Re: OOC IV: The Goblet of Ire

Well, I've got a spear you could borrow, Max.

And no update for me in Ruse's realm? Boo. Out of curiosity, we're not actually going to individually go through every injured person in the realm, right? Not that I'm not enjoying the side-quest and all, but I'm hoping I won't have to neglect my realm for a year to get it done.

Reading your setting updates now. Looking interesting so far. One of the little things I really like about them is the different stats you give for each type of creature. They're so different, you can't even apply a universal set of measures to determine their power relative to each other. It's like comparing an apple to a flashlight. Or that's the impression I've gotten so far.

And done. That'll take a while to process, but nice interconnections. I really like the parable of being shot eighteen times in the stomach for trying something too time-consuming in a duel. Though, really, if her ritual took 13 hours to complete, kind of hard to blame him for wanting to try for 18 hours.

Re: OOC IV: The Goblet of Ire

Hirsu: Sorry for the delay on the updates. I didn't mean to leave you hanging.. I just kind've crashed last night. (Bad GM!) I'm on that now.

As for the side-quest, well.. it's really out of my hands. I didn't come up with it, it hasn't officially been approved by the Conclave (outside of Ruse, which is maybe approval enough), and I guess you're done when he says you're done. The tide of wounded has thinned a bit, though, so you can concentrate on this strange ailment.

Glad you like the Councilman stuff, too. Hopefully that sheds some more light on the Conclave workings.. I strove to make each Councilman vaguely similar but individually unique, if you know what I mean. Next on my list is a rundown on the ten species and their worlds.

"Comparing apples to flashlights".. that's exactly what I was going through. There are common threads - Combat Skill, sometimes Sorcerous Power, Social Status - but for the most part they run on entirely different systems. Systemarchs, for example, have no innate magical abilities, but instead an attribute for their psychic development, while the Sorcerers of Alkan, whose whole culture revolves around mystical practices, have three attributes devoted to sorcery.

I think the main point of that gun parable is: even Councilmen can be idiots. :D

Re: OOC IV: The Goblet of Ire

Actually, the Conclave knows fully that Ruse is administering a test to Hirsu. While he is taking advantage of his position strategically, Ruse isn't actually lying to anyone. But then again, what's new?

As for the test itself, last time Ruse did a telepathic "check up" he saw Hirsu dealing with the werewolf bite or whatever it is. He certainly isn't going to stop the test when Hirsu is in the middle of treating his most severe victim. But the tide of injured has thinned, and as far as Ruse is concerned treating the werewolf victim (or whatever he is lol) is about the last phase of the test. If Hirsu does this successfully, Ruse will pass him with flying colors.

Amusingly enough, the werewolf-thing is something Ruse passed as being rather irrelevant :P Ah, the price of hubris..

Well, I take full credit for any success gained by reading a book under my name.

Any failure is purely on the reader's part.

I just need to learn that damn 'madness-language' I invented, so I can know what the hell my library is all about. Though I have a pretty good idea... Maybe if I touch that orb in the upstairs part of the tower! There is no possible downside.

Heh, ok. I was just wondering how we were going to go about it. Ruse's realms seemed to have suffered a disaster, and with the first cases I was getting, like the infected leg injury, the dysentery, and all of that which I was treating case by case, it would take a massive amount of posts to get through everyone with such injuries. Thanks for speeding things along.

P.S. Definitely amused by the hubris comment just now.

Msonus, I have a feeling the book will lead to what might be termed success by some, but a great danger by many others. But I'll say that any downsides are my own responsibility, since I choose to keep reading.

Well to be quite honest, Ruse didn't know about the werewolf bite originally. When you discovered it, that was news to him too. He is growing a bit more concerned about it since he just noticed you're having some trouble curing it, but he isn't ready or able to step in yet. Not with his little insidious plot going on that has nothing to do with the players for the most part, as well as dealing with Max and Pitcarn.

And yea the Hubris element is actually something that is purposeful on my part. The way Nat and I designed the Mistella, they are very much modeled after the haughty high elf image, although are not high elves and have an association with mist rather than trees and stuff, but a lot of the similarities are there. But there's enough differences to make them unique unto themselves.

Re: OOC IV: The Goblet of Ire

The way Hirsu's looking at it, the one who's bitten isn't the one you need to worry about. In some legends, killing the one who infected them is enough to cure the victim. Hirsu's concerned it won't be that easy, and wants to hopefully have some more options for Ruse before he goes talk to him about it.

Oh, by the way, I have the means to rejuvenate your realm. It'll need your direct involvement, though.

Re: OOC IV: The Goblet of Ire

Oh Ruse already is in the process of rejuvenating it. Between dumping some realm degrees into it and also a plot he's working on, the realm will probably actually have more power then it did before. But things are still in the works.

And Ruse would be very interested in your assessment of the wolf-bite victim, especially if you can track down the primary werewolf so to speak. If you can kill it or neutralize it then awesome and you'll get test points, but if you can't or it's too risky Ruse wouldn't want you to do it. And remember, currently you are restricted to the central province. So I'd focus on gathering information at this point, and making sure you can save the victim. Ruse will look into hunting the werewolf - possibly with you coming along (to give you some experience points too lol). At the very least, learning how to cure this type of ailment would be useful for a god of life to know in the future I'd think.

Re: OOC IV: The Goblet of Ire

Anik has definitely earned some respect from me, what with not sacrificing his people and making such a neato shiny shield.

Chaly is 'bout to get his arse kicked!

I'm going after Sura next if this works out, and with 100,000 conclave stones at stake I trust the items will be even more epic!

EDIT: Chaly has reached Master. This is going to be an awesome battle.
