Forming a new coterie.

Hello everyone.

Started in June of 2015, Detroit: Broken Traditions has evolved into massive open sandbox style game with over 15k posts.  For the first time since the game initially closed its doors, I am actively recruiting a new coterie of between 3-6 Vampires to join my existing players in facing the dark.

Potential applicants will create their coterie within the OOC threads, learning about this history of the various Covenants and working their backstories into something that makes narrative sense both with the story thus far and with each other.  Once characters are fleshed out and created they will be integrated into the main game.  That means there is going to be a lot of reading and collaboration required from applicants in the opening stages.  A lot has happened in Detroit so far, and you're going to need to get caught up.

This is typically a very active game, so applicants should be ready to post on a fairly frequent schedule.  For the first six months or so we were a multiple times a day sort of game, but I've slowed down a little due to personal matters so you don't have to post quite so frantically.  Still, if you are interested in an active game and think you can keep up, we'd love to have you.

Detroit, once known as the Paris of the Midwest, had become a hallow shell of its former glory.  While the elite maintain their lives of privilege within the skyscrapers of downtown, the death of US manufacturing turned much of the city proper into a ghost town.  Whole subdivisions have been abandoned, given over to vagrants and criminal gangs, or just emptied completely, while the lower classes struggle to get by in those few neighborhoods that remain.  The call for change is on every lip, except for those few who maintain their viselike grip on the rapidly decaying structures of power. Protests and riots are frequent sights on the streets, as vital city resources like police and fire are increasingly diverted to smaller and smaller subsections of the once mighty giant of a city.

What happens above, so below, and the political tension of the Auto City played out in their own way in the Dance Macabre.  With the entrenched systems of control failing, the Carthian Movement rose to prominence, overthrowing the Invictus in 2006 and establishing themselves as the dominant political force in the city with their own de facto Prince.  Led by the raw animal magnetism of their leader, Marissa Young, the Movement has managed to maintain their choke hold on the Masquerade despite the First Estate's frequent, and often violent, protests.

But times are still tough, and what fragile peace had been created was shattered when a State Senator was exsanguinated by an unregistered Kindred in a very public fashion.   Rushing to repair the breach in the Masquerade, the Kindred of Detroit discovered that their city had been infested with an entire Conspiracy of Hunters, a group known as the Ascending Ones.  Worse still, rumors abound that the plague of Hunters is only the first wave, and that an even darker threat lurks on the horizon.

But all is not as it seems.  The murder of the State Senator was revealed to be an intentional breach on behalf of the former Prince of the city, the Invictus Primus Dominic Acosta, with the goal of drawing the Ascending Ones to act within Detroit so that their warriors could be captured, Embraced, and indoctrinated into serving as his own private militia.  The Carthian Movement have responded to this new threat by declaring war upon the First Estate, calling on the other Covenants to join them in eradicating the Primus and his loyalists.

Now with a bloody civil war erupting between the Invictus, and rumors abounding that the Elders of the Ordo Dracul are perpetrators of the most horrible of crimes against the Masquerade, the night is no longer safe for Kindred or Kine.  What will you do to survive?

Forming a new coterie.

In reply to TheRaconteur (msg # 1):

I'm interested.  I'm new to play by post and Roleplay online but I'm a WoD and VtM veteran player since it first came out 20 years ago.

I like the fact that you have an established group and storyline and are looking for new blood to integrate into it.  Looking forward to reading the posts and coming up with something fun and appropriate to add to the mix.  Are there any restrictions to Clan/Generation/Merits + Flaws/Backgrounds?

Forming a new coterie.

It's Onyx Path's Blood and Smoke version of Vampire the Requiem, so no Generation.

From the House Rules thread:

As most bloodlines haven't been converted to the updated rules, any bloodline with a unique Discipline will be unavailable for this game.  This excludes the three bloodlines listed in the Onyx path forums, as Neglatu, Khaibit, and Kerberos will be playable bloodlines.

In addition, any bloodline that just utilizes core Disciplines will be playable.

When further published material is released regarding unique Bloodline Disciplines, this rule may be adjusted.
