Re: It's still got mad potential to be fun, dammit!

Got a bunch of ideas bouncing around. I suppose I'll just vomit them out one at a time to get back in the groove.

Also I will happily dig back through and pull the bits of the Mirrorverse... Tomorrow after work.

Are we trying to play protagonists in the Mirror world?  Because if Mirror world is like opposite world, Gale is not very nice there.

Re: It's still got mad potential to be fun, dammit!

I kind of figured it was people playing their main characters, but different.  For many, that will mean being a "dark" version because the world is generally crappier, but for some they might actually be better, more actualized individuals.  I think of the Star Trek mirrorverse stuff.

Re: It's still got mad potential to be fun, dammit!

I would say its less opposite and more twisted. What if a different personality trait was emphasized?

If you have seen Madoka Magica you'll have a pretty good idea of what Solitaire-Alter is going for, dimension hopping and hunting alternate selves in an attempt to acquire enough fate/karma/causality/importance to brute force though a rewrite of the past. Even still, its not going to make her happy. That is not really something she is capable of anymore. The end had been subsumed by the task, there is just the hunt and the anger.

In reply to Solitaire (msg # 642):

Yeah, that seems pretty similar to how I've perceived the mirrorverse.

As an aside, though I'm not fond of the majority of anime I watch, I was pretty happy with Madoka Magicka.  It was a fresh and interesting take on the magical girl genre, and I also enjoyed the weird existential/metaphysics angle.

Hm.  I haven't seen Madoka Magica. (yet.  Putting it on the list.)  So I'll probably have to think about this a little bit more.

Re: It's still got mad potential to be fun, dammit!

FYI I'll be adding some more content, probably sometime either next week or the week following.  Midterms/sick/child/work projects/school projects are currently taking up my time, but next Friday is the beginning of spring break.  Its that magical time when you get to catch up on all the crap you should have already gotten done... I seriously don't know how people that aren't affiliated with education get their work done without it :P

I will be posting on Monday.  My mom has been at my house for the past 2 weeks, helping me post-op.  So next week I will have time to get on and write stuff.

Re: It's still got mad potential to be fun, dammit!

Just checking in.  I didn't die.   Been working 12hr days followed by toddler care for another 4.5 hours most days.  Spring break wasn't the break I had planned for either. This semester will end soon, one way or another...  The nice thing about working in higher ed and K-12 is that both get a summer break.  It's a nice light at the end of the tunnel.

I've been thinking about where to take things though, and I have some ideas for moving things along based on the directions people took in their update posts, as well as where we were at when we left off.

If Grav and Serenade can let me know roughly where they imagine their characters after the time skip, I will roll out some plot.  Imp too, if he's around.  He got this whole shindig restarted after all.

In the meantime, I've set up a little dream sequence to get us interacting.  Also, despite the surreal setting there is a point to the weirdness.  Beyond providing the freedom to explore a new setting and twist things based on your own inner demons and hidden wishes, the terrain plays into the metaplot.

Re: It's still got mad potential to be fun, dammit!

Hunh,
I don't even remember posting in January... Very odd.
I'm definitely up for restarting, though  as I had switched to a younger nova just before things hibernated, I'd be more interested in playing Paidrag/Wheelman than the shiny social monster.
Life update: Since this game went quiet I divorced my ex-wife (huzzah, no relationship drama!), moved back to my hometown in BC, Canada(moved home in July 2014), started an M.Ed, got remarried, bought and renovated a house, and finished my M.Ed a few weeks back.
It's pretty late here, I'll check in again tomorrow and read all the awesome that people have no doubt posted all over the place.
Also, Hey everybody, welcome home!!!

Sorry for my delays. My phone is my primary device so posting is hard. Trying out the responsive RPOL beta to see if it helps. So far so good.

Yeah, just a few years changes a LOT!  I got divorced, remarried, and in a crash that took me out of work for over a year.  Good times.

In reply to Wheelman (msg # 654):

Yeah a pretty significant car crash, 6 broken ribs, broken sternum, torn ACL, broken tibial plateau, and torn posterior tibial tendon.  I am recovering from the secpnd and final surgery now.  It has not been fun but I think in the end it will be a good event.  It made me realize that I want more put of life than being a driver for UPS.

Though it is good that the event gave you some perspective and positive spin, I wish that the insight could have come without such a jarring experience.  Or, as Marcus from Babylon 5 once put it: (Link to Youtube: https://youtu.be/HRxqorKqqkc?t=2m10s )

Hope the recovery is swift and all function is restored.

In reply to Solitaire (msg # 658):

That's how I've felt lately.  Every time I sit down I have some variety of work that takes precedence, despite my best intentions.  College ended last week so I'm done with both my courses and the ones I'm teaching.  k-12 schools end this coming week, which means I won't have any more kids to do evaluations on, so I'll finally have some more free time.  I so look forward to it...
