The Matrix: Pre-Loaded
You believe it's the year 1999, when in fact it's closer to 2199.
You are a member of the Resistance against the machines that have enslaved humanity. You were born inside The Matrix, a neuro-interactive simulation of the world as it was at the end of the 20th Century. Your body was grown in a pod, a prison in which you would have lived, grown old and died without ever realizing your slavery, had it not been for the intervention of the Resistance.
Now, unplugged from the machine, you are engaged in guerrilla warfare against your captors, striking out from secret drop points inside the Matrix, committing acts of terrorism and insurrection against the system that has enslaved humanity.
You have lost many friends and compatriots to the war, and at times, the struggle seems hopeless. But a ray of hope shines through the nearly unbroken ceiling of dark clouds. The Oracle has prophesied the return of The One, a man born inside The Matrix with the ability to re-make it as he saw fit. It is believed that the return of The One will herald the destruction of The Matrix, an end to the war, and freedom for all of humanity.
It is to this Oracle that you have been summoned today. Your ship, the Hypnos, plunges through the old sewer system in the ruins below the Mega City where you will broadcast your pirate signal, and enter The Matrix...
The Matrix: Pre-Loaded takes place before the events of the Matrix movies and video games. It uses a simple, home-brewed character creation system based on choices, and an easy-to-use combat system.
