Star Trek, Deep Space 4: Paranoia on the Fringe
I've been putting together some ideas for running a Star Trek series here, basing the game on a large space station on the edge of Federation Space. Colonists, treasure-seekers, scholars, rogues, ne'er-do-wells, spies, all gathering in a central location and dealing with unknown threats emerging from a spatial anomaly.
If that sounds an awful lot like Deep Space Nine, that's partly because I'm using the DS9 game by Last Unicorn as the basis. Instead of that station, though, I'm using Deep Space 4. It's parked right on the edge of the Neutral Zone, neighbors a sector notorious for space/time anomalies, and is the entry-point for Borg incursions into the Alpha Quadrant.
Romulan troublemakers on one side. Borg on another. And Strange Things From Outer Space on a third. If that's not enough to make you paranoid, how about the aftermath of the Dominion War? Disenfranchised Vorta, expatriated Jem'Hadar, Maquis rebels looking for a new home, Cardassian agents of a splintered order, Bajoran cultists of the pah-wraiths.
I plan on recruiting a handful of players, walking them through character-creation, then putting things on hold for a bit while I work out some early episodes. I have a larger plot in mind, but I don't plan on revealing it for a while.
