Important People and Events

In this thread I will keep track of important details that your characters would know. It is generally where I will summarize the chapters once they are completed, as well as describe portions of the game world which differ from the real world.

I have created a post for each of you. This is to edit as you wish, using private or public messages, as you deem appropriate.

Organizations
The Displaced -- an organization of aware mundanes and Shadow creatures whose goal is to help good-aligned Shadow creatures transition into their new world. They provide aid and support to sentient creatures, as well as help tame scared Shadow animals. They are funded from numerous sources, including The Company, which helps to funnel benign Shadow creatures their way.

Unaware mundanes usually mistake The Displaced centers as homeless shelters, and don't realize their real purpose.

Characters

John Burns -- Your boss.

Tobias' Notes

The Displaced -- A subset of The Displaced are worshippers in the Church of Pelor, a religion brought through from the realm of Shadow.

The Enlightenment -- in a recent novel-turned-movie by famed conspiracy author Dan Brown, the main protaganists were called the Enlightenment. You have heard their names in other places as well, but only conspiracy nuts really believe they are real. (Note: This organization replaces the Illuminati).

The Fellowship -- the fellowship is a very ancient, very secret organization dedicated to protecting humanity from the most dangerous elements of Shadow. Their work is similar to that of The Company's, but they take a more "the ends justify the means" approach of doing business that some call ruthless or even borderline evil. They are not afraid to wipe out entire towns to combat a serious threat from the Shadow.

The Fraternal Order of Vigilance -- A somewhat recent movie American Treasure focused around the theme that the organization to which many of our founding fathers belonged, the FOV, was really a super-secret organization charged with hiding the lost treasure from the Knights Templar. Many different conspiracies surround this organization, and you know that all of them are untrue. (The FOV replaces the Masons in the real world).

Re: Xavier's Notes

Black Feathers -- A group dedicated to eradicating urban sprawl and industrial pollution. They make it onto the news every couple of years for trying to burn down housing developments or sending suspicious packages to CEOs of particularly pollution-inclinded companies.

Chapter 1: Signs from God

The group is called to Ford, Montana to investigate a series of animal attacks of a suspicious nature. The mayor, Jed Owen, was the first victim, which prompted an emergency election for his replacement. Solomon Burke, a preacher at the Fellowship of the Common Path Church, Earl Lindscomb, beloved owner of the town's one and only hardware store, and Trent Barton, the not-so-beloved owner of the town's one and only bank, all joined in the Mayoral race. Unfortunately, Earl was also killed by the mysterious animal, as was a farm hand, Bill Elgin.

On the heroes' way to town, they noticed mysterious circles of dead crops in some of the fields. After arriving in town and checking into the illustrious Chicken Ranch (run by a buxom blond woman known as Miss Mona), the three went their separate ways to investigate.

Tobias investigated the crop circles. He found that they were all perfect circles 30ft in diameter, but could find no cause, mundane or magical. He then joined Adele, who was investigating the latest body. She had similar luck.

Frank, meanwhile, surveyed the town. He met "Mrs. Earl", Earl Lindscomb's wife, who showed her distaste for the competency of the police force. He then went to the general store, where he finds an old lady who is distrusting of Solomon, and another old lady who talks Franks ear off about... not much in particular.

Frank then visited Trent Barton, toward whom several townspeople had shown distrust. Trent didn't say much that wasn't approved by his (very expensive) campaign manager. Lastly, Frank went to visit Solomon, who gave Frank the heebee jeebees, but didn't say anything particularly damning. (Heh, get it?)

Frank joined Tobias and Adele, and they discovered tracks leading from the body, but weren't good enough trackers to follow them. The three of them visited Sasparilla's Tavern, where a couple of yokels suggested the town's Sheriff, Glen McGray, might be able to help.

Glen is able to follow the tracks to the woods, where the group encounters a group of zombies sent by Solomon in the hope he could scare away the pesky investigators. The team easily dispatches them, and calms down Glen when he realizes that the paranormal is real.

The four of them go to visit Solomon, who tries to throw off the heroes, but it betrayed by the yowling displacer beast chained in his office. The team convinces Solomon's bodyguard Larry to flip to their side, and the five battle Solomon and his beast. They dispatch the beast back to it's home plane, capture the preacher, injured but alive, and then the Retcon Dons hide any evidence that the team was there.

Tobias finds several spells, including a ritual that Solomon was researching with help from someone else, and Frank discovers that the displacer beast was sent to Solomon by someone named "Reverend Paul" and using the domain name of the Fellowship of the Common Path Church.

Chapter 2: Portal

After a fitful night's sleep full of cryptic dreams, Frank, Tobias, and Sean wake up to find an even more cryptic note scrawled next to their beds. Then their phones ring with their next assignment: go the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington D.C.

When they arrive at the hotel, the group discovers that their assignment was predicted by the ESP Division. A serial killer of children named Mr. Monday is (or more accurately, will be) on the loose in the suburbs of Washington D.C. ESP-D can not give much more than vague, foreboding glimpses into the nature of the crimes, and what clues they give are barely enough to form a strategy. But on thing is clear: the first child will be kidnapped in only two days. The group decides to split up to save time, with Frank investigating a lead at St. Elizabeths Hospital, and Tobias and Sean checking out the connection to the 4th victim, Henry Leyden.

Sean and Tobias discover that Henry and is family are shadow humans, that is, humans from another plane. Henry's mother is very sick, and while the agents are present, she has some sort of psychotic break. She had previously warned Henry to avoid the "low men" who are looking for him, then scratches at the wall hard enough to draw blood from her fingers. Henry's father decides to take her to her regular doctor at St. Elizabeths. Sean somehow gets lost on the way to the car, never to be seen again, but Tobias heads out to meet up with Frank at a place called Frank's Hot Dog Shaque.

Meanwhile, Frank finds a former FBI partner, who is committed in St Elizabeths. David Mathers is diagnosed with schizophrenia, but more accurately he exists as two people at once, each with a foot in a different plane. Frank manages to mete out some sense from the nonsense: Mr. Monday is after Henry Leyden, and when he finds the boy he will take him to an alternate version of the White House, called the Black House. He also learns that Henry has some sort of power, one which is contrary to Mr. Monday's purpose, and one which makes saving Henry a matter of saving the universe.

Frank and Tobias arrive at the "Shaque" has long since been closed due to a fire. After "defeating" an illusory dog, they investigate the premises. They soon discover that a dilapidated bathroom stall door is actually a portal to a long, sterile hallway. Most of the doors in the hallway open to a Void, however, one door in the hallway is a portal leads to a hallway in a hospital, quite possibly St Elizabeths. The only only other door that leads anywhere takes Frank and Tobias into a sort of Bizarro version of the White House.

In the anti-Cabinet room the agents discover a box full of Little Green Army Men. Only these men are not toys, they are somehow alive at carry real weapons that deal real damage. Just when things are looking incredibly grim Tobias suddenly remembers the strange words from his dream he shouts them and they turn out to be a rare language known by the Army Men. They are the True Name of someone known as the Crimson King. Using this accidental knowledge, Frank manages to trick the soldiers into believing that the agents work for the King — at least enough so that they dare not risk continuing their attack. The soldiers heal our heroes as best they can then take them to the Oval Office to see Mr. Monday.

Mr. Monday, in a soliloquy that bores the hell out of Tobias, explains his purpose: to destroy the bonds that hold the Crimson King captive, thereby releasing him and along with it all that is evil in the universe. A bloody fight breaks out between the agents and Mr. Monday, with the Little Green Army Men being used as weapons, their allegiance now to the one who makes the best argument. Tobias and Frank are forced to retreat, but quickly return with reinforcements.

Their work done for the day, Tobias and Frank return to the "real world" to a steaming plate of wings and a cold drink. But an ominous newscast leaves them unnerved...
