It's coming together well, but I'll need a day yet.  The new case is a major pain.

Your characters don't know this yet, but to truly study the Icon of Truth, takes 8 hours per day for a week. And it has to be done alone.

You could choose to do it in sequence and stay here for as many weeks as there are persons in the group who want to read it. Or you can do it in shifts, which means that three people can do it in one week, but those characters wouldn't be able to interact with the other two at all during that week.

But then studying in the library would take time too, which you wouldn't be allowed to do until you had completed your study of the Icon of Truth and pledged allegiance to the High God.

This change would be a greater impact for some of you than it would be for others. Studying the Icon of Truth will inform you of what the High God has to offer and what would be required of you if you pledged allegiance. Only after that do you make the choice to give your allegiance or not.

Olven is up for the challenge. We’ll need to find a place where he can be barricaded for the night, though.

I vote for doing shifts, and worrying about whether the others are becoming involved in some dangerous plot.

To facilitate any questions you might have, I'm posting this in the OOC thread, instead of in an OOC section of the IC thread.

Those of you who choose to abandon your old gods and follow the High God will be able to learn to use both arcane and divine magic. At the same time! You will earn Magery 0 [5] if you don't have it. You may elect to take Clerical Investment [5] if you don't have it and want to be an ordained priest of the High God. Those who have Magery 0 or have/don't want Clerical Investment can use the 5 or 10 points saved on additional levels of Magery or Power Investiture. You do not need both of those advantages to use both types of magic. This means that both arcane and divine spells will be available to you. Though Gate spells and most Technological spells are still off limits as mentioned in the House Rules thread.

You will also have Religious Rank (High God) 0 [0] as a member of the Order. But it will not give you a Duty to the Order.

In addition, you may take Order related disadvantages to get additional points to spend on traits that could have come from this epiphany.

Let me know in PMs what, if anything, particular you want to do with the rest of your time during this week.

I'm ashamed to say I completely missed your last song reference, but my daughter asked for the movie this Christmas, and I realized your allusion when I was looking back over the latest thread. =)

I'm a little in a quandary.

Would Roisin accept the invitation?
There are good answers for both yes and no.

That is completely up to you.

And there are two steps to the invitation. The first is to read the Icon of Truth. It takes a week of your time, but you don't have to make any commitments until you have finished reading. And choosing to switch allegiance from Solinari to the High God, will open new doors, but it will also close old ones.

Olven, D'aden, and Alvin all wanted to read the Icon of Truth. So we can say that they read it first. And they all decided to follow the High God. And you might want to talk to them IC and find out why.

If you want to be a Solinari following white-robed wizard, you shouldn't change.

Before you joined the group, there was another character who was in a similar situation. Change who you are to get information that will help the group. The player didn't want to change, but he chose to change for the team. I thought he was fine with that choice, but he shortly thereafter left the game.

It seems that he believed that he had to do it for the group and didn't like how his character changed. But at the same time, another character got the same information in another way.

So what I'm saying is this. You should stay true to the vision of your character. And make your choices based on that. If you want to change, you can do that. If you don't want to change, you shouldn't.

Stuff happened to Olven and you know what he's dealing with. As I've been throwing out hints regarding his coming change for a long time, the player noticed even though the character at first did not. And there is a cure, so I knew that Olven could get out of it if he wanted to.

Some time ago, before Olven's change had fully manifested, your choices in the Lyceum placed D'aden in front of a possible change and I mentioned it to him. I did this because there was no cure and I didn't want to unilaterally change his character in such a major way. It resulted in no change.

Choice is very important to me. And I don't want to force you into anything. We're here to have fun. The characters may go through some tribulation along the way, but it is your choice that changes them and determines what adventures they have. Not my fiat.

And when I sat down to respond, I wasn't planning on writing this much, but here we are. So in summary. You make the choice. The choice you want to make for your character. And consider the needs of the group only if you want to. And in this case, you have three characters you can ask IC that might give you new information that might inform your choice.

Let's go with the "not making my mind up" at the moment.
It's pretty sure I'd read the Icon of Truth along with the others.
I think it might depend on interaction with the others in the tower and how persuasive the icon is itself in terms of argument and discourse.

I mean I might discuss it in PM with you.

Roisin is really busy at work at the moment, so let's try to work around her.

Leading up to this point, we can assume that she wants to spend time in the library performing research. Is there anything, in particular, you would like to do at the tower or in Palanthus?

While focusing on study, D'aden will also look for more people to befriend, more songs to learn, something more in the woods to hunt, and somewhere else to fish. Depending on how long they linger, he might also start, or help with, a herb garden.
