Day 4/5 - Assassination

Arng and Krysten have the unenviable, vitally important task of planning and executing a political assassination.

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

Krysten removes her helmet for the first time in what seems like days, though it has, in fact been only a few hours.  She gestures to Arng and asks, "So, what information do we have on our deader?"

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

Arng simply shrugs his shoulders.  "Frek if I know.  No one bothered filling me in on any information.  We're going to have to do our own reconnoisance work if we're going to learn anything about our target that can help us accomplish anything with him.", replies Arng.  Notice how he doesn't say anything about making him dead.  He sounds reluctant, like he doesn't want to go through with assassinating someone.

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

"I suggest you get Aadun to do some quick searching. Once the rescue gets started, security is going to be on the alert everywhere in the city.

"I hate the idea of a quick and dirty assassination. Maybe an attempt will be enough, as long as you don't get caught,"
Varis tells the two.

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

"Actually, I was thinking more about an abduction than an assassination.  He may be more valuable to us alive than dead.  We might take photos of him in a compromising position to discredit him.  Or we use him for a bargaining chip.  Or if all else fails, we ransom him back for a huge load of cred and scrub the whole mission.", replies Arng.

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

"Whatever works. If we can get him off planet with us, that's the end of his career anyway if his return is public enough for everyone to know he was kidnapped. After this, no one could trust him because they wouldn't know if we had compromised him somehow," Varis says, thinking aloud.

"Good idea, Arng."

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

"Thanks.", confesses Arng.  "Although kidnapping him means extra work for us.  We need to have a safehouse where we can hide him.  We need several because we will have to keep him moving so his family doesn't catch up with us.  Moving him off-planet would be the safest safehouse of them all if our guys can get us the codes to let us leave the planet.

"To be honest though, I really don't want to turn assassin.  I served my whole life being the bodyguard to a member of a powerful political dynasty.  That man was like a father to me.  So you see, I sympathize too much for our target and for the people we would have to kill to get at him.  That could have been me.  It would be like killing myself... spiritually... in a sense.  How can I explain it?  Ah, well, I've said enough.  You better see the point I'm trying to make here."

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

"Safehouses are out of the question. There's simply no time to set them up. However, Kala's contact has a way off-planet. We'll just have to bring Cotan Distombe along for the ride," Varis says.

"We have a goal. The goal is to destabilize the regime here in order to allow allies of our employer to seize control. If you're able to do that with limited violence and no assassination, then that's just fine by me. If things go wrong, though, I need to know that at least one of you is willing to complete the mission," she finishes, looking between Arng and Krysten.

Krysten nodded.

"Very well.  We will attempt to remove Cotan Distombe alive, if at all possible.  However, should it become necessary, I will ensure he does not survive."

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

"Great. That's settled.

"Now, I'm having Aadun and Xel Lur work on a diversion. We're going to reprogram a number of droids to run rampant, hijack several types of transportation as well as a shuttle from the starport and head into space.

"About the time that happens, we hope that the Imperials are all going to rush to the starport to see who is trying to evade their blockade so blatantly. If we can create enough chaos, it would be the perfect time to kidnap Distombe as well.

"I called in a favor on this one to get his schedule for today. Your best bet to get him will be after a meeting with Imperials at the Sienar compound. He has a press conference to attend, and all eyes will be watching. If he doesn't show up... Half of the work would already be done for us. Between the rumors Aadun has started and this, it will look very bad."

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

Arng pulls out one of his poorly concealed blasters he has hidden under his trenchcoat.  The weapon is an S-5 Security Blaster.  This model of Heavy Blaster is kind of light on the kill setting, but it has a decent stun setting.  But Arng is more interested in its other mountings.  One of which is a dart launcher.  He ejects one of the darts he has loaded in the underbarrel mounting.  "I just need one fairly clean shot to put one of these knock-out darts into him.  It's crude but more effective than a stun setting.  Still, we'll need a pair of Bindercuffs to keep him under control.  Then we can appear to be a pair of bountyhunters bringing in a mark.  Oh yeah, and a headbag.  I'm not too concerned with him seeing us, but with people seeing him.  I take it this guy's face is well-known?  Make it large head-bag.  I hear these Twi's can send messages through their headtails.  I want his covered up as well as his face."

"A gag.  As I recall Twi'leks are pretty resistant to drugs.  He's likely to wake up before we get him back to our transport.", replies Arng to requests for anything else.

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

He then reloads the dart he took out of the dart launcher attached to his heavy blaster.  He reholsters the weapon and remarks, "I should need to get within thirty meters of the target for that to have good penetration, presuming he isn't wearing armor.  I have five of those darts.  That should be enough to do the trick.  If not then we're dealing with a man who has the constitution of a Hutt."

He then takes out his other pistol, which is an Enforcer Heavy Slugthrower.  He pulls back the slide to eject a bullet that falls to the floor with a heavy thunk.  He bends over to pick it up and hold it up to the light.  "If we can't get close enough for the dart launcher, then I prefer this.  The Enforcer uses a special heavy caliber ammunition.  It can be a bit hard to find even in the Core Worlds where you'd think anything can be found.  I prefer the caseless ammunition.  It doesn't weigh as much, doesn't make a rattling noise when it hits the ground, and doesn't leave an incriminating mess that can lead an investigator to me, probabily the only guy on this whole backwater planet that owns an Enforcer.  Unfortunately, the caseless is even harder to find.  It's not waterproof so it has a short shelf life.  Also, unfortunately, I don't have any Mercy Rounds for it.  If you can, Veris, try to find me some Mercy Rounds for my Enforcer.  I don't care if it's caseless or has brass.  I just don't want to kill anyone on this job.", he requests.

"I can have everything in about an hour, I believe. I'll leave you to it. If you have technical questions or need assistance with gathering intel, contact Aadun. He's working on a project, but this is more important," Varis says.

Re: Day 4/5 - Assassination

Krysten nodded, approving of her new partner's look towards preventing any sort of communication from their target.

"Do we know what kind of protection he is going to have?  What kind of vehicle is going to be in?  If it's possible, I'd like to obtain some more rockets for my wrist launcher.  It'll be a big help if we get into more than a passing firefight.  I'd especially like to get two or three hollow-tipped darts filled with an aerosol-based sedative.  If I could get a shot into the immediate area of our target and his bodyguards, we could take them all down at once, grab him and be gone before anyone knows what happened."

Krysten nods, but is confident in her leader's ability to get what she asking for.  She slides her helmet back on, and it settles with the hiss of a hermetically sealed combat unit.

"Very well.  When you return with the information and/or the weapons, I'll be ready to go."
