Feeling Nostalgic? Come Play the Original D&D Rules

Ever wonder what they mean when those old grizzled veteran gamers mean when they say "I played back when elves were a class"? Want to play D&D the way we originally played, when high stats mattered less and survival was never guaranteed?

Set aside your super-optimized character builds. Wince as your character gets a below-average Constitution score... and figure out how to survive despite it. Revel in coming up with elaborate plans that hinge on a single roll — because there were never rules to cover what you're trying, and the DM is literally making it up.

While you're at it, poke your ten-foot poles into many of the old classic modules. Keep on the Borderlands. The Palace of the Silver Princess. Castle Caldwell. The Lost City of Cynidicea. And maybe, if you survive all that, the Isle of Dread.

Come back to your roots. Or delve into gaming history to see it for yourself.

[Ad-speak aside, this game will be using the original Rules Cyclopedia published in 1991. Familiarity with it or the Basic/Expert rules are neither required nor assumed. The game will initially be set in Karameikos, a country in Mystara, but can branch anywhere within that world afterward.]

EDIT: Wow, this filled up fast! I'll still accept lurkers, if you want to be on the list should I need an extra.

Hi I'm new to the site; wouldn't mind being a lurker to see how the game is played :)

Just a short bump. The game's LFG flag is still off, but we've had an opening come up due to an absent player. If you're wanting to try playing an old-school magic-user (back when they insisted on calling them that), let me know. I have a character already made and ready for you to take over -- though you'd be free to change the name and description, of course.

It's only the one opening, and the party has just started an adventure, so this is a prime chance to just jump right in.

Bump time! Unfortunately, the player who took over the magic-user (see above) had to drop out, so that spot's left vacant again. As before, I'll allow some cosmetic changes, but I think you'll find the existing character pretty interesting.

If you're willing to jump into an old-school game as a wizard, let me know. And, of course, if you're simply interested in lurking, I'll be happy to add you to the pile.

As happens here sometimes, I've had a player drop out without notice. I need someone to take over his character -- he is playing a thief, and just recently gained a level.

As always, I'm accepting lurkers, but I need this spot filled first.

EDIT: The thief's taken. Can't have too many lurkers though!

Hey there! I would like to apply for the 'lurker position' until something comes up. I have zero experience with D&D though.
