Day 4/5 - Imperial Base/Sienar Complex

Imperial Base

The Imperials are using the Sienar Fleet Systems complex as a base of operations. It's a large office complex, not exactly meant for military occupation, although it does have a secure perimeter.

For something they came up with on short notice, Kala felt that the plan was sound. She would play the role of a terrified woman, being brought in by an imperial officer for who knew what. Hopefully, they could secure Kaiten and bring him back safely.

As with any mission nerves could be fraught and tensions high. Narik kept his calm however but was silent until the landspeeder reached the destination.

At the outskirts of the base he waved a hand to order the landspeeder forward and across the perimeter. Narik kept an air of imperviousness; he avoided any communication and feinted a cold demeanour.

Re: Day 4/5 - Imperial Base/Sienar Complex

The first few checkpoints, manned by a quartet of stormtroopers apiece are navigated by the pilot of the vehicle, aided by Aadun's forged identification code cylinders and orders.

They are directed to the rear loading dock of an office building, the basement of which is being used as a detention area. At the dock, a pair of Imperial Fleet Security officers are standing guard in their black uniforms. They look bored, but become more alert as the landspeeder pulls up to the platform.

Re: Day 4/5 - Imperial Base/Sienar Complex

Remaining calm Narik watched impassively as they manoeuvred their way into the centre of the Imperial base. They’d be no going back now he thought to himself. The sight of stormtroopers and Imperial officers were a reminder for the deserter that if they were revealed as impostors just how much trouble they would be in.

Aware that no one else would come to Kaiten’s aid if they didn’t Narik stepped out of the landspeeder. It was also true that the Jedi however strong would probably betray them when under interrogation. He gave a curt order to the driver of the landspeeder telling him to remain in position until he returned. Narik then roughly grabbed Kala and dragged her from the speeder. With a hand on Kala’s arm he pulled her toward the office block.

He marched his captive toward he two Imperial Fleet Security officers “this alien he spat the word out with intolerant zeal “is to be educated in the correct respect to show its superiors” he grinned with cruelty “I will escort it to the detention cells personally” he explained as he pushed her forward and into a position in between the guards.

Kala for her part, played the role of a scared alien in an imperial officer's hands. Her eyes were big, and a tear or two could be seen as she was shoved along by Narik. "I didn't do anything, I swear!" She said, as he pushed her foward.

A quick look at Narik's rank insignia prompts the two guards to snap to attention. "Yes sir, right away. Anything the Commander needs?"

One of the guards gives Kala a look of distaste at her protestations of innocence. It's clear he doesn't think she's innocent of anything and wouldn't care even if she were.

"The Inquisitor is returning shortly to take the other prisoners back to the ships, sir. They're all in sub-basement B2, if that's where you'll be taking this one," the other guard volunteers, trying to be helpful.

Outwardly he acknowledged the soldier’s aid with a nod “I need to left undisturbed” Narik made his intentions clear “remain at your posts” he commanded them as he lead Kala into the building and went in search of a turbolift to the basement.

The two guards leave Narik to escort the prisoner.

There's a service elevator about five meters down the wide corridor. A quick inspection reveals that it accesses sub-basement 2 as well as all the floors up to the fifth.

Walking to the turbolift Narik retained his grip on Kala. He held her bag in his other hand. The soldier wondered what it held, possibly some kind of weapon or bomb. Unsure if they were being observed Narik resisted any urge to reassure Kala or communicate with her in any way.

Before stepping into the lift Narik quickly scanned the hallway for directions to any emergency exit or stairwell. He didn’t want to arouse any suspicions by using the stairs to reach the basement but he wanted to know where they were located in case they would need to use them to escape.

In the lift Narik set the controls for sub-basement 2. He then proceeded to take Kala to the detention cells.

Narik notes the emergency stairs are across from the turbolift, but closer to the entrance to the loading docks.

The ride down the turbolift is short and the door opens on a pair of stormtroopers, weapons pointed at the pair. "Identification, please," says a voice from outside the lift that they can't see.

A lieutenant walks into view, careful not to get in the line of fire. He's holding a code cylinder scanner. "Commander, if you'd please interface your rank cylinder here as verification," he tells Narik.

Crunch time. Narik didn’t sweat it. He’d had blasters pointed at him before. There was still a risk that things would get ugly. Narik knew the stormtroopers would want to keep him contained until he identified himself and any suspicious move now despite his assumed rank of Commander would be met with force.

“Lieutenant” he acknowledged the officer with a degree of respect as he held out his id for verification.

Narik had not known if the uniform and ID would actually work. When it did he was relieved. He searched the lieutenant’s face for any sign of deception. Perhaps the ID hadn’t actually worked and he was being lead into a trap.

With his left hand Narik pushed Kala in front of him and escorted her down the hallway and away from the presence of the stormtroopers and the Lieutenant. Next they had to find Kaiten, they could probably discover which cell he was in at the processing desk.

Following the lieutenant's directions, they arrive at what appears to be a break room in a storage area. A desk has been set up and a pair of stormtroopers, helmets off, are eating products from a vending machine in the far corner of the room.

A very bored lieutenant looks up at them, very interested when he sees Kala. "Oh, another prisoner for transport to the ship, Commander?" he asks, taking in Narik's rank quickly enough. "There's a bit of paperwork to fill out and we'll take her off your hands, sir."

“Lieutenant” Narik greeted the officer with customary decorum “as you wish” he consented to the delay as he stopped at the desk to perform any needed checks and file any paperwork. As he completed the task he engaged the officer in conversation “before the prisoner is transported I still have to conclude my interrogation. It will not take much time and I will endeavour to not cause any disturbance. I will complete my business in her appointed cell” the official request made Narik smiled and relaxed. Casually he enquired about Kaiten’s whereabouts “is the Jedi still here?”

"That's... irregular, sir. I'm sure the Inquisitor can handle questioning when he gets them to them to the ship," the Lieutenant says as he walks Narik through the paperwork and forms.

"It's not outside of regulations, though. You're the Commander. Please sign in here, then. The guard will show you to an interrogation room. We're short on space and having to use small storage closets as holding cells. They're the only rooms which secure from the outside. Too cramped for conversation."

A stormtrooper on duty walks up behind Narik and Kala at the Lieutenant's signal. "There are a half-dozen 'Jedi' down there. I don't see any evidence of it, myself, but the Inquisitor's apprentice sniffed them out and so they're here."

Re: Day 4/5 - Imperial Base/Sienar Complex

Half a dozen Jedi? These inquisitors obviously meant business, although they probably weren’t Jedi at all, poor sods. If they couldn’t single out where Kaiten was being held they’d probably end up releasing all of them.

Narik followed the directions offered. When they reached the interrogation room Narik pushed Kala in and then instructed the stormtrooper to follow her “I’ll need your assistance a moment to secure the prisoner” he closed the door to seal the three of them in. He then signalled for the stormtrooper to restrain Kala, then once the stormtrooper’s hands were engaged with holding Kala rather than defending himself or wielding a blaster Narik moved into action.

Although the soldier was now approaching his middle years he was well trained and disciplined. Swiftly he bent at the waist and swung his body to throw himself out of balance. In a swirling movement his right foot kicked high in the air, aiming to kick the stormtrooper in the head.

OOC I know I shouldn’t presume the stormtrooper will fall for the trick but I’ve rolled Narik’s attack in the hope that he does.

Without giving the stormtrooper the opportunity to retaliate or call for aid Narik continued his beating. Turning a half circle Narik twisted his body around as his right leg began its descent, flipping his left leg up to connect with the stormtrooper’s back. Knocking his opponent off his feet and to the ground.

The conflict must have only lasted seconds and Narik hadn’t had to push himself too hard. It was only the beginning however. Narik began to strip the stormtrooper of his armour and weapons “we won’t have much time until they notice he’s missing. Whatever you’ve got in that bag get it ready. It might not be so quick to incapacitate both the stormtrooper and Lieutenant”.

When the stormtrooper was stripped Narik began to dress himself in the armour “can you find something to bind him?” he asked Kala as he got himself ready “I don’t want him coming around and signalling the alarm”.

OOC I'm hoping that's enough to knock the trooper out. I'll edit post if not.

Kala nodded, and looked around for something to secure the stormtrooper with. Binders or something he was carrying. Once she had found something, she went into her bag, and turned away from Narik. SHe had done this so when she began to undo her shirt, he wouldn't be too embarassed. From the bag, she pulled out some kind of modified holster, that slid around her torso, and snaked it's way up. The other thing she pulled out was a metal cylinder, which she clipped to the holster, before straightening her hair over the whole affair. A few moments later, and she had fixed herself up, and turned around. "I'd prefer a pistol, if he has a spare."

The stormtrooper goes down to Narik's second hit. He clatters to the floor making too much noise for comfort, but there are no sounds in the hallway to indicate that others heard.

The stormtrooper was only carrying his rifle, slung over his shoulder. Kala recalls that the Lieutenant at the desk had a pistol sidearm, though. The stormtrooper's binding cuffs, which would have been used to secure Kala now are used on him, instead.

The room layout is such that there is a desk by the door where a bored lieutenant is sitting. In the far corner of the break room, there is a small table where two off-duty stormtroopers are having snacks. The solo stormtrooper is currently out of his armor and bound in what would have been Kala's cell.

Narik, you've got two options for that attack. Either 1) Attack the Officer alone, or 2) You can get both of the off-duty stormtroopers.

And don't forget that there is another lieutenant with a pair of stormtroopers about 30 meters away, at the elevator. They're definitely going to hear blaster fire.

Re: Day 4/5 - Imperial Base/Sienar Complex

I’d love to do this another way but I’m running low on ideas.

The problem as I see it is that there’s at least three more Imperials that need to be silenced whilst we release the prisoners then think about trying to transport them somewhere else.

Since you’re being kind enough to offer options I’m assuming if we try to shoot our way out we’re bound to lose against the sheer number of stormtroopers we’ll be forced to face, so we need a plan.

Here’s the best I can think of on the spot.

Narik now has an Imperial comlink (the one installed in the stormtrooper helmet) and will presumably be able to learn from it what frequency the base communications are set to. With his toolkit could he use his comlink to jam the others? So he and Kala could attempt to subdue the three nearest opponents without them raising the alarm. Two versus three they might stand a chance and avoid the need to use blasters. Does Kala reckon she could handle the officer whilst Narik combated the pair of troopers?

Any other ideas? What do you think of that one?

Varis is providing a distraction about now. Time is not flowing the same in all threads. The point of the diversion is to draw off a large portion of those innumerable stormtroopers which might kick your butt.

Jamming the comlink could be done, I believe. However, it might also serve to block the incoming message that they're needed elsewhere when it comes.

Well if the comlink can be jammed I think it’s worth a shot. It would only have to be temporary; once the nearby enemies had been subdued the comlink could be returned to normal.

I was hoping Kala could deal with the officer without using the blaster, but if she had to we just have to be quick so we didn’t get overrun when the other two stormtroopers and the other lieutenant come to investigate. Kala will be the obvious target as well, as Narik is in stormtrooper armour it won’t be easy for any of the Imperials to know who to attack. If Kala felt better equipped with a weapon rather than her fists she could try using a tool i.e. fusion cutter or power prybar as a weapon.

As he worked he talked with Kala regarding their plans “Follow behind me, when we attack we need to silence them all. I will attack the stormtroopers; stop the officer raising the alarm, if possible without using the blaster” when Narik had done as much as he could with the comlink he fitted the helmet on and lead Kala out.

Narik takes the first stormtrooper by surprise. His unarmed strike sends the man reeling, but doesn't down him, quite.

The officer sneers at Kala. "Not on your life, chicky. If it's you or the Inquisitor, I'll take my chances with you."

Then he draws his own blaster pistol, pointing it at Kala and depresses the emergency alert on his comlink. In his headset, Narik hears the alert go out. Apparently his jamming of the signal didn't work. [Private to Narik: I figure the DC 20 on electronic devices was the base DC you were trying to get. You only rolled a 15 on the Mechanics check, though.]

OOC: I don't think standing from a chair would provoke an AoO. It just isn't the same as being prone.

Also, I know it has been awhile since we did combat, but it helps things if you post rolls and combat actions in red while keeping OOC to orange.

With the stormtroopers eliminated Narik uprighted his rifle flicked the autofire switch off, he then supported the rifle on his shoulder and blasted the officer. Narik had been trained in the use of all weapons and the rifle was as familiar to him as his usual blaster pistols. He teased the trigger and fired twice in quick succession.

Trained to keep on the move to avoid becoming a target Narik moved into an advantageous position as soon as he’d completed his shot. Kala's attack is a hit, but the lieutenant stoically staggers through the door and out of their line of sight. To make matters worse, the other stormtroopers and lieutenant have arrived as well. They take position outside the door, trapping Kala and Narik in the break room. The only way out is through that door and there is a stormtrooper on either side of it.

Trapped. It was a desperate situation, but whilst Narik calculated the odds of a successful escape he heard the announcement that reinforcements would be delayed. The soldier didn’t pass any message onto Kala, he would rather keep the knowledge that he was eavesdropping to himself than declare it.

He considered his circumstances, if they had been in a military garrison he would have felt worse. The complex was not designed for combat and he hoped that all of the combatants were only vaguely familiar with its layout.

With only one route out they needed to improvise. Narik swivelled his rifle around and switching back to autofire attempted to blast a hole in the wall.

Xander gets the helmet off once Kala has his bindings removed. He rubs his eyes, trying to clear up his vision and stands on wobbly legs. Once getting his feeling back in them as quick as he can, he looks to her and the 'stormtrooper' standing there."Wait..who are you? A jedi?" His eyes seem to light up slightly, bright blue as well then fade to normal."We need to get out of here and fast. I'm Flynn, Xander Flynn. Let me get my gear so we can get out of this place. And thanks for the removal of the bindings. They were not fun." He looks around quickly and glances down the hall both ways to see if anyone was coming."I know where the items are." If no enemies seem to be around closebye, the man bolts for his gear-some knives that he sheathes on his back criss-cross, a trenchcot-like jacket with hood, two other items he slips into his sleeves quickly and some other items he grabs fast and he slips his shades on.

Narik stayed close to Kala as she opened the cell door. Inside he saw the seated figure; the helmeted figure could have been mistaken for Kaiten but for the worn out and old clothes. It was likely some other unfortunate victim.

When Kala moved to free the man Narik remained near the door, watching for any pursuit. After the man was freed and his helmet removed it was confirmed that they would have to look again to find Kaiten. Narik was about to ask the freed prisoner if he knew anything about this fellow inmates when the Xander spoke. The voice was the same as that he had heard inside his own mind. The soldier was shocked. Despite his shock Narik quickly put two and two together “so now that makes two of you” he remarked casually although the seriousness of his predicament now was getting worse all the time. A group of Jedi would be the target of not only the Inquisitor but likely much of the Imperial Fleet he reasoned.

“Any idea where the third is? Goes by the name of Kaiten, or at least that's the name he gave us” he asked Xander.

His earlier good intentions of trying to release every prisoner held had been sorely tested by the earlier gun fire, so now Narik was willing to make sacrifices of any other prisoners if he could at least Kaiten and Xander out successful “if we stay longer we risk none of us escaping at all” he justified. After Narik had freed Kaiten he watched as Kala and Xander rushed off to try and free more prisoners. The soldier didn’t have time to acknowledge Xander but Narik didn’t want to be in possession of the highly illegal and dangerous lightsaber any longer than necessary anyway.

Burdened with the dead weight of Kaiten’s unconscious body Narik started looking for an exit. If Xander and Kala found even one more prisoner and they too were incapacitated or disabled it would be near impossible to carry them as well as Kaiten and successfully escape. It was the sort of logistics and cold calculations that a soldier was trained to make.  Narik tried to remember where the stairs would be and headed in that direction hoping the others would’t be far behind.

Confronted by the stormtrooper guards Narik froze. His pleads of innocence were met by angry shouts. The soldier had lost control of the situation. It unnerved him and the sudden charge by Xander shocked him.

Disoriented and not prepared for fighting the stormtroopers Narik’s attack was slow and clumsy. He moved slowly and his kick at the stormtrooper was easily avoided.

Narik attempts to kick the closest stormtrooper, who is apparently expecting an atack and dodge out of the way. Meanwhile, hearing the commotion, Xander rushes the door and through it with lightning speed to score a hit on the other stormtrooper.

The injured stormtrooper tries to fire at Xander, but misses, while the other one takes a defensive posture.

[Private to Narik: "Command, this is Trooper Serial Number M7F178 at the loading dock. We have the Jedi, but are outnumbered. Send back-up immediately. Over."

A moment later he hears the response, "Trooper, hold them as long as you can, the Inquisitor and his apprentice will be there momentarily. Over."

The overheard comlink communication meant the cat was out of the bag. Speed was primary over subtly. As Narik’s foot touched back on the ground he swung his shoulder and lowered the blaster rifle, letting off a shot a point blank range.

Keeping quiet about the fact that he could hear the Imperial comlink chatter would soon cease to hold any advantage so Narik chose to let it slip. Better that everyone was prepared for what was coming “Inquisitor and apprentice en route” he called out to Xander.

Re: Day 4/5 - Imperial Base/Sienar Complex

When in Narik’s mind Xander came to his senses and boarded the speeder he was ready for the off. He signalled with a fast wave of his hand “go”.

Once the speeder had rushed off Narik kept his rifle readied but lowered. If possible he’d like to get out without fighting through the guards. As Xander began his treatment of Kala he nodded his thanks “look after her but try to keep her out of sight” to the other passengers he spoke briefly “we’re going to try and get you all out of here, it might be a rough ride. Be ready to defend yourself” he warned as they rounded the corner and left the combating Jedi and Sith behind.

The speeder makes it out the gates of the Sienar compound by a few millimeters as Xander works on reviving Kala, and this time, manages to succeed.

It would seem that the diversion was successful, as there are not as many stormtroopers around now as there were when they entered the facility.

Re: Day 4/5 - Imperial Base/Sienar Complex

With a cargo of Jedi aboard Narik knew it was time to fly. The escape from the Sienar Complex had been a close thing and they probably wouldn’t have been successful if not for the intervention of the Bothan Jedi, Narik didn’t want to dwell on that too much the poor sot was likely dead by now.

Their landspeeder and his stormtrooper armour would both soon be targets for suspicion. Narik turned to the driver “straight to the escape vessel. Do we know where that is? we need to prep her for take off and get off planet as a matter of priority”.

Xander double checks Kala's vitals after applying the medical equipment needed. He then shifts and nods to Narik."You have my word that I will let no other harm come to her. I wish her injuries could have been avoided. She's definatly brave, if not perhaps a bit unstable. To take on a Sith and apprentice, to stand her ground...of course I attempted to nonetheless. Intriguing. I thank you for the rescue..."

Inside the speeder Narik removed his armoured helmet and a smile turned his lips upwards as he saw Kala begin to recover. He gave her little time for reflection or discussion of what they had left behind, Narik was intent on getting them all to safety his only concern the future not the past “where's the escape craft?” he demanded from her.

Without directions, the pilot of the speeder simply heads as far away from the scene of the crime as possible, heading deeper into the city. It seems safer to him that way.

He then removed the last of the stormtrooper armour “find somewhere to lie low we’ll contact you on the comlink when we have the location of the ship”.

More gently he looked to Kala “are you up to a meeting with Sinya?”

The speeder arrives there after a circuitous flight through the city in an attempt to throw off pursuit.

Sinya remains calm as she takes the package. She opens it carefully to reveal a code cylinder and another smaller package. She connects the code cylinder to her datapad and then uses headphones to listen to the message.

"Well, I understand... at least.

"Krey'lis believes that he will not survive the fight,"
she says.

"He implemented the escape plan. There's a transport waiting to take you off-world. You'll need to go to the very deepest level of the city. I'll copy the map for you.

"I probably won't see you again, but if you make it back to Ryloth, know that you have an ally here,"
she tells them.

Then she follows through on her words and makes a datadisk for them.

"The contact's name is Leller, a human. The code phrase is 'A ranger's duty is never done.'"

Re: Day 4/5 - Imperial Base/Sienar Complex

The Zeltron and Twi’lek pair talked of much that had been unknown to Narik. The soldier felt he could only grasp at the meaning of what they discussed. He was a soldier trained and understood that some things we on a need to know basis. Narik had no interest in learning more of their hidden agenda. His experience of the galaxy and war left him feeling any seed of rebellion or resurrection of the dead Jedi order would result only in suffering and pain for many of the galaxies inhabitants.

Narik let Sinya hand the datadisk with the map to Kala. This was something Narik would see to the end as he was a man of honour but he would require much persuasion before he believed it was the right thing to do. It sounded as if they had now become traffickers of illegal Force users, not something he would have planned to do.

“We should get away from here as soon as possible” he urged his Zeltron companion. To Sinya he offered sincere thanks “thank you Sinya”. He then sent a comlink message to their speeder to let them know they would be outside in moment with a new destination.
