Re: Rolls needed

Hamble Setzhammer:
to have them decide on the date of second trial that maybe the offer of a year ago actually was indeed the right resolution before the thousands of dollars and year of court time was wasted.

OH MY GOD YES!!!  One of the MOST frustrating things about this is that we could have settled this case (and by this, I mean two, as it is a coverage action combined with a suit against the thieves themselves) a year and a half ago if the client had been willing to enter discussions in the range we're now at.  In the interim, we've spent a boatload of money litigating, had our asses handed to us by a judge who has issued a series of rulings that, though reversible error can't be reversed until we get to the appellate court after even more boatloads of money, and NOW the client thinks, "Huh.  Maybe I should just get what I can get, and cut my losses."

I mean, REALLY?  For REALS?!?

Did I mention (I can't remember) -- the lawnmower baffle case has settled; we're just dickering about the language of the release now.

I could bore everybody even more with an account of the trial exhibit list I'm culling down and how we intend to get records into evidence under various exceptions to the hearsay rule.  I mean, this stuff actually does interest me, but it's dry as dust to other people, and I think the spouse is tired of listening to me grouse about it.

Yeah, it's nice to have a PC step out for a second for a quick reality check!

Also, if you want to talk more about lawnmower baffles, say they're 3D-printed, or crowd-funded or something. Or start with "mother of three finds this weird trick about lawnmower baffles! click to read more."

Yay for settlements

The good news is the case that was scheduled to go to trial on Monday, November 16th, has settled -- got the news last night as I pulled into my driveway.  So unless the judge schedules the other case (these were two lawsuits that were consolidated for trial, then de-consolidated at the last minute) to proceed immediately, I should be able to stop drowning.

Now, to plow my way through and update things, and answer long-languishing PMs.

Yay for settlements

Finished for tonight.  Will continue working my way up from the bottom, though first priority tomorrow (when I hope to have more time to focus) is for Aisha and Arlorian.

FYI, other case is NOT being scheduled for trial in imminent future; instead, we're being referred back for more settlement discussions.  So I have breathing room again.

There's 40+ posts left, and it would be a great way to wrap up the thread with you guys wiping the floor with the bad guys.  Anansi had to go and wreck my plans for evil spellcaster badness with her black tentacles...

FYI re Thanksgiving Week

Thanks to two cases settling out and a third being referred to mediation, I find myself with the ability to take all of next week off for a visit to the folks in Tennessee, and to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner as hosted by the sister who had the car accident last fall.  We're leaving this weekend (either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning) and will not be back home until Saturday November 28th.

I do intend to post on days that don't involve hours of driving (or riding shotgun while the spouse drives).  But November 21st to November 28th do NOT count against anyone for purposes of the "two weeks of no in-character posting gives your GM agita."

Priority tomorrow is Josep, et al.  Right now, all other threads are awaiting PC input.

Hamble, in response to your question in your thread -- it is unclear whether Samad and Sherat are taking the opportunity to run away, or planning to retrieve the surviving horses and return.

Finished for tonight

This year, like every year, Thanksgiving is just around my birthday.
Now we don't celebrate Thanksgiving over here, but I just like roasting turkey so much, I've taken the habit to have a Thanksgiving dinner for my birthday.
This year will be small rooster, stuffed in a duck, stuffed in a goose, stuffed in a turkey. Celery and mushroom stuffing between each bird and the next.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
