Re: Posting Schedule - Week of July 6, 2014
After the 4th edition Wizards lost a lot of clout. Now there are much more aggressive fish in the pond. Fantasy Flight and Paizo are just to examples. While they are still the big kid on the block, from what I have seen, its the same thing, just different enough to seperate it from 4th edition.
While the new rules and "stuff" might seem nice, I have Pathfinder for that. And seriously, it ain't anywhere near "fun" enough for me to give up on hoarding 40k RPG's from Fantasy Flight. If I want to play D&D I have AD&D, 3rd and 3.5 editions, plus the Pathfinder. Which pretty much covers what the new edition of D&D brings to the table.
The problem with Wizards is that its the same, pardon my french, shit, all over again. Right after the books are released we'll probably get a Forgotten Realms book release which will be like "Oh look, things happened, now it's not the same anymore" but it will be. And if that brings in some attention they will maybe touch up other settings, come up with a new one like Eberron, or just go bat-shit insane and try to rewrite Planscape.
Wizards have became like the tabletop RPG equivalent of video game AAA industry. Edition after edition they "polish" up and release a new version only for it to end up being the same game, just more "brown-ish".
Been there, done that, don't want any. I'll be over here blasting heretics for the Emperah! for the foreseeable future.
