Thatch scratches his head in amazement (or atlast he thinks he is scratching it) at the fact that the world around him has frozen in time, he can see everyone breathing and but slightly moving, and maybe someone is saying something but he cannot quiet hear it.  Of course he is equally amazed at the brush and foliage seem to also be affected by this time warp ....
