OOC VI:  A Thread To Be Named Later

Brand spanking new OOC thread.  Naming contest is still open, as I am awaiting one more response to the latest survey <cough>Euron/Amhairghin</cough>.

Oh, I forgot to mention this bit of possible hilarity I'm looking forward to at the funeral.  (Tonight and tomorrow night are visitation and services.)  My mother has gout and arthritis in her left ankle that has her hobbling around as well.  My sister, who had the car accident last year and lost part of her cerebellum, also has balance issues and walks slowly as a result, and does not do well on uneven surfaces.  My father has had spinal surgery and has Parkinson's.

And my grandfather is being buried at a small family cemetery behind his house.

On the side of a hill.

Up a muddy slope.

I keep envisioning all of us going down like dominoes.

Though my sister will likely not even attempt the climb.

Knee is better and scrapes are healing.  Ankle does everything it can to presage future osteoarthritis.

My sympathies on your loss.  It is always hard to lose a loved one, even when they've lived a long full life.  Will keep you and your family in my prayers...

Re: OOC VI:  A Thread To Be Named Later

I'm back from Kentucky, where there was much sermonizing, two family funerals, homemade buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy (nom nom nom), some crying, lots of food, lots of seeing people I haven't seen since I was back for my grandmother's funeral almost exactly 8 years ago, some great stories (a few of which I managed to actually record), collection of many many old family photographs, and 22 hours round-trip of driving through some beautiful fall foliage from Pennsylvania through Maryland and West Virginia and into Kentucky and back again.

Am going to try to hit the longest-languishing threads now (Jonathan and Valan), and aim to move through the others tomorrow.

Re: OOC VI:  A Thread To Be Named Later

Ha!  No, my father (who is quite frail) did not even come back to the house for the buryin' and feasting; my brother and sister (the one with only half a cerebellum) drove up from Tennessee that morning, and then immediately back.  Despite my uncle's efforts to grade the slope to the gravesite and cover it with gravel, I decided not to chance it -- especially once my mother decided she'd rather sit in the living room talking to her aunt (one of my grandfather's two surviving siblings) and uncle.  Uncle Burlin was the storyteller, and man, he was  HOOT!

 Good to have you back!

For any of you who ever felt unlucky after a few bad rolls, behold what happened this morning to a gladiator in the arena next door:
08:52, Today: Ugrim rolled 1,1,1 using 1d00,1d00,1d00 with rolls of 1,1,1.  3 20% miss chances bite, Ten, Ten.

Not bad, uh? You can see it here:  link to another game

Re: OOC VI:  A Thread To Be Named Later

That sounds like my last blood bowl match.
Never seen so many tosses of the skulls of death.  3 skulls.  Reroll.  3 skulls.  Next try, 3 skulls.  Reroll.  3 skulls.
Third time.  Saving the middle, chair goes through the mental window.
My opponents have already commented about it being the biggest handicap on me trying to play (win? laugh, win?) games.

3 d100s though.  Ouch.

Charan, your incredible streak of bad luck is actually 10 times less likely than the triple 1 on d100 ! I guess you deserve the trophy...

Someone pointed out that the reason for the unlucky streak was a typo in the dice roller... FYI, d00 always comes as 1.

Laugh.  Yes indeed.  Much funnier story now too.

DM warned about lethal fights, and no one rolled well enough to prep for the earth-shattering ka-boom! :)
