Well, none of the other three PCs are themselves from the highlands.  And I vote brogue.

I always vote brogue.

Aye, well then, lad, I reckon I'll be doin' mah bonnie best to brogue it up, then.  Assuming, of course, tha' it does nah annoy anyone.

And both of them, at the same time, could see how Janne jerked at the appearance of her dead bodyguard/lover/fellow bard.

That line got me thinking that they both had recognized her (using Sherlock-style deduction-fu)

As for the decoy -- considering that is what they came for, I assume Josep would get the hint.
If not : Josep Gavinho rolled 13 using 1d20+3 with rolls of 10. perception decoy

It will annoy Donato, but that's half the fun, isn't it?

As GM said, you would be the only one actually from the highland-like region, so your three companions will have fun trying to make out what you're saying.

I think the "both" there is Tandro and Charan.  It was Charan seeing the serving woman change into Janne, and Tandro seeing Xavar show up, and both noticed Janne see her fellow bard.

But now I'm really curious. :P

I'm sure it has nothing to do with complexities, significant back and forth exchanges, considerations of minutiae...

Probably just that we're both straaaaange people ? :p

In reply to Luke Harrington (msg # 62):

With the right feats, a human is considered to have every skill as a class skill and be trained in each of them. On top of that, the feats grant a bonus to skills that have 0 skill points in them.

So, given the lack of a Use Rope skill I went for a Profession that'd focus a lot on using rope.

I'm also proficient with Whips, which makes it extra funny.

Re: Josep

Maybe folks have talked about this already (not super active on the OOC) but have folks taken a look at the D&D basic rules or gotten the new Starter kit yet?

Just picked up the starter set, looks promising, but not really that far into it.

Randomness

First player who is NOT Kubrik, Luke or Bell to see this, roll 2d100 and record both dies.  Post the result.  This is for Bell.  Post the result here.  I will explain in a private line visible to everyone who is not in that thread.

You should be getting the chance to see soon -- Niall just left to fetch Murtagh; once the conversation is done, we'll move to morning and our friendly brogue-ish barbarian will arrive to make his introductions.

I picked it up, and I can say that I really really like the rules so far. The starter set contains everything you need to run a low level campaign with some basic magic items, DM rules, and monster stat blocks from CR1 to CR4, with a dragon (CR8) and another monster as well.

I'm already a big fan of the system. PHB is three weeks away. (It gets released to Wizard's Play Network stores on August 8th.)

DnD basic

Does this have anything to do with DnD next?
I took part in the playtest on that one, but I'm not sure where they're at right now.

DnD Next = DnD 5th Edition = DnD Basic. The playtest evolved into the rules that you see now.

DnD Basic is a free version of DnD 5th Edition with a limited subset of the rules. Right now, it has character creation options and basic gameplay info. Once the PHB is released, it will be updated with monster stats and DM rules.

Re: Posting Schedule - Week of July 6, 2014

I downloaded the pdf when Luke linked to it the other week.  I started it, and it looks kind of interesting (I just read about most of the classes and not much further yet).  My problem now is that I have a ton of Pathfinder stuff (and I still have all my 3.5 stuff) and I'm not sure how differently the new D&D will play from those.  I'll probably get the main three books again (got 'em for 4th, too but decided the changes weren't for me.) and keep an eye on reviews and other articles to see how it plays.

Re: Posting Schedule - Week of July 6, 2014

Something I really liked from the playtest was the not-so-exponential power progression, and some features that seemed directly resurrected from 1st edition. Also, the simplification of the skills system, and the at-will powers implemented from 4th/PF.

I'll have to take a look at this... although to be perfectly honest, I'm quite comfortable with 3.5/PF right now.

Re: Posting Schedule - Week of July 6, 2014

I liked the slower progression of attacks and saves and such in the DnD Next Playtest as well.  They max out at +6 at 20th-level.  Definitely a significant advantage over the +1 of 1st-level characters, but not so much so that 20th-level characters are totally invulnerable to lower-level ones.
