GM viewing as a Player

I was wondering if it were possible for a GM to view a post as a player without all the GM access.  In a game I run, I sent the same 'Private to...' message to multiple players, 5 to be exact, and nested all the messages together.  I was informed by one of my players they could not see any of the post I made.  Two other players mentioned about seeing the closing rackets and suggested it could have been syntax.  If it was syntax, if I could see what the players see, I might have been able to debug the problem and fixed it the easy way instead of the problem.

So my question again without all the fluff, Is there a way for the GM to view the threads with a player's view?

I've often wondered the same thing.

Thanks Nauthiz for the links.  I can see I am not the first to think of this, but I am more basic than everyone else.  I just a player's view, not a specific player's view.  Oh well.  Maybe one day.

The problem with that would be that, in games that use groups or private messages, not every player has the same view.

I understand that not every player has the same view.  I tried creating a character within the game and then went and looked and saw everything I would as a GM.  Not very helpful.  But, as I mentioned, maybe one day, just not today.  LOL

I think it's actually been a couple of these threads since this has been mentioned -- for a generic, "Just not the GM" view, you can log out of RPoL and then look at the thread.  The thread has to be public for that, of course; if it's not, you'd have to set it to Group 0, log out, check whatever you wanted to look at, log back in, and put it back to the right Group, which is both troublesome and potentially risky depending on why it's in a private Group... but it does only take a few moments.

I guess what is really needed is a way of previewing the message from different perspectives before you post it.

As a GM, I frequently use features that I've never actually seen as a player. Things like language groups and secret lines. (Not just private lines.) While the Help page explains some of these features a bit, it doesn't give me the perspective I'd like.

Sometimes, the way I post something is just as important as the text. Specific bits of formatting, placement of images, inclusions of secret messages -- all of those can be important. It's not just what you say, but how you say it.

I think the best option would be a drop-down box next to the Preview button, that would let you select one of the game's players and see the preview the way they would see the post.
