(Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

Jormungandr is a mass of deep, black, silencing sea. The edges of the water of Jormungandr are scattered with giant skeletons, likely belonging to large deep sea creatures. The major part of Jormungandr lies beneath the blackened sea, an underwater city long withstanding the decay and chaos of the creatures that live within. The city of Jormungandr has long, extremely wide open halls and passageways, that could host more than 10 times the cities population each. The only part of Jormungandr that can be occupied above land is a long, water rotted pier, that extends no longer than 50 metres into the sea of Jormungandr.

The Humboldt are long ancient gigantic squid, that have endured the chaotic depths of the Jormungandr. The Humboldt are incredibly resistant beings, toughened by the constant struggle for life in the abyssal silence of the sea.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

Konung took his seat at his mighty throne in the undercity of Jormungandr. He observed the beauty of his realm. The dark, abyssal crevices in the floor of the sea, the deafening silence of the infinitely heavy water was divine in his ears. He took about swimming around his crumbling, delapidated ocean fortress, and held despair in his mind, for once, the city of Jormungandr was mighty and powerful recognition. The black obsidian pillars that once struck against the sun were now worn down, and crumbled. The once mighty halls of the Humboldt people had seen the most vicious of the beasts that lay in the waters of Jormungandr, and had fallen victim to their wrath. Konung decided that it was time for change, time to prosper, time to restore Jormungandr to its former might, and have the city once more rise to glory.

He swam to the surface of the water with haste, bursting through, and landing on the pier.

"Fear, me .." he whispered.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

The clouds were dark. The realm was silent, the only sound being the lapping of cold waves upon rotten wood. The moon was out, great and grim, it's sickening yellow cast upon the waters. The air was cold to Konung's touch.

There was someone else on the pier.

A small, old man was fishing.

Off the rotting pier.

He looked towards Konung and smiled.

This was unusual.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

It was heavy.. heavy.. and then, with a mighty splash, it was thrown out of the water onto the pier. It was a crustacean, bone-white, covered in dark blue watermoss..

No.

It was not a crustacean.

It was bone.

Konung had, attached to his humble rod, a full-length human arm. The hook had gotten caught on a gold ring - glittering still even after the inexplicably long amount of time it was caught underwater - on the skeleton's hand. The shoulder of the arm was attached to nothing.. it was simply an arm.

Looking about, Konung saw that the old man had gone, taking his rod and bucket with him. All that remained was Konung's rod.. and the arm with the gold ring.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

Konung looked around puzzled. He was very curious, and as he thought hard, his tentacles and feelers threshed and twitched. He picked up the arm, with the ring still on it, and the fishing rod. He dove into the water, and swam hurriedly to his throne room in the undercity of Jormungandr. He placed the atop a stone bench near to his throne, and took his seat. He swam back and forth, heavy in thought. He had never seen a human in Jormungandr until today, and then he finds a human arm with some strangely impressive ring still bound to a finger.

Konung swum over to the arm, pulled the ring off , and stuck it on his index finger.

As silent as the dreaded waters lapping against the bones that lay on the shore, Konung re-appeared. He sat upon the edge of the pier, deep in thought.
How could he restore true glory to a realm that still hid secrets from him? His mind lay in thought deeper than the abyssal waters below.
Konung decided he would have to scout every depth of Jormungandr, but he knew that he didn't have forces sufficient enough to carry out the exploration. He would have to do it himself, or perhaps ..., perhaps he could call upon him, for Kordar didn't recongise fear, nor danger.
Yes, Orvar would do perfectly.

Konung heads into his temple to call Kordar to the dread city of Jormungandr.

"Lord," rasped Kordar, even under the waves. "Lord.."

The sight of Kordar still struck fear deep in Konung.

His washed black skin, covered by patterened and organic tattoos, that were ever changing in bright shades.
His eyes were pure white, struck immense contrast amongst the deathly depths of the water.

Though, as fearful as he was, Kordar was terribly loyal, and Konung cared for him, for he was truly family.

"Kordar... there is work teh be done!" said Konung.
"We must scout every corner, crevice, fissure, and depth of Jormungandr! Fer death or for glory, brother" Konung growled.

His mindset was fierce and determined, and with that, he set off to the south of the city.

"Yes, Lord.." said Kordar. "Yesss..."

Most of the city was safe - Kordar had seen to that. The Temple of Jormungandr was safe enough, but North Jormungandr wasn't the entire city.. that was a city below, South Jormungandr, that housed many bleak underwater demons, demons which Konung hadn't seen to exterminate yet. There would be more clues there, yes.. more clues to the Realm before..

They pass through the arches and bridges of Jormungandr, through broken halls and savaged courtyards.. and stop, soon enough, at the Gate. An immense black portal, made of some primordial black stone, cut by ancient hands, easily five hundred meters high.. step through and you will enter South Jormungandr. Gold coins glimmered at each grounded point of the empty doorway, and heavy words were engraved at it's top: Mungrandr.

Enter Mungrandr, Konung, and meet your doom.

"East," rasped Kordar. Suddenly, a vision was shared between the God of the Kraken and his greatest friend.. the result of their psychic and spiritual bond. He saw the rocky underwater cave that was the home of Kordar, going deep into the earth, and the black sand and water-weed above that made the East the barren desert of the ocean.. peaceful in its own way, but ultimately a little boring, except..

Except for the Ravine.

The Ravine.

Kordar's home was deep, yes, but the Ravine was a slash upon the very world.. the deepest, blackest hole in Jormungandr, the house of unknown watery dooms and murky horrors, vague things that blinked in eternal light and that preyed on whatever was stupid enough to exist within the blackness.. the only place, in fact, that Kordar loathed - feared, perhaps - to tread.

But there was more than the typical ecological fauna and flora of the Jormungandr ocean. More...

A great tree, of wood and iron, in the center of the land.. no, not a tree: a ship! A great ocean vessel, sunk for many years, filled with mystery.. on the side, Konung read that it was christened Jor's Pride, and noted that it was covered in weed and sea moss. It was rusted in many places, and had been left untouched for an extremely long time..

Pale black skin turned into a dark obsidian.. the circular tatooes turned into their likeness, into suction cups.. stone formed, hardened.. two eyes became four, then eight, then sixteen, then thirty-two, then too many to count.. doubled, tripled, quadrupled, pentripled in size, became huge, a leviathan, great enough to heave the boat.. black saliva filled the sea as he changed, his relatively human form into a Cyclopean monstrosity, arms and legs into frighteningly forceful tentacles..

There was a groan; a groan that could wake the black sea.

He moved, suddenly and swiftly, and picked the entire ship up with ease. Slowly, carefully, the Kraken moved it into North Jormungandr, where he dumped it among the ruins..

When Konung's eyes adjusted to the light, he saw a moving rainbow within it - thousands of healthy, normal fish swimming about in the brightness, untouched by any predator. The entire place felt sacred.. there was no black sand beneath the light, only white rock. It felt as if it were a temple - an alter - of some sort.

"What in the divine.." gasped Konung.

Such oceanic beauty he had never laid eyes upon before. The ever swirling mass of fish were heaven to his eyes.

He knew at once, this would be his avenue of trade, of business.

He would start the finest Fish Market in the Realm Supernatural.

First, he would have to harvest enough resources to fund his project.

He swum to his temple in Jormungandr, and used his gate of Methodes.

But, before he stepped in..

"Kordar, there is more work teh be done! Come with me, now." he communed to his ally.

"Take me to a random realm.." he uttered to the gate.

Other than that, Desafon ponders just what to do. He isn't certain if a God could drown, but if he can dehydrate no doubt a God could drown. "This bloody well sucks."
Finding himself pretty much unable to do anything here, he tries to steady his nerves before he decides to portal back to his realm with the intention of running quickly back to his village.

The pier was made thousands of years ago. Too far - Anik could sense no more..

A man appears on the pier. He is slightly tall, ancient-looking, weathered face hidden by a flowing white beard. At his side, instead of a weapon, he has two fishing lines and a bucket of bait. He sits down and begins fishing.

Soon, he looks towards Anik.

"Hello, stranger," said the man. "New here, are you? Come, sit. I'm afraid the fish aren't biting today.."

If any of these don't mean anything to you then I still offer you my humble greeting as one being to another." He says with a bow. "Sorry to hear about that, I'm sure your luck will change sometime." He does indeed take a seat on the pier even if there was non. Obviously with the gear he had on, he had expected to need to go under the water, but still it was just comfortable enough to wear on the pier. "Do you mind if I have a go." He remembered fishing, and a fisherman he once knew, he had used the man and the fish to practice his control over minds. Of course the man was repayed with a magic food and all the fish he made literally jump out of the water and into a fishing boat, this was just a passing though, one of the many bubbles of the past which came to surface.

Supernatural wise would be destructive, but nothing like... the past."

He wondered for a moment. "Payment is not an issue because I cannot give what would be paid for." He thought for a moment. "After this mission... I shall be given a research grant. The conclave are always looking for weapons I'm so I'm sure they'd fund me in a heartbeat. Then I will have the means, and perhaps the memories, to make deals." He said.

Thinking quickly he added "I do trust you, its the world I don't trust."

Anik was intensely curious about all of this. He would need to get his memory back before he completed the explosives, which he had every intention of completing as ordered. Yes most defiantly, for he felt that mistakes like this one had made... the information slip, meant something greater was afoot than a simple crafting job. For some reason Anik felt played even as he left.

He was about to go down when all the sudden. "Aw damn it. I forgot about light..." All packed up ready to go and now he wasn't ready. Always forgetting something. "Callisti, I don't have anything to allow me to see in the dark depths, I shall have to remedy that. Would you mind waiting workshop in my realm for a while? Anik knew that there had once been a civilization - land - in the place known now as the Seas of Jormungandr. The civilization had been mighty, but vain - their ultimate goal, as a people, was to master their control over the weather, using scientific and sorcerous means. Their kingdom was a desert, the few fertile areas filled with the farms needed to support such a nation, and their science-sorcerers desired rain, and with that, bounty.

The rain came, but never stopped.

This ship was one of the last bastions of the civilization, built using their own uncanny methods, until it was sunk from a horror beneath the waves. The ship had, in its service, an elemental of fire - trapped with magic and bound in steel, it fueled the ship.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

"I see," said Konung. "I would be willing to offer them the strategic services of my Kraken, for a sizable fee, for the beast is as close to my essence as anything else.. and, with my focus in place, I have superb control over the thing - but I do not keep it in chains. No.. there are some things it will not do, such as enter the darkest Ravine in Jormungandr.."

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

*Do you mind if I examine you for traces of madness or previous plots against the Conclave, nothing fancy I just need to touch you.*

Should he agree, Anik will touch Konung's skin with his own hand and use Legend on him to view his past... as far back as he can, searching for what he said of course, but also any information on the Kraken as well.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

"Go ahead," grunted Konung, still - obviously - a little unsure.

Anik saw that the God was not Mad; he saw several powerful rites performed on the white stone; he saw a fight, of fire and steam, within the very ship he was scribing upon; he saw the Kraken, a great beast fully under the control of Konung; and he saw the Ravine, deep and dark..

He could not see any further. He knew the theoelectromagnetic field was in the way.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

This was a success, more than just the fact that he not only COULD see some of his history (something he wasn't sure would work) but this also confirmed many things. He nodded then continued to write.
*Thank you, now I can support telling the conclave that we can trust your sincerity.*
*You must understand that with so many enemies out there, we must be careful of offers like yours.*
*Now then do you have any known history of the great beast before we examine it, assuming that's possible.*

He looks to the Callisti to make sure he wasn't lying before heading to the Kraken with the sea-god.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

The Callisti affirmed that he was not lying.

The swim was short and efficient. They passed the alter made of light and stone, and soon came to a long, flat expanse of sand, a series of huge black rocks forming a maze within the center of the place.

"The Kraken lives there," said Konung. "Would you care for a look?"

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

Anik flipped the dark-sight lens on to get a better look at the rocks. "Like before I can assess things with a touch. Also If the Kraken is able to speak intelligently I would like to speak with it." To get a look at the Kraken, he focused a bit on the surrounding water and tried to use legend. Just to try and see how large the Kraken was (just looking for some size reference), he doubted the flowing liquid would give much information, but it would prove many time easier than air since it wasn't constantly being blown and dispersed.

"The Kraken cannot speak, I am afraid," said Konung.

Anik felt his power rush through the water, and an aswer soon came to him.. the Kraken was just a little larger than the Hall of the Sun; frighteningly huge.

"Alright then I would still like to examine the Kraken, would you call him, or should we go in?" This made Anik somewhat cautious. He knew he was completely at the mercy of this god here.

"I do not wish to call him at this time," said Konung. "He is caught in a deep slumber. If this makes you nervous, you are free to leave, but if not, I invite you to come observe the creature."

Anik nodded. "I shall examine the beast in his slumber then." He goes with or without the god to examine the beast.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

Camouflaged by the large rocky outcrop was a large cave system. It was pitch black within, and freezing cold, but Anik's foresight allowed him comfort and sight within the cavern. Konung followed him.

The thing was huge. Too many eyes dotted its face, and its mouth was a gaping abyss filled with a billion slashing teeth. A hundred tentacles supported its immense body. Most of the Kraken's mass, including the tentacles, are covered in a strange black bone, making them - Anik surmised - effectively harder than most metals.. obsidian sledgehammers to destroy even the most determined foe. He knew that the Kraken would be very difficult to kill under normal means.

Anik went up to one of the lesser tentacles and gently places his hand on the creature and used his ability to view its life, intentions, and pretty much everything he can about the creature. He would spend several minutes abosrbing knowledge if allowed.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

The creature was vague, its history and nature obscured as if by some sort of static.. the harder Anik pressed, the more the obscuration seemed to grow, the sound of rushing water enveloping him as he tried to make sense of the pattern about the thing. Knowledge was gleaned, but -

With a shock, Anik realized that the Kraken was being protected - by Konung's own theoelectromagnetic field. Anik has studied the sciences, read the texts.. he knew that this could only mean a single thing: that the Kraken was bound, utterly and irrevocably, to the divinity-pattern of Konung.

Still, information was found, even through the white noise.. he knew that it had known existence as something small within the Ravine, but with the summons of Konung it grew to immense size and began its black metamorphosis... he saw that it was not bloodthirsty naturally, and was rather peaceful most of the time, but that it had experienced stages of extreme bloodlust - the triggers were either the will of Konung or the fear of the Ravine.. he saw that it was a creature that brought the sea with it, literally emptying its massive pores of billions of liters of salt water if on dry land.. he saw that its strength and endurance were immense, and that it saw things with its strange eyes..

"Enough," said Konung, suddenly, breaking Anik's several minutes of concentration. "I trust you've learnt what you've come to learn."

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

He nodded. *Yes. Quite amazing creature, and I indeed do feel the link between you two.* Anik turns back to Konung.

He paused for a moment before writing to the Callisti. *You may go back now, thank you for recording, I shall send you a copy of the report*

Once the Callisti leaves he turns to Kongung.
*You can be sure I will send a glowing report to the Conclave*
*Trust. That is a big factor here, they want to know if they can trust you.*
*I have tested both your patience and your willingness to gain this trust*
*You have passed with flying colors, and gained my trust as well.*
*The Kraken is a fascinating creature. I do hope I get to study it some other time.*
*I thank you for this opportunity.*

After final farewells he leaves back to his realm... he had a lot to do.

"You are welcome back at any time, master craftsmen," said Konung, a friendly smile on his face.

There was a bet - a bounty - a forest filled with caves - a strange howling -

And Anik was in Bounty.
