties, though once she had been free to travel all of Creation, and love whom she would.

Hardly anyone notices her quiet departure, besides of course Ruby Falcon and the guards, whose duty is to be mindful of all traffic. The Exalted, both visitors and Anthegenian officials, continue to mingle (in Lilith's case, by request), sipping drinks and sampling appetizers passed along by winged servants.

Joyous Agile Bat inclines his head to Evident Truth, and to Mattel when he comes by. Whatever has sparked his earlier nervous reaction seems to have faded, though the quality of the wine helps as well. "Indeed Meru is many times the size and glory of the cities of the sky. But the technology and sheer power required to keep a vessel as vast as Anthegenia or High Nyunda aloft is astounding. To celebrate it with such splendor as we do today, is only fitting." The rest of the conversation is more appropriate to students, so Bat does not interrupt.

Lilith only bothers to speak with other Celestials, and mostly Solars, seeming reluctant to make close contact with certain Lunars (her interactions with Snow Tempest, for example, are downright frosty). She has since approached Radiant Horizon, and they speak politely for a time, Lilith showing a measure of deference toward the armored woman.

Gliding on wings of silver light, the massive shape of Keo's wolverine warform approached one of the landing platforms where he could finally board the Aerial Pavilion.

Carrying in his arms his Solar mate and her familiar, the Lunar gently put her on the ground, making sure that they did not trip and fall. Then, he seemingly melted, his feather-patterned clothing and jewelry reappearing in lieu of fur and claws, the Essence-focusing gems on his moonsilver Transcendent Phoenix Pinions still carrying the embers of a silver fire. "There we are," he smiled at Rana, gently patting Arya's head. It was fortunate that the familiar was considerably more intelligent than a typical member of his species, else the flight would have been... problematic.

Hoping that their arrival had not drawn more attention than he would have welcomed, Keo looked around the Pavilion, trying to determine if any of his acquaintances was there.

Glancing around again, she smiled brightly and then blushed, belatedly realizing just how full of important people the platform was.

However young and unschooled in matters of etiquette she was, she certainly looked the part of a Celestial Exalt, albeit an unassuming one, in her essence-generated brown and green clothing patterned with abstract leaves and feathers, a well-worn staff seemingly used more for walking than fighting in one hand.

She waved happily at the familiar faces she saw in the crowd.

Still, his return glance is somber, even a touch sympathetic; Evident Truth has the distinct feeling that he knows something of the tributary nation he hails from. Of course, as the consort of the Queen of the City of the Sun, the subtle, studious glimmer to compliment Jacinth's charismatic glory, it is his business to know many things.

Compared to Anansi and many other Celestials, Bat is subdued by choice, and does not make quite the same glowing impression, nor is possessed by the same instantly appealing looks. When the Lord-Captain approaches, he just shakes his head and smiles. "Anansi, you scamp, are you still making trouble for your wife? And you call yourself a Seneschal... tsk. "Ayaya... engaging in the races, really? I've never quite thought of him as a sadist... why, Lilith, dear, does he often make a habit of crushing people's hopes and dreams?" Her smile rather smacked of a worried serenity. "There're... what did you say now, Goldfinch? Three tiers? Mmm. He should be in the fourth, really, or maybe the fifth. With so many younglings... why, I'm certain some irresponsible tongues would suggest that he's being a bully, or something." Pause. "Although he should be able to pull it off."

A folded fan somehow revealed itself from within a sleeve, and she took the chance to tap it, slowly, against one cheek. "Goldfinch, dear, be certain to watch that one, hmm? It's always nice to see a master at work, and if you took a few notes, why, you could even learn a thing or two."

Slight sigh. Murmured affirmation.

"Oh, don't be like that. I know this is a festival, but you are here to learn, are you not? Shiro, dear, you must really keep an eye on him; otherwise I'm certain he'll start frittering his time on, I don't know, growing grass or similar. I apologize, dear," and her smile has wandered back to Lilith again, "Boys at this age." Her generic handwave somehow encapsulated everything between thirteen and thirty into this age, and label it all as a long, extended, and utterly excruciating adolescence.

Anansi's compliment gains Goldfinch a long, considering look, and then, "Yes, I think... I think I am, aren't I? It took a while, after all, but I was always certain I'd get there in the end. There are, after all, only so many people on the face of Creation, and only so many of them have the advantage of being a Golden Child..." She was a bit shorter than him, so Peregrine simply stepped up and hung there to ruffle his hair. He endured. "And now here he is! A very, very special child; why, I don't believe I've told you before, have I? I am very proud of you."

"Oh, but of course you'll be seeing me at the fest. It's been awhile since I've been out and about, and this seems a very lovely day to be, isn't it?" And now her smile turns into something oddly wicked. "Oh, but to think I still lack someone to dance with... it's what happens when you coop yourself with libraries and labs. All the eligible young men never seem to have the patience to stay... present company excepted, of course." Pause. "Oh, but listen to me! I don't suppose you're making my head spin and skip, now are you? My bearings are, after all, a few thousand years old..." Agile Bat gets a quick wink.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Shogun Vanileth continues to bask in the attention and amenities of a guest of honor. He has been given a special seat in the Pavilion next to the Princess's chair, from which he can easily view the parade and aerial shows. There he perches, while his attendants hover upright, rarely contributing to conversations but answering promptly whenever he wishes to be reminded of certain details: an important blueprint, financial details, historical or political figures...

The God of Artificial Flight is in such demand that he hardly even needs to move to speak to anyone. They come to him, sometimes bearing their own personal gifts or pledges, though rarely as large and spectacular as Marek's models. The elder Exalted among the guests, especially the Twilight, garner the most of his attention. He dispenses suggestions, advice and even promises of personal assistance (marked on a schedule book carried by one of his attendant-spirits) to those with the best plans and ideas.

In time he starts to grow restless, though, gazing down at the array of floats with his Dragonfly's Ranging Eye with an impassivity bordering on disinterest. He's seen enough of them to know he's seen them all - they're more for the sake of the citizens than himself.

While one of his assistants inks out some bold corrections on a blueprint draft submitted to him, Vanileth turns to the Princess Sophia. "I've come to your fair city for a number of reasons, Lady Sophia. So far these have been fulfilled satisfactorily enough, though I've yet to see the latest models of the Artimisia, and the Invierna and White Queen II in flight, I do hope that will be corrected shortly. However, I've another request..." The beautiful, sweet-voiced Vanileth leans forward, murmuring something quietly to the Anthegenian Princess. "...and where might she be now? I am disappointed she has not yet shown, or perhaps we will meet at the Banquet?"

Sounds a drums could be heard from off in the distance of the Pavilion. Many servants clear the way as a small formation of DragonBlood officers march into the area. At their center was a none other than, Clematis, the Failed Diplomat. His face was bright and his smile was wide adn he waved as this was his first entrance. He couldn't be outshined by another general. How would that look?

Then the music started. The music was a light melody of winds and flutes. The drums added an airy but dramatic touch. It was loud enough to be heard, but not loud enough drown out anyone speech. Dancers in white and blue flipped out from amoungst the crowds and the formation. They are all dancing near perfect rythym to the music. Oddly, but not suprisingly they all bear the seal of Clematis' family crest on their chest.

Waving as if the festival was for him, Clematis gives a few pleasant looks around. He is not looking at anyone in particular. Then he gives a few short lines as well, also not speaking to anyone in particular.

"Good Day!"

"A wonderful day for a festival"

"The gods smile on us this day"

"Peggy, how's the kids"

"And at the conclusion of the Races, we will fly to the Palace on the White Queen, escorted by the Invierna and the Blood Lance. I am sure Anansi would be pleased to take you up on the Invierna at that time, if you prefer."

The Princess listens quietly to Vanileth's murmured request, and nods promptly, apparently already anticipating what he would ask. "Oh, yes. I have already asked her to attend. She is preoccupied with her spell workings in the Plaza, right now, but has promised me she would entertain the banquet with her presence personally..."

Her voice trails off as she watches Clematis reappear. Marching through the air, in fact, onto the floating pavilion, with dancers and a small army. While the ADF guards ensure his soldiers are armed only for ceremonial purposes, and attempt to clear enough room to allow space for the group, Sophia gazes upon the "new" arrival with an expression both polite and slightly wary. Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

"Lord Desus does as he pleases," says Lilith to Peregrine, whom in replying to her stands close to herself and Radiant Horizon. They are a strange trio, seen together: Lilith, the lithe warrior in her sleeveless sparkling gown, showing off toned musculature and feminine curves; Horizon in her heavy armor, imposing and intricately detailed, staring down the majority of the guests with disinterest; Peregrine with her parasol and fripperies, tugging her son along like a glorified ornament.

In any case, Lilith's expression changes oddly when Peregrine speaks of 'sadism', and Desus related to it. She looks for a moment distinctly furious, then, with a few calm breaths, smiling with a fierce pride. Her head tilts up, short dark hair sliding back so that the sun glitters on her earrings. "They may talk, but Desus is not hard without reason. I'm sure he wishes to test the others, present them a standard with which to aspire to. One cannot reach the height of their potential without such a challenge."

"If others have issue, then they should just withdraw from the race." There Lilith shrugs, and her eyes shift over to Goldfinch, looking him over with analytical interest. "A few years yet before you've truly left the nest," she murmurs to the young Crowned Sun. "Learn to be a predator, or you'll be no better than a glorified slave."

Somewhere in Anansi's efforts to address the students (and Evident Truth in particular), the Lord-Captain weaves a message through subtle gesture and whispers that only Peregrine can hear. Focused on his goals he might be, but a lady of Peregrine's beauty and stature is someone he cannot rightfully ignore.

The black business card remains in his gloved hand, of course, waiting for Truth's acceptance or rejection.

Mattel waits for Evident Truth to take the card. But while he does he takes a closer look at it.  But waving at Keo was missed by his classmate.

Sighing and puttting his head down he give a raspy laugh. "I guess he didn't want to come over and say hi. Well Evident Truth, you see, he is with his mate. And they have been quite lovey dovey since they found each other. If he comes over, she will get upset about it making her ever more clingy later."

Gulping down the rest of his drink he looks over to Clematis. Ever so sly like he turns his back to not face his good friend.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

The card is taken, examined, and vanishes into a various fold of Truths artfully tailored robes. The great yellow eyes flit over Anansi carefully, and the silent interrogation is broken by the return of Clematis...who Truth can ascertain is a failed diplomat for many reasons beyond mere lack of practice.

"Good Festival Day to you Lord Captain. Perhaps you could make my head spin later..jostle out something stuck up in here I can't find on my own."

A cryptic statement for anyone but Bat and Truth at this moment.

His head swivels oddly back to the group, and the old, crafty Lunar recognizes the motion from someone else he knew quite some time ago.  The eyes again, were back on the Lord Captain, though there was less wariness in them. When he speaks again, his tone that same calm tempo, it is directed to Mattel.

"Every Lunar and Solar couple are different from what I've observed..and been told. Some of them are so far from the traditional idea of a relationship you wouldn't recognize it as anything but enmity..or it can be as simple as young love such as theirs. I imagine they are lucky that their connection is so uncomplicated by years...centuries of experience..and mistakes."

His head cocks again in that odd way gazing at Horizon briefly before returning to the others.

Mattel gingerly grabbed another drink from a passing tray put his empty glass on it. Pasting his new smile on to keep the conversation light he responded.

"I maybe just a young lunar, but if you need help looking for something you can't find, I would be willing to assist in looking for it." He smiled faded into his serious face. "Seriously my friend, I could help."

His demeanor switched back just as quick.

"Yeah, lucky they are. I think I'm going to go break up that before they start drooling. But I look forward to seeing you in the dojo. Perhaps you can open my ferious side," he said with a toothy grin."I shall see you around Evident Truth. It was a pleasure to meet you."

Mattel turned and walked towards Keo and Rana.

"Keo and Rana... my favorite solar lunar couple. How goes the festival for you?"

Seeing Anansi with another student, Rana waved as cheerfully at him as she had at the rest of the students and classmates she'd seen. He'd seemed very nice when she'd met him at the banquet before.

For a moment she glanced at Goldfinch, already graced with one of her waves of greeting, who appeared to be the companion of a lady in a very fancy dress. Maybe she was his mother? She thought she could see why Goldfinch was intimidated by her.

Spotting Mattel, she waved at him again and said, "Hi Mattel! How are you? Who's that you were talking to? Is he a new student here?

"Isn't this really fantastic?"

Anansi smiles when Evident Truth accepts the card. "How true, we Chosen of Luna do tend to have a way of finding things that are lost," he remarks as Mattel goes off to speak to Keo and Rana. "You may wish to take up the young man on his offer. Though if you wish, a more direct meeting can be arranged with the lady..." It seems he has not missed the glances at Radiant Horizon, and he quirks an eyebrow while Joyous Bat makes a mock-exasperated sigh. "He really is insufferable..."

"The General is not much for socializing, nor does she like to rush things, particularly in her older age. Though I believe she may grow more interested should she think the likes of me would get my claws into you first." Whether Anansi has any idea of who Truth really is - or was, in this case - he gives no indication.

Then his gaze drifts over to the aforementioned 'lucky couple'. "You are right about the Solar-Lunar bond, though... They vary as much as the hearts of people. Time can affect a bond, as well as a large gap in years. A few centuries ago, I and the lovely Sophia were much like them," Anansi reminisces.

"I don't think it was quite like that," comments Bat dubiously, to which Anansi answers with a smirk, "Shush, allow me my maudlin fantasies like a good gentleman."

Turning his looks over to Keo he continued with a sarcastic expression.

"That's the first time I have seen 'Claw Speak' not scratched on some tree or something. So forgive my ignorance. But most importantly it's nice to see you both either together enjoying the festivities."

Turning to face where he just walked.

"Why, that he does, doesn't he? There are little of us left to oppose him, nowadays... and even less who'd even think of such a thing. Dear, dear." The fan made a quick spin about her wrist, flaring open into a bright, golden crescent before it snapped shut against her finger. "I suppose we must be thankful he's such a wonderful hero, and not one of those complete monsters that keep on ruining our names. Lilith, dear, your husband isn't planning some horrid rebellion, is he? Although I'm certain Horizon here would absolutely love the exercise."  She winked; a playful, girlish thing. "I do wonder who would win?"

flare-snap

"But honestly, Lilith, dear, I can't have you whispering things about predators and whatnot into his ears. We're Solars, not one of your packmates--no offense, Shiro dear, I'm certain packmates must be great things to be--but his, ah, education should really be left to the professionals. Oh, and his mother, of course." flare-snap "Why, I'm certain your husband would agree, wouldn't you? One does hear so many things..."

But Lilith does receive a small, quiet nod from the younger Celestial; Peregrine appears not to notice. Her attention seems captured by Anansi's party, standing perhaps not too far away, and, very slowly, her face breaks into a grin.

"Oh, but surely... Horizon, dear, that poor masked Lunar has been gazing at you for ages. Is that someone you know, or is he yet another despairing admirer?" Her fan flared open once again, and this time stays to fan at her face. "There's quite something about those veils that really make you wonder what's underneath, don't you think? I'm sure I'd go over and say a little something... if I were you, of course."

At the word about leaving education to professionals Lilith stiffens slightly... then her head tilts downward, acknowledging that she has been justly reprimanded. "Of course, Lady Peregrine. My statements were merely conjecture, not a replacement for true education." She needs not confirm that Desus would, indeed, agree, but she makes no comment whatsoever on anything else Peregrine may have heard.

"However, Lord Desus has no reason to throw a rebellion. The Deliberative stands with him, as does this fair city I am sure." Her gaze flickers toward Headmaster Ishmerai, then back to Peregrine, respectfully. It seems she is redoubling her efforts to show respect to the Solar Exalted. "If one must be concerned of rebellion, it would be with those who openly reject the policies and decisions of the Solar establishment."

"Though I would not mind the exercise either, should such an event occur." The dark-haired woman smiles a razor smile that lights up her lovely eyes. Joy comes to Lilith most of all in battle, where she triumphs more often than not. Even when she does not, she learns, and hones herself into a better combatant.

"Hah! There should be no reason for battle now," General Horizon agrees, nodding sharply. She carries her visored helmet at her side, now, her golden hair flowing free in wheat-hued waves. Her eyes, up close, are a pale and piercing blue. "It would be a waste to release Relentless Pursuit of Glory onto this happy celebration."

Perhaps through some shared connection, the perched thousand-forged dragon hears its name and lets out a proud, resounding call.

She shrugs dismissively at Peregrine's mention of the veiled Lunar. Though Horizon has not missed the glances she certainly has not returned them, but for the very first look. "You and I are both renowned enough to have many admirers. Even if I knew him, I've greater matters to attend to. One is not pulled away from guardianship of the greatest weapon of Creation to entertain youthful attention."

"Now if you would excuse me, Peregrine." The General nods politely and steps away, though not before turning to Lilith, remembering a previous request. "Ah, yes. I would be pleased to entertain a duel with you on a later date. Though not today."

Radiant Horizon's hard booted footsteps cross the Pavilion to speak with Sophia, seizing the opportunity now that that her chat with Vanileth has been interrupted by Clematis' awkward re-entry.

"Whatever you say, man, whatever you say." Joyous Bat chuckles, and sips his drink - his second one, after the glass of wine Truth gave him earlier. His eyes wander a bit, not watching Horizon's movements, but rather lingering on his wife. Virtuous Jacinth is, for the moment, engaged in a lengthy and (judging from their reactions) thrilling conversation with Amayana of Luthe.

Anansi, meanwhile, continues to engage Truth in conversation. "So, Evident Truth, will you be at the Banquet this evening?"

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

The demonstration led by the Air Marshal draws attention away from various conversations and pleasantries. Even Radiant Horizon, hard to impress by most standards, politely puts a halt to her serious discussion with Princess Sophia to study the synchronized flight patterns of the Artimisia vessels dominating the airspace. "Your soldiers are well-trained for a peaceful domain such as yours," says General Horizon to Sophia. "They are fortunate to have the likes of Iblis and Falcon to instruct them."

"They're marvelous ships, an interesting variation on the Warbird," Amayana remarks, relaxing with Jacinth. They sip wine together as old, reunited friends, watching the display of sleek metallic bodies and jewel-toned contrails. "They would have useful applications at sea, the warstrider form makes for smoother landings on sea platforms and carriers..."

The gathered Celestials on the Pavilion continue to express varying reactions of approval, surprise and envy. A few haughty, dismissive opinions come from those who disbelieve Anthegenia's pilots could be quite that good, that it's surely the ship construction and not the skill of the pilots that makes for such a spectacular show, and if not for the leading Chosen of Mercury the entire thing would fall apart.

Whether any of that is true or not, Vanileth himself looks incredibly entertained by the display. When the six Artimisia in warstrider form hover before the Pavilion for the final salute, he leaps to his feet and applauds the loudest of all. "Oh very good, very good. That the Artimisia maintains maneuverability at all despite a secondary ground-walking form, is quite honestly astounding." Then he addresses the lead ship personally, indicating the Firebrand with a grand, sweeping gesture while his spirit-assistants continue to applaud in his place. "Sanguinus, you've always been one of my favorites, shame you won't show off more often. You Anthegenians are much too humble."

Sophia is on her feet as well, next to Horizon, who also applauds heartily. "Your praise honors the City of Anthegenia, Shogun Vanileth," the Princess intones, smiling at the mention of humility. "Our advances in warfare and flight technology are developed for protective purposes. Perhaps that seems like humility to some."

"Sophia, with this City's splendid barrier and mighty artifacts, what could possibly do it harm? Anthegenia is one of the crown jewels of artificial flight. To let such power and talent languish..." The attractive pale haired deity shakes his head mournfully.

This seems to be a common subject of contention between the two. Sophia merely replies, "It is our way, Shogun," before nodding toward the hovering warstriders. "Thank you, Iblis, and Blackjack Squadron. You are dismissed."

OOC: FYI, Iblis has 20+ successes from his "In the Air" post. ~Ess 7, maxed stats/specialty for piloting and leading others in flying airships, +3 stunt, auspicious success from Fateful Excellency (dice pool entirely converted to successes). I ruled this as a Ride roll capped by War, with Iblis leading and his wingmen adding further successes, similar to mass combat rules. So even Wave who is not nearly so experienced can look pretty darn good with Iblis leading...

"Good show, Marshal Sanguinus and company. I hope I'll see some of you at the banquet," says Anansi at the end of the demonstration, applauding and saluting the assembled Artimisia ships.

Then he turns to answer Evident Truth, albeit belatedly. "I'm glad you can see the merit of some relaxation now and then. I'm sure Sifu Merciful Fist and others will give you plenty reason for study and meditation come the new week. Besides, many VIPs will stay for the banquet, including a certain General." The Waning Moon grins winsomely while Bat, as usual, tsks at his meddling. "So I'll make sure you and your sister are let in at the door. It may take some work, non-Chosen are rarely allowed unless they are servants... But don't worry, it'll be fine!"

"Anyway, it's my cue to be off, as well. My Invierna surely misses me by now." He steps toward the edge of the floating Pavilion, then turns back around, addressing the students and guests as a whole. "I'll happily take on other passengers who wish an even better view of the Races. The Pavilion is an excellent venue, but it's stationary, after all..."

The Exalted guests are starting to rise from their seats as well, either to watch the races from the luxury of their own airship decks, or for an early arrival at the Palace of the Founders, where the evening banquet will be held. All but the most arrogant and powerful bow respectfully to Sophia and Vanileth before departing via spell, artifact or shapeshift. The Princess, Shogun, Headmaster Ishmerai and General Ruby Falcon, remain at the Pavilion while the White Queen II and escorts prepare to take off from their own private hangar...

OOC: Just starting to disperse things. Races should be at "In The Air", unless I decide to make another thread, anyway. A separate thread for pre-banquet should be available shortly.

Mattel was just finishing the small talk with the 'cute couple' as the time on the pavilion was coming to an end. It seemed the races were about to start. The lunar was excited to see them, especially his fellow students. He felt a little bad there was nothing he could do to help them legally. But as the flunky decide to relay that message the lunar turned and ignored him.

He knew the man would persist to prevent a future accountability lesson from Clematis. Giving a short bow to exuse himself from the current conversation he shifted into a treepard and scurried to the edge of the platform. He looked around and then back at the pursuing dragonblood. He gave his best attempt at a feline smile and jumped off the platform.

He turned to Rana: "We should find a good vantage point for the races..."

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

"Lord Desus and the Hierophant do their best to keep the Deliberative meetings civil and united. Not one is truly fond of meetings that are so chaotic and lacking in direction. But few want to listen to a uniting voice. They would rather listen to their own, it seems." Lilith has reached the limit of what she would speak of about Solar Deliberative matters, though, almost shuddering by the end of her last statement. To alleviate the feeling she adds, "Of course I have only ever been a distant observer of such matters, Lady Peregrine." Which is true; she is more often in the East, contentedly subjugating her husband's tributaries while he does the 'important stuff'.

When Anansi makes his offer, and Peregrine all but invites both herself and Lilith along, the Lunar's mouth tightens into a thin line. For whatever reason, she is mistrusting of Anansi, or perhaps unhappy with him for 'behavior inappropriate of a Seneschal of the Sun Kings'. However, refusing an elder Solar is not something she can easily justify, either, and Desus' last words to her is still strong in her mind as well.

Brief dilemma averted, Lilith smiles to Peregrine and inclines her head to the Lord-Captain. "I will join you, if you'll have my company."

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Rana nodded cheerfully. "We could watch from here, right?

"Or was there somewhere you thought would be better? Did I hear Anansi say we could watch from his ship? Do you think he meant us? That would be interesting..."

Still smiling, her eyes brilliant with excitement, she asked, "Where do you think we would have the best view?"

"Oh, sure!" Anansi says pleasantly to Lilith, including Thalia and Evident Truth, even Rana and Keo in his beckoning gesture. "You can all come, if you want! Don't be shy. Invierna will be happy to have visitors!"

He glances over at his old friend, Joyous Bat. "And you? Oh, never mind, you'll be cozy with Jacinth in the Triumphant Summer Sun." He punches Bat's arm affectionately. "Go on, then."

Joyous Bat rubs his arm in mock injury, but he's grinning. "I'm sure we'll see each other at the banquet. You as well, Evident Truth, if you like. Until then!" He nods in farewell to the gathered Exalts, then leaves to join Queen Jacinth and Queen Amayana in flight. Unlike the Solar's glittering orichalcum, jade and gemstone artifacts, Bat's wings are true, as he hybrid shapeshifts to form a pair of violet-tinged wings (resembling those of his namesake) upon his back.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Anansi takes the opportunity to bid his wife farewell, kissing her slender, gloved hand while Lonan and Vanileth stand beside her. Sophia's smile to him is a polite one, but that she smiles at all seems to put him in great spirits.

Again he addresses the small group wanting passage on the Invierna.

"Well, let's go! We can meet her half-way." Meaning of course the great bird-shaped airship of moonsilver and ice, winging its way toward the Pavilion. Leading the way, Anansi steps boldly off the platform and shifts once more into his charming magpie form, soaring on outstretched wings toward his beloved vessel.

OOC: Will be making an Invierna thread, while the Races (and other spectators) will post in the "In the Air" thread, just to divide the action a bit. So this thread may close soonish.

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Amidst the other Exalts leisurely departing the Pavilion, Radiant Horizon abruptly excuses herself and, with a few running steps, all but throws herself into the air. Twin plumes of golden Essence form diaphanous wings that carry her back toward the platform where her thousand-forged dragon awaits.

Horizon pats the metallic beast, then unexpectedly swings up on its gigantic back as if it were meant to be ridden. Relentless Pursuit of Glory neither complains nor attempts to throw her off, instead obediently lifting off into the air with a mighty hum of crackling energy and whirring gears. Its shriek is the screech of metal on metal, and even soldiers who have seen conflict in the magitech age wince just to hear this mightiest of automatons streak by.

Wherever General Horizon and her dragon are headed, it does not appear to have anything to do with watching the Races.

"We'll have to find out," he said, scanning his surroundings to get the best viewpoint. "By the way, I forgot to ask you - did you make your reservation for the Banquet?"

Rana nodded, "Yep! It'll be fun, right?"

She looked around curiously, though she didn't have the least idea where would be best. "You can pick."

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Sometime before the race begins, the Anthegenian mother ship White Queen II docks at the Aerial Pavilion for the convenience of Princess Sophia, her trusted entourage and guests.

As a symbol of the city itself, the Queen has been built with similar materials as Anthegenia itself, primarily crafted of a sturdy white jade and adamant alloy with orichalcum detailing. Its decor has a floral theme to it: flowers carved onto fixtures, painted whimsically on the hull, not overdone but just enough to give the vessel a feminine elegance despite its size (large enough to be considered a carrier) and rows of shining weaponry. It is, after all, the ship most likely to be guarding the Princess' life, and thus heavy Essence artillery is certainly appropriate -- along with a full escort of Firdaus battleships and Artimisia warbird/striders.

Deep in conversation, Sophia and Vanileth board the White Queen first, flanked by winged ADF guards and floral handmaidens, followed by a solemn Ruby Falcon and Headmaster Ishmerai. Rana and Keo are unfortunately not invited, though they've already decided to remain on the Pavilion now that most of the guests have cleared out. They aren't completely alone, but there's plenty of space on the Pavilion for privacy while the servants still remaining aboard start gathering plates and glasses to be transported away.

The great white carrier departs toward a prominent viewing position reserved specifically for the Princess and guest of honor, where they can enjoy the races in privacy and peace before the banquet.

OOC: there, just getting the last of the NPCs out of here. :)

Re: Festival of Journeys - Aerial Pavilion

Keo was quite pleased when the races were finally over. "That was quite the show. I'd rather have had Professor Uthar win the race over Desus, but I guess it can't really be helped... Shall we go to the Banquet?" he asked as he pointed towards one of the landing bays. "Ready for another flight?"
