This file has been uploaded to all of your personal computers at my behest. The file contains data, both known and conjectural, on the types and functions of alien mecha we have encountered in "the field". This file is classified ABOVE TOP SECRET, per UEDF 'MILITARY INTELLIGENCE ACT'. Revealing or sharing this information with non-UEDF/RDF personnel, or UEDF/RDF personnel without AT LEAST Level Fourteen (14) Security Clearance, will result in immediate solitary imprisonment of no less than six (6) years.

In the interest of continually supplementing the knowledge we have, derived from the wreckage of mecha types encountered on the SUPER DIMENSIONAL FORTRESS ONE (see attached), I have made this file available to all fighter squadron pilots aboard the Ranger. This has been compiled using scans taken by myself or the Combat Information Center Technicians. Nominally, sensitive information such as this is EWO/Command-Only, but I'm breaking the rules here in order to keep all of you alive. Keep in mind that, again, this is CLASSIFIED. Do not, under any circumstances, allow anyone to know that you possess this file. I will deny any involvement.

SUPER DIMENSIONAL FORTRESS ZERO-ONE

Description:
 The SDF-01 Macross was the first glimpse we had of alien technology. This colossal vessel broke through the very fabric of hyper-space in the year 1999, on a collision course with the Earth. The Fortress caused catastrophic damage around the world as it descended towards Macross Island (ref. #789-F415) in the South Pacific.

 Initially wary, the governments of the Earth united in the face of evidence of potential alien invasion, and immediately began study/reconstruction of the vessel. Headed by Doctor Emil Lang, Ph.D., the research team began uncovering the secrets of the aliens' mysterious technology, dubbed ROBOTECH. This new technology was utilized to build the first generation VERITECH Fighters, which would assist the Fortress in its role as flagship of a new United Earth Defense Force space Navy. It took ten years and cost astronomical sums of money, but the SDF-01 Macross was completed and prepared to launch in February 2009, though that did not go exactly as planned. (Ref.  We do not know what has happened to the Fortress, only that it has vanished along with its complement of Combat/Support Craft, Macross Island and its residents, and the bulk of the alien armada.

 Further information on the SDF-01 and its combat capabilities is unavailable at this time. However, UEDF Command has begun construction of a second Macross-class Super Dimensional Fortress/Aerospacecraft Carrier, the SDF-02 Odyssey, at Apollo Base on the Lunar Surface. Whether this SDF-02 can provide accurate combat data on the SDF-01 upon completion is, as of yet, unknown.

 The only weapon system that we have, to date, seen operational is an apparent discharge from the Super Heavy Reflex Cannon prior to the initial alien invasion. DST cameras recorded a nova hot beam of energy radiating from the Macross' location into space near the moon, incinerating several advancing vessels. All else is conjectural.

 It is unknown whether any additional classes of these ships are operational in the alien armada.

Description:
 Only one of these has been encountered so far. Luckily, I was the one who got the drop on it -contrary to popular opinion- and managed to get a fairly detailed scan. After an in-depth review of information (via teleconferencing) with Armstrong Research & Development, it appears that this mecha is the aliens' equivalent to our own Cat's/Tiger's Eye Recon Planes.

 It is believed to possess fairly comprehensive ECM/ECCM systems, extrapolated from the fact that it was quite capable of remaining hidden until the VEF-2X Prototype was right on top of it. It is known to possess a staggering array of missile launchers, but there also are two double-barreled protrusions jutting from the prow of the vessel. Whether or not these are weapons or some other strange equipment is yet to be revealed.

[SCPO Lucas Bixby]: It appears to be a valuable commodity to the aliens, so much that any show of force would force it to retreat to protect its valuable data. I witnessed this first hand upon my initial encounter, even though the Two Ex is incapable of inflicting any serious damage. Leads me to believe that we can scare these off if we catch 'em snooping around.

Description:

The Battlepod was the first look we Earthlings had at alien infantry hardware. Several hulks were recovered from the wreckage of the SDF-01 Macross and were partially reconstructed in order to understand the integrated machinery.

Judging by the alien’s preferred tactic of using these in swarming maneuvers, we strongly believe this is their Standard Model, much in the same way as our own VF-1As are. They are under-armored by our standards, as only a few shots from VF autocannons are capable of utterly destroying them, however their weapon payload is enough to be a threat, especially when they are in swarm formation.

Of great interest to UEDF R&D is the fact that these units seem to lack dedicated life-support systems. Analysis of wreckage indicates that there is no atmospheric reprocessing system aboard, meaning that extended engagements could result in asphyxiation of the pilot, assuming that they do breathe at all. We just do not know, as the corpses we recovered from the Fortress were too highly decomposed to make sense of.

Description:

A variant of the Alien Battlepod, this model appears to be a Light Artillery variant, designed for suppression, siege, and anti-air duties. These 'pods are armed with twin batteries of Medium Range Missile Launchers, loaded with HEAP rounds that are quite capable of inflicting a moderate amount of damage to UEDF Valkyries.

They are, however, incapable of significantly damaging the armor of the ARMD-series spacecraft, due to the triple-thich hull plating. Recordings of these 'pods were picked up being transmitted from Macross Island and they appeared to be better suited for siege/suppression or anti-air battery duties. What film we have shows their tactic of "perching" at a higher altitude and delivering their payloads into civilian sectors in a 'scorched earth' pattern - they stagger their fire to inflict carpeted damage in a wide area.

Considered a significant threat. Should be targeted before the Standard Model.

Description:

A variant of the Alien Battlepod, this model appears to be a Heavy Artillery variant, designed for suppression, siege, and anti-air duties. These 'pods are armed with twin batteries of Tactical Ballistic Missile Launchers, loaded with HEAP rounds that are quite capable of inflicting a devastating amount of damage to UEDF Valkyries.

These 'pods are dangerous in the extreme, even to the ARMD-class Carriers, as their missiles are capable of punching holes through our armor. However, their weakness lies in the fact that they only carry four missiles each with no reloads. Forcing them to deploy their payloads, or destroy them outright, before they can threaten the ship is of paramount concern. These particular missiles seem incapable of tracking a target to a degree. High-G manuevers, used in conjunction with chaff dispensers should be enough to ensure pilot safety.

Considered a significant threat.

Description:

Fast and furious. That's the best way to describe these mean little buggers. Capable of engaging Veritechs in and out of atmosphere, they are blazing fast and hit hard enough to destroy a Veritech in just a couple of passes. Fortunately, they are even lighter in their armor than even the standard Alien Battle Pod. A well-placed missile to the ventral hull has a guaranteed kill rate of 90%.

Unfortunately, they don't give you that often near enough. These guys come en masse, often numbering in the hundreds. Like many of the alien craft, they lack a dedicated life support system, so breaching the cockpit in space could be another viable tactic if the opportunity presents itself.
