Re: Orphaned Character List

So, due to circumstances beyond my control--(I know, you've heard it before).

Since the game's owner has kind of dropped off the face of the earth and left me running the game until such time as he returns, without actually giving me full access to all the game features, I have to append the list above.  Most of the characters listed above were NPCs that were created, but never assigned to players, at a time when the original GM was envisioning filling out all the squadrons.  As such, since the characters are still his and he outranks me, I have no access to them to change owners, rename, delete, or anything else.

SO...here are the characters that I CAN reassign to someone, in the order in which I'd prefer to do it (based on duration of time since the character was apparently abandoned by the assigned player):

2nd Lt. Nina Petrovic
1st Lt. Kelly Hansel Jones
3rd Lt. Brandy Di Avantos
3rd Lt. Jon OakenBear
3rd Lt. Yuri Gagarin III
3rd Lt. Proctor Begay
3rd Lt. Sean O'Houlihan
3rd Lt. Ray Skrull
2nd Lt. Alexa Khan
2nd Lt. Parker Harvey

Now, that being said, the higher on the list you look, the less involved with the current storyline the characters become (and even some of the lower ones were pretty uninvolved.  Most of them only made a very few posts).  So, I'm willing to re-name most of them, or leave the name the same and save you that much trouble, and let you re-write backgrounds on them.  You'll be starting out as a new Academy recruit...you know how to fly, you've got several hours of actual time in the cockpit on your own, you've been through Basic Training, etc...but you're not coming in as an ace pilot with a deadly reputation.

For the time being, since I'm still growing back into running a game (this is the first one in well over a decade), I'm keeping all active characters in Echo Squadron.  This means you WILL need to be a Veritech pilot.  Sorry if you had your heart set on a Destroid or some other craft, but it's just easier for me to settle out the details for a single squadron and let the rest of the action be off in the background somewhere.

I should also mention, while I'm laying all this out--while I'm not above unusual character backgrounds, the more unusual you make it, the harder you're going to have to work to sell me on it.  It has to make sense.  Unless you've got some incredibly good explanation for it, I'm not going to let you have a top-flight Robotech scientist who's also flying combat duty (because most of the Robotech specialists were aboard the SDF-1 when it vanished, and those who remain would be busy trying to figure out how to work around the lack of those facilities and personnel, not being put out in harm's way on combat duty.  The situation is desperate, but not yet at the point where they're going to be taking highly skilled tech personnel away from MAKING weapons for front-line personnel to use).  I've also got a thing against the notion of disciplinary hard-cases being assigned to what is the proverbial point of the spear for Earth's defenses.  Being a little seat-of-the-pants is one thing.  Being the kind of guy that Security Forces pat down every time you come back from a combat mission?  Nope.  They'd keep you on Earth scrubbing latrines or something like that, where you weren't responsible for potentially millions of lives (again, the situation is not THAT desperate).

I know this sounds like I'm really ruthless and tyrannical about characters.  I'm not.  I just want them to make sense in the context of the story.  I'm pretty familiar with the Macross Saga, as videos...I don't know much about the Robotech role-playing game and I'm not treating this as part of a greater Robotech universe.  Regardless of what may have been tied to the Robotech 'verse AFTER Macross was produced, if it wasn't in the Macross Saga, I won't be using it.  So, take that as a guide when coming up with character concepts.  Quirky, oddball characters are fine...but they should fall within at least some parameters of 'normalcy' when it comes to being a combat pilot.
