Re: Posting Conventions
I have had an excellent question via PM and I thought that I would answer it here for everyone's benefit.
Question: How much freedom do your characters have in game?
Answer:
You have complete freedom as long as you accept the consequences of your actions. There are laws in the Galaxy, and there are rules and guidelines, even in the Underworld. If you disobey them or bring attention to yourselves in an unacceptable way, then you will face repercussions for your actions. If you have questions about specific actions, your characters can make Knowledge checks to see if they can determine whether the particular course of action might have unpleasant consequences.
The NPCs in this game that I am gradually introducing are all from a tabletop game I ran for two and half years. For the most part, they have histories, motivations, personalities, quirks, etc. They are fleshed-out and as complicated as any of the PCs. Expect them to behave as if they have more than two dimensions and you'll be in good shape.
I still expect you to act within your character's personality as was presented in your background.
If you character is a former senator who strongly believes in the laws of the Republic, but you are working for Kienaan because you need protection, then you should still behave like a person who respects laws. I believe that characters change over time, though, so prolonged influence of the criminal element is probably going to affect your morality and over time, you may choose to react to what your character experiences by choosing to portray him as conforming more strictly to the laws as a reaction, or as losing some of his beliefs that laws are so important.
Different characters are starting at different places along the spectrum, which is fine. It will provide excellent RP as you interact and realize where you stand in relation to one another and exert you influence.
So, to reiterate, do what feels right for your character and there's no artificial boundary to that out of character.
