Re: The OOC: We're Obsessed
I've been thinking lately about what we can do to reinvigorate this place. And I got to thinking about when we all met and started writing together. And the thing is, when we started, we were all writers who enjoyed roleplaying. And I think somewhere along the line, we've become roleplayers. But that's not who we are and I think that's why we get burnt out like we do and we get busy and it gets put on the back burner, because it's not as refreshing to us as our first love. We all need to write. And I'm not talking about this stuff. This stuff is fun and I love brainstorming with you guys and writing with you and letting other people help to make the story more interesting and powerful and whatever. But at the end of the day, we all need to be making time to write for ourselves. To write our own stuff.
So, I have a proposal. The month of June is Camp NaNoWriMo. It's the same 50,000 word project as November, but it's more low-key and all the group stuff is online. No physical get-togethers. So I say we take June off. Those of us who want to write something for Camp NaNoWriMo, do that. Those of us who aren't into writing novels, pick something else as our goal for June. Maybe your goal will be to write 15 short stories (that's one every other day). Or maybe the goal is to write and illustrate a children's book (I know that won't be any of us, but it's a valid goal, put out there for illustrative purposes). Whatever the goal, I think we should start a thread in here, state our goals, and encourage each other in them during the month of June. And then maybe we should do something like this every few months.
This time, it's make your own goal. Maybe another time it'll be for each of us to take someone else's Unbound character and write them in an alternate universe scenario. I'd love to see David as written by Sopha. Or Dee as written by Britt. And then maybe another time we can do drawings or photoedits of each other's characters. Or just whatever. But I think that trying to get our engines going by sitting around waiting for them to start is the wrong path. Engines don't start by themselves. Engines start when you stick the key in and turn it. They need that little jolt of electricity. And I think it's hard to get that little jolt of electricity going in a group like this, when we're all available at different times. I think we all need a jolt, but we're not going to be able to get it from each other at this point in our lives. So let's each figure out our kickstart, and get to kicking in June.
