The dragon ship leaves the port in Mesmembria with out incident. The winds are strong and after a few hours the rowers are able to rest as the sails take over and the ship sails north up the coast.

Around noon, one of the crew shouts..."I see three sails to the north." Both Thorfinn and Dobryny spot the sails as well but seem not to be worried about them. This was a fairly busy stretch of sea and there were always ships running along the coast north and south.

An hour later both the captain and his first mate begin to look nervous...the ships are closer and they have spread out as if to trap your ship. They can be seen clearly now. Definitely ships of the Rus, smaller and much faster, each look to hold about two dozen men.
