Re: Garstone Shore

Okie dokie! Have a good week. :)

We'll just carry on until you get back, and if carrying on fails, we'll just sleep. :)

Waiting for all to announce they're awake/ready to move on before we do so!

Edit: Except for Haruuna who is away.

Re: Garstone Shore

That looks like two votes for going the long way round, and one for sneaking through.

Haruuna is away (though still logging in!? Possibly using a phone like I did when on holiday), so unless Siliwen can convince the others to try the stealth approach, you'll be takin' the long way.

Re: Garstone Shore

I'll go for sneaking through if it doesn't seem too dangerous, although given Lyra wears armour...

Re: Garstone Shore

Yeah, I'd probably fail horribly with that armor.

And I'd just slow you guys down if we had to run, being that I move twenty feet and you guys probably all go your full thirty.

Re: Garstone Shore

Running away is one of my least favourite parts of D&D - most people run at exactly the same speed, and worse, most monsters move faster than 20 feet per round!

Incidentally, real well made armour doesn't hinder the wearer much at all in terms of speed and agiity, but it certainly would cause more fatigue.

Re: Garstone Shore

Yeah! That's the worst! I usually play barbarians or rangers, so I really haven't had to worry about armor encumbrance.  And it's not that bad compared to full-plate.

It's too bad masterwork doesn't reduce the speed penalty, then.  :D

Re: Garstone Shore

Heh, speed increases are more the order of the day for you then!

I would actually argue that only badly made armour might reduce speed - but its not something I'm going to houserule since it's one of the tradeoffs for heavy armour and it's just a quirk of D&D rather than something that makes a big difference to the setting. Start messing with armour like that and I might as well overhaul the whole armour/HP system...which wouldn't be a bad thing but is too much work ^^

Re: Garstone Shore

Yeah, I know.  It's a good trade off.  You're harder to hit but slower moving, and if you're in armor like that you have ways to get around the speed reduction.  The easiest way is to get a horse, or if you're up there in the levels, to get mithril.

You know, what we could do is toss Milo's souless husk into the den of spiders.  Let him be the fodder, then we'll all just run! ;P

Re: Garstone Shore

MW armor should in all truth well fitted well made  armor is much less combersome and affects dex. less that than just plain armor.

Re: Garstone Shore

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that taking armour heavier than medium is usually quite sub-optimal, or at least that a better idea is to focus on dexterity. But then again, I really don't like optimisation - people are varied!

Aye Siliwen, that's why MW armours get reduced check penalties.

Worth noting that I consider some magic weapons and armour to just be like master-masterwork items in a sense - I don't buy into the idea that the magic makes you a better fighter; it's just that because magic has been used to make or to better balance or sharpen the weapon or armour, it's easier to use.

Re: Garstone Shore

Initiatives please! I will resolve actions in iniative rather than post order; please consider describing more than one rounds worth of actions, with conditions.

Siliwen is around 160 feet ahead of the group at this point.

Re: Garstone Shore

Oh don't worry, it's just evening things out - usually it loves the players and hates me!

I didn't make that clear, sorry: if any of your actions need a roll then yes, please feel free to roll in advance, including damage if needed.

Up to three rounds worth of actions is a good amount - if you post fewer than that you risk losing a round or two if everyone else posts more actions. However, if the situation changes and isn't covered by something like 'if I kill the one I'm attacking, I'll move to protect Bill' then I'll allow a chance to catch up.

Also if you roll in advance the rolls only apply if you do end up taking those actions, no storing up natural 20s ;)

Re: Garstone Shore

Sorry for teh short post.  I would've doen more but I'm very tired and I have a head ache.  So...

Damn, and I just so happened to get two crits...and failed the confirm critical.

1st round: Sprint toward Siliwen as fast as I can.  (If I can't draw my weapons I'll do so as I get there.  )

2nd Round: Use my Shield Block on the first enemy to make itself apparent, and then attack and try and cover Siliwen (Or spend a movment to try and get to her If havent already and the conditions allow for it). (natural twenty for this round's attack, confirm crit 7; Damage 8)

3rd round: Either attack, or retreat if the odds look good to do so.  Probably be better to attack.  (critical, 19+5=24, for this attack, confirm crit 12; Damage 5)

ahhh, done.

Re: Garstone Shore

Ah, I put all my dicerolls in a private GM message. Basically I'm trying to circle around the movement so I can get a clear shot at in, and then, if it's hostile, shoot it repeatedly.

Not sure if it's a valid sneak attack or not, if it isn't I would lose 3 damage (or could just reroll the dice.) Got a crit on my first attack and missed the others, natch.
