Character Creation

If you are accepted into the game, you may then wish to start thinking about more detailed character creation. I would suggest you discuss your characters however, and try to create the most balanced party possible as I won't be pulling punches when it comes to combat! - When everyone's in I will create a seperate thread to facilitate this. I can say a friend of mine has the first place and will be playing a Gnome Sorcerer, so the spellcaster role is fairly well covered.

Please note I will be giving out bonus experience to interesting, well thought out and generally well written character backgrounds, personalities and descriptions. So take your time because if you impress me enough, you could start the game on the way towards level 2 without even swinging a sword! This is the same for when the actual game starts too - I will be giving out bonus exp for good roleplay and well written descriptions of your character's actions. I don't want this game to simply be a grind with my players logging on, typing in their single line: Araketh swings his sword at the goblin. And then logging off again. I want it to be like a well-written, well thought out story, only a story that you guys can change and manipulate as you see fit.

Character Creation:

Books I own: PHB, PHB2, DMG, DMG2m MM 1-5 (All 3.5), The FRCS, The Players Guide to Faerun (Note that the PGF overrides the FRCS where applicable), Races of Faerun (FR), The Underdark (FR), Lords of Darkness (FR), Monsters of Faerun (FR), Faiths & Pantheons (FR), Magic of Faerun (FR), Power of Faerun (FR), Champions of Valour (FR), Champions of Ruin (FR), Fiend Folio, Book of Exalted Deeds, Arms and Equipment Guide, The Complete Warrior, The Complete Scoundrel, The Complete Adventurer, The Complete Mage, The Complete Champion, Unearthed Arcana, Draconomicon, Book of Exalted Deeds, Book of Vile Darkness, Savage Species, Races of the Wild, Sword and Fist, Tome of Battle, Oriental Adventures, Erotic Fantasy, The Book of Undead – If you want to use something, whether it be a feat, prestige class, spell etc. from any of these books, just give me a name and page reference and I’ll look it up. If it’s not in these books then I’ll need you to copy the whole description from whatever book it is and send it to me. Obviously stuff from the FR books is likely to be accepted, I'll have to check extras from outside the FR books to make sure it fits with the setting but there's a good chance I'll say yes.

Level: 1
Races Permitted: Standard races from the PHB/Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting/Races of Faerun – I may consider more unusual FR races but you’ll have to run them by me first. The game is level 1 so obviously no races with an LA (Level Adjustment).
Classes: Standard PHB. Others, such as the Swashbuckler and Samurai from Complete Warrior, will most likely be allowed, just run it by me first. If you’re gearing towards a particular prestige class in the future, run it by me as well.
HP: Max HP at level 1 obviously adding your CON modifier. Every level thereafter HP will be rolled for.
Region: I will be using the regional special rules on page 30-31 of the FRCS for extra feats, languages and bonus equipment, so you must give your character a region of origin. If you do not have access to the FRCS, consult with me and I’ll help you pick one.
Feats: Any from the standard books or the FRCS. Feats from other books need to be run by me first.
Skills: Standard. Again, check if it’s anything unusual.
Alignments: No chaotic evil.
Abilities: 32 Point Buy
Equipment: Maximum starting money (class-determined) from the PHB. Use that to buy your equipment. You also start with a bonus regional equipment choice (p11 Player's Guide to Faerun)

I will also be utilising the Trait & Flaw rules from Unearthed Arcana. This should help to flesh out your character and I will be giving bonus exp if you roleplay your character with these traits/flaws in mind - not that you have to take any if you do not wish to. Your character may have up to 2 character traits and 1 (not 2 as described in the book) flaw. If you don't have access to the book I have provided the list here:

Traits

Traits from Unearthed Arcana are allowed, and they allow for further
customization of a character. You can pick up to 2 traits from the list below
and apply the appropriate modifiers to your PC. Traits must be chosen at the
time of character creation. List traits as you would feats on your PC sheet,
with the trait name and the modifiers given by that trait. Traits are
optional. The effects of these traits should be roleplayed where possible.

-Abrasive (+1 on Intimidate, -1 on Diplomacy and Bluff)
-Absent-Minded (+1 on Knowledge, -1 on Listen and Spot)
-Aggressive (+2 initiative, -1 Armor Class)
-Brawler (+1 on unarmed attacks, -1 on weapon attacks) Does not apply
when character also has Improved Unarmed Strike
-Cautious (+1 dodge bonus to armor class whenever you fight defensively or take
the total defense action. You take a -1 to saves vs. fear effects) Cannot
select if character has immunity to fear
-Detached (+1 on will saves, -1 on reflex saves)
-Dishonest (+1 on Bluff, -2 on Diplomacy; non-lawfuls)
-Easygoing (+1 on Gather Information, -1 on Intimidate and Sense Motive)
-Farsighted (+1 on Spot, -2 on Search)
-Focused (+1 on Concentration, -1 on Spot and Listen)
-Hard of Hearing (+1 on Spot, -2 on Listen)
-Hardy (+1 on fortitude saves, -1 on reflex saves)
-Honest (+1 on Diplomacy, -1 on Bluff and Sense Motive; no chaotic-evils)
-Musclebound (+1 on all strengh checks, -2 on all dexterity checks)
-Nearsighted (+1 on Search, -1 on Spot)
-Nightsighted (+10 feet on darkvision, -1 on Spot in bright light) Need
to have darkvision
-Passionate (+1 on fortitude saves, -1 on will saves)
-Plucky (+1 on will saves, -1 on fortitude saves)
-Polite (+1 on Diplomacy, -2 on Intimidate)
-Quick (+10 feet on movement, -1 hp/level) CON >= 4

-Relentless (+2 on saves vs. tiring; if fail, are exhausted)
-Saddleborn (+1 on Ride, -1 on Handle Animal)
-Skinny (+1 on Escape Artist, -2 to avoid being knocked over)
-Slippery (+1 on escape artist checks against being grappled, -1 all other
grapple checks.)
-Slow (+1 hp/level, halve movement speed) Base land speed >= 20
-Stout (+2 to avoid being knocked over, -1 on Escape Artist)
-Suspicious (+1 on Sense Motive, -1 on Diplomacy and Intimidate)
-Torpid (+1 on saves vs. enchantments, -2 on initiative)
-Uncivilized (+1 on Handle Animal / Wild Empathy, -1 on Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather
Information)

Character Flaws

Flaws from Unearthed Arcana are allowed, and they allow for further
customization of a character. A character may select up to one flaw at
character creation. Each flaw a player selects entitles his/her character to a
bonus feat that he/she qualifies for. In other words, when you create a
character, and select a flaw, you can also take an extra bonus feat beyond
those your character would normally be entitled to. Flaws are optional. The
effects of these flaws should be roleplayed where possible.

-Feeble
You are unathletic and uncoordinated
-2 penalty on STR, DEX, and CON-based ability checks and skill checks

-Frail
You are thin and weak of frame
Subtract 1 from the number of hit points you gain at each level. This flaw can
reduce the number of hit points you gain to 0 (but not below). You must have a
Constitution of 4 or higher to take this flaw.

-Inattentive
You are particularly unaware of your surroundings
-4 Penalty to Listen and Spot checks

-Meager Fortitude
You are sickly and weak of stomach
-3 penaly on Fortitude saves

-Murky-Eyed
Your vision is obscured
In combat, every time you attack an opponent that has concealment, roll your
miss chance twice.  If either or both results indicate that you miss, your
attack fails

-Noncombatant
You are relatively inept at melee combat
-2 penalty to melee attack rolls

-Pathetic
You are weaker in an attribute than you should be
Reduce one of your ability scores by 2; you cannot take this Flaw if the total
of your ability modifiers is 8 or higher.

-Poor Reflexes
You often zig when you should have zagged
-3 penalty to Reflex saves

-Shaky
You are relatively poor at ranged combat
-2 penalty on all ranged attack rolls

-Slow
You move exceptionally slowly
Base land speed is halved (round down to nearest 5-foot interval); you must
have a base land speed of at least 20 feet to take this flaw

-Unreactive
You are slow to react to danger
-6 penalty on initiative checks

-Vulnerable
You are not good at defending yourself
-1 penalty to Armor Class

-Weak Will
You are highly suggestible and easily duped
-3 penalty on Will saves

Re: Character Creation

LEVEL UPS

Ok since many of you will have reached level 2 with the latest instalment of exp, here are some pointers to go by if you are making changes to your character. As a DM I am very open to you guys exploring all the source material that's out there to guide your chars towards interesting Prestige Classes, dual classes and so on. However I won't allow a character to suddenly have an ability there was no evidence they had before. For instance if a character wanted to dual class to a mage, I would have needed to see evidence of them making an effort to learn the art of spellcasting way before they levelled up, they couldn't just out of the blue have a magic ability.

The same goes for feats and a lesser extent skills, I will need to see proof in roleplay that your character has been making steps to try and learn a particular feat before you can take it.

As usual, please check any non-core feats/PRCs/abilities with me first before you start building your characters towards them. I will most likely allow anything but I still want to check it over first to make sure it won't have a negative impact on the game.

Cheers.
