Re: Aboard The Horn, Talisandre 620

Ascending the Green Tower, Aalistair will board the Horn once more.

He'll stand near the gangway, looking a bit uneasy.

"Captain Ceramose," he calls. "I seek admission to your vessel. Is there anything I can do to help with preparations for departure?" He'll hold up his free hand. "I have very little experience with any kind of sailing vessel, so please, tasks that are simple and require little explanation."

In reply to Aalistair (msg #42):

The Cymrilian sidles up next the Aalistair and drapes an arm across his shoulder.  "Fear not, pilgrim.  Stick with me and I'll make a worthy sky-man out of you before you know it."  He looks up at the crew lethargically making preparations and his smile widens.  "Ho, captain!  Two worthy men seek to you board your vessel.  What say you?"

"Greetings, Captain, may I come aboard?"

Upon recieving permission to board, Mirna will board and quietly say to the captain, "For my own peace of mind, may I inspect your battle preparations? I'd like to see where my bow will be of most use." ((OOC: She does not want to be overheard as she is trying to be respectful of his authority))

As day breaks, Kar rises to greet the suns. He takes a leisurely flight around the town before noticing the increased traffic to the Tower, and decides to approach as well.

Backwinging above the ship, "Permission to land Captain?"

Callianos makes his way slowly towards the Horn, shielding his eyes from the suns' abuse. Moving along the gangplank, he speaks to the fellow granting the others permission to board.

"Greetings and well met, Sir. I'd like your gracious permission to board this fine vessel, if I may. I have been rather generously been permitted a place among your fine crew. Where may I stow my effects?"

"Indeed, welcome aboard."  He nods to one of the crewmen, "Lacus can show you where you will bunk and store your gear."  He turns back towards Zosha and Nas, "I've some additional preparations to make, we set sail shortly.  You can greet the remainder of your crew and get them settled as they board."  He smiles and moves to watch over the preparations.

Zosha stands, reviewing some papers in her hands, which riffle in a light wind.

J'landria is quiet as she moves up, standing just off the gangplank, staring up at the ship.  Her green eyes are wide and her ears are perky as she surveys the ship.  She watches her new companions move about on the deck with a strange intensity.  Her tail swishes once and she holds her hand up in an effort to call attention to herself.

"Hail," she calls, a quiet growl rumbling under her words.  "May I... Come aboard?"

”I say! Lacus, what have you done!” Kolarios stomped up onto the deck holding a wrinkled and stained bedroll in his hands. ”Why, I left the finest in spinifax cloth here for my bedroll and I return to this? Surely, I can not be expected to lay my head on this infested thing! An adventurer such as myself must be ensured of good dreams and solid slumber if my blade is to be puissant!” He looked around and realized that everyone had grown quiet, eyebrows had arched and open smiling was beginning to cross the faces of the crew. He squinted dangerously and a mischievous smile creased his cheeks. ”Ahhh… tomfoolery of a base kind! Let it be known that I will see you all gain a modicum of balance, eh, of justice on this here trip.” He turned and grumbled his way back under the deck of the ship.

Aalistair moves through the morning bustle on the deck of the ship across to a railing where he can look out over the town of Deadwood from above. The fact that it might be the last time he sees the town is a bit of morose wonderment that does not fail to pass through his mind.

In reply to Wraith Zephyr (msg #57):

Aalistair turns slightly. He nods once to the Cymrilian. "Two reasons." He holds a single finger as he says, "A large band of Beastmen wiped out an entire caravan of pilgrims not too long ago. Their trail, too, heads towards the Fangs. If the Rajani and the Beastmen are in collusion, then it could mean many more deaths lie ahead. Perhaps even our own."

He lowers his finger. "As to the second." He takes in a deep shaky breath. "How many Aamanian air-men have you met? Seen? Heard of?" He holds up a hand to forestall speech. "No, it does not matter. The number is few enough. We do not easily take to the air. The heavens above are the realm of the long dead saints and illuminaries and of course beneficent Aa Himself. We were not born with wings like the Gryph, the Aeriad, or the Stryx. I will not go as far as some of my brethren and say that flight like this for men like us is a blasphemy, but the fact remains that it is an unsettling, unusual, and uneasy thing for man used to the firm rock of Aa's greatest creation under his feet."

As he approaches, he catches part of Aalistair's comments.

"Yes, but if your Aa is anything like the great creator of my people, then He is responsible for us all. Why would He forego you the benefit of the air when he saw fit to allow us to partake of your land. If He were a true separatist, then I would not have feet."

Athellin's stocky frame comes aboard the 'ship, and he bows to Zosha and the others; he is followed by a pair of Arimites.  "I took your request to heart, and here I have found two likely fellows who have experience as windship crewmen.  I present Hakeem and Nohren," he waves his hand over the two Arimites following him.  One is round like a ball, the other thin and angular with sharp features.  In spite of this they look somewhat similar.

Re: Aboard The Horn, 32 Talisandre 620

Having been given permission to walk onto the ship, J'landria leans forward but hesitates.  She sees a few of her new friends on board and she moves forward.  Her tail swishes with some internal agitation and her expression is strangely closed as she walks up the gangplank.  When she reaches the deck she approaches Aalistair and Kar.  She smiles at them, but the smile doesn't quite meet her eyes.

"It is... new... for me as well Aalistair," she says with another twitch of the tip of her tail.  The tip dances and taps on Kar's leg and with a serious look she reaches down and grasps at her tail, pulling it up in her hands and holding it while the tip continues to twitch.  After a few deep breaths the tail stops dancing and she lets it go and she smiles again, this time more genuinely.

In reply to Aalistair (msg #58):

The smile recedes from Wraith's face as he listens to Aalistair speak.  "A compatriot of mine, a sailor named Argentis, survived a Rajan hijacking  back when he first joined the armada.  Most of his crew was slaughtered, and he lost an eye, but he survived, nonetheless.  He said it was the fiercest fight that he's ever participated in."  Wraith places on foot on a wooden crate and leans forward, the smile returning to his face.  "I don't believe in providence, dear pilgrim, but I do believe that every person is tested, at least once in their life.  This very well be our opportunity to find out what we're composed of."  He runs a hand through his cloud-colored hair and says, "Something tells me that you will surprise yourself, Aalistair.  You may be a better  sailor than you think."

Re: Aboard The Horn, Talisandre 620

Aalistair looks at the small assembly before him, turning his back on the view over Deadwood.

To Kar, he says:
"Aa the All-Generative puts everything in its place, Kar. You have feet because you must. But, should you see a fish winging its way across the sky, would you think it strange? Or a shrubbery, swimming far out at sea? Or rather, might I say, does a small drac lingering beside a water hole where predators come to drink cry out that its death is unfair? Aa places each thing where it will best grow." He smiles, slightly. "For most of us, that place is upon the ground."

He nods to J'landria while turning to Wraith.

"I am sorry for your friend's loss. We in Aaman are taught that we are tested daily by Aa. Our resolve, our faith, our trust, our ... love. Aye, some tests are small. We might easily pass a score a day and never notice. All might hinge on one. We may never know what our actions resolve, but Aa sees all and knows all." He bows his head slightly.

"As to my ability aboard this...," he swallows visibly. "...ship. Well, that is a test that remains before me. Do we depart soon?"

In reply to Zosha Davij Inan (msg #65):

"Good morning Zosha", he replies to diminuative kasmirin. "Actually, when I last saw Rammid and Rioniv they were in the company of a small group of their fellow countrymen." Jaxar waves over Mirna to join the discussion. "Rammid was of the opinion that they might be willing to work for us crewing The Fate for a pittance. They are admittedly unskilled, but untrained hands would likely be better than no hands at all. When I spoke to him last I inquired as to whether the other marukans would be willing to help recapture the ship or just crew her after we returned. Either way, Rammid and I agree that we won't find a crew that would work for less." Looking at both women he continues, "I told him I would broach the subject with the two of you to get your input. They are likely waiting to hear back from me right now. What do the two of you think? Even unskilled, would they be worth meals plus a few coppers or a small share of any profit gained?"
