Re: Deployment

Comstock shook his head.  "No.  Back to Bunia.  No more traps and no more fighting for now."  That had gone much better than he had expected, but he wasn't so confident that he wanted to risk pursuit.

He looked to his team, glad that everyone had made it through without incident.  He spotted Crimson Dawn.  "Hey, Dawn!  Thanks.  You're alright."

When he had a free moment, he found Gravitas.  "Hey, Quentin, uh ... Pax is somewhere around here, isn't he?"

Re: Deployment

After seeing Zero off, Quentin opened a third portal to the capital and stepped through. He immediately tapped his headset, "Gravitas to... well... anyone really. Is this thing working? Over." He set out to assess the current situation, given that they'd heard almost nothing out of the city for a few hours, and see where he was needed most.

Spotting the human casualties, Quentin heads over in that direction to lend aid where he can. He starts to triage the injured and does his best to try to coordinate the local rescue works, speaking in French, primarily, the only language the locals have that he understands.

Re: Deployment

Phantasm powers her creations a bit longer, chasing the retreating troops, but gives up by the time the team returns to the city.  She looks tired, and drained, but pumps out enough energy to keep her construction equipment going for a bit longer, enough to make a dent in some of the heavier work.

"I really need a break guys.  These things take a lot out of me.  I'm just gonna go over here and lay down for a bit while they work.  Good job everyone, and thanks for the help CD."

I lost track of quantum spent, though I'm surely running low.  I think I should still have something like 5 left, but I'm just going to assume I'm out for story purposes.

Re: Deployment

Imp keeps an eye on the retreating blur, then drops down beside the irascible doctor.  "Nice work with the jeep, Doc.  I must say I've never seen anybody hot wire a car that fast."  He then walked over to Comstock and 'Tasm.  "We heading back to the city centre?  If so the first thing we need to do is to find any hospitals still standing, get medical supplies to them, and get an airstrip ready so said medical supplies and food can be flown in.  Guess that means that I'm going on overwatch again."
After getting everybody back to Sam, Imp flies up again looking for anything that may be a hospital, even without a sign the locals would be congregating around medical centres, that and churches, which would be equally important to getting the city back on its feet, really.

Re: Deployment

In Bunia and then Kampala, Comstock set about lifting away debris and trying to right structures.  The ache in his head turned into a dull roar, and the twisted shapes and building frames came back, just like that first night back on the Strip.  "Holy fuck ... hey Doc!  I think I've got X-Ray vision!"  He tried to avoid using his new vision as much as possible just to stay on the safe side.

After righting structures in danger of collapse, Comstock turned his attention to cleaning up stray armaments.  Anything left behind could be scavenged, used for crime, or worse.  While Phantasm napped and the others managed things, Comstock took the opportunity to avoid Pax's anger by locating a minefield and disarming it, one two-ton stomp at a time.

Having cleared access to the bombing sites, Solitaire heads back to what used to be the capital building. Finding Gravitas, she claps him on the back and says "Good to have you back, I don't have the least idea how to put people back together. " She then heads off to Frostburn to make a report and ask for further instructions.

Re: Deployment

After locating a number of care facilities, both physical and spiritual, Imp drops down to various hot spots in the city and attempts to calm things down, his decent french allowing him to communicate effectively with the locals.  As he interacts with them, gets them organized, calms them down he notices that some of them are leaving things like flowers, beads and small mementos near him, they try to rub up against him, and those who succeed and are forced back by the press of humanity have an almost worshipful expression on their faces.  weird.  "Imp to Comstock, medical facilities at coordinates x, y, and z.  I'm near what's left of the main boulevard, trying to get the locals calmed down.  Any instructions?"

Re: Deployment

Zero starts walking back next to Comstock. “We need to do something about getting long rang attacks that can slow or stop retreating enemies. I hate letting all these amoral Novas run off. Sigh. I definitely agree on falling back, though. I’m just trying to figure out ways to keep our victories… decisive in the future. Upgraded missile launcher? Yeah, that would work…”

Comstock:
He spotted Crimson Dawn.  "Hey, Dawn!  Thanks.  You're alright."

“Quite. I think you granteed us an easy victory, there. That, and you given us a much less… complicated occupation. Now, how much money did you walk away from there?” Zero rummages through it’s pockets while standing in a spot with a strong breeze, all so that it’s scarf could get a good, dramatic uplift and highlight Zero’s spiffy outfit. It finds a business card and hands it to Crimson Dawn. “Here. If you need a hand, I’d be honored to return the kindness.” Zero thought about addressing the obvious tension between Dawn and Impetus, but decided it was the worst time to dig at old wounds. “Hey, could you still point us in the direction of those repair materials?”

Zero returns to the city and repairs the infrastructure with a blazing speed. During the walk back to the city, The Doctor has retuned it’s internal clock mechanism, and now reacts with machine like precision. It’s movements are becoming hypnotic, and it deliberately works in front of mobs and looters to distract them.

When called to the Capital, it begins to apply its medical skills at a prodigious rate. It’s difficult to read it’s facial expressions, but the Doctor seems almost giddy with the rate it is able to mend bones and tissue, and seems livelier than ever. It catches itself singing “I’ve been working on the railroad” several times while cracking jokes with conscious  (and some unconscious) patients or staff.

Imp continues trying to get the locals working together, with remarkable success, radioing in to the capital his position and supplies needed.  After getting an update from Frostburn Imp starts trying to organize gangs of people to start clearing eh main thoroughfare through the city, planes may not be able to land there but it made for a natural place to airdrop supplies, and would facilitate moving around the city once rescue personnel started arriving.  He was tired, dirty, bloody, sore and having a blast.

Re: Deployment

"Imp, this is Comstock: Instructions?  Keep the crowd amazed.  They'll riot less when you smile at them."

---

When Comstock ran out of ideas he fell back on the Utopia manual for these situations.  When that didn't seem to have an answer, he just did his best to keep people happy and entertained.  He wished he'd had a chance to learn another language before getting deployed.  Even a few words would have been helpful.

Clearing mines made him feel good, but it was time intensive and not very helpful.  Unlike the others, he just couldn't move very quickly.  Even driving a car when he was heavy could be an ordeal.  He needed a proper truck to get around.  Not that he had much trouble acquiring one ... a local family quickly volunteered to drive him around wherever he needed, communicating with a smattering of English and a great deal of gesticulation.

After leaving Bunia, things seemed to get easier.  Local soldiers actually seemed interested in helping ("Hey Doc, what did you tell them?") and there were more English speakers.  Comstock found Quentin and Frostburn, reported everything that had happened, and then walked quick patrols around the city.  Anyone unwilling to disperse at a sharp word from a gleaming metal man received a quick spray of rubber bullets and a trip to a medical center.

Re: Deployment

Comstock:
("Hey Doc, what did you tell them?")

"Oh, nothing much. I just reminded them that, at this point, any funny business is equal to treason. I let them iron out the implications, after that." The Doctor deepens it's voice, dramatically, and adds "We now walk as representatives on the United Nations" and lowers it's voice back down to a conversational tone. "Sometimes people need reminding of the obvious, you know?"

After clearing patient after patient, Zero ops to join Comstock on his paroles of the city. It wants to clear it's head of the ones that didn't make it. The Doctor delivers quick, paralyzing jabs to any looters or hoodlums, while checking to vitals of anyone Comstock shoots, in case a bullet accidentally causes excessive harm.

"I like the rubber bullet idea. This will help us deliver a powerful example to the world. It's inspired me to work on some new moves. I'd prefer not to have to kill another opponent if I don't have to."

"Speaking of which, we did agree to teach each other some tricks, yes? I'll show you how to be precise with your punches and you'll give me some voice lessons. You poor man, you."

Re: Deployment

At the capital, it is over an hour longer before communications are restored.  Gravitas and Solitaire find a device, crumbling to dust even as they approach it, that is emitting a jamming frequency over the entirety of the city.  After it has fallen apart, communications are suddenly restored, and they can hear the chatter of their comrades in Bunia.

Frostburn is busy for the first 20 minutes or so catching up with data, and working to forward it all through her headset (with her comm set up destroyed).  After she gets a better lay of the land, she requests that Solitaire and Gravitas continue their work, but focus on clearing all rubble to a secondary location to be sifted through later (she points out a nice construction yard that should work).  Keep the stuff in distinct piles if possible, but just get it out of the way so that people can get around, and deal with the other clean up jobs.  She also requests that you guys get a bridge of some sort up (to replace the fallen one), though that will of course take time.

)))))

At Bunia, the clean up and repairs are going along at breakneck speed.  The practice you had working together on the pool was apparently worthwhile, as it familiarized you with the kind of work, and with doing team construction.  You are able to repair many of the facilities in the first 5 hours or so, and the others will likely be finished by the morning (if your energy holds out long enough).  This is also in part due to the damage done, as it was all very precise and easily repaired (at least by nova standards... baselines would still have taken at least a week or more).

The injured were actually relatively minor, and the survivors receive the best battlefield care possible.  Many of the injured however are actually in hospitals, or trapped under rubble, and are found as repairs progress further, requiring temporary pauses by Zero and Phantasm to patch up those that can still be helped.

Crimson Dawn and Impetus have a temporary peace, and CD doesn't bring up their grudge in front of others.  He is more than happy to interact with everyone socially after all this is over, even if he has to put up with Imp to do it.  Comstock is the scary cop to Imp's good cop, and ensures that further violence is unlikely, using his intimidating power and voice to frighten the looters, while moving steel girders into place for construction projects.  Samual aids Imp in flyovers of the city, and also helps to prevent further violence with his obvious power... And his leftover quantum means that he's also one of the primary deterents of further nova attack (a few of the more alert among you sense blips every once in a while that back off after seeing patrolling T2Mers).

Frost burn has little advice for the Bunia team, other than to say they are doing a good job, and that they likely know the situation there better than she does.  Stay there, keep doing what you're doing, and if Pax comes calling, just be non-confrontational about the whole thing... and she notes that it's an open channel to Utopia, and that everyone is probably being monitored on their transmissions.

)))))

If people would like to talk further in these scenes, and describe their actions, I'm happy to accomodate that.  Otherwise, this is the end of the primary portion of the African campaign.  The fallout from this will be resolved in longer wrap up posts, as will the remaining missions that you face in the Equatorial Wars (you do have a few more).  These other posts can be responded to, but we won't be doing detailed, play-by-play style posting for it.

Sorry again for the delay, busy couple of days.  More tomorrow, after I hear any last words from people.  Oh, also, if i missed anything that needed reply, do yell at me and point it out.  I want to make sure all lose ends and things people were doing are dealt with.

Re: Deployment

Gravitas readily agrees and begins to shift the rubble and debris, mostly by creating a large low-gravity field and throwing debris by hand. Though the work is mildly tiring, he figures he can go for quite a while without exhausting himself. As he moves the rubble, a relatively mindless activity, he starts planning a bridge to replace the lost one. It didn't need to be anything overly fancy, but it needed to be sturdy enough to last and simple enough that it could be assembled rapidly.

After the majority of the debris had been shifted to the empty construction yard, Quentin goes about making a list of materials he expects that they'll need for the bridge and sketching out a quick blueprint for what he'd been formulating in his head. If available, he enlists the talents of Solitare and any baseline reconstruction groups in the area to flesh out the plan for the bridge and get work started on it.

Once communications are restored, Gravitas fields any questions directed his way:
Comstock:
"Hey, Quentin, uh ... Pax is somewhere around here, isn't he?"

"No, as far as I know he stayed at the European HQ."

He also fielded a few of his own, "How are things going? Any trouble in Bunia? Any new intelligence on the nova attackers or mostly just baseline mop-up?"

Solitaire is only too happy to assist Gravitas, and between the two of them they make short work of the remaining rubble and make some good headway on the bridge. She's content to let Grav do the planning, as she figured he knew everything, or just about, and was probably a lot better at it than she was, while she took the absurdly heavy lifting in stride.

Comstock nodded.  "Yeah, for me its ... wait.  What do you mean poor me?"  He had a sudden notion that his instruction in the martial arts -- between Phantasm and Zero -- was going to be a long and frustrating process.  Possibly even painful.  "This can wait until after we get back, right?  I mean ... aw, hang on.  STOP!"  He fired another warning shot, scattering some boys.  "Heh ... yeah, I like the rubber bullets too.  People might complain but they've never had rock salt in their behind."

Phantasm:
"Comstock, you holding up ok?"

Comstock flicked on his headset.  "Better than I thought I'd be around now.  How about you?  Still worn out?"

Gravitas:
"How are things going? Any trouble in Bunia? Any new intelligence on the nova attackers or mostly just baseline mop-up?"

"Bunia's shaping up.  It's all mop up.  People ... they think we're gods, Gravitas.  I was prepared for celebrity but I wasn't ... wasn't really prepared for being a god, you know?"

Impetus:

The mystic reverence persisted, even after patrol was over.  "Uh ... yeah, yeah they're treating me like I'm an idol or something.  Though, I think they've got even weirder ideas about Zero."  He thrust a thumb in Zero's direction and whatever bizarre devotion he was being shown now.

"I don't know if the bet paid off.  I mean, Sol's pretty tough, but we shouldn't have broken ranks like that.  People could've ... it could have been bad.  So, I've been thinking and ... well, I'm supposed to teach Zero here how to do that voice thing I do, and he's going to teach me to stop fighting with basic army punch-and-grab, and I was hoping you could help me learn to move faster.  I don't know that it's possible but I might as well try.  It'd be worth it if the whole team could get back together in minutes but cover a whole country, you know?"  He paused, thinking about it.  His mind was on the vial of mercury that Zero had given him back in the first week of running.  He'd sucked in other metals and his body had just adapted and integrated them, so it stood to reason that the Doc had a point and it might help him.

"Faster? Sure thing.  I don't know if the mental acrobatics that I do to get up to speed are going to be really effective for you, I shudder to think of how much momentum you'd have if you went heavy and got up to mach 1."  Inwardly Imp smiled, Comstock didn't ask him to do stuff together very often, it felt good to be included.
A short distance away Imp saw a group of kids staring at them in wide eyed awe.  He gave them a friendly smile and walked over, the kids seemed fearful, or maybe awestruck, or probably both.  He crouched down and started talking with them in french.  A couple of the bolder ones spoke back in hesitant, piping voices.  Imp's brow furrowed, and he stood up, looked towards 'stock. "These kids say their parents are dead or missing, they wanna know if the angels, which i presume is us, can take them up to Heaven when we go back, they hate it here." He crouches again and smiles at the kids, speaking softly.  The kids start nodding, some looking dubious, others looking hopeful.  " I told em that we're not angels, and that the best way for them to get into Heaven is to do good things for others and to make sure their friends are safe and staying out of trouble.  They're going to tag along with me, I'll keep an eye on them.  Oh, yeah, one last thing," Imp toggles his headset, "Imp to team, one of the priests told me that if a woman holds her child out to you do not take it, if you do the child is officially yours, according to local customs, and you're responsible for it.  If you wanna be a single parent you can accept, but it'll set a very bad precedent if Project novas start taking babies, no?"
After broadcasting Imp pitches in helping with whatever task seems most important, his mere presence seems to make things go smoother and just work better, his good mood is infectious and soon people are chatting and smiling as they work, singing traditional work songs and making the best of things. The perceptive few notice that immediately after Imp's presence really starts to take hold he has a slow trickle of blood leaking out of his ears, he wipes it off, and a brief frown furrows his brow, then he is once again the ringleader of good humor, singing along with people, and working faster than the eye can follow.  The kids pitch in alongside the adults, they seem very intent on getting into Heaven.

Re: Deployment

The Equatorial Wars, as the pitched nova battles for land throughout the 3rd world come to be called, were disastrous for Nova and Baseline alike.

After the first day of fighting, in which T2M managed to avert a coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo and retake a city conquered by invaders, many other countries were leery of breaking international law and deploying Nova combatants.  But several countries were already involved by the time the full breadth of T2M's victory was shown to the world.  These countries expanded their use of novas further, as a defense against U.N. sanctions, while their enemies hired novas of their own for defensive purposes.  Entrenched novas guarded cities against guerrilla novas attempting to chip away at the defenders will, and baselines were often the greatest casualties in the conflict.

T2M was able to stop some of the early fighting outside of the DRC, but their early victories lead to overconfidence.  T2M leadership was under the impression that the intensive training of their members would give a tactical advantage, and allow them to fight the nova Elites (the name that emerged for nova mercenaries) on even terms.  They were sadly mistaken when they found out that the elites, despite lacking some of the resources and training hours of T2M, were trained far more extensively than T2M in at least one area: combat.

In the early, post DRC battles, T2M used small tactical units of novas to quickly strike at enemy targets.  They met with far more resistance than expected however, and were soundly defeated on virtually all fronts.  Utopia even lost one of it's own members during this period to the fearsome Totentatz.  After analyzing their mistakes, Utopia shifted to tactics that used overwhelming force to deal with enemy novas, mandating that a 2:1 ratio of T2M novas to elites be maintained at all times.  This battle plan was far more successful, but had the drawback of tying up valuable resources, and drastically reduced the ability of Utopia to respond to the many and varied nova attacks.

Elites became more canny as the war went on, and used guerrilla tactics far more extensively as combat progressed.  The media, at first casting Utopia as victorious in virtually all of its encounters (whether they were actually the winners didn't matter, as long as the world had its heroes), but after nova terrorists attacked New York on September 11, 2001, and as the battles continued on into early 2002, the media stance shifted.  "New" video was "uncovered" of Utopia's early mistakes, while reporters began criticizing the constant fighting that was taxing world trade and taking a severe toll in human life.  Though Utopia of course was attempting to prevent the loss of life, they were blamed for prolonging the hostilities, and pressure was placed on Utopia from the U.N. security council to end the conflicts by any means necessary, and preferably in such a manner that the more affluent countries could come out on top.

Utopia decided that a single show of force, followed by hastily arranged peace treaties, would serve best in ending the continuing conflicts.  On February 21, 2002, T2M attacked an elite base in Uganda, crushing them utterly.  The same day, Utopia scorched a trail of destruction all the way across Africa, and into the middle east (fighting had broken out there in response to the U.S. attack the previous year, with the U.S. invading Iraq and Afghanistan, supported by a small contingent of novas and resisted by native novas and "freedom fighters").  By the end of the day, with victory after victory under their belt (but perilously low on energy), and their efforts displayed on international television, T2M attacked one of the primary bases for Iraqi resistance.

The natives, realizing they were doomed (the progress of T2M had been televised worldwide after all), set in motion a suicide plan of epic proportions.  Utilizing chemical weapons and quantum energy, the Iraqi's set off an explosion as the Utopian forces broke into their base, killing many of the novas and sending clouds of poisonous dust rolling outwards from the blast.  The nature of the energies involved is still poorly understood, but the aftermath is all too clear: the entirety of southern Iraq was swept clean of life, along with much of Kuwait and northern Saudi Arabia.

If not for the many losses that T2M suffered, and the loss of U.N. and U.S. forces on the ground that day, world opinion could have turned against the budding nova population.  But, though a minority of the world harbored intense anti-nova sentiment due to the destruction, the majority blamed Iraq for its weapons of mass destruction.  The world was stunned into silence, and the majority of nova conflict came to an end.  Peace accords were rapidly pushed through, with a final treaty ending all fighting in Africa, signed at the location where hostilities began, the little village a few hundred miles outside of Bunia.  Similar treaties were signed in Baghdad and Bogata, signaling an end to war in their corresponding continents.

The aftermath of the Equatorial wars was filled with shocked calm, after which the U.N. hastily drafted the Quantum Powers Non-Proliferation Treaty, which limited the use of Novas in warfare.  While this would often be ignored in small scale conflicts and in espionage, public use of novas as weapons became the equivalent of political suicide for those that authorized such actions.  Nova elites were in no way eliminated, but their role changed from front line warriors to covert operatives, bodyguards, and technological experts.

Utopia was hard pressed to maintain their place in the U.N. after the Iraqi disaster.  With barely a pause to bury their dead, Utopia began relief efforts to not only the middle east, but also the other areas impacted by the Equatorial Wars.  They also set into motion other plans that they had been working on, releasing cures to deadly diseases, and turning the deserts of Africa and the Middle East into veritable paradises (test sites in Egypt and New Iraq were promising, and further sites are being put in place).  In the face of these extraordinary works, the world community could not help but stand in awe of Utopia's work...  All but a minority of baselines forgot about the recent toll that nova abilities had exacted.

By late December of 2003, society has seemingly recovered from the events earlier in the year.  T2M, after the loss of some of its early members, such as Firefox, Makara, and Splash, as well as trainees like Harley Logan and Zeus, the membership saw a marked surge.  Novas from around the world volunteered to help with rebuilding, and the fear of novas, at least for the moment, is buried under a tide of awe and good will.  The economy has picked up, and the world seems hopeful that a new golden age is at hand.  But only time will tell how long this new golden age will last...

I will give a rundown of the OOC changes to the setting and how things played out later.

I did want to note however that if Zeus/Sam or Harley were to come back, they could still play despite being "dead".  It is incredibly easy to justify an energy being like zeus being around, for example, and a shady character like Harley would make a great operative for somebody, now that he's dead...

Anyway, this took a while, so I'm off to bed.  More tomorrow.  Sorry for the delays on this.

Oh, and feel free to post in vignettes regarding any scenarios you guys would like to play out.  There is almost a year of fighting, and though you guys do have some time back at your base during slow points, you are mostly out in the field.  Fill in the blanks as you see fit.  And I figure this gives justification for not only the powers you've developed (or want to develop) but also for all that xp that's been piling up.

Re: Deployment

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)

So.  What the fuck just happened, and why?  Figured I'd give you an idea of where and why things diverged.

The biggest two things that occurred were Utopia won the overall conflicts in the DRC, and they stopped the Coup.  In the original plot, the first fight of the day was an even bigger cluster fuck than yours, and the team retreated to Bunia to stop the advance, against the suggestions of Anteaus (Pax was pissed they'd gotten their ass beat, and was swayed by the bleeding hearts on his team, unlike you guys who just went along with the plan).  The presence of a strong and competent team of Novas in the capital of the DRC was able to stop the Six Heads Lightning War (Elites, p.88).  This in turn prevented the coup, and increased stability in the region.  Then the team followed up with reinforcing Bunia, and preventing Ugandan occupation.

All of this made Utopia look exceptionally strong, and intimidated many countries enough that they didn't want to fuck with anyone.  Those that did deploy novas began doing so in much less obvious ways, and began campaigns of terror.  The overconfidence of Utopia after the first battles added to the guerrilla fighters successes, and by the time Utopia got with the program and learned to effectively fight the enemy forces, they were entrenched.

Your actions ended up saving some civilian lives (there was massive ethnic cleansing after the coup in DRC, and around the whole area), though the actual battles began taking a significant toll as well.  While the media was in love with T2M in the primary timeline, the public seldom has the stomach for a prolonged war, and the loss of life, atrocity, and increasing economic ramifications (diamonds, oil, certain heavy metals, etc) were enough to turn the public against the peace keeping mission.  The mounting pressure caused a downward spiral of escalation that pushed more parties into the conflict and finally ended in the Iraq disaster.

Al Queda came into things late, after they saw the success of the nova guerrillas in Africa and South America.  They modified previously existing plans, incorporating novas into them.  The results were nearly the same as in the real world, but with a greater loss of life (12k ish seems about right).

The US response, and entry into the mess that was the Equatorial Wars complicated things immensely, and created power struggles between the U.N. and the U.S. over the direction that the Equatorial War should take.  Unlike the real world, the U.S. was able to get a great deal more international support for their military efforts, due to the greater loss of life, the use of nova combatants, and the ongoing Equatorial Wars.

The Iraq disaster was bad, though due to the low population density of the region, it was not nearly as bad as it would have been in Europe or another heavily populated area.

The political fallout from the disaster brought the world together, and scared the shit out of those countries still using novas.  They wrapped things up privately, and then voluntarily came to the U.N. to sign treaties.  They were afraid that the entire world would come down on them if they continued to fight.

Novas came out of the whole situation with more anti-nova sentiments than in the real world, and the fear of novas took root in the subconscious of the public far earlier than in the primary timeline.  That said however, they came out much better than they could have, largely due to the noble sacrifice of several novas in the final battle, as well as during the 9/11 attacks and the Equatorial Wars as a whole.  Nova's are still the celebrities they were, and they are still adored, but there is an undercurrent of caution, and the world as a whole is much more leery of using novas as combatants in open warfare.  Actually, war as a whole is not on the world agenda for several more years, and the Kashmir conflict may not occur at all (or if it does, it will be later than in the standard timeline).

Elites are no less sought after, and they still make a great deal of money.  But they will not have the same positive fame that they had in the primary timeline until memory of the Equatorial wars has a chance to fade, or at least not the combat elites anyway.  The New Elite is a public servant, and gains fame for saving lives, making strikes against criminals that countries can't afford to eliminate themselves, and other similar actions.  Elites are still there, but subtly different from before.  A few, like Totentatz, are still famous for their deeds in the Wars, and are still in high demand but most try to maintain a less... obviously combative stance.

Some of the fame lost by Elites was picked up by the XWF, and other nova entertainment associations however, as well as members of T2M.  The teragen, if they come out, may also pick up some of the fame as well, depending on their stance when they come out.  If they remain a philosophical, separatist stance, they will likely gain in popularity.  If they become more militant they will probably be faced with a much larger backlash, though by the 2010's they might be even more popular, as the younger generation becomes attracted to the 'extreme' novas willing to push the social boundaries (even more than in the primary timeline.

I'm rambling at this point, and can't think of anything else important.  If you think of some other ramifications, or you have questions, let me know.

Re: Deployment

Phantasm:
"After.  I just picked it up a little while ago, not even as part of eruption.  I learn everything faster now.  Kinda weird when I think about it, but it feels natural, like breathing... actually, breathing probably isn't the best thing to compare it to, since half the team doesn't do it anymore."

"Yeeees." The Doctor thoughtfully strokes it's chin. "I've noticed that, to. I've experienced it as well. It's been disconcerting, at first, but during the early fire fight we had, I started being able to better perceive Quantum flows. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it, but I see these strange forces flowing in and out, radiating out and into everything. We are constantly breathing Quantum in, and sharing it with others. It's been a reassuring experience."

Phantasm:
"I'm ok now, helping Zero with patients.  I was just drained, my creations take a lot out of me.  When we get back, you're gonna need some more martial arts.  Oh, what are we doing with all the... uh, bodies?  Not everyone could be fixed, and I don't know what we're supposed to do... Putting them in a pile seems kinda bad for PR though."

"We are not using mass graves. I never want to see a mass grave again."

The Doctor's tone changed. "How squeamish are you, my dear Phantasm? I can teach you the sadly handy war skill of embalming, if you like. We can easily embalm them with the chemicals we have handy. The families can then treat their dead with the due respect this deaths randomly try to rob them off."
