"Aa be praised, we do have an anchor," Aalistair mutters to himself. He looks up in time to see Mirna's shot and hurries to the railing. He peers over the edge at the tower below. "Down," he nearly shouts. "We must go down!"

Wraith braces himself as the vessel begins its descent.  He Prepares the anchor the vessel to a sharp crag, or to the tower itself.  In addition, he keeps his eye on the wounded sentry, and considers wielding magic against him.  Given his recent luck, he thinks better of it, fearing that a spell could potentially draw attention to them.

Mirna again fires her bow as the windship swoops in closer, now just over forty yards away, but still over 50 yards above the tower.

As you approach more closely, it appears the stair the sentry was on top of are a central, spiraling staircase.  It extends above the rest of the tower, as the walls only extend a few feet above the floor at this level.

The sentry ducks behind the staircase, and Mirna's arrow hits the stone step just beside him.  He can be heard yelling, sounding very agitated now.

As you draw nearer, it appears that where the staircase passes through the floor (now roof), there is a makeshift trap door covering it, which is now opening, and another figure steps up onto the floor.

OoC:  Next post, I'll start posting in combat rounds.  I more or less have been, but I'll make it a little more formal starting next post.

Aeletheros works the controls of the windship feverishly, calling out to the crew to adjust trim and sail as needed. With the feedback from his companions he looks to bring the windship within kissing distance of the tower and bring it as close to a stop as he can so that the anchor can be set.

OOC: 12:07, Today: Aeletheros rolled 27 using 1d20+7. Piloting Roll. (critical success! Good timing for that roll!)

Round 1

As the new arrival at the top of the tower clears the trap door, Mirna's arrow strikes home, hitting high, near the left shoulder, causing him to stagger back with a cry.

The deck of the windship tilts forward, toward the bow as it continues to move forward, though at an ever decreasing rate as the sailors draw in the sails.  It now descends quickly, closing to just 15 yards away from the tower, and 20 yards above it.

OoC:  Next round the windship will be very nearly even with the tower.

Aalistair grabs the railing as the Fate tips forward. "Almighty Aa, beneficent in your power, protect this mortal form of your humble servant as he faces down those who are arrayed against you." He prays, one hand making the sign of the All-Seeing Eye over his chest. A faint glow seems to radiate outwards from his white pilgrims garb and he seems more confident afterwards.

Aalistair rolled 15 using 1d20-2. Alter spell, diff 8. Second spell of day.

Round 2

Mirna and Rammid's arrows thud into the upraised shield of the newly arrived guard at the top of the tower.  He quickly retreats behind the staircase with the sentry.  That sentry however, has been busy, nocking an arrow to return fire.  It seems he likely was aiming for Mirna, but the shot goes wide, sailing right over the deck of the windship.

As Wraith swings the anchor in an arc, he lets it fly, expertly placing it just near the sturdy stone staircase.  He then quickly secures his end, taking up the slack as the windship continues to close with the tower -- which it does, still dropping, it comes perhaps within ten feet of the northern edge of the tower, and still about fifteen feet above it, when the anchor line jerks tight, sending a shudder through the entire windship.  The anchor holds in place as the line follows the windship from the west to the north side of the tower.  The air sailors scurry about the deck and rigging; two of the Marukans and one of the Arimites join Wraith to help him secure the anchor line.

Aalistair follows Rammid as far as the railing of the Fate. "This is your chance to surrender," he calls across the distance to the guards though from his last encounter with the heathens that they may not even speak Talislan like civilized Men. He judges the distance from the deck to the tower, wondering if it is safe enough to jump.

Wraith darts about, assisting the crew as they secure the rigging as the vessel drifts and lists precariously close the stone tower.  He keeps an eye on the combat as well.  Once the the rigging is secured, and the crew understands what must be done to protect the vessel, Wraith sprints to the railing, utters one of his foul incantations, and casts lethal arcane magic at the sentry.  A tendril of lightening arches from his outstretched palm and licks the sentry's torso.

OOC:

12:40, Today: Wraith Zephyr rolled 21 using 1d20+7. Wraith attacking with magic (subtracted one from the bonus to account for the spell penalty.  7 damage.)

Round 3

Rammid leaps from the Wind of Fate in what seems sure to be a plummeting, bone crushing fall.  Aalistair follows after him, stopping at the rail just in time to see the Marukan go over the edge and flying across the intervening distance with his axe raised high.  He comes down onto the tower, hard, slowing his fall by bringing his axe crashing down on the Rajan guard and landing heavily, but solidly on this feet with a ringing of his mail.

Cat-quick and silent, J'landria follows Rammid, her Jaka reflexes landing her lightly on the tower top as her blade sweeps out in her hand.

As the windship shakes and shudders on the end of the anchor line, it wraps around the tower.  Mirna loses her shot at the Rajan guard, but the sentry becomes visible around the staircase, and her arrow catches him in the side as he spins to return fire, his shot going wild.

Meanwhile, uttering arcane incantations, Wraith brings lightning dancing to his hand, and it lashes out, striking the sentry as well.

The Fate wraps around the tower, and just to the east of north on the circumference of the structure, it thuds heavily into the ruined wall, knocking loose stone all about and shaking the entire windship (OoC:  Anyone still on board the windship, make the better of a DEX or windship (conveyance or pilot) roll to keep your feet).

The Wind of Fate comes to a rest against the tower, its deck perhaps five feet above the roof.

Aalistair yells to the Rajans.  The guard also yells many things, but it is in the unintelligible Rajan tongue, and he does not appear to be answering the Aamanian.

OoC:

Wraith:  SP -2
Aalistair:  SP -2 (extra PR 2, 9 more rounds)

Aalistair braces himself against the railing as the Fate thuds to a halt. Aye, like that caravan to Deadwood when the Stryx attacked. Wood and stone and somewhere blades in the wind.

Aalistair rolled 19 using 1d20+3 with rolls of 16. Conveyance (Windship).

As the Fate stops and the pilgrim keeps his feet, he watches the others throw themselves into danger. Ah, heavens. I was the one chose this place. Great Aa, grant me the strength to see this day to its end.

With that he leaps down to the tower, staff in hand.
