Roisin nodded, waiting behind the others, as she would be less effective than the others should there be conflict awaiting them in the next room. She motioned to the statue to step forward, while she began focussing on her magic.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

Angharad listens a bit to Coli and looks back at the ground. She turns quizzically toward the way out, then back toward the hall with the bedroom and torture chamber. She walks down the hall to where Olven, Grettanah and Barrack are searching.

She nocks an arrow and mentions conversationally, "Coli thinks there are more draconians coming down here than out."

Looking into the bedroom, she asks about the other door in that room, "Have we gone through that one?"

In reply to Olven Wolf (msg # 422):

Grettanah nods in responce to the fellows realization. Stepping towards te door she examines it for traps If she spots none she opens the door slightly then stands to one side and pushes it open; allowing the others a clear view inside the room.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

As the heroes gathered at the other door in the bedroom, D'aden still in the hallway leading to the bedroom, Grettanah examined the door in a way that clearly showed that they hadn't been beyond it. When satisfied she opened the door.

For as far as the heroes could see, more than 50 feet before what was beyond was claimed by shadows their light source couldn't pierce at that distance, they saw straight halls and cross halls separated by square columns of stone of the same width.

Giving Barrack a nod they entered the room moving forward cautiously. She scanned the immediate area for threats, traps and such. After moving 40' she paused waiting for the others to join them.

Spear in one hand, shield in the other, Olven advances down the hall, keeping pace with Grettanah, his senses alert for danger.

OOC:  Continue down the hall.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

Roisin sighed heavily "Light magic is the one area I've never dabbled in. I really must take the time to become well acquainted in it." Ochre yawned as he draped around her shoulder raising one eyelid. His nostrils flared as his nose took in the room. He sighed mirroring Roisin before dropping off her shoulder to go pacing ahead.

"Yes, I agree. Stay close though." she said to the tiny dragon, motioning for the statue to stand in front of her as they progressed into the room. She patted it as it passed her as a sign to Utrecht she was close. She wasn't sure the construct would even know or recognise her, but the gesture was ressuring. "Utrecht, stay close."

Angharad walked slowly down the hall, wary. Coli's claws clicked behind her. She tried to keep her arrow down, away from her companions. She looked hard into the nooks and crannys, trying to understand the labyrinth they were in.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

As she moved deeper into the hallway, she realized there was no external source of light. Almost as an after thought, she lowered the upper tip of her bow and focused upon it. It slowly began to glow with definite, but dim light. She raised the bow tip above her head to get the light itself out of her field of vision, but still useful while she peers around.

Roisin lowered her backpack to the floor, reaching into it, she withdrew a lantern. After she made sure it was filled with oil, she lit the wick to bring a warm glow around her.

Now that Roisin & Angharad had provided sources of light Grettanah was eager to continue their exploration. Flanked by Barrack the pair cautiously moved forward.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

Grettanah and Olven walked into the pillar hall before everyone else. As they continued forward, everything they saw continued to be the same. Corridor, pillar, corridor, pillar. And on and on for as far as they could see.

Roisin followed them close behind with her tiny dragon on her shoulders and her large statue walking next to her.

Angharad, with her large dire wolf next to her, cast a spell, producing a dim light. And Roisin took out and lit her lantern.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

D'aden puts away everything but his staff, and walks just behind the light-carriers. "It does make it easier to see, but it also announces our presence."
However, he appears content to calmly walk with the lights. Calmly, but not quietly, as he begins to sing under his breath,
Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower, leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We'll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I think JRRT would forgive me this bit of plagiarism.

In reply to Dragondog (msg # 436):

The dual song suggests either and echo or a highly skilled mimic. Pointing towards the left she suggesting this to Barrack Turning to look at Roisin & Angharad she considers for a short time then decided against asking them what she was thinking. Pulling a coin from her pouch she gestures and a light appears on the coin. Handing it to Barrack she asks if he could toss it as far as he can down the left passage.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

Barrack threw the coin straight into the left corridor, the coin illuminating its passage with the light of a candle. It quickly past through the illuminated area around the heroes. And as it went further and further away, a candle light was quickly approaching the heroes from straight ahead. Each hero dodging to make sure they weren't hit by it. The glowing coin landed and skidded to a stop at D'aden's feet.

D'aden looks down the corridor in front, and grins, "Could you all wait here a moment, there's something I have to try."
Without waiting for an answer he runs, as fast as he can, in the same direction the coin was tossed. As he does so, he sings at the top of his lungs
"row row row your boat gently down the stream merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream"
over and over and over again.

"We seem to be caught in a loop," Olven Wolf says dryly, coming to a halt.  "Did the rest of you hear D'aden's song?  It was behind at first, and then ahead."  He looks around, and then ahead at the crossing corridor.  "We should try to get out of this place or break the trap.  Perhaps we should turn at the corridor."

He looks behind him back the way we came.  "Or perhaps we should go back the way we came.  Unless this is part of the trap, in which we'll just continue in this loop forever."

D'aden made his way past the others up to the front, turned left and started running and singing simultaneously. While Angharad stepped into a side corridor. Mere seconds later D'aden returned to the heroes from straight ahead.

"Before any of us explore this next area...it seems as though something strange is going on in there. I swear I could see D'aden running in the opposite direction to start with and then his song moved." Roisin frowned "So...something is happening to alter our direction without us necessarily being aware of it happening. Perhaps we should mark where D'aden turned to the left and tell him to side step to his right to keep progressing in the same direction?"

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

D'aden says, almost smirking, "I'm sorry about that. I've always been fond of singing a round while I'm running around."
As he waves back in the direction he came from, he says, "this corridor seems to meet itself in that direction, which suggests the only way out is through a side door. I guess there's also the possibility that this was some magical construction that has decayed to the point that it lets things in, but not out. If that is truly the case, we'll have plenty of time to contemplate how to fix it."

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

"Okay, I think we can take for granted that this magical defence is formidable. Any magic I can use here is unlikely to dissolve the fabric of the spell. What we need to figure out is how to keep moving in a direction we want despite the magic in play...and also which direction we would like to travel in. Someone could lose themselves in here forever." Roisin glanced at Olven "Do you truly see something?" She whispered to Ochre "Do you see anything?"
