Battletech: The Dark Age (A Time of War)
The year is 3134, and as the Inner Sphere continues its descent into the Dark Age, the 12th Star Guards have begun to build up their forces in wake of the Republic's inability to defend its prefectures. The units within the newly expanded 1st Regiment have returned from defending worlds of the Republic for a much needed rest, refit, and building cycle - only to find it interrupted by the recent incursions of Clan Jade Falcon. The horizon for the center of the Inner Sphere is grim. More and more, the Republic's future is in question, and someone is going to have to take action. That someone is the 12th Star Guards.

We are currently seeking a single character to join the main unit of the game. The opening is for a nineteen or twenty year-old Mechwarrior PFC, recently promoted from a second-line unit to join the front-line 1st Regiment of the 12th Star Guards in a company of Heavy cavalry 'Mechs. This is a single spot in the main unit of the game.
Additionally, for the first time in the history of the game, we're opening up spots on what is the 1st Regiment's alternate list: second-line Mechwarriors 'on the bench' in case an emergency situation requires them to be called up as a replacement within the main front-line unit. While as in-universe alternates there will be some specific scenes these characters will be unable to participate in, the vast majority of scene locations will be open to them, and they will be along for the primary campaign. These slots are not as limited in number, nor as tightly restricted with regards to character age or rank (although they will all still be currently assigned to a second-line unit), and are perfect options for players with less time for regular posting, those interested in getting their toes wet within the Battletech universe for the first time, or simply those waiting to cycle in to a spot in the game.
Player attrition is unfortunately very real on RPoL, especially in a game running as long as this one has been. Creating an in-universe alternate list is our solution to how the main unit consistently remains at full fighting strength without having to advertise once a year for new players, or find an IC explanation for how their characters managed to find themselves magically on the same planet at the main unit - now they'll be there all along! While this is a new idea that we're testing out, hopes are high that it will work to allow a greater pool of players access to the game more readily, with us no longer constrained by the size of the main unit itself.
With that in mind, we encourage anyone who may have previously RTJ'd to this game and not gotten in to apply again - we have more spots, now! Slots are not first-come, first-served, but will be awarded based on quality of RTJ and resulting conversations with the GM. I like to converse with all applicants in order to find the best fits for the game.

Standard disclaimer: This game runs on interaction between the characters. We want active players that care about not only their plotline, but those of other characters as well. If you wish to show up once every two weeks and only interact with the GM, this is not the game for you. If you are not willing to read and pay attention to other players' posts (which will often contain valuable information fed to them by the GM for dissemination), this is not the game for you. Characters are not expected to all get along, but civility towards other players is required.
This game uses Catalyst Labs 'A Time of War' series of Battletech rules, but the focus of the game will be less on the combat itself, and more on the characters interacting with each other and the impacts they will have on the history of the Inner Sphere. Please make sure to read the Setting information before sending an RTJ, as this is an alternate universe, and thus the timeline has shifted slightly from Battletech canon.
The focus of this game is on character roleplay and interactions, with GM-controlled gameboard combat on the battlefield (based entirely on your PC and 'Mech stats) that is affected by the players' actions and decisions. There are many plotlines and sub-stories woven throughout the cast, and PC actions will affect not just the present of 3134, but generations to come. Literally, as the game is planned to run for decades farther along the timeline.
For any questions not covered in the game information, please use a private message there, and not posts here.
Thank you and I hope to see you in game!
