Veritech Master List

Okay, everybody, here it is. Command has requested that we all take a refresher course on what capabilities and systems our Veritechs have. Apparently, some of the groundside pilots have trouble remembering their job, so now we ALL have to suffer. Figures, right?

As it is, I'm going to personally go through our files and upload technical data and specifications on all known Veritech models that we use. That way, we all fulfill our sides of the bargain and don't get screamed at by the brass.

VF-1A

Model Type: VF-Series Model -1A Valkyrie
Class: Single Seat, All-Environment Variable Fighter and Combat Battloid
Crew: One
Weaponry: x1 LLW-20 CIWS Laser, x1 GU-11 55mm Triple Barreled Rotary Cannon, x4 Wing Mounted Articulated Missile Hardpoints (Variable Loadout)
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, "Magic Hands" Retractable Utility Arms, Two Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero & Cockpit Assembly)

Description: Nicknamed the "Brownie" for its usual off-white/tan coloration, the -1A is the standard Veritech in use by the RDF and is the only Veritech many pilots will ever fly. The VF-1A serves many roles in the new Order of Battle, from dogfighting, urban combat, guard duty, and firefighting roles (VF-1AR). VF-1As are mass-produced at several locations on Earth and the Moon, though with the loss of the Fortress and its irreplaceable factories (which build the engine components), these fighters have quickly become a valuable commodity since those that are currently completed are going to be the ONLY ones until either the Fortress returns or a new engine design is completed.

VF-1D

Model Type: VF-Series Model -1D Trainer Valkyrie
Class: Two Seat, All-Environment Variable Fighter and Combat Battloid
Crew: Two; One Pilot Trainee & One Pilot Trainer
Weaponry: x2 LLW-20 CIWS Laser, x1 GU-11 55mm Triple Barreled Rotary Cannon, x4 Wing Mounted Articulated Missile Hardpoints (Variable Loadout)
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, "Magic Hands" Retractable Utility Arms, Two Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero & Cockpit Assembly), Redundant Control Systems

Description: The VF-1D Veritech is the standard "Training" Veritech in use by the RDF. Unlike many other designs, the -1D features a dual-seat cockpit and redundant control systems. The pilot trainee flies from the front seat and the pilot trainer flies in the rear, able to override the Trainee's control at any time using the RDS. VF-1Ds are rare among combat squadrons, due to their very nature. As such, many -1Ds are located on Earthside air bases, though many Armor-class Aerospacecraft Carriers have at least one squadron for familiarization flights in zero-g.

All VF-1Ds are painted in what is derisively called "Caution Orange", leading many seasoned pilots to stay away from obvious rookies.

VF-1J

Model Type: VF-Series Model -1J Valkyrie
Class: Single Seat, All-Environment Variable Fighter and Combat Battloid
Crew: One
Weaponry: x2 LLW-20 CIWS Laser, x1 GU-11 55mm Triple Barreled Rotary Cannon, x4 Wing Mounted Articulated Missile Hardpoints (Variable Loadout)
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, "Magic Hands" Retractable Utility Arms, Two Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero & Cockpit Assembly)

Description: The VF-1J is known across the board as the Junior Officer's Veritech. Mainly a cosmetic variation of the -1A, the -1J is often assigned to flight leaders or their executive officers, depending on availability. Issued with a flat white paint job, the -1Js are the first Veritechs that many pilots are allowed to custom paint. UEDF Command decided to allow a bit of freedom in this, as the specially-colored fighters would be more easily identifiable by friendly troops. This has the disadvantage, however, of being immediately identifiable by enemy mechas as well.

Only one out of every three VF-1As is upgraded into a VF-1J, making them somewhat uncommon.

VF-1S

Model Type: VF-Series Model -1S Valkyrie
Class: Single Seat, All-Environment Variable Fighter and Combat Battloid
Crew: One
Weaponry: x4 LLW-20 CIWS Laser, x1 GU-11 55mm Triple Barreled Rotary Cannon, x4 Wing Mounted Articulated Missile Hardpoints (Variable Loadout)
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, "Magic Hands" Retractable Utility Arms, Two Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero & Cockpit Assembly), Command/Control/Communications (C3) System, Command Integration Module

Description: This is the big time Veritech, the VF-1S. Flown only by Commander Air Groups or elite Squadron Leaders, the -1S is the ultimate extension of air superiority. The VF-1S is built from the ground-up to be what it is, unlike other models which are just variations of the -1A, making each VF-1S a unique work of art. This VT is designed to take command of a large group of fighters and coordinate attacks with a home base or an orbital carrier group. Pilots of the VF-1S are allowed the greatest freedom in customization, usually a signature color palette with unit markings. Many Squadrons that have a VF-1S at their lead adopt their colors from that -1S.

Only fifty VF-1S fighters are known to exist at this time, the most famous of which is the VF-1S flown by Roy Fokker, Commander Air Group of the SDF-01 Macross and CO of Skull Squadron.

VEF-1

Model Type: VEF-Series Model "-1" Veritech
Class: Two Seat, All-Environment Electronic Warfare and Advanced Warning Battloid
Crew: Two; Pilot and Electronic Warfare Officer
Weaponry: x2 LLW-20 CIWS Laser, x2 Wing Mounted Articulated Missile Hardpoints (x6 HARM-80 ECM Missiles)
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, Two Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero & Cockpit Assembly), APS-101 Rotary Radome w/ Theatre Surveillance Radar, HF/VHF/VLF Antennae equipped NR-SRE22-X (Right Arm), Communications Relay Co-Antennae NR-SLE1 (Left Arm), Side Surveillance Radar Systems (NR-FS-E0 Attachments on legs/engines), APS-XX200 ECM/ECCM Command Suite

Description:
The VEF-1 series Valkyrie is the standard EWAR/ELINT Variable Fighter for the UEDF. Using the VF-1D as a chassis, the VEF-1 was stripped of weapons and then fitted with the first generation EWAR and AWACS equipment. The use of the Two-Seat Cockpit allowed a pilot to handle flying the craft while a qualified EWO sat in the backseat and handled ELINT duties. The VEF-1 series was generally considered a success, filling the role normally held by a Cat's Eye or Tiger's Eye T/AWACS craft.

Unfortunately for the VEF-1, being loaded down with so much EWAR equipment left the vehicle underarmored and underarmed.

VEF-2X

Model Type: VEF-Series Model "-2X" Prototype Veritech
Class: Single Seat, All-Environment Electronic Warfare/Theatre Advanced Warning and Control (T/AWACS) Battloid
Crew: One
Weaponry: x2 LLW-20 CIWS Laser, x2 Wing Mounted Articulated Missile Hardpoints (x6 HARM-80 ECM Missiles)
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, Single Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero Type), APS-201 Rotary Radome w/ Theatre Surveillance Radar, HF/VHF/VLF Antennae equipped NR-SRE3-X (Right Arm), Communications Relay Co-Antennae NR-SLE3 (Left Arm), Side Surveillance Radar Systems (NR-FS-E3 Attachments on legs/engines), Hard Integrated Shinnikasu Heavy Industry FAST PAck Boosters, APS-XX203 ECM/ECCM Command Suite

Description: The VEF-2X Prototype is an experimental craft created as an alternative to the VEF-1. During the testing phase of the VEF-1, several of the vehicles were damaged or destroyed outright and their crews killed due to various flaws with the airframe. Despite this rocky start, production and testing continued. However, UEDF Command decided to approach Shinnikasu Heavy Industry to design a variant of the VEF-1 that would not risk as many lives in the event of the vehicle's destruction. Starting with the basic airframe of the VEF-1, SHI stripped it down to the "bare bones" and completely redesigned the fighter. Using a one-man cockpit was the first change, followed by the installation of an integrated FAST Pack. While expensive, this module made the new fighter almost three times as fast as any other fighter currently in development. Another change brought on by SHI is that the VEF-2X is completely stripped of all armor, except around the Cockpit, the radome, and the antennaes. This measure was necessary due to the fact that the Two Ex is structurally incapable of supporting so much mass. It was felt by SHI that since the Two Ex is not a combat craft, the danger to it was minimal and that the FAST Pack would enable it to run from any dangerous situation it would find itself in.

The VEF-1 was quickly adopted by UEDF Command, but the variant -2X was not. Because of the complicated controls, blending piloting and EWAR tasks, many pilots were unqualified to act as EWOs, while many EWOs simply were not talented enough pilots to handle the craft. In fact, only three VEF-2Xs have been constructed by SHI to date.

The original prototype remains at SHI's main plant in Okinawa where it will undergo several revisions. The second prototype is currently aboard the ARMD-07 Ranger, piloted by SCPO Lucas Bixby. The third was being studied at Armstrong AFB, but was transferred to the Ranger to undergo further field testing alongside its twin.

The -2X has been lauded, however, by many as the perennial ELINT craft. Its capabilities in T/AWACS and EWAR far surpass the VEF-1 and the Cat's/Tiger's Eye.

SDP-01 "Stampede" Valkyrie

Model Type: VF-Series Model SDP-01 Valkyrie
Class: Single Seat, All-Environment Heavy Assault/Urban Pacification Battloid
Crew: One
Weaponry: x1 Large-Bore Phased Particle Cannon (R. Arm), x1 Triple Barreled Gatling Cannon (L. Arm), x4 Wing Mounted Articulated Hardpoint (Variable Loadout), x2 Wing Mounted Articulated Bomb Racks (Variable Loadout), Leg Mounted Micro Missile Launchers (Low-Yield Tactical Reflex Warheads; 20 Count)
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, Two Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero & Cockpit Assembly), Command/Control/Communications (C3) System, GPS Urban Assault Software Package

Description: The VF-SDP-01 "Stampede" is the latest development from Shinnikasu Heavy Industry's Seoul Industriplex. Originally designed as an "Urban Pacification/Suppression Veritech", the SDP evolved into an all-around assault Battloid due to the Akagi's development of a prototype Large-Bore Phased Particle Cannon (LBPPC). The weapon was deemed too brutal to be utilized in an urban environment, so the Veritech was repurposed. Testing of the Veritech in Earth-normal gravity proved hazardous, as the Veritech is almost too heavy to function in any mode, so the prototypes were scheduled to be shuttled up to the ARMD-07 in order to undergo combat testing.

In an effort to give the Veritech another dimension beyond Heavy Assault, SHI left the GPS Urban Assault Software Package intact, intending for the VT to be able to operate in Close Quarter (CQ) combat by giving it an Omnidirectional 3D radar "grid" of the surrounding areas.

VB-6 Konig Monster

Model Type: VB-Series Model Konig Monster Veritech Bomber
Class: Single Seat, All-Environment Assault Bomber Battloid
Crew: One
Weaponry: x4 320mm Rail Guns, x2 Triple Barreled Anti-Air/Anti-Ground Heavy Missile Launchers (Arm Mounted), x1 30mm Anti-Infantry "Vulcan" Machine Gun (Torso Mounted in GERWALK/Battloid Mode),
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, Two Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero & Cockpit Assembly), GunCam Automated Targeting System Assistance ("Bitchin' Betty")

Description: During PROJECT EXCALIBUR, the codename for the Destroid Project, many of the upper echelon officers of the UEDF found the HWR-000 Monster Destroid to be lacking in several vital areas - notably maintenance costs (one round of maintenance cost as much as a half squadron of Veritechs) and the low survivability of the unit if engaged directly. Tapping Northrom Grumman, the UEDF instructed the design firm to rebuild the Destroid as a Veritech.

Baffled by the instructions, NG spent six months deconstructing the Veritech piece by piece, then creating a transformation package, which took another two years and well over $16 million USD. Unable to create a design capable of matching the standard model Valkyrie, which the UEDF wanted, NG built the vehicle as a three-mode Variable Geometry Bomber, which was a major deviation from their original plan. In order to make the VB as mobile as possible, the ammunition bins were reduced by 30% and that space was filled with additional engine components, which made it almost a third as fast as a standard VF-1A. It's armor profile was similarly improved, as lighter ceramics were placed across the craft. Expensive though the armor was, it was necessary, as the original HWR-000 was severely underarmored - denoting its status as a rear-line artillery component.

With the reduction in manpower (3:1) over the HWR-000, the Konig was installed with a GunCam Automated Targeting System Assistance. Nicknamed the "Bitchin' Betty" System, the GCATSA is a simple AI that auto-adjusts the Bomber's weaponry for altitude, speed, and wind direction in order to give the pilot the best chance of hitting its target. The AI has a voice-command system which annoys pilots to no end. NG forgot to install a Mute button.

To date, only six of these have been produced, awaiting testing aboard the ARMD-07.

VF-SGP-01 Armored Ostrich

Model Type: VF-Series Model SGP-01 "Armored Ostrich" Veritech
Class: Single Seat, All-Environment Variable Combat Fighter-Guardian
Crew: One
Weaponry: x2 LLW-20 CIWS Laser, x2 Large-Bore Phased Particle Cannon (Turret), x2 Mini-Gauss Railguns w/ Targeting Laser (Right Arm), x1 Triple-Barreled Gatling Cannon w/ Targeting Laser (Left Arm), x2 MDS-L-12 Multiple Launch Missile Pods (Shoulders), MDS-L-8 "Hailstorm" Mini-Missile Packs (Legs)
Special Systems of Note: Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System, "Magic Hands" Retractable Utility Arms, Two Stage Ejection System (Zero-Zero & Cockpit Assembly)

Description: The "Armored Ostrich" is as much a work of art as a weapon of war. The artwork of a mad man, certainly. All of the original SGP-01s started out as standard VF-series Veritechs that were damaged in covert operations before the official unveiling of the Veritechs to the mass public, circa 2007. Being operated behind enemy lines, replacement parts were hard to come by without scrapping units entirely, so the Engineering teams that accompanied them began making several 'off-the-cuff' repairs, substituting crippled hardware for whatever was available.

Parts of the Daimler Octos Aquatic VT and the Israeli SV-51 were incorporated to make the VF-1As functional. When the missions concluded, the remaining "Frankensteined" Veritechs were praised by Admiral Donald Hayes as being "bastardized beyond belief, but serious nut kicking sons of bitches". Intrigued more by the cost-saving measure than actual combat viability, UEDF Command tapped Shinsei Industries to build a standard model SGP using spare parts from the SPARTAN Destroid, the SDP-01 Stampede, proof-of-concept FAST Packs, and a VF-1S.

The end product, the SGP-01 Super Ostrich holds true to Admiral Hayes' statement, but is utterly incapable of transforming to Battloid mode, due to the oversized turret holding the twinned LBPPCs restricting the transformation gears. It is also incapable of operating in Fighter mode while in atmosphere, as it lacks the necessary wings to handle maneuvers, though the lack of control surfaces does not hinder it in space.

While it is extremely powerful, its limited functionality has reduced its effective operation zone to outer space.
