"Class is in Session" will be played with the standard array of characters: a Time Lord/Lady and their companions traveling through time and space.  The Doctor will not be playable, though he may be an NPC who pops in from time to time to help the group in their adventures.  As it is, our Time Lord/Lady will have met the Doctor before and will know him vaguely.

The first adventure will take place on Earth in 2017, introducing our Time Lord/Lady, known as the Professor.  The Professor will be a young (at least in age) Time Lord/Lady in their first body still, having never experienced a Regeneration.  They managed to escape destruction during the Last Great Time War and were also able to escape being Time Locked with the rest of the Time Lords on Gallifrey at the end of the Time War, with the help of the Doctor.  To them, the Time War is a recent memory, the end of the War having only occurred in the last 5 years of their life.  They have spent this time on Earth, posing as a Professor at a University in America.  Recently, however, they have begun to get the itch to travel and to see new things.

Their companions will be typical 21st century humans, at first.  These could be students or former students of the Professor, colleagues of the Professor, or any other such person that the Professor has met during their brief time on Earth.
