Hmm, now that I think about it, I might just change my idea. I don't think it'd work well in the game with the distribution pts the way it is.

I was pretty much going to do Stygia from the Conan-verse except substituting Yuan-ti from D&D as the citizens through a varied degree of rank based upon the 'purity' of mixture between human and serpent as to how close you are to 'perfection'.

The divine game is an old, and when I say old I mean OLD game I used to run way way back when. I think the first theogenesis was still running then and I think I was still penta. (Feels like years ago... hell I think it was years ago) I didn't plan to revive it honestly, but someone a veteran actually found me and asked me to bring it back online. I was surprised that the game was liked so much that someone would remember it after all this time. So inspired and moved by the player's devotion I decided to revamp the system a little and re-run it.

Oh sure, my constant pestering didn't work, but one mention from someone else... :P

Well crailek as much as I love you, you haven't pestered for a while and I haven't been in the position to really handle that game. It was a very complex and creative system truth be told looking over the archives I'm impressed I came up with as much as I did when I was younger. The fact of the matter is a game of that magnitude is exhausting and trust me eo doesn't even compare with the divine game.

I have to leave my college computer lab right now, since its my time to head home. I did send in a partial app so that I could at least get that information to you since I don't really want to save it onto my thumbdrive (I try to keep it entirely school-work-related) and the computers wipe out info right after they are used, so I can't really save it. I hope its good so far.

It's very good I would like a little more detail on the people's natural abilities since that is somewhat important and this reminds me that I need to write up and finish revamping the NPC kingdoms (there is one or two for each nation just in case a saiwala decides they don't want to be from their kingdom. Of course this doesn't mean their kingdom doesn't exist, but hey the more kingdoms the better it adds color to the game and I like that.

Actually, my notes are about three pages long and discuss the meaning of life, the nature of creativity, and need for self-understanding.

Yeah? Tell me, if you've died several times over the course of the game, what are the chances you're going to survive what is arguably one of the toughest things to do in this game? Ascension is talked about a lot, but few actually manage it.

Even though I'm the God of Duels doesn't mean I've dueled a God yet. Well, I've had an easy kill, but other than that I haven't done a good duel yet. Sura is the first combatant I will have soon.

As for the 'Ascend' thing for Max... I'm not gonna comment. I personally don't know and I rather well just want to not worry about it for now. Lives might not matter to you, but I'm pretty certain all it takes is one thing from the GM and its something you'll want to worry about. :)

I have died ONCE so far, and that was explicitly my choice and for roleplaying reasons.

Ascension aint easy as it was in previous games. I'll put down any money that Nat will make you work your ass off for it. I qualify for it already, so does Ruse and Chal. I know that im not going to even attempt it for a long time to come.

Actually, I was never gone, but thanks for the concerns anyway. It was just that Nat was rather slow in updating my thread after I posted my new Chthonic character sheet. Now that he has done so, broadcasts will create as normal. ;)

Hi Chalybis.

Since you are switching templates, please allow me to assist you. I wrote them up, after all. Hopefully, this will make your transiton go easier, as it sounds like you're struggling a bit with the cthonic switch. Please follow these simple steps to become a rarified mad god:

1.) Remove your existing god template. If you have a degree gained from your template, you may keep it UNLESS it is pushed above the standard cap of 5, in which case you lose it from 6 back down to 5 (unless it happens to be sorcery, in which it can remain at 6). In your case, you lose the benefits and penalties of the returned god template, but you do keep your divinity degree at 5th as it is currently. You may not raise divinity above 5 now.

2.) Gain +1 degree in sorcery. As you have blasted your sorcery degree, this does absolutely nothing for you. :(

3.) Choose +1 psionic (you may take a new blunt or upgrade a blunt to a sharp, but not go higher than sharp). Note that this psionic ability is usable ONLY in your cthonic form.

4.) Select a Cthonic form as your new "true form." This form must be aligned with madness and be very obviously mad-based. Think tentacles and many eues and gibbering mouths and stuff like that. Your choice of form is cosmetic as they all do the same thing...

5.) Choose your cthonic form powers. These powers are ONLY usable when in your cthonic form. You gain an automatic minor power that allows you to fly (if you already have a flight power then this does nothing as it won't stack, but you can choose which one to use at any given time). You also may gain 2 new minor powers and 1 new major power, but they must be created with Madness themes. Nat has the right to veto these powers and assign you something more fitting if they aren"t "mad enough."

6.) REMOVE 2 of your realm degrees, to a minimum of 1 (unless you blasted realm in which case disregard). You may not ever raise realm above 3rd degree (this is a new degree cap). In your case, you will drop from 4th degree to 2nd degree.

Final stats for Mad god Chalybis:

Divinity: 5th degree
Combat: 4th degree
sorcery: 0th degree
Realm: 2nd degree
God powers: +1 minor flight power, +2 other minor powers, +1 major power - all useable ONLY in cthonic form.
Psionics: +1 psionic, ONLY usable in cthonic form.

Degree Caps: divinity-5, combat-5, sorcery-0, realm-3

Actually no - it was your presence in litheris which killed your people.  If your people hadn't been there Osiris would have killed them anyway (or just killed you).  Raelis was the direct cause of your people dying.

Osiris is the ultimate cause of their deaths though. Ruse nor Raelis are directly responsible.

Raelis's actions directly initiated the problem.  In fact apart from Max bringing his people to Litheris everything else follows from his actions.  The only other action which could be considered directly responsible wasn't done by a PC.  And yes that looks weird but Osiris felt he had no choice but to do what he did and in his place I'd have done the same thing.

Ruse is indirectly the reason Max didn't get the chance to get his people back.  Apart from that he wasn't involved.

I got in a fight after school today.

Guys, as a buddhist and a vegan, I've been trained all my life to be non-violent in any situation, to everyone. I fought a lot when I was little, and I always won- even in 2nd grade I could beat up sixth graders. I'm deceptively strong, and I fight cold without anger, and nowadays I've been training with my father at his school (Jeet Kune Do) and lifting weights so I'm even scarier..

  I got in a fight with a former friend who been a huge dick recently; I was happy with this awesomely big, smooth rock I had found and sitting on top of one of the school's stone tables. I don't remember it clearly but he tackled me and spoke angrily and was putting his arm around my throat.. so my training kicked in and.. I hurt him.

I was shaking afterwards, and I've been throwing up for the last two hours (most of it dry hacking after the first time). I'm not supposed to fight unless it's to protect someone else. My youngest big sister saw it and I talked with her and my little sister, and they hugged me which helped some, but not enough.

I hurt someone..

I know that the highschools where I live are strict about that now.  There used to be so many fights all of hte time, that they had to take extreme measures, so if they caught anyone fighting, it was a juvy sentence and either a transfer to the reject school (alternative school) or being expelled from the school.

As a Pagan who worships a (and yes, only one) Celtic deity, as well as a few Norse Gods, I tend to find myself a little conflicted. So, against my better judgement, the only thing 'green' that I am 'wearing' is a pin that says 'Kiss Me, I'm Irish' and it only has green lips. Well, I guess I am kinda single since my wife said that she personally believes that we're already divorced and seperated and all that other gabber... and I am 1/4 Irish.

As for the Celtic God (or should I say Goddess) it would be Danu, my Mother of the Earth.

I actually love mythology quite a bit - am a little rusty compared to when I was in middle school and soaked those stories up like a sponge, but still amd ecent none the less.

But you guys are throwing around a lot of mythological figures and stuff. There's a game you guys might love like I do. It's called Scion: Hero. The premise is you get to create a mortal child of a divine figure, in our modern times! My mythological interest attracted me to it. Your guys' paganism might draw you to it too.

Yeah, I'm quite an information sponge myself. Part of it even helped me when I was playing a game I got recently.

There was a guy named Beldr. I immediately knew it was supposed to be "Balder" and shouted something along the lines of "BRING ON THE MISTLETOE!"

And I had to beat him to death with it.

I have several bones to pick with Scion. None have anything to do with my particular understanding of spirituality or paganism or magic or whatever:

1. The game is clunky. The rules are often bizarre, obviously not as polished as the nWoD stuff, and often poorly thought out.
2. The game is CHEESY. I mean really cheesy. It's basically 1980's superheroes where everyone plays the equivalent of Thor.

Though the World War sourcebook was fantastic. And the game itself could be great with a lot of work. It's worth a look, but I'd never play it.

I played an Oracle of Odin that was basically the 'Constantine' character from the Hellblazer comic books when I tried Scion: Hero. Unfortunately, as MD said, the game was a little upsetting. I find the powers limited in selection, however, so when my character had a good amount of them and finding himself unable to much else, it was annoying. I wasn't a combat char, more like a D&D Bard.

If I wasn't swamped as is with Life, Infinity, and my WoD game I would love to do some Ars Magica. I never really got into the whole superhero genre, I always found it cheesy.

I think you have a skewed view of scion. Please allow me to share a few points of view with you to add to your perception. You may, after this, resume your beliefs but please humor me and read this post with an open mind and temporarily suspend your beliefs until you are done. Thanks ^_^

Some key things to keep in mind about Scion:

1.) Scion and nWod are NOT the same game, nor are they the same setting. White Wolf publishes them but that is the end of the similarities.

2.) Scion's rule set is based off of a game called Exalted, not world of darkness. It is a much higher power level than world of darkness (a heroic scion would crush a potence 5 vampire with a flick of his wrist with epic strength 2 or 3).

3.) While no game has a perfect rule set, compared to exalted Scion's rules are a lot more streamlined and sensible. epic attributes are easy to figure out and the dice rolls aren't terribly complex. But the key to note is that scion is a cleaner Exalted, not a nWoD comparison.

4.) Scion had VERY different themes than world of darkness. The former is about over-the-top half-gods who are sometimes literally larger than life. They are building legends for themselves and growing their divine spark, and even as heros they are paragons of normal mortals. They are the genetic descendant of a god from rl mythology...like a daughter of zeus or a son of Anansi for instance. Or Raiden. Or the Morrigan. There are a lot of possibilities.

5.) I also like cheesiness, if you haven't noticed by my roleplay stlye! I also am from the dairy state, so cheese is not a bad thing. Not at all. Hmph! :)

6.) Scion's "flavour" is the the mystery or survival horror of nWoD. Like Exalted your characters can grow and can actually surmount their opponents. They can, over time and if they survive against titanspawn, become true gods themselves. Like you could become Nat, the god of Gaming, and sire scions of your own.

7.) I absolutely am disgusted by the WW2 book and those gods in there are NOT gods in my book. It's a cute idea but I don't take John Henry as a god to be serious, lol. Although the 10th boon of the industry purview gives a good idea of "canon" stats for a nuclear blast.

8.) While it is possible to break the system if you're a munchkin, very few systems are break proof. Even nWoD can be broken.

Sorry, Ruse, I've heard all these arguments before. They're good ones - though, for my money, if you want a high-powered game I'd suggest either Abberant or Exalted, both of which I've played - and yet they fail to convince me. :D

Theogenesis doesn't follow those rules.. otherwise the other Type 1 Species would a damn sight more impressed with us.

What, that we can get pregnant and have kids? I wouldn't be so sure about that...

The funny thing about Theogenesis is that the only real claim to divinity the Gods hold relies on (1) their culture of godliness, i.e., referring to one and another as gods and being stuck in that mindset and (2) their connection with their 'people' and 'realm', which as several other races would be happy to point out, is more like an inbuilt psychic thing than an apotheosis thing.

For all intents and purposes, they are gods - or, at least, to most mortals they are. But on the same basis so are the Vakud and the Systemarchs and the Callisti and the Sorcerers. So it raises a question - who, then, are the true divines? You'll find that Gods have no problem joining cults or worshiping an ideal or being, which except in cases of Egyptian deities and the Ma'at is actually quite rare in most 'real-world' mythologies..

Are Primordials 'gods'? Or is tyhe World-Tree itself.. or the mysterious Fourth Force? For that matter, are the Outer Madness actually what they claim to be, i.e., outside time and space? You won't see very many Earthborn bowing down and worshiping Ruse or Max, but by the same token they hold a lot of reverence, still, for Christ and Buddha - who lets face it has nothing on Odin! And yet many, many, many of the ancient gods - Odin, Thor, Zeus, etc - have a solid, worship-base on Earth - or did, at least. It seemed to be an almost sympathetic link.. as if their actions on the Realm Supernatural flowed down into the Realm Mundane. That, perhaps, is the purpose of Earth..

(Let's not bring up the fact that in Theogenesis canon the Buddha actually exists)

Theogenesis is more complicated than that. One of the best underlying themes - in my opinion at least - involves the nature of fate, and the divine, and of where and what it is exactly. And just like good and evil.. it's a lot more complicated than that.

The question of 'whether or not a "Divine" in Theogenesis can inform such claims' is open to a lot of debate :P

1 - When it comes to the whole enforce your claims thing, I agree with nat. It really is, most of the 'gods' of theogenesis try to think that they could, but in reality I think we use trickery, illusion, and fear, not to mention some twisted psyche warping to keep control over our people.
2 - Wait does that mean crailek and foun can do it and have a baby and I don't have to go on some insane quest for a magical item that will allow it???
3 - I just realized something awesome. I honestly thought that maybe ruse and foun would hate each other, but I thought about it. They both want to save the tree right? They both could benefit from each other a lot honestly and so if anything they can become allies whoot! Although I'm sure there will be a little tension here and there, but oh well all friendships have that.... (heehee Don't worry I don't think for a moment they'll be friends, all business after all)

About the nature of gods:

Okay (true) theogenesis gods are, in the sense of the word, actual divines. Other sphereborn may be powerful, but they are never gods. Even psionics cannot imitate perfectly the link a god has with realm and people.

Another way that gods are "true" gods is that they. of all beings including sphereborn, can utterly break the laws of both physics and metaphysics. God powers can do things even psionics wished it could achieve, and with great potency and little effort compared to spells. They have a divine aura - the theogenic field - and no being besides divines and beings with specail circumstances (like a lich) come back from death.

Gods also are the most powerful sphereborn too. At our level we may be able to be challenged still by some of the stronger ones like councilors, etc, but gods are the only beings that can truly ascend and and ascended being is pretty much the most bad-ass being in the game save for the primordials themselves (and trees, etc).

Just because a god in theogenesis only has a small g and not a large G like Jehova/Yahweh or something, people seem to think that means they don't have to be gods. But a small g god is still very legitimately a god, and there are such things as gods without being all-powerful Yahwehs (who by the way is very inappropriate for the theogenesis setting which is why christ doesn't exist, while the bhudda and odin and other small g gods do). I also think true gods in theogenesis have the closest innate connection with the tree - both in essence and in how they're spawned. Zealous gods are really, close to the tree, and the path of mercy folk may even outdo a primordial for the tree's affections. No other being can make this claim, but that alone doesn't make gods true gods, but it helps.

I'm offering all of this because I dislike post-mordernist "anything is possible" thinking, as I am an objectivist thinker. :)

Yea as great and awesome as having real christian figures is, it doesn't belong in a rp context except in very rare cases like some world of darkness, etc. Really, monotheism with a true all powerful singular god being doesn't have a place in games like theogenesis, scion, et cetera.

Unless you place that All Powerful God as the Creation Force in Theogenesis, which does jack shit for us but made the Trees, which is precisely what the Christian god seems to be about in reality.

You qualify, and you're easier to sneak up on, and therefore harvest from.

I feel horrible since so many people are trying for that game and I keep getting on and planning to work with the apps and everything and then my brain shuts down. I WANT TO STOP BEING SICK ALREADY!!!!

Guys, I'm sorry for the THREE-WEEK DELAY (a complication of a process which, I was originally told, would take three to five DAYS) - but I have it on good(ish) authority that my internet will return by Tuesday (literally just late enough to fail my Therapy class).  Which means updates will probably resume by Wednesday.

Also, the man who convinces Xeran to join Dust gets a Degree :P

Lastly, I'm going to be a bit fragile - and have been for this entire month. Last Tuesday a reasonably good friend of mine got hit by a car on her way to university (my university) and I've spent the past couple of weeks mourning her (though everyone else probably thought I was just being grumpy). In addition to this, on this Tuesday my brother, Alex, also got hit by a car, splitting his tongue wide open and breaking his arm in eight places, killing off most of the nerves.

EDIT: Sent off an RTJ to Ghostlords, as Anastasia. Assuming he accepts  (there are a glaring issues with my character sheet I noticed, such as my taking of a Major illness) you should all get the joy of playing with me IN YET ANOTHER GAME.
