Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

It was heavy.. heavy.. and then, with a mighty splash, it was thrown out of the water onto the pier. It was a crustacean, bone-white, covered in dark blue watermoss..

No.

It was not a crustacean.

It was bone.

Konung had, attached to his humble rod, a full-length human arm. The hook had gotten caught on a gold ring - glittering still even after the inexplicably long amount of time it was caught underwater - on the skeleton's hand. The shoulder of the arm was attached to nothing.. it was simply an arm.

Looking about, Konung saw that the old man had gone, taking his rod and bucket with him. All that remained was Konung's rod.. and the arm with the gold ring.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

Konung looked around puzzled. He was very curious, and as he thought hard, his tentacles and feelers threshed and twitched. He picked up the arm, with the ring still on it, and the fishing rod. He dove into the water, and swam hurriedly to his throne room in the undercity of Jormungandr. He placed the atop a stone bench near to his throne, and took his seat. He swam back and forth, heavy in thought. He had never seen a human in Jormungandr until today, and then he finds a human arm with some strangely impressive ring still bound to a finger.

Konung swum over to the arm, pulled the ring off , and stuck it on his index finger.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

The ring was engraved, in simple letters: JORMUNGANDR.

An artefact of some lost glory..? Perhaps Jormungandr, and it's squid-people, were all that remained of a once-great race?

Konung was deep in thought over this ring, and the fact that it was on a human arm. Could Jormungandr have once been populated by humans, too ?

Konung needed more information on the matter. It was time to head to inquire with the Conclave.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

As silent as the dreaded waters lapping against the bones that lay on the shore, Konung re-appeared. He sat upon the edge of the pier, deep in thought.
How could he restore true glory to a realm that still hid secrets from him? His mind lay in thought deeper than the abyssal waters below.
Konung decided he would have to scout every depth of Jormungandr, but he knew that he didn't have forces sufficient enough to carry out the exploration. He would have to do it himself, or perhaps ..., perhaps he could call upon him, for Kordar didn't recongise fear, nor danger.
Yes, Orvar would do perfectly.

Konung heads into his temple to call Kordar to the dread city of Jormungandr.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

Kordar, perhaps the greatest swimmer in Jormunganr - even greater than Konung himself - soon appears, swimming through the black depths. Konung saw the circular tattoos about Orvar's naked body, and the strange look in his eyes. The Eye of the Kraken hummed, peculiarly, under the water..

"Lord," rasped Kordar, even under the waves. "Lord.."

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

The sight of Kordar still struck fear deep in Konung.

His washed black skin, covered by patterened and organic tattoos, that were ever changing in bright shades.
His eyes were pure white, struck immense contrast amongst the deathly depths of the water.

Though, as fearful as he was, Kordar was terribly loyal, and Konung cared for him, for he was truly family.

"Kordar... there is work teh be done!" said Konung.
"We must scout every corner, crevice, fissure, and depth of Jormungandr! Fer death or for glory, brother" Konung growled.

His mindset was fierce and determined, and with that, he set off to the south of the city.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

"Yes, Lord.." said Kordar. "Yesss..."

Most of the city was safe - Kordar had seen to that. The Temple of Jormungandr was safe enough, but North Jormungandr wasn't the entire city.. that was a city below, South Jormungandr, that housed many bleak underwater demons, demons which Konung hadn't seen to exterminate yet. There would be more clues there, yes.. more clues to the Realm before..

They pass through the arches and bridges of Jormungandr, through broken halls and savaged courtyards.. and stop, soon enough, at the Gate. An immense black portal, made of some primordial black stone, cut by ancient hands, easily five hundred meters high.. step through and you will enter South Jormungandr. Gold coins glimmered at each grounded point of the empty doorway, and heavy words were engraved at it's top: Mungrandr.

Enter Mungrandr, Konung, and meet your doom.

Konung looked here and far, and all between. He saw the depths of Jormungandr, and the danger that lay within. He eyed off the gigantic obsidian portal, it radiated danger, and Konung knew now was not the time.

"Kordar, let's head east!" yelled Konung, signalling east with his arm.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

"East," rasped Kordar. Suddenly, a vision was shared between the God of the Kraken and his greatest friend.. the result of their psychic and spiritual bond. He saw the rocky underwater cave that was the home of Kordar, going deep into the earth, and the black sand and water-weed above that made the East the barren desert of the ocean.. peaceful in its own way, but ultimately a little boring, except..

Except for the Ravine.

The Ravine.

Kordar's home was deep, yes, but the Ravine was a slash upon the very world.. the deepest, blackest hole in Jormungandr, the house of unknown watery dooms and murky horrors, vague things that blinked in eternal light and that preyed on whatever was stupid enough to exist within the blackness.. the only place, in fact, that Kordar loathed - feared, perhaps - to tread.

Konung peered through Kordar's eyes, staring into the deep Ravine.

"Kordar ... do yeh dare to tempt the divine my brother?" Konung thought, broadcasting the communication to Kordar.

Konung knew that the ravine would present both danger, and insight, and had to accept the good with the bad.

"Cold," said Kordar, his voice a whisper. "Cold.."

The Ravine was below them, unforgiving, deep, dangerous, cold..

Was that a glimmer of fear in Kordar's eyes?

The Ravine offered unparalleled information - treasure worth more than anything Konung could imagine, the treasure of knowledge - but with it, murky guardians who would not hesitate to destroy him.

"We will let it go, we will take flight, and come to deaths doorstep when we are ready, brother" murmed Konung.

If the ravine would instill fear in Kordar, then it was not worth visiting yet. Kordar knew these waters better than any other, and Konung would be wise to heed caution where Kordar did.

"Kordar, let's travel west" commanded Konung.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

They came to the western sea, to the gloomy caverns and strange rocks, the fish withh golden eyes, the water snails and poisonous salt-worms, to the great expanses of black sand, the forests of water-weed, the colonies of giant crab and lobster, to things that slivered and slithered..

But there was more than the typical ecological fauna and flora of the Jormungandr ocean. More...

A great tree, of wood and iron, in the center of the land.. no, not a tree: a ship! A great ocean vessel, sunk for many years, filled with mystery.. on the side, Konung read that it was christened Jor's Pride, and noted that it was covered in weed and sea moss. It was rusted in many places, and had been left untouched for an extremely long time..

The ship filled Konungs mind with mystery and thoughts long laying dormant in the waters of Jormungandr.

He beckoned to Kordar to follow him, and searched the hull and deck for an opening to the ship.

There main door to the inner entrance of the ship had rusted away. Inside, there was silence and darkness.. Kordar followed moodily behind him. The main hall was a wreck, with rust and filth everywhere.. doors led upwards, and downwards, but the hall itself was empty save for a few lonely, broken chairs.

Konung looked over the delapidated hall, and saw the wonderous rot and carnage of the crushing depths.

"Kordar, you scour the main and lower halls, I'll look over the rest. Let nothing escape your sight, and leave no treasure undiscovered my son" said Konung, caution in his tone. Konung new that danger could lurk in any crevice in the Realm Supernatural.

He set about looking over all parts of the ship other than the main and lower halls, looking for anything at all interesting.

Re: (Konung) The Lesser Temple of Jormungandr

This thing, Konung soon learnt, was mechanical..

He soon came upon the furnaces of the thing. It was powered by coal and steam, it seemed, and the gaping mouths of the ovens haunted him.. as if they wished for him to lock himself within their iron grasp, allow himself to be smothered within it's deathly flames..

Suddenly, the furnaces exploded with blue-white flames, somehow existing in the watery depths, filling the hall with light, eradicating the darkness and the gloom.. there was no heat, only light..

Konung was deeply disturbed.

Konung jumped from the flames. He was blight with awareness and danger. What demonic device could force flame under shadowed depths?

"Kordar, take care brother! There is strange devilry at work!"
Konung roared. He was furious with suspicion, his tentacles and feelers writhing and flaying about.

He inspects the room and ground for remains of the device, or clues to its place of creation, before moving on to the next hall.

His tentacles, and feelers writhed and lashed furiously. Konung wanted answers.
