Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Soundtrack

Who wants an extra Drama Point?

One of the features which set Buffy apart from most teen shows was the quality, diversity, and (occasionally) obscurity of the soundtrack.  Most bands playing The Bronze were up-and-coming indie bands...or just festive one-hit wonders.  Still, the songs brought the fun and fit each Episode nicely!

Here's a friendly challenge:  pick a soundtrack that you think would fit Season 1 of the "rebooted" Buffy!  There are three requirements:

          1.  The songs must come from the early 90's to early '97.
          2.  The songs should reflect the teen experience.
          3.  They should say "Savannah--Meet Buffy Summers!"

Winner gets awarded an extra Drama Point!

Tracy Chapman - Give Me One Reason:

Give me one reason to stay here - and I'll turn right back around
Give me one reason to stay here - and I'll turn right back around
Said I don't want leave you lonely
You got to make me change my mind

Baby I got your number and I know that you got mine
But you know that I called you, I called too many times
You can call me baby, you can call me anytime
But you got to call me

Give me one reason to stay here - and I'll turn right back around
Give me one reason to stay here - and I'll turn right back around
Said I don't want leave you lonely
You got to make me change my mind

I don't want no one to squeeze me - they might take away my life
I don't want no one to squeeze me - they might take away my life
I just want someone to hold me and rock me through the night

This youthful heart can love you yes and give you what you need
I said this youthful heart can love you and give you what you need
But I'm too old to go chasing you around
Wasting my precious energy

Give me one reason to stay here - and I'll turn right back around
Give me one reason to stay here - and I'll turn right back around
Said, I don't want leave you lonely
You got to make me change my mind

Baby just give me one reason - Give me just one reason why
Baby just give me one reason - Give me just one reason why I should stay
Said I told you that I loved you
And there ain't no more to say

Re: Savannah--Meet Buffy Summers!

It just so happens that a remastered version of Nina Simone's "Sunday in Savannah" came out in 1993. Does that count?

One more
Sunday in Savannah
hear the whole creation shoutin'
Praise the Lord
see them flinging out the banner
while the congregation says Amen

Young folk
'tendin Sunday School
they sing merrily 'bout the golden rule
Parsons, preaching all the day
they holler in the righteous way

It's time for me to call on old Aunt Hannah
while she sits there wishing for her last reward
one more Sunday in Savannah

Don't ya dare
go fishin' son
Amen

"Ain't No Rest For the Wicked"- Cage the Elephant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t99bpilCKw

I was walking down the street when out the corner of my eye,
I saw a pretty little thing approaching me.
She said i never seen a man, who looks so all alone,
Could you use a little company?
If you pay the right price, your evening will be nice,
You can go and send me on my way,
I said your such a sweet young thing, why'd you do this to yourself?
She looked at me and this is what she said.

There ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees,
I got bills to pay i got a mouth to feed,
There aint nothing in this world for free.
I can't slow down,
I can't hold back,
Although you know i wish i could,
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good.

Not even 15 minutes later,
After walking down the street,
When i saw the shadow of a man creep out out of sight,
Then he crept up from behind,
Put a gun up to my head,
He made it clear he wasn't looking for a fight,
He said give me all you've got,
I want your money not your life,
If you try to make a move i wont think twice,
I told him you can have my cash,
But you know I've got to ask,
What made you want to live this kind of life?

He said there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money dont grow on trees,
I got bills to pay I got a mouth to feed
Ain't nothing in this world for free.
I can't slow down,
I can't hold back,
Although you know I wish I could
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good.

Now a couple hours past,
And I was sitting in my house,
The day was winding down and coming to an end,
So I turned on the TV,
And flipped it over to the news,
And what I saw I almost couldn't comprehend,
I saw a preacher man in cuffs,
He'd taken money from the church,
He'd got a bank account with righteous dollar bills,
But even still I cant say much 'cause I know we're all the same,
We all seek out to satisfy those thrills

You know there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees,
We got bills to pay,
We got mouths to feed
Ain't nothing in this world for free.
We cant slow down,
We cant hold back
Although you know we wish we could
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good.

"Breathe"- Alexi Murdoch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-49G3jJP5Q

In the quiet of the shadow
In the corner of a room
Darkness moves upon you
Like a cloud across the moon
You're a-wearing all the silence
Of a constant that will turn
Like the windmill left deserted
Or the sun forever burn

So don't forget to breathe
Don't forget to breathe
Your whole life is here
No eleventh hour reprieve
So don't forget to breathe
Keep your head above water
But don't forget to breathe

And all the suffering that you've witnessed
And the hand prints on the wall
They remind you how it's endless
How endlessly you fall
And the answer that you're seeking
For the question that you found
Drives you further to confusion
As you lose your sense of ground

So don't forget to breathe
Don't forget to breathe
Your whole life is here
No eleventh hour reprieve
So don't forget to breathe
Keep your head above water
But don't forget to breathe
Breathe....

Don't forget to breathe
Don't forget to breathe
You know you are here
But you find you want to leave
So don't forget to... breathe

Just breathe
Just breathe
Just breathe...
Just breathe...
Just breathe...

Re: Savannah--Meet Buffy Summers!

Your local used-and-rare book proprietor maintains a constant soundtrack of classic jazz and standards, with frequent tribute to local bard Johnny Mercer.
