As the others return to the Gray Tower, they find that Callianos the Sarista has wandered back to the inn after following some of them around a bit, and is already perched upon the edge of a table, with his lutara in hand, strumming a merry jig that has some of the less surly patrons tapping their feet and mugs.

The Sarista looks their way with a broad smile, and beckons them over to his table. As his fingers strum over the lutara's strings, he misses a couple of notes as he bellows a greeting.

"So friends, did you all find what you needed? Tell me, when do we plan upon departing?"

((OOC: Sorry, got distracted. Gearing up to gut my kitchen, demolition starts today o.O Game related question: Not having the equipment list in front of me, I've got to question the prices... one GL for a brace of arrows? I thought a brace was two, that seems really expensive! Assuming we mean 1 GL for a score (20) arrows, Mirna will have bought 100 arrows, and headed back to the Grey tower))

Aastar:
"It is not the evening they seek to escape, but rather the wind and the weather."  He looks about, and sniffs the air, "There is something supernatural in this wind, as we sometimes get out here on the edge of the Wilderlands.  It is best to be under cover when it comes, and let it blow through."

"I see. Well then, good evening."

And with that he sees the increased traffic to the grey tower, and decides to check on Aalistar.

Off to the white bldg.

As most of the group heads back to the Grey Tower, Kar heads to the squat white building at the end of the road.  Ahead, he sees several white robed people enter, then he comes to the solid door.  As he tries it, a grate opens, and a face peering out says, "Greetings, friend Gryph.  May we assist you?"

In reply to Mirna (msg #237):

As more folk stream into the Grey Tower, some are downcast and in a sour mood; others appear to wish to make the best of it, and some are enjoying Callianos' playing, even should he miss a note or two.

Arimites, Pharesians, Marukans, and others begin to crowd the tavern.  A sprinkling of Cymrilians; a Zandir or two; an old crippled Beastman; a pair of Danelek; a few Djaffir; a hulking Sauran; an even larger Ur; and a trio of Yitek.

Balerimos keeps the food and drink flowing, as the tavern doors are closed against the chill wind and the shadows lengthen into night.

Knowing how different cities can be for a jaka visiting one for the first time Jaxar will continue to travel with J'landria, remaining unobtrusive and observing the layout of Deadwood and it's various citizens.

As the day comes to a close and the weather begins to turn Jaxar will suggest gathering with the rest of the party again.

A short time later, Aalistair appears. His head is newly shaven, as is his face. He steps into the room looking a bit confused at first, but when he sees Kar a smile appears.

"Ahh, greetings," he says, extending a hand. "What brings you to our humble monastery this day? Merely a social call? A desire to explore your faith a little deeper? I believe there may be some diplatory elixir left," he says rubbing his bald head.

Though his voice sounds serious there is a self-mocking grin on his face.

While at the Grey Tower tavern, Rammid and Rioniv are first seen at a large table with a number of other Marukans.  While the others gather to eat, Rammid joins them at the table, looking particularly to Jaxar, Mirna, and Zosha.

"You had mentioned potentially needing additional crew.  I don't know that we're going to find much in the way of experienced air sailors hereabouts, but we have a few men who would be willing to serve."  He looks about, quietly.  "I know the lot of us sure got exhausted with just us few trying to crew the entire windship by ourselves."

"That is certainly something to consider.  A windship of this size is generally crewed by a few dozen air sailors.  Arkannon told me of the crew you had -- definitely undercrewed.  We should consider how many crew we need, but also which crewmen we will need in the, ah, retrieval."

She continues her dinner, "The weather appears, perhaps, aberrant?  We should turn in early.  Those of our crew here, we have a large semi-private room for those who would wish to use it.  In the morning, we shall break our fast and meet at the Green Tower and windship."

"Ahh, No. I merely wanted to look in on you as the weather began to turn this evening. With the majority of our company retiring to the tavern, along with much of the local populace, I thought you might need some assistance in preparing for our departure.

I had not realized there were so many others here with you."

Aalistair nods. "Some would say that the charity of the Aamanians helped make this town. Many of us use this place as a site of contemplation, a way to experience the wider world while still having something of the stability of home."

He looks back over his shoulder at the door that leads deeper into the monastery.

"Tell me, Kar. This venture we are to undertake to recover the missing windship...," he sighs. "You'll excuse me, the ways of my people tend to be direct and learning to talk as those of other nations with their circumlocutions and winding manners is difficult. One of my superiors here wonders if we might need additional assistance. I doubt it would be much, but I could likely enlist the aid of several acolytes and aablates for our task. I worry, however, of their reception with the others. My people are not always welcome even when they come with aid." He smiles again. "Too, not all of my people are as ... understanding as I am. There would likely be some animosity on both sides."

As the evening wears on, and the clientele becomes rowdier, Zosha retires to her room.  Athellin stays up for some time, conversing with some of the locals, while Rioniv and Rammid turn in early as well.

The winds howl outside, bringing a night of fitful rest and strange, often disturbing, dreams.

But the night passes, and the wind drops some time in the early morning hours, allowing a few hours, at least, of comforting rest.

Re: Deadwood -- Grey Tower, 31 Talisandre 620 N.A.

Aalistair will thank Kar for his assessment and offer him rest in the Monastery if he doesn't wish to cross town in the brewing storm, but in any case will stay at Aa's Guiding Hand for the night.

He will awaken before dawn for morning ablutions and prayers. Before departing for his walk across town to the Green Tower, he will leave a note for Aasutek.

quote:
I depart for the Green Tower and my journey. With Aa's grace, I shall return ere long. Should there be any in the monastery who have prior experience or knowledge of windships, an unlikely scenario I am sure, but on occasion Aa has surprises still for us all, please send them along to the Green Tower should they be willing to aid in my endeavor. I worry that a brace or more of armed acolytes might put the others ill at ease. Still, as I said before, if there are pilgrims heading east, send them by way of the Fangs of Golarin. Even if they do not make it in time to save any of us, at least they can report back our ultimate fate. - Aalistair

With that task done, he will head to the Green Tower across town, his pack on his back, his sword on his hip, and his staff in his hand.

A knocking at the door brings out the smith from the Blue Hand.  "Ah yes, Mr. Zephyr, your blade and scabbard," he heads back into his shop, and returns with it.  "It is a fine blade, and apparently imbued with aeromantic magics; the exact nature and origin of these elude me."  He hands it back to you.  "Thank you for letting me study this piece -- I hope you enjoyed carrying mine, as well?"

A faint smile floats across Wraith's face as he hands the smith's sword back to him.  "This is by far the lightest, and most well-balanced blade that I've ever carried, good sir."  Wraith examines the scabbard before anchoring it to his hip.  "This weapon feels so heavy in comparison.  I too am interested in its lineage, as it remains as mysterious to me as it does to you, my friend."  Wraith winks and says, "Upon my return to this outpost I shall procure one of your fine weapons."  Turning back, he asks, "The armada issued me an airman's dagger, and I lost it in a bet, several years ago.  I wonder if you have any daggers that would be appropriate for an airman."

The smith considers Wraith's words before answering.  "Indeed I would!  I generally sell swords, or paired swords and daggers, but I could sell you a dagger plain and simple."  He goes back into is shop, and returns with a finely made dagger, with a keen edge and a bright, blue iron blade.  "It is light, like all weapons of blue iron, but strong.  In the manner of dueling that my people have, I've built it with strong crossguards, so in spite of the delicate look it may have, it is as strong a parrying dagger as you could hope to have."  He smiles, and adds, "Yours my friend, for the paltry price of ten gold lumens."

Are they looking for something short-term to get away from Deadwood, or for something more permanent?" He looks to Zosha before continuing, "I don't think we could afford to pay them much, although if they are unskilled, as you say they are, then the training they receive should go a long way in compensation for their labors."

"I don't think they would require much, only perhaps a few coppers to send home to support their families -- that is why many of them are here in Deadwood.  If life is hard here, I think they would work hard just for their meals, and perhaps some small share if we turn a profit in our adventures."  He pauses a moment, considers.  "I don't think we would find crew willing to work for less, and at least the windship would be crewed.  Once we win it back, of course."
