Re: Out in the Storm

[[OOC: So +2 damage your attacks until the power ends. Remember that I'm basing the penalty on the power's rank, not the power points used. Still -2, but for different reasons. Also, what is your next round's initiative? So far I have:

Robert Micklethwait: on Hold
Alouette: On hold
Charing Bear: Read Joker (+2 to Trait tests and damage, Go any time), Fatigued
Father William O'Rourke: Kng of Hearts, Active Smite (3 rounds remaining)
[Private to GM: The Amazing Evans: 10 of Hearts]
August Colby: 8 of Diamonds
Second Chance Yank: 5 of diamonds, Shaken and Grappled, 1 wound
John Smith: 4 of Hearts

Oh, and you've drawn some other attention by now. New map to follow!]]

Re: Out in the Storm

[[OOC: Man am I glad I have chips...I'll spend a white chip from the pool for each attack...09:44, Today: Second-Chance Billy Yank rolled 2,2 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,2. soak attempt 1. That should actually be 1,1, since it has a wound penalty...so one more wound from the padre. Remembering the wound penalties: 09:45, Today: Second-Chance Billy Yank rolled 4,1 using d8-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 6,3. soak attempt 2. Soaking the wound caused by Charging Bear's second attack, which also removes his Shaken status. It ignores the Shaken from his first because this critter has the Hardy trait, so additional Shaken results don't cause it additional wounds.

So. All in all, it suffers 1 more wound from all the punishment thrown at it, and is looking a bit like ground hamburger.

CB, it looks like you forgot to take your Fatigue level into account when attacking. Not that it matters, since you rolled really, really high anyway, but something to keep in mind.]]

The padre's shot plows a furrow along the top of the soldier's head, knocking his hat clean off in the process. Then Charging Bear goes to town with his tomahawks, tearing into it with righteous fury.

The undead soldier weathers the assault, and begins to laugh. "Ah! And here we see the good people so afraid of the message that they will shoot the humble messenger. I feel my hold beginning to slip...I wonder how you will explain attacking a defenseless lunatic in the streets, who had raised no hand against any of you, and caused no injury save some soiled trousers, to the Law when it arrives..."

OOC:I didn't think undead had wound penalties...?

Robert speaks up, "Then maybe you should deliver your message, clearly, before you lose your chance."

11:10, Today: Robert Micklethwait rolled 8,15 using d8+4,d6+4, rerolling max with rolls of 4,(6+5)11. persuasion test of will.

OOC I figue if it ends up "shaken", it'll be busy talking and not fighting.

Enter The Amazing Evans!

[[OOC: True, thanks for the reminder. Second-Chance Billy Yank rolled 2,2 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,2. Resisting Test of Will. Boy its rolls really suck. Not that it had a chance in Hell of beating a 15, even with it's Wild Die. It's Shaken again. However, now I get to introduce the new player, who goes on the Ten of Diamonds...The Amazing Evans!]]

"Yes, I think I'd be very interested in what it has to say," calls a voice from behind Robert. "In fact, I'm certain I'd like to hear statements from all of you here. In my office, where it's dry, warm, and secure."

The voice comes from a dandy of a gentleman, who had strolled up while the others were clustering around the undead soldier. With his slicked-back black hair, curled mustache and goatee, and black suit complete with top hat and tails, this man looks as if he'd stepped out of a dime novel...or perhaps off of the Joker from a pack of playing cards. He holds an umbrella in one hand, and a horribly complicated pistol with clockwork gyromounts, knobs, and levers in the other. On his chest is pinned a tin star. There's an easy smile on his face, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes.

"In the vernacular of my counterparts across the pond, what's all this, then?"

Re: Enter The Amazing Evans!

The automaton still does nothing more than hold on, but it does point its head at the newcomer, the pale glow behind the dark lens-eyes as visible as the red glow of the "demon"'s through the rain and clearly inhuman.

"Forgive them sheriff," it says, slowly as though having to sort its words, "-they know not what they do."

John doesn't move or take his eyes from the thing, though he does slip the river stones back into his pocket removing his hands and appearing, for all intents and purposes, unarmed. "Sir, I think if you take a closer look at that there feller you'll find our actions aren't entirely unreasonable. One o' his dead preachin' kin attacked my friend and I on our way to your fair town." he said raising his voice to be heard above the weather as he glared at the thing. The dead simply had no business walking amongst the living as far as he was concerned.

The soldier goes limp in Alouette's grip. "Oh bless you sir, help me! I was going about my business when these foul ruffians sicced their mechanical abomination on me, the hold me still while they ties to shoot me and chop me to pieces! Oh please, sir, save me from their pernicious hands!" he pleads, loudly and melodramatically.

"There is such a diverse lot here, I hardly know what to consider reasonable at this point. All I know is that I was yanked from what was shaping up to be a very pleasant visit with a very lovely woman by the very unpleasant sound of gunfire on my very wet and cold town streets, so you'll forgive me if I'm in something of a foul temper." The dapper man says. "Now, if any of you mistook my offer to move this particular conversation indoors, away from the wet, the cold, and the prying eyes of the rest of town, as a request, then I can go through the formality of arresting the lot of you. And lest any of you contemplate running, I can assure you I am an excellent shot with the firearm in my hand. Now, would you kindly begin moving this way, please? Or am I going to have to get unpleasant?"

"No need to get all in a huff, Marshal." Robert says soothingly.  "It's just that the fella over there, why when I broght him in he seemed deader 'n dirt.  Just ask Underhill, he's the one what come into the saloon ranting about dead men walking.  We came out, why, he was spewing all kind of biblical things, even the preacher seemed ready to top him.  Dead man or not, he was acting crazy, we don't want him to go off and hurt someone."

10:27, Today: Robert Micklethwait rolled 7,9 using d8+4,d6+4, rerolling max with rolls of 3,5. persuation.

Re: Enter The Amazing Evans!

The automaton just stays where it is, clearly no more about to do anything violent or let the once-man go than it was before, whether the humans try to destroy the revenant or go into the warm to talk the lawman around. It disregards Evans' order completely, either unaware that it is included or ignoring it for lack of scriptural precedent in the matter of arresting angels.

"Biblical not...demon equal thing of darkness: pain feed, panic feed, plus plus demon substance. Angel primary command: halt demons. Primary comand: warn. Primary command: protect." It twitches a bit with ambient electricity.

"Seemed dead, you say...hmmm" The marshal ponders this, then looks back at John. "And you said you were attacked by another one...oh, bugger." He sighs. "Well, I suppose I owe you folk an apology, though I can't say I condone the shooting of crazy people--some of the finest men I have ever known have been a bit off their rocker, after all. If you'll release the crazy person into my custody, or, better yet, since you seem to have him well in hand, haul him to the jail yourselves, I'll put him in a nice cell, away from people he might hurt."

[Private to Robert Micklethwait: "And if he's something more..." he says, much lower in volume, to Robert "well, then I think we have a serious problem that I'm going to need some...specialized help dealing with. Don't you agree?"]

Charging Bear takes in all that he is seeing and hearing. The rain bounces off the braves deadly blades creating a rather musical sound, though the bits of flesh from the reanimated creature before the group speaks of the true purpose of the weapons.

Take a dead man to jail, this should go horribly...

"I reckon we can do that, sir," August offers cautiously.  A lawman is near enough the best person to handle the situation, he figures.  His Colt is still in hand, but he takes care not to point it anywhere near the marshal.

"Will you get a preacher or a doctor to take a look at him, while he's in there?  Right quick, I'd suggest, sir.  Because they ain't fooling around - this is not a normal man here."

O'Rourke lowered his carbine at the sheriff's arrival, somewhat relieved at the presence of the law and at Evans' response to the strange circumstances. Even as the Sheriff ordered Alouette to move the man with the burning eyes to the jail, the priest remained watchful, fearful for how the madman might react to the threat of confinement.

The machine looks like it's not going to do anything for a moment, then lurches towards Evans, still holding the dead man no more or less tightly than it was before - will happily drag him if he can't keep his feet. Where possible, it passes the others out of flailing reach of the undead. Eventually the weird bronze head looms near Evans, metallic and alien - not coming close enough for the "demon" to grab him, either.

"God controls angel," it informs him calmly, bits of hacked zombie washing off its pretty casing. "Understanding: true. Object: demon is negative gentleman - clay only. Corpse stolen. Gentleman value unknown. Have demanded avaunt: demon null avaunt. Exorcise?"
